Chucky’s Monday Night Football Script

From hearing and reading various NFL fans’ opinions, Joe believes he is in the minority.
Joe is not a fan of Chucky’s schlock on Monday Night Football.
Oh, trust Joe, Chucky is smooth and speaks in good sound bytes and is enthusiastic. But when you listen to what Chucky says, well, for Joe, it’s a big turn off.
Everybody is great. Everybody makes great plays. Everybody loves the game.
It’s so syrupy sweet, Joe has to find a watering hole on Monday nights — well, that’s not true. Joe already has found them — so that he can’t hear the audio.
If Joe wants to hear a cheerleader, he would pay for Rachel Watson to broadcast for him, among other services.
It was bad enough when Joe heard Chucky refer to Bill Callahan as a players’ coach. The last straw for Joe was when Chucky sang the praises of Eric Mangini.
But Joe has learned, via Mr. Irrevelant, that Chucky actually uses a script for Monday Night Football games.

Don’t worry Joe there’s a little button and I think it’s called/labeled “mute”. You use it for those annoying little commercial pests. I use when Obama’s on, but not on Monday Nights, now anyways!

Agree Joe. Gruden calls it “being positive”, but I call BS on that one. He was the same way on the NFL Network during the Combine coverage. Every guy they talked about was a “football player” and Chucky wanted 10 of every guy there. Charles Davis is a similar personality, very hesitant to point out areas guys need to work on, and even more hesitant to have a firm opinion on virtually every player he discusses. Davis gets called out on it a lot more by his fellow commentators than Gruden does though.

I don’t think that MNF wants Chuckie to be bashing the players. Jaws has been doing that for years during his shows in which he breaks down plays and comes across as a ‘know it all’. I personally like Gruden as a coach and in the booth.

Joe uses several buttons for such an occurance which often results in a different channel, occassionally a DVR recording of the NFL Network documentary, “Making the Squad: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders.”
Naturally, this hard-hitting piece of journalism has numerous segments featuring Rachel Watson.

Joe never got the impression that Jaws ever “bashed” anyone and honestly, Joe wonders where this theory came from where one points out honest, obvious errors and mistakes somehow equates “bashing.”

I agree Jaws points out players mistakes, but he comes across to me as a ‘know it all’. You’d think he was the greatest player/coach to walk the earth. In Gruden’s defense, almost every play either the offense wins the play or the defense wins the play and instead ot pointing out what the loser of the play did wrong, Chuckie points out what was done correctly.

Wow, look at all this press over a MNF commentary. It’s all so negative! I mean where’s the love Tampa!
When I was in Tampa I couldn’t GET a break. You say the truth about players and fans rip you a new one for dumping on the players. Then if you sugarcoat a players crappy play other fans rip you another one for not being critical.
With the load of crap I had to coach in Tampa it was a miracle that I got that team to 9-7 on nothing more than a wing and a prayer. Hell I had to give Derrick Brooks IV Geritol to get him on the field in the 4th quarter and we all saw how THAT turned out.
Now that I’m gone you can’t blame me for the Bucs losses. In fact look at what happens from 9-7 (8-3 at this time last year) to 1-10. Since I’m no longer the coach you get this guy Joe to put up pics of me and criticize my MNF gig?

I think Gruden’s enthusiastic love of all of the random players is fine and dandy now that he’s not trying to woo every one of them to play for the Bucs.
Also probably good to note that it wouldn’t be too smart of him to insult the players and coaches for teams that might hire him in the future…
Either way, I think he’s fun to watch.

ScottB, I’m not referring to ripping players. Personally, I don’t care for that either. But to not have an honest opinion on both a player’s pros and cons when you’re asked about said player is really lacking in the substance department. You don’t have to bash a guy to point out things he does/might struggle with at the next level. It’s called insight and analysis.

Yea Joe, I love your site bro, but I think Chucky has forgot more about football than you’ll ever know. I miss Chucky, wish he was still our coach, and he is very respectful in his commentary. If you don’t have something nice to say, say nothing at all, may be his mantra. It sure beats the Dark days of Dennis Miller, cha cha. Dennis found his place on Fox News.

Few things:
1) It’s Joe’s signature of sorts for this site. Just like one Bucs site refuses to give any credit to any other outlet or pawns releases from the Bucs media relations office as “breaking news,” or when a newspaper gets roasted on a big story and ignores it for hours, not every site is perfect and each has its foibles. Joe strives to be better but, as Abe Lincoln once famously said, “You can’t please all the people all the time.” As long as Joe is happy and the Caybrew is cold, Joe is content.
2) Joe will never, ever refer to himself as “me,” or “I.” That’s horribly arrogant if not selfish.
3) Joe doesn’t have to fill “space.” Joe’s site isn’t a newspaper where one has to produce x-amount of copy to fill up a page.
