Money Feet, Money Throw

October 26th, 2018

Football fans, especially fans of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, are going to love this.

Despite giving the football away like it’s Halloween candy, Jameis remains an elite talent on display.

Noted sports radio producer Steven Cheah is a serious Bucs fan and an excellent film guru. His work is showcased via his Twitter account and Cheah cut up a look at Jameis’ throw to DeSean Jackson that set up Chandler Catanzaro’s game-winning, 59-yard field goal Sunday.

Watch Jameis’ footwork in the pocket and the laser he fires to Jackson with two defenders around.

It’s a thing of beauty.

Perhaps a complete game from Jameis is on the horizon, preferably in one of these next two road games.

And that my friends is something Fitz can’t do.

  2. Dreambig Says:

Jameis is such a mixed bag. The Bucs did everything they could to let Cleveland back in that game. Jameis and his three turn overs are a big part of that. Take away the offensive errors and the Bucs win that game easily. I am losing confidence in Jameis to turn the corner.

  3. SchwiftyBuc Says:

The biggest divide between fans of Jameis, and the haters, is that the fans of Jameis see the complete package and understand that theirs plenty good to go along with the bad.

The haters see only his faults.

Perfect example. Against the Falcons, Jameis throws for 395 yards 4 TD’s and picks up 31 yards with his feet. But we lost the game and he threw 2 picks on both of which his receiver was being interfered with. Haters say, “Stats don’t matter, the bum didn’t get the win.”

Fastfoward to the browns game, and ugly game for both teams. Tons of penalties and horrible kicking. Bucs defense after a strong opening wilted after Kwon went down and then surged again late. And their were a ton of ugly drops, and several very bad turnovers. Coming from a fan of his, Jameis admittedly had an ugly game but in the end, still ultimately did enough to win. Also worth mentioning that his ugliest plays were in the OT period which never should have happened.

Now according to the logic established by the haters after the Falcons game, you would think they’d say “We got the win good job Jameis.” Nope instead it’s “Look at those stats omg he sucks cut him!”

It boggles the mind the mental gymnastics some go through around here.

  4. Dre Says:

Lol joe said elite talent …. and joe complete game on the horizon? How long have we been waiting? Honestly think if he hasn’t done it now then it’s on the horizon?

  5. Bird Says:

    Gargle gargle gargle

  6. Noles Says:

Well said SchwiftyBuc although I am a NOLE, I would have no problem getting rid of Jameis if he was bad.. I am a BUCS fan too… Most articles I read have him in top 16 QB’s in league and he has played only 3 full seasons so far with no OL or running game. We ask Jameis to throw 62 times and need his heroics like that throw which as the previous poster said Fitz can’t do, no knock on him but he would have been sacked on that play. Let’s get behind JW bc he is not going anywhere next year hopefully we get a RG & RT to help give him some time. Also not mentioned was incorrect route run by ROJO which lead to OT pick which is exactly why he hasn’t seen the filed much. It takes 11 on offense Jameis is only 1 of those 11 & certainly one of the best along w Evans..

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

With Jameis you are forced to choose between inconsistency and excellence. That is a very unfortunate dilemma.

  8. DalvinCookRules Says:

Jameis must learn to see LBs dropping deep into passing lanes. His inability to see the underneath stuff has really held him back. I wish he could also learn to stop throwing from his shoulder, it is just too much wind-up. He has natural quick twitch fiber, he needs to learn to throw some sidearm passes. The lack of consistent accuracy is always going to be a problem, for him also.

All of that said, the guy can make some throws only a handful of NFL QBs can make. He’s got great leadership, he’s savvy, and he is the ultimate competitor. He is also effective picking up yards with his legs. He can’t do it all, but he’s got enough to work with to be one of the Top 10 QBs in the League–Top 5 if he can cut out those turnovers!

  9. Topcoach1978 Says:

But the elite QBs doesn’t turnover the ball at such an alarming rate, and nobody said he wasn’t talented or didn’t have the tools to be elite but waiting around for it is another he constantly makes situations harder for himself and the team yes he does some magical things sometimes but mostly its because he put himself there by making mistakes he made year one! Its getting old Joe yes he may have the stats and numbers and yes if you compare it to some of the qb greats at there point in his career they are similar but their situation was totally different than this one he is running out of time he has to clean it up! And @Tampaspicer go see the over throw on the td he has to DJax Fitzpatrick let’s see JW make that throw!?!

  10. John B Says:

The 3 picks this season that are on him completely almost all the same – how many over the middle into double or triple coverage picks are ok? Should he not be past this already…

It is his consistent inconsistency that drives me mad each game

  11. RustyRhinos Says:

We keep hearing Jameis is this and that, good and bad. When will we as fans hold him accountable for his faults? This is not his first season in the NFL, this is not his second season or even his third season, it is his fourth season. Who among JBFers want to sign the $100,000,000.00 plus contract? To a QB who in his fourth NFL season who has still not developed or shown the needed NFL ball placement, ball accuracy, or ball security to be better than just a average NFL QB. I want Jameis to succeed but I for one do not see as much improvement in year four as a “Franchise QB” should be able fo display. Like hitting one of the best WR In the NFL when he is 3 yards from his nearest defender. This should be a easy play. Yet time and time again that connection is never made. Where in year four is the touch passes, the hitting the receiver in the hands on the money, pass after pass? Yes, sadly Jameis is the best QB we have had, But I am not wanting to sign his next contract for $100,000,000.00 plus. I just do not see enough improvement to warrant this costly contract.
    Go Bucs! Beat the bangles!

  12. BucEmUp Says:

Who would you clowns rather have? Mariotra, Bottles, one of the other crap qbs?

Everyone complains about his interceptions. Ok, let’s go back to a qb who has no balls and just checks the ball down all the time.Make up your damn minds. Do you want a risk taker or a Bussy?

Some people always think there is a way for everything to be perfect and exactly how they want with nothing bad ever happening. Jameis is a gun s linger and once this defense starts staying in games with good teams they are playoff bound.

STOP saying Jamie’s is the problem fools

  13. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey SchwiftyBuc, just so you do not have to go thru those pesky mental gymnastics. We lost the Falcons game, we came close to coming back for the win but just missed it.

  14. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey BucEmUp, Jeff George was also a gunslinger QB how well did that work out for the teams he played for? Being a “Gunslinger” QB does not always equal post season participation.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

I love how there’s never any middle ground when it comes to this subject with fans. You’re either a “hater” or “fan” of Jameis!
    He makes some amazing plays.

  16. RustyRhinos Says:

Why where we at the end of OT at 3rd and 29 again???? Hmmm was there not a sack right before this “amazing” pass? Could we have not used a throwaway pass instead of a sack? Yeah I hear ya. He is the only QB on our roster who can side step to his left and put the ball where his guy only can catch it. Great pass but to say that any of our other QB’s could not make the same play is a Big stretch.

  17. Ted Kamensky Says:

Mr. Mental Gymnastics with the back to back to back to back posts… Did he stick the landing?

  18. Resurrection of Duff Says:

    Yeah Baby!!!
Add that to the Winston-Jackson Highlight Reel!!!!
Jameis “I Got To Get Better” Winston

And no I don’t hate this guy…..I love this guy!

FitzMagic left frustration to a lot of Bucs fans. Fitz showed us what a deep ball to Jackson can do for this offense. Your are not being honest with yourself, if you don’t think the offense is underachieving in the passing game. And yes we still have the number one offense. True. But it no longer has the ICING ON THE CAKE…..THE DEEP BALL TO JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!

Then you add his rare bone headed decisions and frustration comes back to have a beer with you.

    Go Bucs!!!!

  19. Not there yet Says:

These fake bucs fans are clowns because they apparently see Fitz as the complete package

Winston still hasn’t thrown 3 int’s in a half but Fitz did on prime time tv. Fitz fans don’t realize the football world is laughing at them. No one in the media is saying they made a mistake by going back to Winston hmm I wonder why

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

Resurrection- Best description of our offense yet when you say “underachieving”!

  21. Tc Says:

Are you kidding me. Jameis is the best Qb in team history. It took almost 50 years to find one. Do you think they grow on trees. Look at the history of the jets. They only had 1 Great Qb in their whole history. Imagine if Jameis was on the Bucs super bowl team – they probably would have won multiple Super Bowls with that combination of Jameis and a stout defense.

  22. TBTemojin Says:

How can anyone say the number one passing offense in the league is “underachieving”?!?!?!?! Only in Tampa could we have the best passing attack in the league and the Fans be calling to cut the QB… SMH… Yes he turns the ball over too much but Jameis is not the problem with this team. Please stop bitching and just enjoy the first time in history that the Bucs have a legit Offense…

  23. THETRUTH Says:

DSMITH getting torched again , he is good for 1-2 holding calls every gameand we want to pay him top money.

  24. Ludicrous Speed Says:

    AN fantastic talent?

    THE Catanzaro’s 59 yarder?

English his 2nd language, or merely in need of 3rd grade remedial English?

Anyway, one thing, my friends, that Winston has been unable to do is to avoid producing one turnover of some kind for every single quarter of football he’s played so far.

That’s TEN turnovers in only 2 1/2 games played, or a rate of 4 turnovers per game.

I’m not saying, necessarily, that it will continue at that rate over an entire season (hopefully), but it does project to a WHOPPING 50 TURNOVERS in only 13 games.

  25. Ludicrous Speed Says:

    Correction: That’s 50 turnovers in only 12 1/2 games.

  26. ATrain Says:

    Hey SchwiftyBuc

    Hahah. You are hilarious

That exactly what Jamies lovers say. When we lose oh Jamies throw for 350 yrds ignore the turn overs

When we win oh Stats are bull we won that’s all that matters

He makes ONE THROW and that is the story

Y’all wanted Fitz bench for a bad game and turnovers but Jamie’s is ok

Oh and by the way I can show you long throws that Fitz will make that Jamies can’t and they are usually TD
If Jamies could hit the long throw we would have been running out the clock

  27. ATrain Says:

    Hey TB

Fitz Won hands down against two top teams with this offense

  28. Hawk Says:

With all the information available at your fingertips, and so many of you are still spouting falsehoods as if they were facts.

First of all, Winston is *not* throwing the ball too much. He is ranked 10th in attempts per game, and he is in no danger of overtaking 1st place. And that’s with him playing fewer games than the leaders.

Secondly, Winston and Fitz have something in common.
    Fitzpatrick’s comp % is 67.4% with 45.7% turning into 1st downs.
    Winston’s comp % is 69% with 46% turning into 1st downs.

But there’s a little bit of difference in five other categories.
    Fitzpatrick’s average this year is 10.5 yd/att
    Winston’s average this year is 8 yd/att

Fitzpatrick has thrown a TD pass on 12.6% of his passes
Winston has thrown a TD pass on 6% of his passes

Fitzpatrick has thrown 20+ yards on 23% of his passes
Winston has thrown 20+ yards on 9% of his passes

Fitzpatrick has thrown 40+ yards on 8% of his passes
Winston has thrown 40+ yards on 1.3% of his passes

Fitzpatrick has thrown an interception on 5.75 of his passes
Winston has thrown an interception on 7.7% of his passes

And no one believes in QB ratings, so I won’t even list it.
I said all of the above to clear up some misinformation that’s being spread, and to say that if an old, run-down, perennial backup can put up those numbers, then a first-pick, once-in-a-lifetime, can’t miss, NFL-ready, elite- franchise QB should be doing a *lot* better.
And PLEASE, don’t start calling for Fitz to start. It’s not the right thing to do, but more importantly, it’s not going to happen. Just expect better from *all* the players, not excuses, or apologies.

  29. ATrain Says:

Ok question because many of you say Jamies is not the problem then What is?

Same Offense from first two game IF Jamies is elite QB then he should be doing way more

What changed from the first two games. JAMIES

OH AND GODWIN DROPPING TWO IN THE ENDZONE by the way we would be 4-3 if he didn’t drop

This team should put 35+ points on the board with a Great QB

  30. LakeLand Says:

    The Bottom Line:
    19-28

  31. Tc Says:

Winston presses because he has to take chances to score because the d and kicking game sucks. The d gives up 400 yards and 30+ points a game and the kicker will miss an extra point and a couple of field goals a game.

  32. Tc Says:

Seriously, Fitz is what he is – journeyman backup Qb for a reason.

  33. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

Beautiful throw, but I agree with Dreambig’s comment up top…

  34. Hawk Says:

    @ Tc
I’m guessing you’re a Winston hater, as your statements are very damning. Since Fitzpatrick has played with the same defense and kickers, and most of his stats are better, you’re either saying that Winston has hit his ceiling, or he is very slow at learning the QB position in the NFL. And as everyone has pointed out, Fitz is crap.

  35. Serge Says:

I rather watch Winston with his turnovers and occasional wtf plays, than someone like Osweiler throwing away every other third down because he was afraid to turn it over.

  36. ben Says:

Trade Winston b4 the deadline …He can’t connect on the long ball or hit receivers in stride ..

  37. FR Says:

4 SEASONS NO PLAYOFF IS THE THE ONLY STAT IM LOOKING AT, F THE REST. I DONT CARE WHO FAULT IT IS.

  38. SteveK Says:

    Hawk,

    Great presentation of statistics, thanks!

That confirms what my eyes have seen, and the guy feeling.

Fitz was lighting it up, and Winston is not doing too bad.

I agree with DreamBig’s take. Why can’t a #1 overall pick clearly outperform some need from Harvard going into his 14th season?

  39. LakeLand Says:

I keep saying this and I will continue to say it

Jameis Winson don’t have the luxury of playing in the AFC South
He plays in the NFC South
The Buccaneers as a team has a hard time competing in this division
There is no room for errors in this division
Teams has to play near-perfect football to compete

Drew Brees- 220 passes- No INT–147-107 career record
    Matt Ryan- 263 passes-2 INT—-98-67 career record
    Cam Newton- 209 passes-4 INT–66-47-1—career record

These QB and their teams has a lot of experience pf WINNING football games
This isn’t a knock on Jameis Winston or the Bucs
They has the misfortune of playing in the NFC South

In other divisions they can get away with the mistakes and turnovers
But not in this division, these teams are too good

  40. LakeLand Says:

If Jameis played in the AFC South
He would probably have a career of 28-19
With a couple of playoffs under his belt

But the REALITY is, he plays in the NFC South

  41. Bucsfanman Says:

TBTemojin- Run game is part of the offense right? Scoring? Passing yards do not always tell the whole story. This team should be scoring 30+ a game!
With that said, Hawk and ATrain make the most valid points regarding this offense. Fitzpatrick, by everybody’s own admission is a turnover-prone over-the-hill back-up QB, BACK-UP. AND that’s just who he is. Jameis Winston is a #1 overall pick who by all accounts, SHOULD be light years better than a washed-up back-up like Fitz. We all sat here and went, “Geee, imagine what Jameis can do with this offense if Fitz is putting up these kind of numbers?!” We ALL did.
Maybe this is the game that turns that corner. This offense should be way more fluid than it is right now. So yea, it’s underachieving!

  42. Noles Says:

So you would rather have Mariota & one playoff appearance. Please….. Jameis was the right pick Mariota SUCKS!!!!! & Guess who wanted to pick Mariota, that’s right Klueless did… he needs to go & take Jason with you please!!

  43. Tom Edrington Says:

If Jameis is an “elite talent” then why is he not an “elite” quarterback???

  44. Hawk Says:

    @ Ben
The team is not going to trade Winston. They *cannot* trade Winston. They have too much invested, and there is still hope (though less than when he was drafted). He needs to play the rest of this year, and *maybe* next year. He was not just a first-round draft pick. He was *THE* first pick of that draft. Billed as a ‘can’t- miss, once-in-a-lifetime, NFL ready, elite franchise QB’. That kind of player gets every opportunity to succeed/fail.
As fans, we need to root for him to turn into what was promised.

  45. Noles Says:

Lakeland you are right about NFC South… we have bad luck as Tampa fans… Just like Rays in AL East…

  46. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Tampaspicer Says: “And that my friends is something Fitz can’t do.”

Correct, Tampaspicer, and in fact only a certain number of NFL QB’s make that throw.

  47. EEK Says:

    Tampabaybucfan – EXACTLY!

Let’s have some self esteem as a team and walk away from Winston.

He’s shown us what he is.

  48. jmarkbuc Says:

Despite giving the football away like it’s Halloween candy, Jameis remains an elite talent on display…

Well there you have it..The conundrum that is JW

  49. Dre Says:

The problem we have with the bucs is we have a overrated defensive player in Gerald McCoy where his laziness and ability to miss games because of injuries and removing himself from games rubs off on players on defense … yeah great leader …. and we have a overrated offensive player in Jameis Winston where some fans honestly are brainwashed into thinking he’s in the same category as Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady … whatever his record is since licking his fingers is besides the point …. both are cancers to the locker room … yeah he can show up to work before everyone else and he can have his charity work and throw for whatever number of passing yards that pleases your hearts but what’s under the microscope is wins and losses and he has more of the latter… I wouldn’t pay him 100 million … hell not even 50 million … your in the NFL jameis … this isn’t high school and it isn’t college … you had the keys to the team for 3 and a half years now and your wins still do not add up to a whole season …. you want respect? Win games … get this team to the playoffs like real elite quarterbacks do … your defense was helping you win the game last week and you made bone head plays that could have cost us the game we really should have lost … prove us wrong jameis … if we go into cincy and you have another multi turnover game and a loss and these fans of yours still come in saying your a great qb then we certainly have the dumbest fanbase in the league

  50. Jaywill Says:

Dreambag yes Winston had 3 turnovers 2 were cause by teammates mistakes…You have to have balance in your criticism. It seems Fitz got balanced criticism for his mistakes from Winston haters.

  51. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Tampabaybucfan Says: “With Jameis you are forced to choose between inconsistency and excellence. That is a very unfortunate dilemma.”

Wow man, that is about as well-summarized, with as few words, as I have ever seen. Extremely well said man.

It is no secret that I am a big fan of #3. — Let’s hope that the inconsistencies can grow less, and the excellence can continue to flourish.

  52. LakeLand Says:

If the Bucs hadn’t beat New Orleans
They could have Bradley Chubb and his 6.5 sacks

    We can always say ‘could’ve , should’ve

    But the bottom line is:
This teams makes too many mistakes
From signing the wrong free agents
    Drafting the wrong players
    Playing the wrong players
    Turning the ball over

  53. SteveK Says:

What about Jameis taking back to back sacks in OT?

Great point, Tom Edrington, can the “elite” talent blossom into an “elite” QB?

Winston is a #1 pick, it’s fair to expect a franchise QB.

Hopefully we make the playoffs and Winston clears up and questions remaining.

  54. Wausa Says:

Really incredible to read the lunacy on this board.

Jamies and Steve Young are both far and away the best QB’s this franchise has ever had yet fans want the Bucs to make the same mistake the franchise made when they got rid of Steve Young.

  55. LakeLand Says:

    These are the Bucs!

    BucItUp
    BucItUp

    BucItDown

  56. Buccernutter Says:

The haters have such a simple analysis for Jameis. You guys literally look at stats and turnovers always outweigh anything good. It’s bias and lazy.

Here’s something you may not know. Tomlin figured out what to do to stop throwing deep pass from Fitz. Blitz. Chicago emulated them and embarrassed Fitz. If he continued to play he would not be as successful as he is due to the simple fact that he is nowhere near as good as Jameis with intermediate routes which the NFL primarily is. Sure the deep passes are nice and Fitz is better than Winston at them but they don’t last, they’re flukey, and theyve been figured out by the league for the bucs. We saw how Fitz plays with seasonal adjustments in Chicago.

I always said it was bittersweet when Fitz played like he did because dumb fans will think he could keep that up all season. The haters will focus on those bombs and belittle Jameis for all of his mistakes. The 3 interceptions never get brought up by fitz people. Jameis’s 4 touchdowns and any of his positive plays are never brought up either. Right now Fitz is 2-2. Jameis is 1-1. Jameis has had 2 400 yard games just like Fitz has. Both have multiple turnover games as well.

I just hope you know Jameis isn’t going anywhere. Fitz won’t take his job and Jameis will be our guy for a long time. You may hope he fails which is pathetic but he won’t. You’ll continue to exaggerate his flaws and ignore his accomplishments but one day you’ll see this guy is above-average and only getting better. God forbid he eliminates his turnovers or you’ll have to go back to crab leg and Uber jokes.

Jameis is going to ball Sunday! Let’s go!!!!!!!!

  57. LakeLand Says:

    Wausa

The Bucs were never going to win with Steve Young
They did Steve Young a favor by trading him
They wanted to trade him to the Cardinals
But Steve Young talked Culverhouse out of it

It took an offensive genius like Bill Walsh
For him to reach his full potential

  58. Jaywill Says:

Topcoach1978 not one elite qb that went to a bad team did not have turnovers issued in the early years of their career…No young qb has won anything without an average defense or one thats not top 10 in 3rd down defense. A good defense is a qbs best friend then oline and running game. The better the run game the less turnovers a young qb will have. Once an elite hard-working talented qb gains experience the less importance a run game and good defense becomes. The qb can make up for the defense’s flaws like they did his flaws when he was a young qb.

  59. Bbriggs46 Says:

Only haters will bring up the sack. Who cares! He still made a play after the sack that lead to a game winning FG. Wouldn’t have had to take a dam sack had the kicker made it in regulations. Don’t never mind, don’t bring that up. Losers!!

  60. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Damn @Dre, who pissed in your coffee this morning?

    Just kidding man,,, Go BUCS

  61. J Says:

    Get Tua 2020

  62. Buc1987 Says:

RustyRhinos…throwing the ball 50 times a game might lead to some int’s ……for every QB in the league…just saying. but lets pick apart every single throw that was made and judge from there. Seems fair? Not to me.

  63. LakeLand Says:

    J

I think Jon Gruden has his eyes on Tua
He already has two 2020 first round draft picks
He will tank for him , or trade up for him

  64. SteveK Says:

What are Fitz vs Jameis’ TD:Turnover ratio? Jameis’ worse in that category.

    Buccernutter,

That is bologna. How come Fitz can hit DJax on deep balls, and hit more deep balls overall than Jameis?

    Stats don’t lie.

Why can’t Jameis hit DJax deep? It’s depressing to see an elite talent at WR go wasted bc our -#1 overall pick can’t drop a deep ball in a bucket.

I believe in and expect more from Jameis. Not a hater, just a die hard Buc Fan and not a FSU apologist.

We need results this year, or we might be getting a new GM, HC, and QB.

  65. Herbicide Says:

If it wasn’t for a missed 40 yard fg
Jaboo would have only one pic and a lost
Fumble which wasn’t his fault. I thought Jamies played a good game

  66. Hawk Says:

    @ Bbriggs46
You’re doing the same thing that you’re accusing everyone else of doing. You pick *one* play (missed FG), and blame that on everything that happens bad afterward. I can do you one better, though. When the leagues *#1 offense* forces their inconsistent kicker on the field to decide a game against *THE BROWNS*, there is something wrong with that offense. That game should have never come down to the kicker. Never.

  67. Buc4evr Says:

There is no way to accurately judge Jameis with a team that is so bad. He is always put in a bad situation by the O-line, defense or the kicker. Until those areas are addressed, he will always be put in the mode of having to pass 60 times a game and trying to bring the team back in the last few minutes of every game. Yeah he takes a lot of risks, but often has no choice.

  68. SteveK Says:

Franchise QBs make those around them better. Their play lifts those up around them.

Jameis can do this, and we need him to lead us to the playoffs.

  69. Anthony Lash Says:

Why are we even talking about jameis when the entire time jameis has been the QB we have had either a historically bad defense or the worst defense statistically in history. Some of you guys can’t even handle a girlfriend let alone carry the worst defense in the history of the NFL statistically speaking. This ain’t pick up sticks. He actually needs to not have to score 35 points every game. It feels like wlif we don’t score on every possession we lose.

  70. Buccernutter Says:

No Steve k it’s not bologna. U just don’t understand the game like I do.

Fitz is better at deep balls. I just said that. He’s not better at anything else. History proves this. You can debate thar til u choke if u want but you’re wrong.

Lol the fact that you used the line stays don’t lie just proves your lazy analysis. I agree it’s sad to see djax wasted he jsut doesn’t fit what Jameis is doing. The offense would be a lot better if Jameis didnt feel obligated to mimic what Fitz did.

But u decide. Would u rather have a below average QB with a solid deep threat that won’t hit on those as often as he did or an above average QB who could be elite and is much younger. Both of which turn the ball over.

Jameis is just better at everything else than the deep ball. It’s a fact but keep glorifying 2 games lol.

    ROTFLMAO!!
Buccernutter, it is *NOT* a fact that Jameis is better at everything else. Scroll up and look at the stats (FACTS). Jameis is not a terrible QB, as some in here are claiming, but he also hasn’t measured up to his billing… by a long shot. The rest of this season needs to be all Jameis. I had very high hopes when he was drafted, but quite frankly, I’m am losing confidence when his stats are no better (and in some cases worse) than a perennial backup.
And, AGAIN, to the idiots who keep saying that Jameis is being asked to throw too much… stop! He is averaging 31.2 attempts/game this year. If he is called upon to throw a lot in a game, it’s because *his* offense isn’t scoring.

  72. BringBucsBack Says:

Some more items #3 is better at than Fitz:

Throwing into double & triple coverage
    Rendering D-Jack useless
    The “Ass-pass”
    INTs
Locking onto his receiver with eyes
    Miss receivers being open
    Under-throw
    Over-throw
    Lead (ahem)
    Fumble
    Slow starts
Reduce an explosive offense to a good one
    Etc…

This is a nice play but, you are mistaken if you think Fitz couldn’t have made it too.
Terry Bradshaw immediately came to mind as one who wondered why Fitz did not remain as the starter. Others have made the same claim. I understand though, we have to finish the season with Winston so we can see if he is any different in his fourth year than he was in his previous five as a QB?!

We are not “hating”, he is similar in his output to McCoy. We “haters” simply expect them to be better. We “haters” are not oblivious to their talents, we just simply expected them both to be better and don’t ignore major shortcomings and repetitive behavior.

  73. Buccernutter Says:

Ok you’re right not everything else. Just mostly everything else.

Jameis has far exceeded Fitz in his first 3 years in comparison to Fitzs. The fact were debating a 15 year vet to a 4 year one should speak volumes. Like I said your stat googling is lazy analysis. I mean do u guys seriously believe Fitz is better? What is wrong with this damn fan base?

Let’s let the next 10 games play out before Fitz is annointed the better player.

Sad an int outweighs everything else.

  74. Buccernutter Says:

Hey you’re pigeonholing yourself into the haters category. Not me. They do exist and I wasn’t talking to u specifically.

There are dumb fans that think Jameis sucks. Doesn’t mean you’re one.

  75. Dapostman Says:

Carson Wentz record this year is 2-3. With that roster!! Sit down Winston Derangement Syndrome simpletons. You are looking foolish.

  76. Hawk Says:

    @ Buccernutter
You cannot compare *any* QBs’ years/games to Winston (or any other QB). Different players, coaches, opponents, rules. You *can* compare two QBs who play on the same team, during the same year. The fact that we CAN compare their stats speaks volumes.
Look at this years’ stats, and the strength of their opponents’ defense.
I don’t know if Winston can play better than Fitz in this offense, but as a Buc fan who wants *LOTS* of wins, I hope he can. I will cheer for him as long as he wears pewter, but I will *not* be blind to his shortcomings either.
BTW, interesting moniker. I don’t know why, but I like it. Maybe I can relate (nutter). 🙂

  77. Hawk Says:

And I know the haters exist. They do for all players who in the limelight. Goes with the territory. For the record, I was not in favor of drafting Winston or Mariota. I wanted the team to trade down, and start building a defense. The years that the Bucs were relevant, they had a top ten defense. Super Bowls have been won with great defenses, and average QBs (Bucs, Ravens, Bears, etc). The Bucs were *way* more than a QB from being relevant.

  78. Buccernutter Says:

Okay agreed with most. But I still think evaluating them is very biased as Fitz had a much better situation starting game 1 with no tape and those weapons vs bad defenses.

Jameis needs more time to be evaluated fully and that’s why I get annoyed with the fitz clan. I think you’ll be happy we drafted him when all is said and done.

  79. Dapostman Says:

    @Hawk,

I hope you are not a math teacher. Winston has attempted 113 throws in 2.5 games. He only played half a game in Chicago. That averages out to 45 throws a game. I’m not counting the 16 times he dropped back and took off to run the ball. If you count those we are looking at over 50 drop backs a game. I would say the ‘idiots’ are the ones who can’t do simple math. As for not measuring up to his billing he has improved every year since he was a 21 year old starter.

    Now for some facts.
Winston has thrown for 905 yards in 2.5 games = 362 yards per game average. That’s in 10 quarters of football. Average that out to a 64 quarter season and you get 5792 passing yards. The NFL ALL TIME RECORD is 5477. Winston is on pace to break the NFL passing record. The WDS simpletons will say it’s about points not yards. Well how many short fields has this defense given Winston? Very few so when you are starting deep in your own territory you better get YARDS for a chance to score. Against the Browns 3 possessions started at their own 1 and one became a safety after two plays giving up the ball. Winston is who he is right now but when that light clicks he’s going to be even better.

  80. Hawk Says:

You are right Dapostman. Dyslexia bit me on that one.
ALL QBs get bad breaks. You can’t hold up 1-2 possessions as the norm. There were plenty of possessions with decent field position when the offense came a way with nothing.
I don’t give a tinker’s damn about yards. That is why you won’t see me using them to defend/vilify anyone. Wins are what count, and points are what will get them.
And I am really tired of hearing this “He’s only X years old”! The Winston cheerleaders ( Joe included), repeatedly said that he was “the most NFL-ready QB” in the last decade. He will “raise the level of play, of those around him”.
My hope that we weren’t sold a bill of goods is fading. He has the rest of this season, and ‘maybe’ next, to show the organization that they weren’t wrong. I believe that is fair, and will support him.

  81. Hawk Says:

And no, I am not a math teacher.
My first degree is in engineering, and I chose it without realizing that math (my least favorite subject) played a *huge* part in that degree. Boy, did I ever have an unwelcome surprise. lol

  82. DaPostman Says:

    @ Hawk,

    Well played sir. Touché!

  83. feelthepewterpower Says:

Someone show Beckles this play…hit him right in the chest in OT!

  84. stpetebucsfan Says:

The hyperbole really makes political and sports blogs laughable at times.

I’ve been called many names here…some have trouble figuring out that I like JW but am honest enough to see his flaws. I do not view him as St. Jameis but I do not hate him…I still view him as a QB with potential…that may change over the next ten games which are a huge prove it stretch for JW…Koetter…Duffner and plenty of other players.

I’m Irish and so I’m prejudiced towards Fitz…I enjoy well educated smart people…again that makes me like Fitz…but he is NOT and never has been at the level of JW. It’s just a fact.

The Bucs have literally invested a MAJOR chunk of this franchise in #3. They will not bail on him unless forced to do so. They are not yet forced…but turnovers and off field hijinks might have them at minimum considering options.

Fameis isn’t going anywhere this season. He IS the Bucs starting QB and barring injury will finish the season as a starter.

After than…who knows…JW has shown promise of success and failure…we don’t really know yet…but CONTRACT and salary cap issues are going to invade this debate soon enough.

Win 7 of the remaining ten and JW is golden…go .500 and he gets another chance….put up a losing record…get a greedy agent and things could change.

Do we all not agree on one thing…it’s better for us as Buc fans if JW succeeds wildly? Let’s let him show what he can do with THIS team over the next ten games and we’ll know more.

  85. Hawk Says:

    Well put, stpetebucsfan, well put.

  86. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Lol “fake Bucs fans”

Who the hell pretends to be a fan of a team that hasn’t won a playoff game in almost 20 years? No fake fans here haha

  87. Bucsfanman Says:

stpete- You sir, are definitely a hater!!! Mariota lover! LOL!
Thank you for keeping me grounded with your well-thought post.

  88. SteveK Says:

    Buccernutter,

Fitz makes better decisions at the line, but a lot of that is experience.

No argument from me that Jameis is the superior talent, we just need to see superior results.

I hope Jameis puts it all together and leads us to the playoffs.

I believe in Jameis’ ability, just hope the mistakes/unforced errors can improve.

  89. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Bucfansman

LMAO. I know there are people here who believe that.

I confess I still have questions about Jameis…it’s just been hard to totally commit yet. But Mariota has nothing to do with this discussion anymore IMHO.

I get that because of their history as #1 and #2 picks they’ll forever be linked…but there is no comparison other than that quirk of history for me. I consider JW far…far..superior to Mariota…and I’m not a Mariota hater…it is what it is. Mariota is only fit for Tennessee fan boards.

The guy who has been fascinating me is Baker Mayfield. Obviously it’s far too soon but he’s off to a great start…he’ already won two rookie of the week awards six games into the season.

  90. John Says:

@SchwiftyBuc with what could possibly the only sensible approach and comment when it comes to Jameis on this website ever lol some of you idiots really need to learn to separate the negative from the positive when it comes to the QB. He does WAY more good things when it comes to his performance on the field than he does bad. That last throw was the type of pass only the great ones are capable of. Does he need to play better? Absolutely. He’s not even close to his ceiling In terms of how he is capable of playing on a consistent basis. I expect a huge game from #3 this Sunday. Bad weather or not!
