Joe’s got must-watch video here for you, 17 seconds of new Bucs defensive coordinator Mark Duffner doing his best I’m-not-Mike-Smith impression.
Smith spent his time on game days away from players up in a coach’s booth like a lot of coordinators do.
Duffner decided this Bucs team needed their new DC on the sidelines. Joe doesn’t care either way; Joe just wants to see good defense.
Still, Duffner’s approach is more hands on and maybe that’s what this up-and-down defense needed: a stable leadership presence in their faces.
Defensive tackle Beau Allen was “Mic’d Up” for Sunday’s game and the compilation video is below. At the 3:40 mark, you’ll see Duffner address his defense after halftime. It’s a great peek into Duffner. Rah-rah doesn’t lead to victories, but respecting your coaching sure can.

That was an impressive speech by Duff. Not something you can do every week, but the the players were intently listening. Good stuff Joe!

I liked it and they liked it, I also liked the way they played–played with effort and intensity–their heads were in this game–good to hear this spirit filled rant by Dufner.

I just like it better, having the DC down on the field with his guys. Defense is about energy, passion & heart, and having Duffner down there in amongst his players is great for that.

Nassib has the goods. Given time, a lot of weight room work and he can be great. Just like I said Godwin was the steal of the draft, Nassib is another. Watch his technique, the kid has got the goods.

Hey I actually got to see myself in the crowd on that goal line stand. I am the one in the top right corner rushing down the stairs at the 4:34 mark with a red Ronde Barber Jersey screaming my guts out!

I think you might be right on the money about Carl Nassib. I actually really liked what I saw from him while watching Hard Knocks and was surprised the Browns let him go. — He may indeed end up being an absolute steal for us.

Agreed about Nassib. He was a guy I wanted in the draft the year he came out too… Glad Licht grabbed him when he was cut.

You say you don’t if the DC is in the box or on the sideline but even if you have a good defense you’ll be able to fire them up and talk to individuals when you’re on the sideline. Could make a good defense great. Our defense sure as hell looked better than anytime Smith was in the box. And Smith was firey as hell as HC in ATL. Maybe he thought he would have a heart attack on the sidelines.

Love that scene when hit lie led the 59 yard game winner MIke Evans jumping up and down so flipping happy I’m happy for our team I personally think we should just go for it on 4th down all the time and go for 2pts too

The local media and sheep love talking and a good speech!!!!!!! We will see how well that works when they play actual competent teams in the coming weeks!!!!!!!! Coach duf better give the speech of a lifetime because this roster is going to need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it just me, or did Duffner sound like a pirate in that speech? Awesome stuff.
