Report: Bucs Fear The Worst For Kwon Alexander

Joe feels terribly for Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander, and the Bucs now appear to find themselves in a very sticky situation.
Kwon Alexander left the field today with a knee injury and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that his sources say the Bucs fear a dreaded ACL tear for Kwon, which would end his season and put the 2019 season in jeopardy.
Yes, players recover from ACL’s in eight to 10 months, but some need a year or more.
Kwon’s contract expires after the season and he and his agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, were in talks with the Bucs about a new deal. In the fourth-year of his rookie contract, Kwon was earning the NFL version of peanuts as a fourth-round draft pick. Joe had heard Kwon was seeking Lavonte David money, aka $10 million per season.
Scoring anything like that would be pure fantasy, if he indeed has an ACL tear.
Tough decisions ahead for the Bucs’ front office. But Joe’s not sure it’ll be that difficult. This team has too many needs to pay a big contract to a player with a serious injury. Hopefully, the Bucs can find a way to bet on Kwon that makes sense for both sides.
Tonight, Joe will think of Kwon and hope the strong game he played today wasn’t his last in a Bucs uniform.

Sucks for Kwon. Although his play hasn’t always been great, I certainly root for the guy. He def plays with heart.
And today he was looking stellar in his play. It’s a shame. Eerily similar to VH3 looking like he had turned the corner, and then getting injured.
From a business perspective, this could be good for the Bucs. Could prob negotiate a much lower, 2 year deal with incentives, or something to prove it. Of course That will also depend if Beckwith comes back and can play at a high level as MLB.

I hope he’s able to come back and have a healthy season next year but his time in Tampa should be over unless he takes a reasonable salary.

It’s probably his last game. If not, he’ll get a one-year prove-it deal. He doesn’t deserve the big money yet.

I was not a world class athlete (although, I was in fantastic shape) when I blew my knee (ACL & MCL) but, I couldn’t put my weight on it, at all, let alone walk across a football field, immediately upon injuring it. Hopefully it is not a tear or something too serious.

Kwon had 7 tackles in the first half and was playing very well……his leadership will be missed….I feel really bad for a player who gets injured in a contract year…..very tough going but we are not a charity….he will have to sign a prove it contract…..
I sure hope Beckwith can return this season and play like he is capable of playing….we have some depth at LB as we do on the entire D….but we seem to be losing a starter every week.

If true then maybe they get a one year deal done hoping he comes back strong, but man, this stinks. I don’t care what the stat line says Taylor looked terrible, like he was running in mud, then who else is left, Joe Dirt? That’s not good. Man, this is a killer injury, hopefully Beckwith is back at the earliest possible date and can step in at middle LB and start.

Injuries don’t deter Licht. He loves to shop at the Scratch and Sales. He will probably give Alexander more than he asks for now that he’s injured. The stellar medical staff will give Licht a highly inaccurate timeline for Alexander’s recovery and Licht will believe them.

I would be surprised if the injury is torn ligaments.
I’m not sure a player could walk that easily on an ACL/MCL.
Most I’ve seen—and I’ve seen a bunch…don’t lat an athlete put any pressure on the joint.

You don’t tear something and walk off without a limp. Ian rapopoop and his sources. I hope this isn’t the news he gets right but I miss beckwith now more than ever. As far as all the people speculating on his injury and wh there he should get paid, he will get paid because he can ball he’s young and can recover. All the hate for Keon this season and we only have 3 GOOD linebackers on the roster. We have like 6-7 guys but none of them play to the level of David beckwith and kwon.
Why the heck are you listening to joe debating someone’s future Because of a injury he knows nothing about yet. This is like Rapoport 4-6 week timeline on oj Howard. Our fans suck big time so does our media

Wasn’t the Redskins rookie RB up and walking around without much of an issue only to find out next day he was done for the year? It’s not common to be able to walk off the field like that, but it’s not unheard of. Hopefully the doom and gloom is wrong because he’s hugely important if the defense is going to keep any momentum from this game.

Idk why we don’t move Lavonte to Mike when Kwon is out. In my mind Mike is more important than Will so why wouldn’t we move our best backer to the middle, at least until Beckwith is ready to go.

SchwiftyBuc – David is perhaps the best OLB in football, why would you move him, that makes no sense. Beckwith is a natural MLB so ideally he can step into that role.

Kwon was having a good game, but he hasn’t played worth ten million a year the past two seasons. Maybe this is a blessing Licht didn’t get to lock him up long term. Add MLB to our draft needs, or would it be better to change to a 3-4 when everyone gets fired?

1 They can do a short term deal of two years at a lower price, allowing him to earn a bigger contract when he returns.
2 The Bucs never release any information directly after a game because they prefer to see the test results first. So I’m guessing Ian Rapoport’s source is a player who doesn’t have that information and overheard other players (possibly Kwon) panicking.
So I would take this with a grain of salt until more is known.

Beckwith is allowed to return as of tonight, I believe…or tomorrow. Whether he is ready is a whole other question.

His injury is not relevant. Kwon’s play is. He had a good half today, first time in a long time… Doesn’t change the fact that he is a lot like Jameis, supposed to be great, really just above average.

Jamies is 24 years old. Why can he grow like every other young quarterback give him time. Fizpatrick only had 2 good season out of a 14 years. I hope Jamies leave this poor franchise and these racist fan base. Y’all just don’t want a black quarterback and that’s truth. Let’s bring a white quarterback so y’all can be happy. I know he can come in and y’all will give him 5 to 10 years to grow…

Can you imagine playing your ass off for little more than a CFL player for four years only to have that happen in the middle of your last year?
Absolutely Tragic.
This is why NFL players need a better union deal. The veterans sold out the younger players. Only way to get paid in your first four years is if you are drafted in first round. And the average NFL career is probably only four years or less.

Hard to see the Glazers invest in Kwon @ full market value, without certainty in ACL recovery…Could see Bucs FO playin hardball in negotiations, but they better 100% willing to watch Kwon walk…In which case, keep an eye on UofBuffalo MLB Khalil Hodge!

Alexander was lights out yesterday and there is no questioning his heart, wish him a strong rehab and to come back for the future. His contract issues are more of the NFL system where contracts have to be earned to get the upfront money.
A shame a good player like him got injured and that the financial hit to him will be devasting. The GM won’t have any choice but to pay him based on his ability to play next year and his rehab.
Right now its speculation what they’ll do with him. His body of work since he joined the team has been inconsistant and in the past when healthy there were many games where teams ran up the middle on the Bucs so his position is one which can be filled in by a free agent combined with a 3rd or 4th round pick.
Good linebackers are not nearly as valuable as good coverage corners and edge rushers. Those are the positions to spend cap space on.

Looks like a 1 year contract around $3 million for the heart of the defense. When he can prove next year he is back, then work for a long term deal.
Would be great to say we could upgrade, but too many holes on the roster to address. Kwon is good. Keep him.
