Koetter Gushes Over Peyton Barber

Remember when Lovie Smith was asked about young cornerback Johnthan Banks, he consistently found a way to share some love for veteran corner Mike “Toast” Jenkins.
Dirk Koetter channeled is his former boss a bit yesterday.
Koetter hopped on SiriusXM NFL Radio and was asked how rookie Ronald Jones is faring and where he fits in. Koetter said Jones is coming along fine used the opportunity to gush over the guy playing ahead of Jones.
“I still think that our No. 1 back is gonna be Peyton Barber. I really, Peyton had a great week of practice this week,” Koetter said. “I don’t think Peyton has really got enough opportunities.”
You really had to hear Koetter’s tone. There was a load of love and respect for Barber in there.
Joe strongly suspects this Sunday is the 20-carry, 100-yard game for Barber that fans have been waiting for after Barber opened very strongly in the first half against the Saints.
Barber has just 15 carries through the last two games. Atlanta allows 4.9 yards per carry and is as bad as the Bucs are on defense. It’s all set up very nicely for No. 25.

We’ll see… I haven’t seen him display any sort of ability to MAKE things happen. Hard not to be jealous after watching Saquan Barkley the other night. This offense is one DYNAMIC back away from being tops in the league.

If he hasn’t gotten enough opportunities then make it so coach. If he’s your number back the why the hell is quizz getting so many carries. Amateur head coach has to have more than people skills to run a team.

Jay Gruden is starting to dislike having Josh Norman on the Redskins, maybe we should make a trade? The cap hit would be tough, though, $22 million a year.

I would love to see a good solid run game this weekend
But like mentioned. . . I we fall behind early that pretty much goes out the window.
We must get to Ryan early in this game to set the tone or he could light us up

Barber is a good RB and he’s what the Bucs have but it’s no secret that the running game is a distant 4th in this division. Having said that, the Bucs took it to the Saints
who have not one but two of the more dynamic backs in the the league. Of course one of them was absent in that season opener. In that game it was the passing of
Fitzpatrick that made the difference. We’ll see how Jameis does in this game. We have seen him throw for a ton of yards before and he will have the opportunity to do the same in this game. It could happen but the question is can he do it week in and week out. The rubber is about to meet the road for Jameis and I wish him the best for continued success throughout the season.

@Blogtalkfootball.com That is a good idea on paper I think Norman would really love punching his old team in the mouth a couple of times a year but honestly he’s about the pride and money in the end (too hot-headed and self-centered) talented enough just not long-term material in the long run and like you mentioned that salary is ridiculous we are nowhere near one guy away on the defense do you remember that theory going down the tubes with Revis?

Set up nicely? Is this the standard to live up to these days? Truly sad. Do you mean the 100 yard game is basically being handed on a platter? No one wants that. You would think in three seasons he could earn it. He had four games to do it so far this year. When you are ineffective you don’t get the ball. Look at Eli. They just gave it to Barkley even when they were losing. If Barber was able to take over a game the team wouldn’t have to rely on the pass so much. Hence, everyone knows what is coming. Barber hasn’t even taken over a half much less a full game since he has been here. Atlanta will play it simple with a loaded box forcing Winston to be competent. Just like most teams this year.

Season is Over, does Barber have to take over a game to impress you?
Just because the guy is not a superstar RB does not mean he can’t be effective……..Don’t worry about what he’s done over the last four games when the team has yet to even try to establish a rush.
It would be one thing if we couldn’t establish a run but it’s a lot different when we haven’t even tried.

The Falcons defense is a good defense to try to get Peyton Barber going.
Probably shouldn’t feel good about this game after what the Bucs did against the Bears, but I think this is a good matchup for the Bucs.

Benenoch as a 5th round pick is fine as a backup.
But we need a 2nd round stud at RG!
Rarely are guards taken in the 1st round. So, one of thebest guards in the country will always be available in the 2nd round!

Yes, what Barber has done in the first four games matters. If he had been effective it would have given more balance approach to the offensive game plan. This team should be 4-0 or 3-1. Not 2-2. Barber is partially responsible for this. He failed to hold his own to help Fitzpatrick. Both QBs are being hung out to dry by the lack of running game. Hopefully this changes with a 100 yards this week. One out of five isn’t bad I guess.

Hard to have a running game when the offense is set up for passing. I think the running game will open up soon. Have some patient you so called fans. Wondering when we get a running game how many fans complaints about not using our receivers. Some so called fans are never happy!

Season is over you must put Barbers usage in this first quarter of season into context.
Not sure if you didn’t read it above or don’t understand what it means but Barber got 15 carries the last two games.
He basically got the same number of carries over the first two games. It may mean nothing to you but when your up 3 scores and hand the ball to your RB to milk the clock it is a much doffenert opportunity then when you are driving in a tie game or a closely contested game.

Atl isnt quite as bad as the bucs on d. Opposing passer rating 102 compared to 130 of bucs. 130! Every qb is coming close to a perfect game every week. Thats hard to do. Shows an insane amount of predictability. If smitty doesnt somehow get the qb off his spot nothing will change. Hoping 4 guys beat 5, 6 and 7 every play isnt gona cut it. At least i hope he realizes that too after almost 2.5 seasons. I hope Smitty got his TRT therapy started during the bye!! If not please let someone else call the plays! Please!!

We definitely need to call more runs and at less obvious situations but Barber is nothing special. Some fans just like tough rbs but even with a better line he’s still a below average back. Other teams are getting too much pressure at the snap and he’s not quick or elusive enough to not get tackled at the line of scrimmage. Dirk & monken need to be trying to set Rojo up for succes and quit worrying about his pass catching abilities so much.

I think we still don’t know about Barber this year he has not gotten enough touches (20-25) a game to get into groove.
He had 50 attempts in 4 games. That’s little over 12 a game. You expect RB around league to have 12 attempts for 100 plus ??? C’mon
Last year he was getting those touches in his big games.

Forget everything, if Peyton Barber is the guy then who made the decision to get Ronald Jones as the 2nd Rd pick? Couldn’t they have gone after a corner if they felt Peyton was the guy? Was RoJo insurance if Peyton didn’t pan out? Then RoJo is a disappointment. You can’t have a double standard when someone asks you how good RoJo is. Come out and say he has to do better to match his 2nd round grade or that the Bucs AGAIN reached for RoJo too high.
If Koetter likes RBs who can catch, block, and run then who over-ruled him and forced his hand to draft RoJo? I’m not saying that RoJo won’t pan out, but you don’t reach for a project with the 2nd round pick. We should just forfeit all 2nd round picks since the people calling the shots find the 2nd round pick to be astrophysics.
This stinks of piss poor player scouting and player evaluation. PISS POOR.
