JPP Came To Play
September 30th, 2018It’s not all gloom and doom on the Buccaneers defense.
Yes, Joe refuses to hang his head like too many Buccaneers did on the sidelines today.
The defensive star of the first quarter of this season, Jason Pierre-Paul, continued to shine against the Bears. He led the Bucs in solo tackles, tied with Lavonte David at 6, and added an assist (David had none).
JPP also had two tackles for loss, including his fourth sack in four games.
He also was screaming at defensive teammates on the sidelines, as shown on the FOX broadcast (and the iconic JoeBucsFan.com photographer shared some of the juice with Joe in real-time on the sidelines).
JPP cares deeply and he’s been coming up big.
Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near enough. Still, JPP looks healthy and in his prime, and comfortable in the Mike Smith defense, which really should be the Mark Duffner defense later this week.
Bravo to Jason Licht for making the trade that made JPP a model Buccaneers, even if he did blow off spring practices.
Perhaps JPP will rub off soon on his other defensive line mates. The Bucs registered just three QB hits on Mitch Trubisky, which is deplorable and, yes, partially a function of invisible coverage by defensive backs.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:20 pm
Kwon Alexander is also looking reaaaaaal average these days!
September 30th, 2018 at 5:21 pm
Let’s see how we play against the falcons hope some changes are made mike Smith is clueless
September 30th, 2018 at 5:23 pm
Now this attitude should rub off on his buddy GMC.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:24 pm
He does not have the Buccaneers quit gene yet, give him time. This team was a joke today. How can this keep happening?
September 30th, 2018 at 5:24 pm
Wow so unfortunately lol we need to trade jpp because he’s unable to lift the play of guys around him like gmc. So pathetic when everyone has gmc is our best player but I don’t remember a feature article like this about his play on the field it’s been a long time. So like we said he would be the best player and adding an elite player would not change gmc stats one single bit. 2 for 2 jpp is a baller gmc is fat sloppy sensitive trash
September 30th, 2018 at 5:25 pm
I thought McCoy was going to be able to terrorize QBs once he had help on the D line? I’ve never been a McCoy hater, but damn, he does not show up with a crucial sack, or a tackle for a loss when it’s needed.
Great players make great plays. Average players make average plays. McCoy is average, IMO.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:25 pm
He’s I baller
On the plus side now mike evans and jw can pad their stats while we lose all year and blame everyone else.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:26 pm
I think Tmax and I are owed a huge apology.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:26 pm
We are ready for the Koetter confidence poll.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:26 pm
Mike evans should be benched
September 30th, 2018 at 5:26 pm
Joe, it is doom and gloom. It took Fitz to have the best start in NFL history to go 2-1. It was unsustainable. 5-11 is the special of the day.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:28 pm
Joe No article on the Best Million Dollar player
WHY.
NOTHING TO WRITE
DINT BE SCARED THEY WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF THE STADIUM IF YOU CALL THIS JOKE OUT
September 30th, 2018 at 5:29 pm
Robert, your comments are borderline retarded. Just stop. Mike Evan’s dropped it on purpose to get Jameus back? Do you even read the crap you type?
September 30th, 2018 at 5:30 pm
So I would be curious to see where JPP thinks the defensive issues are.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:36 pm
Set the tone. Fire Mike Smith and trade GMC. This defense will be heads down playing better with just those 2 changes. No more McSofties apologizing mid-hit. Build that DL around Vita and utilize JPP for the 1 or 2 elite seasons he has left and trade for a starting CB. This is the worst Bucs D in a long time. What a sham. Mike Smith would have been fired on almost any other team after last year.
It’s time to change the culture. We need some nasty on this defense and someone vocal enough to call people out and hold players accountable on the field.
I actually miss Schiano right now. Would have been a great DC. He’s just not HC material. Either Mike Smith flat sucks at coaching or he’s not demanding better play from his players. This defense needs a toes on the line kind of wake up call.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:39 pm
Kwon is a more natural outside, ala, Derrick brooks. I’d get tired of getting my head knocked off for a bunch of average dbs to give up a blown coverage next play too. I TOLD you guys to TARGET NIGEL BRADHAM!!!!!! Time to TOUGHEN UP, like, Nigel did with my soft eagles prior to his arrival. Nigel + jpp makes that Bucs defense lethal. But I would have traded for Khalil Mack as well.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:39 pm
Cg…he hates Jameis…THAT much.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:40 pm
JPP….I’m sorry you made the wrong decision to come to play for Mike Smith’s D when you had other options.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:41 pm
JPP is an NFL caliber talent a prideful professional…and may be the only one on that side ball. Vea was nothing short of horrible. He was two whole steps slower than anyone else off the football and was consequently mauled play after play. I hope to hell he has more short area quickness in him than he showed today b/c if he doesn’t, the kid is not going to cut it in the 4-3. Gerald and Curry are serviceable, but aging vets. Grimes looks real bad. Our LBs consistently overrun their gaps, undercut their coverages and look like completely bafoons out there. Our rookie DBs acted like they were trying to figure out how to knit a sweater.
The D has been a liability since the night Carolina carved us up back in 08. 10 years of bad coaching, marginal talent and a lack of killer instinct. Mike Smith is right up there with Bates, Sheridan and Frazier/Lovie. There’s just no way he should survive the off week.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:41 pm
Mr hot take “trex” needs to look up relativity. Mahomes had a better start and he’d never played. Lol!! Fitz wasn’t even top 30 first 3 games….unless you’re an ESPN fanboy easily swayed by talking heads
September 30th, 2018 at 5:43 pm
Litch has to share some of the blame also. We had a chance to get KMack before the Bears. We had a chance to get rb Guice or KJohnson(Lions) in the 2nd round but instead we take a player that can’t catch or block. We had a chance to get rid of MSmith after the worst defense last year noooo we bring him back only to created an embarrassing defense. Our offense had no motivation. Can u imagine how better this team would be if we had Mike Tomlinson or the Rams coach.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:43 pm
Making things up is why you’re in moderation. This was a good example–Joe
September 30th, 2018 at 5:45 pm
@joe
Not sure if you remember our convo during the joebucsfan draft party, it went something like this.
Joe: Vita is strong and powerful
Me: he’ll never make it in this heat, if you want to draft a DT get Da’Ron Payne from AL. He’s a champion and can handle the heat.
Da’Ron Payne – 7 solo tackles, 3 asst, 1 sack thru 3 games
Gerald McCoy – 4 solo tackles, 6 asst, 1.5 sacks thru 4 games
Vita Vea – 0, 0, 0 (is it safe to conclude he can’t play in the heat or is it completely coincidence that his first start was in 50 degree weather?)
Recap: the rookie from Al who was picked 1 pick after VV is outplaying BOTH VV and McIceCream combined.
Wondering if there’s a gm job opening up soon? Hmmmmm
September 30th, 2018 at 5:45 pm
The question is though, after those three knock downs, did our players apologize to Trebisky?
September 30th, 2018 at 5:50 pm
@DB55…. I have been saying Mcfake aka Batman is over rated as well. Been saying that for the last 3 plus years now.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:50 pm
Like most free agents that come here he will soon give up hope because we haven’t had motivating coaches that actually inspire in a long time. The fans can see it but people that make millions are oblivious.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:51 pm
Of course, it would be easy to lie and say GMC sucks. That would make you happy but make Joe a fraud.
September 30th, 2018 at 5:56 pm
Evans got the call from jw after week 2. Yo man you bout to kill our pro bowl chances and payday.
ME: no worries bro, I’ll handle it. No way we come back to win with this defense.
Fitz should have cut him off.
September 30th, 2018 at 6:01 pm
Robert ……you gotta get off the drugs man.
September 30th, 2018 at 6:07 pm
I was NEVER a GMC-hater until today. I always remained partial one way or the other. I saw both sides of the coin when it comes to him.
I swear to GOD if they trade him tomorrow no one would notice. We’ve been told that we would notice him gone by the peeps that tell us he’s great. I say teams will still gash us up the middle with runs and the pass rush will suck just the same with or without him.
Are they going to mention he played hurt again……and that’s why he’s so mediocre. You betcha!
Effing BS at some point!
September 30th, 2018 at 6:15 pm
Nothing wrong with Vea’s play today. I was at the game and he was doubled every single snap he had. He picked up steam as the game went on and got some serious push. McCoy was invisible.
September 30th, 2018 at 6:27 pm
DB55 yea it’s real easy to outplay someone inactive due to injury come back to earth please, your comparing stats for an injured guy who’s been out since training camp
September 30th, 2018 at 6:41 pm
Like I’m happy with 2-2 going into the bye be positive the Bucs will right this ship no worries bad games happen Trubisky had got so early confidence an rolled with it no worries get everyone healthy on this bye an go kick some bird ass week 5 let’s go Bucs how many of y’all would have said the Bucs would be 2-2 going into the Bye I bet not many we should of beat the Steelers but Bucs will be alright GoBucs
September 30th, 2018 at 7:11 pm
The secondary is horrific beyond belief, the d-line and the LBs are not a problem – the problem is guys running wide open. If you want to say the d-line is a problem, I’d say the constant stunting that takes too much time is the issue – but the guys have mostly played well there. However you can’t fix the entire secondary during the season, the beat you can do is let the kids play and hope they get better. This is on Licht for not addressing what everyone knew was the weakest part of the team – and no, expecting a couple of 2nd round corners to start day one isn’t addressing the issue.
September 30th, 2018 at 7:57 pm
Downright nasty DT in the first round 2019. Send Gerald packin. Top RG in the second. BENENOCH $UCKS B#LLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 30th, 2018 at 8:00 pm
This good young secondary should not learn one more thing from Mike Smith on how to play.
September 30th, 2018 at 8:33 pm
Not there yet
So you’d prefer the guy who is hurt and in his first game doesn’t show up on the stat sheet to a guy who as a rookie is outplaying a future hof (per Bucs fans and only buc fans)?
I see, my bad, how stupid of me bc once again wtfdik. Lmao.
#slooooooow

September 30th, 2018 at 9:35 pm
NTY
How about MJ Stewart over Donte Jackson.
September 30th, 2018 at 11:43 pm
Since McCoy has been on this team, our defense has sucked. Can we please admit that he is average and overpaid. Aren’t good players supposed to elevate the game of those around them?
Good players next to him, can’t even elevate McCoys game. He’s soft and his personality is like a cancer.
