Mitch Trubisky: “Jumpy” Bucs Secondary
September 29th, 2018When Bucs fans look at the NFL teams stats, they do a facepalm and mumble out loud, “Here we go again.”
The Bucs have the worst pass defense in the NFL. Broken record, right?
Opponents are completing a grotesque 78 percent of their passes. Joe’s not sure quarterbacks in Pasco County’s high school summer flag football league have that high of a completion rate.
The thing that makes the stat even more galling is that this year, for the first time since Michael Bennett (who the Bucs let go for no good reason) wore a Bucs uniform, the team actually has a pass rush. Jason Pierre-Paul is on pace for 16 sacks — 16!!!
Well, earlier this week, the Bears made quarterback Mitch Trubisky available to the Tampa Bay pen and mic club via conference call. So Joe asked Trubisky about the Bucs defense and he claimed there is a reason the secondary is getting lit up and it has nothing to do with the talent on hand.
Trubisky was talking yards allowed through the air. Only one team (Minnesota) has allowed more yards passing and the Vikings have played four games (the Bucs are 2-1).
Don’t blame the Bucs’ secondary, Trubisky said, blame the Bucs’ offense for being so good.
“The yards they are giving up are because of the shootouts they have been in,” Trubisky said. “Because they have put up so many points, opponents have been forced to be aggressive and they are throwing from behind.”
That does make some sense. If a team is three scores down, the team likely isn’t going to ground and pound. But 78 percent completion percentage is rather steep, no?
Trubisky seemed to hint part of that reason is maybe the Bucs’ secondary is too aggressive in trying to get picks and therefore leaves itself vulnerable.
“We want to get out to a good start and control the ball,” Trubisky said. “But we know they are going to take chances on defense because they are a very aggressive team. They are jumpy in the back end.”
Is that just a lack of discipline or being coached to be so aggressive? Or a combination of the two?

If Trubinsky eats up this secondary throw them in the trash.

Too aggressive? Not sure Mitch watched tape of first 3 games. That zone d they trot out is far from aggressive. Not sure how (still) playing 12 yards off isnt considered soft serve by Mitch. And Wesley. Dont care if Mitch tears them up if the Bucs win. Eating W’s makes the bad not seem so.

4th straightgame as the underdog. This is the week the D comes together. Grimes should have his legs under him now. Rookies have been burned by better receivers and should have some perspective on their errors.
Look for big pressure from the Dline this week. 3-4 sacks on Trubisky.

Wow you don’t figure ……….I mean this is groundbreaking!!!
So I get it now……When you score over thirty a game you force the other team to go for bigger plays leading to more yards/points allowed.
We may need to do more research to see if those numbers climb any higher if you are playing future HoF QBs like the Bucs just have.
September 29th, 2018 at 1:25 pm
Trubisky does have a point though. Quick scores, D gets limited rest, then has to be on the field for sustained long drives.
Bad recipe come the 4th quarter. But F it. Score when you can as fast as you can.

Darin…….Pay attention to see if Smitty gives Mitch some soft serve to play with.
Something tells me that when M.Smith looks at the Bears roster he isn’t going to be very scared of their WRs like he was against Steelers or Saints.
He may just try to have his defense play more aggressive and let the Dline show us what their worth.

Joe why havent you done a story on how bad brent grimes looked!?!?

“The yards they are giving up are because of the shootouts they have been in,” Trubisky said. “Because they have put up so many points, opponents have been forced to be aggressive and they are throwing from behind.”
———————————————————————————————————————
But this had nothing to do with the Bucs’ passing yards in past seasons, since we were always so far ahead. Right?

Mitch isn’t near as skilled as Brees, Foles & Ben……
Their WRs are not that good……we need to put some pressure on him and we should be getting multiple pics.
We absolutely, positively must not turn the ball over to this team…..make them earn every single point and we will win.
September 29th, 2018 at 1:59 pm
So I just gave a little look at the Bears stats and it says Jordan Howard has yet to rush for a hun and is getting about 3 ypc.
Meanwhile Mitch has thrown 3 picks in as many games while throwing for 2 scores. His is averaging onder 200 yards per games and been sacked a whooping 9 times.
I’ve watched Chicago a little bit and they got a nice little team but get me a break Bucs. We have been building our team for years now……..Either this offense is legit or not.
There is no reason to not get a lead on this team and once we do there should be no reason to look back. the only reason we should lose this game as if we be ourselves like we did last week.

That was supposed to read beat but the typo still sounds accurate
September 29th, 2018 at 2:06 pm
I’d love to know what tape he is looking at, cuz personally I’ve never thought our secondary looked “aggressive”.
I have seem them go for some picks… pretty sure they whiffed on 1 or 2 against the Steelers.

Grain of salt.
Trubisky ain’t some seasoned vet….

As someone who played QB in high school, i see the opposite. The schemes are predictable. Theres so much cushion. No disruption of routes. Qbs go underneath and those plays end up getting YAC due to poor tackling and poor angles (see Conte and Grimes vs Pitt). Theres more to it than that, but i watching the TV calling out coverages and where the open man will be. If I can do it, so can an NFL QB
September 29th, 2018 at 3:27 pm
If we can disguise zone by giving press looks and bring a safety off the edge on passing downs we can get some forced throws. We also need to spy on some second downs as Trubisky can bootleg. Would luv for Curry to rag doll him early because he’s young and may not recover. Lastly on key plays we need to watch their rbs running flats and wheels. The key is to make adjustments in game(down/distance/hash/personnel). On offense, it is about the line. Need a clean pocket. Can use 2 TE sets to help. We can win this game. Go Bucs!
September 29th, 2018 at 3:37 pm
This just she’s how new Mitch is to the league and how little he knows about the bucs…He will throw for bug numbers tomorrow
September 29th, 2018 at 3:55 pm
JOE,
If Mitch dives up the Bucs’ secondary tommorow, can you do Bucs Nation a favor and publicly call for Mike Smith to be fired? I get that Brees and Big Ben did it to us, but it simply cannot be allowed to continue against second rate QBs.

September 29th, 2018 at 4:02 pm
Because he didn’t. Had position to make some plays. JT sure why he didn’t other than he might still be hobbled or rusty.
September 29th, 2018 at 4:15 pm
Grimes will get one, not what he used to be but Trubisky won’t have enough understanding of how good he is while looking beat on a play .
September 29th, 2018 at 4:42 pm
Ryan….you , WE already know whats going to happen. He’s going to torch us and Mke smith will continue doing his dumbfounded repetitive excuse press conferences for the rest of the year. He will get the entire staff wiped out and be the cause of a complete rebuild and waste of talent.
September 29th, 2018 at 5:13 pm
the way the nfl is going secondarys now have to play this way offenses are to good now. look at the vikings the best against the pass last year and now they trash its so difficult to be good in the pass defence now without a rush.
September 29th, 2018 at 5:36 pm
Bucs played a bad game against Steelers – dropped passes, fumbles, safety “kicked out of the club”, punt return called back, pick six…and still almost beat Steelers
If Bucs execute and minimize mistakes, they kick Chicago’s arse!
September 29th, 2018 at 5:43 pm
mitch blofitzsky really sucks
September 29th, 2018 at 7:10 pm
Alan all that is true and that’s without mentioning the missed tackling that lost us the game IMO.
Two of the missed tackles resulted in TDs.

ADAM FROM NY
I just loled! I agree!
September 29th, 2018 at 8:50 pm
This game should tell us whether the Bucs are contenders or pretenders. Win, go 3-1 at the BYE and we are in it. Lose, go 2-2 and fight an uphill battle since the NFC is loaded. Also the Bears are 2-1 so it’s a conference and pivotal head to head game.

If this qb has a 23-28 300 plus yard games someone has to lose their job !!! Especially with bye week
