Koetter On Chris Godwin: “A Couple Of Snafus”

“Sorry, Fitz.”
Joe heard Dirk Koetter’s chatter yesterday about Chris Godwin and instantly thought it offered insight into how well the head coach evaluates Ryan Fitzpatrick as the captain of the Tampa Bay offense, as Koetter likes to call it.
“I think Chris can play even better. You know, he had a couple of snafus there in the Steelers game, plays I know he can make on a consistent basis,” Koetter said on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
You saw it; Joe saw it. Chris Godwin failed to squeeze a Fitzpatrick touchdown pass against the Steelers and coughed up a costly fumble, his second fumble of the young season. However, Godwin flashed his No. 1 receiver skills and he skied to haul in his third TD of the year.
As ex-Bucs receiver Michael Clayton predicted, Godwin would crumble a little bit in the spotlight of Monday night. (Clayton definitely knows about losing focus.)
Regardless, Godwin is a major playmaker for the Bucs and Joe is very confident Godwin will learn from the experience quickly.
The Bucs talent at receiver/tight end is just so darn extraordinary. Jason Licht gets all the credit for cobbling together this bunch. They’re all his guys — two first-round picks, two undrafted free agents, a third-round pick and a big-money free agent.

johnnybuc don’t confuse young with bad. By the end of the year if this offense can keep us in the race these kids could be very good.

PS anyone that has watched Justin Evans or Carlton Davis and thinks they are bad needs to watch a little closer.

NDog: Totally agree. I’be been impressed with Davis and Stewart as rookies thus far and Evans is a player.
As for Godwin,he played a big part in the loss on Monday. Bucs were the better team but can’t afford 4 first half turnovers including a pick 6. Godwin catches the TD or doesn’t fumble and they win. Simple as that. This kid is a talent though so hoping he makes up for it in many ways as the season progresses.

Godwin will be fine.
The youth at DB is exciting and they seem to be improving with every snap.
As always…… we need pressure on the QB from our DL.

Godwin fumbled during the course of the game to lose it. Humphries lost the Buffalo game at the finish which stung more and that is his only career fumble. He has been here longer than Godwin and Howard who seems to have a bobble problem sometimes. Still love em all. Go Bucs!!!

Hire a young innovative HC/OC, one of the best, if not THE best DC in football, and sign top flight talent all around.
They look incredible. 2016 they were terrible. Put the right people in the right positions and watch out!

Pretty sure it was a fumble and two drops in the end zone. He was the difference in winning and losing.
However , Godwin is becoming one of my favorite players. To have 3 number one receivers if filthy.

Fitzpatrick could have easily had 6 or 7 TD passes. Godwin drops two and Humphries slips on his route at the goal line.
Difference in the game was the o-line folding under Pittsburgh’s blitz.
This should be Dotson’s last year and Evan Smith has no business in there.

I guess this is how we choose to suck in the red zone. We made bad plays, but how can Monken have probably the best jump ball WR in the league and you don’t throw him even one fade route?! Not one?! Monken chose to suck in red zone Monday. He can blame the players all he wants, but you’ve got to use your best red zone weapon, Mike Evans. It’s not that hard, don’t overthink it.

And then they’ll say, “well, other teams know we throw the fade to ME, so we have to trick them”. No. When Michael Jordan got the ball in the post, everyone, even people who never watched basketball, knew that Jordan was going to shoot the fadeaway. Phil Jackson didn’t try to trick anyone. They knew he was going to shoot it and they still could stop it. Why? Because he’s Michael friggin Jordan. We have Michael friggin Evans! Let him do what he does best and let him out jump and out muscle smaller DBs for the touchdown!

He was throwing some wobbly ducks all night and got lucky more of them were not picked off. I don’t blame him for the tipped ball, but Fitz looked rattled compared to games 1 and 2.

The first fumble was impossible to correct….it was a perfect circumstance with the defenders helmet cleanly hitting the ball….the drop that hit him in the hands was all on him

they did choke a bit in the first half…all spotlight was once again on the bucs and they didn’t handle it too well…they settled down in the second half…and will be cool like abdul in chicago…stay under the radar guys and keep whoopin azz!
