Win Over Eagles A Good Omen?
September 18th, 2018It was both cool and stunning how the Bucs, with a backup quarterback and a beat-up secondary, were able to take down the defending Super Bowl champions Sunday.
And if franchise history is a barometer, the Bucs could be in for a very special season this fall.
Per multimedia maven Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com, Sunday’s win was the fifth time the Bucs defeated the reigning Super Bowl champs. And in the four previous seasons, the Bucs had memorable winning years.
* In 1999 the Bucs beat the Super Bowl-winning Broncos. That season the Bucs advanced to the NFC championship game.
* In 2000, the Bucs beat the Super Bowl-winning Rams. The Bucs advanced to the wild card.
* In 2001, the Bucs beat the Super Bowl-winning Crows. The Bucs advanced to the wild card.
* In 2010, the Bucs beat the Super Bowl-winning Saints. The Bucs finished with 10 wins.
What lies ahead in this season’s future?

What lies ahead in this season’s future?

#TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

Winning is contagious and great for overall confidence of the roster and coaches….now a bit of a running game
September 18th, 2018 at 9:07 am
The Bucs are enjoying something special. You gotta keep it comin!! I am a Jameis fan, but you can’t change the recipe while everything is cooking. Let Jameis get in the locker room and sit a game while Fitz plays, get the vibe and see what he has been missing out on. Maybe he can become a better person through all this.
Kudos to DJax, that kid has turned around a thug life into a special thing. His ties with gangstas has been well documented and he has become a shining light in this crazy world. It’s guys like him that make a change, it takes time….. Go Bucs!!

The D showed improvement over game 1, despite all the injuries to the DBs. Have to (this time) give some credit to the D coaches for this happening. Good experience for the inexperienced ones back there. Now, when Grimes comes back, and maybe V shows up, the overall D won’t be so bad. The O can’t carry us every game, can they? Pretty good looking team.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:17 am
In 8 more wins, the current regime would have TRIPLED incompetent loser lovie’s win total!!!!!!!!!! And 12 more wins will tie talk show dominik’s 5 year total!!!!!!!!!!!
GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 18th, 2018 at 9:20 am
It was both cool and stunning how the Bucs, with a backup quarterback…
Joe – you spelled MVP candidate wrong. It’s not spelled like backup.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:33 am
History tends to repeat itself, or not.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:33 am
I think the coaches have to listen to the players and feedback from the locker room. Jackson is a vet, he came out earlier this year hinting that Winston needed to just play and stop trying to impress people. I’ve said this from Day 1….Rah Rah speeches are great in college, at the pro level everyone is trying to get paid and everyone has an ego. Guys like McCoy, Jackson, David, Grimes….they’ve been around for a reason. They don’t need motivation from a rookie, they need production and Winston obviously doesn’t generate this kind of confidence from his peers. Wentz comes back no matter how Foles is playing or that he was SB MVP….Wentz is the starter without a doubt.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:44 am
@Bobby – not to mention DJax has been through QB situations in both Philly with McNabb to Vick and Vick to Foles then in Washington with RGIII and Cousins.
The coaching staff should tap his experience in this and how it played in the locker room.

What lies ahead in this season’s future?
A great storyline of a team coming together and enjoying the game coupled with a portion of the fanbase melting down because their beloved leader has had opportunity snatched from his beloved buttery fingertips.
Stay tuned.

Fastest way to jinx the season IMO is for these coaches & players (and fans) to start looking PAST the next game. Enjoy the ride while the train’s still on the tracks. Hopefully we’ve got enough depth to not let anything derail us this year.
NJBucsFan … “Joe – you spelled MVP candidate wrong. It’s not spelled like backup.” And to think, when Fitz almost brought us back in the Arizona game last year and then later on went 2-1 as a starter, so many poor-mouthed him saying that he only beat the weak teams. Just think what last year’s record MIGHT have been IF Jameis had to sit out as soon as he injured his shoulder early in the season instead of ‘toughing it out’ through several games … while we lost all of them with Fitz sitting on the bench looking on. Maybe Fitz was a LOT better than JBFers and others gave him credit for at the time. And maybe Jameis should’ve told the coaches he was hurting instead of putting himself in front of the TEAM. Ya think? And even after he was ‘healed’ some brag about how many yards HE put up in the last 5 games, but forget to mention that we lost 4 out of 5 to end the season. Those same ones conveniently blame the defense for every loss, but forget to note that Jameis averaged close to 3 turnovers a game in that stretch. And yes, offensive turnovers are the Kiss of Death as we’ve seen, and they penalize the defense more than the offense.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:56 am
What lies ahead in the Bucs future is a desperate Steelers team that has disgruntlement building in the locker room, who will bring exotic never before seen blitzes to the Bucs to pressure Fitz like he hasn’t seen so far this season, and they will challenge our young and depleted secondary with AB all night. I hopw Smith plans on doubling AB all night, otherwise it’ll be like watching Julio Jones light up the Bucs last year for 784 yards and 8 touchdowns or whatever it was.
September 18th, 2018 at 9:58 am
And unlike in 2000 and 2001, we’ve already beaten the Iggles to get that monkey off our backs!
Week Three is going to be memorable. The blue collar days of The Steel Curtain and Smashmouth BucBall age gone. In the Den of Oppression, we will continue to expose the Steelers’ Laced Drapes defense!
September 18th, 2018 at 10:01 am
Only 2 games but the fitz press conference led to the feeling of this may be a special season as it seems alot of teams aside from the death star pats have some type of closeness and bonding and through this early season it seems like fitz is that glue…this team has a ton of deficiencies like a bottom 5 defense and a lousy kicker which are 2 major ingredients to make a deep playoff run, but as joe says alot the team reminds him of the old air coryell san diego chargers and those teams were super fun to watch
September 18th, 2018 at 10:11 am
@Defense Rules
many fans put their opinions before team. It is unfortunate that some cannot just enjoy the ride. If you want Fitz to succeed, you’re a Winston hater and have to hear about stats and career history of Fitz that people just googled. it’s a team sport and the team will follow the leader that they feel will get them to the promise land. At this present moment, it appears to be Fitz. They are responding to him well and having fun. You didn’t see a positive response to Winston last year. All you have to do is look at the faces of the team when Winston wanted everyone to eat W’s.
September 18th, 2018 at 10:18 am
Interesting perspective…
So I’m sitting in a little hole in the wall diner in Hayesville, NC this morning.
Right behind me the people in the booth are going back and forth with the waitress. The waitress says ” I don’t know, that Winston might be a good player, but he’s got so much stuff in his past. That Fitzpatrick is red hot, why would Winston play?”
Maybe she’s a former Floridian like me or just a really big NFL fan. All I know is
even in a tiny little town of 500 people, far removed from The Bucs, Fitzmagic is alive and well.
September 18th, 2018 at 10:19 am
This just shows how important it is to have an experienced and talented backup QB, especially when your alleged starter is an idiotic clown.
Also have to remember that the current Superbowl MVP is also a backup QB, as was Doug Williams when he won with the Redskins
September 18th, 2018 at 10:23 am
even more remarkable, it took the bucs 23 years to beat a defending super bowl champ, and this was only their second time in the last 17 years
September 18th, 2018 at 10:33 am
the bucs now have a winning qb that all the buc fans can be proud of!!
September 18th, 2018 at 10:35 am
Trade JW now. We are loosing our leverage in the deal with every game we win worth Fitzpatrick
September 18th, 2018 at 10:36 am
@Defense Rules. i love what fitz is doing and this is a special stretch of football for this team, but you are downplaying so many other crucial changes in this team in assuming fitz could have played at remotely close to this level last year.
*our most impressive pass catchers (DJax, OJ, God) are all in year 2 with this system and QB group
*Todd Monken
*Upgrades across the Interior OL
*a defense that will not finish dead last
*a hint of play action threat. also, no doug “drive killer” martin
*burned by last year’s misplaced swagger and crappy practice habits
*have done just enough in the 4th quarter to hold leads they blew last year
this is a totally different year and a totally different team. Based on the end of last year and preseason, I strongly feel Jameis could have most of the same plays and then some and this could’ve been his moment to wave his college narratives goodbye….but instead he made bad choices, put himself on the outside of the team’s great story to start the year, and thank goodness fitz is doing what he’s doing. Jameis’ career will be defined by what he makes of his upcoming stint as a backup and how he plays when Fitzmagic finally wears off
September 18th, 2018 at 10:53 am
The Bucs have the talent to win all our games this year right now and we will be getting back Vea, Grimes, and Beckwith to bolster this team. Importantly, we have added four players who know what it takes to make it to the Super Bowl, and they will help us to get there; then our trolls can go on other websites and belittle the so-called experts who thought we would only win three cases all year. Ha! We really need to sign Licht to a long term contract and sign both Fitz and Jameis to long term contracts as well as a raise for Monken. Next year Licht will need to make sure we keep our talented players and find us more sackers and other Linemen for both sides of the ball.
September 18th, 2018 at 10:53 am
JW’s record as the starter: 18-27
Fitzpatrick’s record as a starter: 4-1
Who would you start????????
September 18th, 2018 at 11:27 am
Godeep,
LMAO! I have said it many times already. I love what the Bearded Dragon is doing and want it to continue just as much as anyone else. Please, keep your stupid comments to yourself when you go to show numbers. You are a moron for even trying to sell some dumb crap like that. The bottom line is, none of us are the ones that make the call and you are the perfect reason why I’m glad you aren’t. With your way of thinking, we probably would have hired Chucky and asked schiano to come back. That is how much sense you make.
September 18th, 2018 at 11:35 am
Godeep….only some of us cherry-pick W-L totals as to who’s the better QB…
If you’d like I can search around the NFL to find you similar W-L totals from one QB to the other. I can prolly find former pro bowlers with higher wiinning %’s sitting on the bench for their teams.
Why? Cause it’s a team game…and this team is stacked on O. Most (“real fans” as Realist likes to say) can see that, and see a much more improved playcalling.
You should just go back to uber jokes…even though those were horrible takes too. Your credibility is garbage after all those…agenda-driven, but go ahead and give us your takes on QB skill and what not anyways….you’ll NEVER say he’s any good.
With that being said…I don’t see the O letting up anytime soon with Fitz or Jameis behind center. I can see the Bucs beating the Steelers….no problem.
@Rod Munch…Jameis owns Godeep!
September 18th, 2018 at 11:50 am
@1987: what happed to poor Jaboo boo last year with the same weapons??? He is not smart enough to run a NFL football team. Just because he can throw the ball 70 yards does not make him a good QB. He is also not poised enough to run a offense at the NFL level.
September 18th, 2018 at 11:50 am
Newsworthy: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did pick up JW‘s 2019 option at $20.5 million. Although, it is only guaranteed if he is injured! Look for the Buccaneers to not have him play a game this year and then cut him at the end of the year and not have to pay him a dime!!!!! Now you may get a better understanding on why he got rid of his agent. I guess Jason Licht is not as dumb as we will thought he was.
September 18th, 2018 at 11:53 am
@bucWoman: I am so very sorry to hurt your precious tender feelings snowflake. Now get back to your CNN and rice crispy treats. I will forget more than you’ll ever know about football and being part of a team. Where will we find you and JW for dinner tonight? May I suggest Rocco‘s tacos at international Plaza? Taco Tuesday all you can eat, they may even make some special crab legs tacos for you guys
September 18th, 2018 at 12:25 pm
LMAO! Godeep,
Funny you made that name for yourself…. You must have aspirations to one day be able to finally be at a level to reach farther than 2 inches. I am not offended at all nor do I have tender feelings. I have had a great life in the military for 20+ years and have seen some major morons so I know exactly how to deal with you. The only team you are probably familiar with is the one that dresses up in womens lingerie on the weekends but is too scared to let it be known that they enjoy playing the position of catcher than pitcher. While I am not in Tampa (will be when I retire soon) because someone must protect this country, (yes, even idiots like yourself) if I was I would gladly meet up with you anywhere you would like to talk about this face to face.
September 18th, 2018 at 12:28 pm
@ Godeeper Daddy
From your predictions that we will draft Will Grier, all the way to your 4 win prediction for the Bucs this season, everything you say is perfectly worthless!!

Sounds like MD got into the liquor cabinet prior to this interview. I’m still trying to see how we can win 4 games this year.
September 18th, 2018 at 12:58 pm
@bucwoman (aka Chelsea Manning):I do apologize if I hurt your tender snowflake feelings. Your offer to meet up is bizarre to say the least. Plus, my parents raised me to never hit a woman. I am also sorry that you were not intelligent enough to get into a college so it enforced you to enlist. JW would have probably down the same route if we could not throw a football.
September 18th, 2018 at 1:14 pm
? Not Deep enough,
Do you read what you write or is it being translated since you are under the desk and the object in your mouth continues to screw up your speech? Asking for a friend.
September 18th, 2018 at 2:01 pm
Godeep…
I really try to ignore you…but I take it personally when you try to say Jameis lack the intelligence to play QB.
However you are so smart with your Racist arse…that is why Jameis has and is worth🤑 millions and a family that loves him! While you on the other hand can only TRUMP UP racist remarks! If anyone is ignorant it is you one of the most despised posters on JBF.
I know you will take it as a compliment, but you are a real S.O.B🤐
You probably get off because you get attention when you be what you hide behind 👻
September 18th, 2018 at 2:21 pm
Since I only come to Florida for football season, I hope the Bucs win enough games to have home field for playoffs! It is way too cold in Illinois in January.

@nolebuc: I am a man of color and cannot be a racist since I like Fitzpatrick. Now pack your rainbow 🌈 back pack with me too t shirts and try to sell them on the street, try on Dale Mabry first. I am quite surprised that you have not changed your user name on this site.
