My oh my, how some people go from the gutter to the penthouse in less than four hours.
Why, just last week Mike Florio-arguing, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, social activist star of NBC Sports fame claimed winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was fortunate to have a job in the NFL given how he played second banana to Chucky’s whims.
Now this morning, King decided to knight Koetter with King’s prestigious “Coach of the Week” honor after Koetter’s troops, behind anaging backup quarterback, went all Dan Fouts on the defending NFC South champs yesterday.
The Bucs, with a backup quarterback and still wondering whatever will happen to their suspended starter, walked into New Orleans and put up 48 on the Saints. Koetter was in job jeopardy after the Bucs’ 5-11 season last year. He’s significantly more secure this morning.
So just like that, in King’s eyes, just one game, Koetter went from being fortunate to still be working for Team Glazer, to already announce he’s back for 2019?
You cannot make this stuff up folks. LOL

It seems more like the NFL analyst do “make it up”!!!!!!!!!!! To the “real” fans it was not so far a jump, because they never saw the coaches in the “gutter” to begin with!!!!!!!! I guess it starts with good evaluation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#trust the coaches!!!!!!!! Fix the “real” problem!!!!!!!!!!! the roster!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda fits with the whole “godfather” theme from last years training camp before the wheels came off the bus in game 2 and all that Koetter praise from the previous year’s results and offseason was dropped faster than a burning bag of poop…

If the Glazer keep Koetter, they should demand for him to replace Mike Smith. We have enough talent on the Defense to be good, therefore, it baffles me to see us suck so much on D this weekend.
Being only one game into the season, hopefully Smith will see the need to change his game planning. If he would play his DBs closer to the line and let them be physical then I think the Defense would thrive. I heard him saying a year ago by playing softer or off the receiver it give the Defense a better chance to create turn overs and stopping the big plays. Well this did not work last year nor did it work this past weekend.

It was a fun game, no doubt. The defense better tighten up and this team better be in the playoff hunt if Koetter wants to keep his job.

I still think the defense gets figured out. Saints are almost ALWAYS outstanding at home offensively. Throw in we were missing Grimes but HGIII throughout the game as well… We were in the second half starting 2 rookie corners and fan favorite Ryan Smith. I am not saying top 10 defense but it will start doing enough to contribute to wins.

I would agree every bit with the Fouts references except Fouts was a complete statue in the pocket. He was among the most immobile QBs in history. He had a negative yards per carry average in four of his last six seasons. Dan wasn’t keeping any defenses honest with his feet. Fitzpatrick has always been mobile. He ran for nearly 1500 yards during his college career and used his feet early and often when he first came into the NFL. Like Fouts, FItzpatrick doesn’t have the strongest arm but if he can continue to be accurate and make good decisions with the football, he should continue to have Fouts-like success.

Well, if you can think of another heavily-bearded quarterback that ran an offense for Don Coryell and regularly put up 300+ yards a game, Joe is all ears.

Koetter does deserve some credit; he recognized how weak he was as an offensive coordinator and head coach so he gave up his coordinator duties. He didn’t let his ego get in the way of saving his ass. Now if he could just get Licht to demote Mike Smith he could really help preserve his future as head coach.

Keep the Fouts references coming…they fit perfectly into what your trying to express.
The only thing I paid close attention to AFTER the game was the coaches handshake. Did anyone notice the post handshake and turn that Payton did a hard backslap to Koetter? The slap was hard enough that Koetter turned around again. I had to watch it twice. You can tell there was some tension for sure.
Two coaches who really hate each other. Love it.

The D played well enough to win- once you stop laughing at me for saying that you’ll realize that we’re a missed FG away from a total blow out and a very good 2nd half performance. Instead, Brees gets a short field, plenty of clock and a two score game against a barren secondary and gassed DL. The most important play of the latter part of the game (aside from the Fitzscramble) was the NO timeout on the 2 pt conversion. I’m not sure if that was a clock thing or a formation thing, but man, that ended up making a HUGE difference.

Thanks. Fitz really reminded Joe of Dan Fouts yesterday. Guess some want Joe to refer to Fitz’s game as Joe Montana-like or Steve Young-like or John Elway-like when he looked nothing like those quarterbacks.
Looked just like the old Chargers where you had wide receivers and tight ends coming out of the woodwork to make plays and score touchdowns.

You are correct Frank. The defense played well enough to win. But I want to see them control a game. I want to see the Bucs dominate on both sides of the ball. Yesterdays offense and the 2002 defense. Is that too much to ask? Lol

We forced 2 punts and 2 turnovers… and the Saints scored 8 points less than we did. Our defense was better than theirs. We only had to punt once and no turnovers.

Dirk’s finest hour was when he turned over reins to someone else. Not really all that great of a compliment to Dirk, but hey, if he can win this way, if he does bring something to the table as the HC, then great.

Before the game, Derrick Brooks predicted that most NFL defenses would take a few games to get up and running because of the limitations placed on their practices during training camp.
Outside of a few individual players, he was right on the money.
It is too soon to make heads roll.
Brees is one of, if not the hardest, QB for defenses to deal with. He’s almost impossible to sack, he gets his passes off quickly, and he is deadly accurate.
All things considered, our defense was not great, but they did keep us the lead long enough to win the game. That is a huge change over last year, because they lost us games instead.
