Lando, Kwon is doing more than struggling … he looked terrible on every play on that drive. LVD didn’t look much better. DLine held their own it looked like, but zero pressure on Brees. Can’t blame the Secondary for that TD … it was all on the DLine & LBs.

Kamara is a special talent with special quickness, he’s basically a WR out there, asking a LB to cover him one on one in pass coverage is a recipe for disaster. You have to gameplan for that, and clearly Mike Smith did not.

The refs called the play down, the Bucs stopped playing, he’s not getting a TD there if the refs don’t say the play is over. In any case ALWAYS at least touch a guy down, never don’t do that. You don’t need to slap them in the head to get a PF call, just tap them to make sure. Basic 101 stuff that Mike Smith had better be all over them on.

On that TD that was given up you had a switch with Ryan Smith supposed to take the guy inside, instead the moron literally takes one step then stops and points at the guy who catches the TD where Smith should have been. Meanwhile, Conte gives zero help underneath. That’s what I saw on that play, a typical clueless Ryan Smith just standing around with no one around him looking completely lost. Happens at least 4 times a game. Earlier in that series he fails to use the sideline to get Karama out of bounds and instead gets juked to the sideline and Karama blows past him for like 20 yards. Ryan Smith is garbage and shouldn’t be in there.

Defense Rules – The Bucs can not stop the Saints and need every point they can get. Also, last year, the Bucs were sort of in this same situation at the end of the game and the Bucs got a TD out of it. If the Bucs come out in the 2nd, don’t score on the opening drive, they will then give up a TD and all of this is for not.
You play to win the game, not to not lose the game. In a game, on the road, no one expects you to win, you’re up by 14 with 2 mins in the half, you give a up huge TD, you don’t sit on the ball if you have any chance at all to get try to get points. You can’t.
Hoping for the best, but you will have to outscore the Saints, which means you don’t leave anything on the table and you don’t do the boring predictable coaching chart garbage.
We shall see when the game is over if this costs them.

Just looked at the halftime stats. Fitz is 11-for-14 for 210 yards. Wow. And he’s doing a great job of spreading the ball around. Peyton Barber has 8 carries for 50 yards … nice average. BTW, he looks like he’s running MUCH better to the left than to the right.

You guys realize we are playing how many new players on defense, remember communication is the key and likely one of the best offenses in the league. Would love to stop them from scoring, but the offense doing their job. Yeah bad call on the PI’s with Brate and Hump, good call on D. Smith, all he needed to do was use his body. As far as the defense, Saints scored 17 points when he was not out there, he is a good tackler, but Kamara can make the best look bad. The Thomas touchdown, definitely miscommunication. Gotta bring Brees down we hen we get there.

Defense Rules – We had this same conversation last year in the Atlanta game at home on a 4th and 3 from the 37 when Dirk punted the ball, and you said it’s the safe thing to do, and I said if they punt the ball they’ll give up a TD right away – which is exactly what happened. You can’t coach scared in games you’re not supposed to win. I know the traditional coach thinking you have, and if you’re the better team that’s fine and dandy, but if you’re a huge underdog who can’t stop the other team, you need to always try to get points and throw the coaching manual in the trash.
Again, I understand the thinking, and if the defense was playing well I’d agree -but they’re not. This is a shootout, and in a shootout you don’t just give up a possession without even trying.
With that said I really really hope I’m wrong and the Bucs make me look stupid for worrying about it.

Defense Rules – Fitz’s problem his entire career has been performing when he doesn’t have perfect dome like conditions. Hopefully he gets good weather the next two weeks. Anywho Fitz had a career day, literally the best day by a Bucs QB ever, if you think Fitz will do this every week, you’re nuts. If he does, well he’s a HOFer and you play him until his beard falls off.
Anyways, as I said, Winston playing in this offense will be amazing.

Me saying I can’t wait to see JW in this offense isn’t an indictment on Fitz, he played fantastic today, and no JW wouldn’t have been better. Those are two unrelated pointed. If Fitz can do this outdoors, you play him until he can’t do it, no issues there. But I want to see JW in this offense where every 2nd down isn’t 2nd and 9 after a 1 yard run up the gut for the entire first half. Just mixing things up and not being ultra predictable will be huge for everyone.
Also if you’re worried about Jameis being aggressive… did you watch the game today? When your defense is this bad, you have to play aggressive, and Fitz was really agressive today.

Rod…how many interceptions did Fitz have? That meant the difference between success and failure. And hard to believe Jameis wouldn’t have thrown at least one. Not saying Jameis won’t be great…but can’t take anything from Fitz on this one.

Steve DeBerg had 333 yards and 5 TDs against the Falcons on opening day in 1987, did he suddenly become a HOF’er overnight after a career of some success but a lot of sitting on the bench? You guys need to have a little something called perspective. Fitz had a great day and it’s just about assured he’ll never ever have a game this good again, if he does, well then great, you play him until his arm literally falls off his body. But if you think this is the new bar for week in and week out play, you’re truly a moron.

Come on Rod…one game at a time. Fitz did everything required to win this game. And frankly, until the D steps up. every game is likely to be a barn burner. Can he have another game like this? Who are you or me to say he can’t? I won’t bet on it…but you ride the hot hand. And frankly, I’ll take it. Could Jameis have won this game today based upon the play of the Defense? Frankly, I doubt it.

Would Jameis, on a normal week, beat the best QB performance in the history of the team and the best performance in the life of Fitz. LOL!
In fact 99 out 100 times Fitz doesn’t play as well as Fitz did today.
But he had a great game and I AGREE with you, you play Fitz if he stays how, there’s no reason why. But he won’t stay hot for 16 games, and as such I can’t wait to see Winston in this offense. It’s a basic concept.
Oh, and if I’m wrong, if Fitz is going out, hitting nearly every single play and not misfiring, and has time, and is running to get first down, and his WRs are getting wide open, and he can do that for most of the year, then amazing, I’ll be more than happy to be wrong when I said Fitz can’t have a new career day every week. I in fact would love that to be the case, would love it.

Frankly, I don’t expect Fitz to pay that well. But he has had some good games on some really bad offensive teams. This team has some real offensive weapons….and really… could Jameis have hit D. Jackson like Fitz did today? I doubt it, but hope we see that when he comes back and starts.

mark2001 – Winston played like 3 games with D-Jax before he hurt his shoulder, and in those 3 games he hit D-Jax for at least one longer TD in the Vikings game when he put it in the perfect place. Stop with your revisionist history nonsense. Fitz has been a good QB at times, and then he chokes when it matters, he also has a career of playing well in good weather, and in domes, and then his noodle arm comes into play when the weather turns bad. The guy had a great day he’ll never repeat, he might have some more good days, and I hope he has at least 2 more very good days over the next 2 weeks, and as I said if he can keep it up, you play him until he doesn’t play well. It will be fun to see what he does next week and if he can do it outside, which is a real concern. I really really hope so since I’ve had the Bucs beating the Eagles all offseason and people thought it was nuts – and that wasn’t to do with Wentz, it was to do with history and the Bucs always playing well. So I hope they get it done since then worse case they’re 2-2 going into the bye, which would be huge.

@Rod……….I enjoy most of your takes football wise, however I think you are acting somewhat butthurt here. Fitz has Never had this type of Receiving corps combined with having the entire off season getting pirst team reps.
He COMPLETELY balled out today. Jameis couldn’t have played that well and never has so far in his career. I am a Staunch JW3 supporter. That said Fitz was the MAN today and if he continues to play the way he did today we have a Very good Problem on our hands.

SB – I don’t disagree with you at all actually, not sure where the disconnect is here. Fitz was fantastic today, not sure why that’s not getting through, my issue is with people that used a historic day to bash Winston. No, Winston most likely would not have had this good of a day, which is true of 99.9% of QBs ever in history, thus the historic performance element. Using this as a bar to judge people by makes no sense since it’s not repeatable, and if I’m wrong, if Fitz has 1500 yards and 15 TDs and 0 turnovers after week 3, well Jesus H Christ, he’s had one of the best stretches at QB in the history of the game. Hope it happens, but we need to be realistic. In any case I’m excited to see what this offense will do next week.

Well, I haven’t read any of the comments on the thread today Rod. My bad if I kind of singled you out while catching the end of a 500+ comment thread. If people are bashing JW because Fitz kicked as s then they are idiots. JW was Lights Out in the preseason for sure.
Today mostly showed how talented the “TEAM” is. When JW comes back, if he doesn’t take us to the playoffs…………….Then I will be concerned.

Brett Favre? You’re comparing JW to Brett Favre! C’mon man! First off, Favre won exactly 1 SB and killed so many chances to advance because of his gun slinging ways (Minny vs Taints).
Secondly, I would rather have a QB (Fitz) who can be aggressive with proper mechanics than someone who thinks he can fall back, spin, and throw off-balance into double and triple coverage. That’s not being aggressive, that’s being arrogant and willfully negligent. You leave winning to chance that way. Fitz took this victory decidedly with good decision making and talent.
I hope JW learns something while riding the pine. But, we have a need to win now going forward after seeing this type of performance from Fitzy.
You have to be the only fan, after a surprise victory, to be day dreaming about JW. Stop the nonsense.
