Some Good News From Injury Report

September 6th, 2018

Injury updates.

There was some good news, depressing news and expected news coming from the Bucs’ injury report today.

Joe will save the best for last.

The depressing news is that defensive tackle Vita Vea still cannot get on the practice field with this mysterious calf injury. Even if he could get on the field, how much of an impact could he have since he hasn’t practiced since July?

The expected news is that Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith was limited in practice today. Smith has a strained right knee.

The good news is that offensive lineman Evan Smith was a full participant in practice this afternoon despite being hobbled with a hip injury.

I’m surprised that we have such few injuries. Sure, Charles Smith is out for the year and I think a few lower tier guys were waived injured, but we’ve been relatively unscathed. I wonder what other teams injury reports look like right now.

  2. Wausa Says:

Unrein is not on the report because he is on IR, so even though the Bucs are relatively healthy they have two injured players the team was counting on at the DT position.

Another bad projection from NFL Network Analytics Expert Cynthia Frelund… Ceiling 4.7, Floor 2.5 wins.

    Joe,

Are we aware of what the Saints had on their injury report?

  6. SOEbuc Says:

    @Joe

    MJ, C.Davis, J.Evans fully participated???

    @Wausa

I think Gholston looked damn good in Week 3 at DT. Everyone was saying he was on the bubble and then he had a great game. He got a sack and was getting to the QB fast. And he can stop the run and convert to DE.

  8. richbucsfan Says:

It seems every year the Bucs hit week1 and realize they are thin at key positions.

  9. Lou. Says:

Gholston is way too light and long to handle the DT position all game long. Situational use might be ok but throwing him against 330 lb OTs will work as well as leaving N. Spence in to stop the run.

I’m not seeing any good news. Great draft pick Jason. Your first and second round draft picks will not be on the field this Sunday. You suck, actually swallow. I bet we are the only team in NFL history in which a first and second round pick did not play on opening day.

  11. Lunchbox Says:

With the Vita Vea “calf” injury, for him to be out this long, I feel like it’s got to be either a high ankle sprain, or an Achilles injury. Neither one is good news

  12. Rishi Says:

I’m starting to think our team physicians are terrible. Everything seems to be worst case with outcomes and players take FOREVER to get back to normal. This is an overlooked asset/weakness to a team. The people that keep them healthy or get them back to full strength.

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

Saints got injuries too! Get her done Bucs. No Excuses. Next man up. You roll with what you got.

  14. Radsy Says:

Grade II calf strains are a 4-6 week recovery. He doesn’t have a Grade 1 strain or he’d be back. He’s not a Grade 3 because he’s been working out in pads with a trainer. He should be back Week 2 or 3.

Could be big toe with Vita…..masquerading as “mysterious calf injury”

  16. Mike Says:

    Vita has MRSA

  17. Mike Says:

    Oy Vea

  18. Uckinator Says:

what’s mysterious is Veas injury happened the first two days of practice. Bet he was injured before. Leftover from college?

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Godeep66, what round was Carlton Davis drafted in?

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

When Vea returns to active duty, no one here will care about his time missed.

You people are acting like it is the end of the world. Dose of reality:

VITA VEA IS A BACK-UP at present. Allen is the starter! So the Bucs can afford to not rush him back.

Evan Smith is a rotation player these days, also not a starter. The important news is about Donovan Smith. He is actually a starter.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

    Bonzai

what round was M.J. Stewart drafted in?

  22. @CAeric Says:

Sims isn’t out for the year he was released and tried out today for the Texans per profootballtalk.come
