KICKOFF MOVED TO 8:59 p.m. – Cheer and groan in the comments section all throughout tonight’s preseason Week 3 “dress rehearsal” against Detroit at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.
Please stay respectful but don’t hesitate to mix it up. And come back all night long for plenty out of this game, including Ira Kaufman’s 10 Takeaways column.
So much to keep an eye on with the starters expected to play at least one half before the grad students and mattress movers take the field.

Scenarios like this are why I wish we had a dome with a retractable ceiling. Keep it open and let the sun shine in on beautiful Tampa days. And Close it when their are storms in the Area.
I’ll never forget the 2016 Rams game. It was the last possession of the 4th Quarter. We had all the momentum in the world and were steadily driving the ball down field, then… BOOM! Lightning delay. It took 15 minutes to even see a visible lightning strike, about 40 minutes later play resumed and we ended up losing the game.

Can’t play scared. We have an open air stadium and it rains in Tampa. Often.
We do not have the luxury to pass up reps for our players. The large majority of the injuries we’ve sustained are not season enders or even long term.

Soft tissue injuries occur when teams sit in lockeroom and don’t get proper time to warm up prior to kick off.
Separate issue- It was lightening heavily around the stadium at kickoff 8pm tonight. Games have NEVER been played when lightning is in the area not just for player safety also for people in attendance and stadium workers safety. This was written in response to hourse lover comment.

Can’t lead with helmet. Essentially, must have head up and see what you hit, IE not with the crown of the helmet. Haven’t heard about any changes to defenseless receiver rule.

Bonzai – My understanding is that if you lead with your head or hit someone in the head, that is where the penalty is, but who knows for sure. The Evans hit just looked like football to me – well after a BS penalty. More importantly Evans held onto the ball regardless of the hit.

This game has no flow, missing too many starters to really be useful for evaluating anything. You had on the last series 56 at DT, a guy signed 3 days ago in there. On offense Barber and Evans is already out, along with all the offensive lineman. Kind of disappointing even game 3 in the preseason has such little meaning anymore.

I don’t know about the play calling – on that second series, after running the ball right at the Lions on the first drive, they come out in shotgun on 1st down. I HATE that. You established the run, why go to shotgun? If you’re going to pass the ball surprise your opponent by a play action pass. If they’re just giving different looks because it’s preseason than great, but Dirk did that dumb stuff all last year. He’d run the ball up the gut on every single first down for the entire first half – then in the second half he’d be in shotgun on first down. It was just dumb.

Rod. None of us are trying to say that Humphries is an amazing receiver. But he is a LOT better than you are giving him credit. And while that fumble did sting, that was not the sole deciding play of that game. Considering the defense gave up a lead with 2 minutes in the 4th Quarter on like a 3 play 20 second drive.
And I can’t even begin to describe just how idiotic it is that you think that Adam Humphries ruined the 2017 season when we had the worst defense in football. As well as a bottom 3rd running game and special teams unit.
Hump is solid dude, I think he’ll eventually be replaced by a much more talented player in Justin Watson, but you’re still a salty hater.

BobbyBucs – The Bucs are not deep at LB, that’s like last offseason Joe writing an article saying how deep the Bucs were at corner. The Bucs have Kwon and David, then a huge drop off to Beckwith, assuming he’s healthy, then Bond who is serviceable, then absolutely no one that would start for any other team. I don’t think the 2nd teamers are terrible, but they aren’t NFL starters.

Joe Dirt brings great fire, but he just doesn’t have the speed, he’s worth keeping around on the practice squad to see if he can play faster as he learns the defense, but if he had to start in place of Kwon… ugh, it would be ugly. Then Glanton/Taylor/whatever their names are this year, they’re just typical backups – not awful but certainly not starters.

you can’t have #ones in every spot. teams have $ caps so you can only keep what you pay for. If our #5 LB was as good as our #1 we couldn’t afford so considering that those guys are depth and are usually paid according to their talent. You can’t expect all pros at every position at every depth

Trench – I don’t have an issue with the LB’s, I was talking about the dummy saying we should cut Kwon because we have so much depth. The Bucs don’t have a bunch of depth, they have 3 solid starters with Beckwith there, and Bond is a borderline starter who could play if need be. Behind that I don’t have a lot of faith in any of those guys starting. Nothing wrong with that, unless some dummy says to cut a pro-bowler like Kwon.

Lot of you guys make me laugh. You go from cut him to he’s great from one play to another. It’s kind of funny. I must say the talent on this team is more than we’ve had in quite some time. Now it’s about putting it together as a team for the full season. There will be ups and there will be downs. I for one won’t act like one play makes or breaks a player or the season.

The defense wasn’t terrible there, Cassel made some really nice tight throws. Then again the guy has been around forever and is playing against 2’s and 3’s.

I remember the 2012 Bucs beating the hell out of the Pats first team in week 3 of the preseason, it’s why I put basically nothing into the results of the preseason. You can kind of gauge individual players if they really stand out, but short of that, it generally doesn’t mean much.

I rather play well in preseason than not.
I remember watching Jeff Carlson light the pats up for 30 in 1st half in Jacksonville preseason game.

Stanglassman – I don’t disagree with you, it’s better to win these games than lose them – but then again in 2002 in week 3 of the preseason the Bucs lost 40-10 to the Redskins. If Twitter and this site had existed then people would have been slitting their wrists calling for Gruden to be fired before week 1 of the season.

Overall the team has looked much sharper than the last few preseasons.
I try not to put too much stock in it, but that’s what we said the last few seasons when the offense struggled all preseason. And that continued into the regular season.
So I’m optimistic about the offense. D line looks improved but I think there are still some question marks at linebacker and definitely in the secondary.

To me he Spence and Kwon are the most overrated players on out team. Spence hasnt proven anything yet and he hasnt played well in pre season not even against back ups which says alot. Pass rush specialist my ass. Probably belongs playing Lb in a 3-4 defense. Kwon is really a weakside linebacker not a Mike. Too small and not a sure tackler. That being said we don’t have one who would play better except Beckwith who is a true Mike. Beckwith has the size to play the middle and is a better tackler. Kwon is more about speed and would be better suited playing strong side until David leaves. Everything else looks pretty strong.
Seems like this organization likes to play guys at positions they don’t belong in.
