Joe understands a core of Bucs fans just cannot wait for the day America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, has his flag lowered to half-mast and is chased out of town by a band of wild animals.
“He can’t win games,” the haters squeal, conveniently forgetting Jameis won nine games in 2016.
The Football Outsiders crowd is of the mind if the Bucs pull off a stunt like running him off, it will rank high on the list of regrettable moves by a franchise that is storied with regrettable moves.
Using all sort of calculations, Scott Kacsmar, typing for BSPN, has a list of most valuable quarterbacks to their teams. And guess who is No. 3?
Kacsmar is filled with statistical gobbledegook as to why he ranked Jameis so high. However, he added an item documenting how badly the Bucs hung Jameis out to dry. That grabbed Joe’s attention.
Yes, the defense was slap-your-priest bad at No. 32, and the lack of a run game was an embarrassment to thinking Americans. In fact, Kacsmar noted only one other team came close to having both such a rotten defense and a pathetic run game.
And that team was only the second of the Super Bowl era to go winless.

I’ll cheer for #3 and am happy with his performance so far this season.
I’ve never been in the crowd that finds his play a problem…other than his decision making. He clearly has the talent. He’s clearly a very hard worker and highly motivated.
Can we agree on one thing though…JW is on his last chance…he ABSOLUTELY needs to keep his nose clean off the field.
Early indications are that he’s finally getting that and with his improved accuracy in the preseason this should be the year that JW truly becomes a franchise QB.

I am hopeful Jamies turned a corner towards respectable maturity, even before the alleged Uber accusation was made public…. Must men grow up at some point and I believe Jamies is realizing how fortunate he is to be blessed with his physical skills and to be targeted as the franchise QB of an NFL team…. I do not want to see this man released and I hope for Tampa Bay and Winston he shines for many years, display mature growth, contributions to young people and WINS for the Bucs and their Fan Base!

When it comes to the “has not won” if you look at offenses that are top 10 in giveaways, it becomes very hard to win!!!!!! Unless you have a defense that was choking teams out!!!!!!!! I have seen this defense go on a 5 game tear of great play!!!!! We have yet to see JW3 have multiple great games in a row!!!!! This pre-season has been a hint of it possibly seeing that for the first time!!!!! The “real” fans hope so!!!!!!!

Winston isn’t going anywhere. The Bucs aren’t going to let him out of their site for the near future for one. He himself is smart enough to realize that, that kind of children’s playtime is over and that game time is the only playtime.

Just because I’m critical of Jameis, doesn’t mean I want him out of town. I have never understood the D is so bad, that why we can only score 20 points a game even though we can amass plenty of yards. So of the dumbest passes I’ve seen made have been by JW. I hope this year is different, because the Offense is looooooaded. We have 3 wrs that are pro bowl level and 2 great TEs. Go Bucs!

As shown last week against the Titans, he still makes poor decisions. The worse thing that could have happened was that play became a touchdown instead of an deserved interception. All it does is encourage him to keep making bad plays.
I want him to do well because the better the QB plays, the better the Bucs do. Improved defense and some semblance of a running game may make us a better team this year. Would have been a bit easier if our franchise quarterback and alleged leader could have not acted like a fool a couple of years ago….quess that was asking too much

If that pass from Winston to Godwin was a deserved interception then why wasn’t it intercepted? Bottom line is the WR was open and the pass was accurate. People complaining about an accurate pass are butt hurt that Winston is going to prove you all WRONG!

Guess I’m part of the wild animal group, but it’s simply ridiculous to point to his 9-7 record, and ignore his losing record. Kinda like “he’s on a 1 game win streak”…..and furthermore Joe….it’s a TEAM GAME, not a Winston game. And if this knucklehead rates Winston as No. 3 in importance to his team, that is assuredly a testament to the weakness of the team, not accolades to the QB. He will always be a so-so QB at best. But we only wish he could be a so-so person off the field. He will always have his terrible off-field personna (and on field if you count the Saints game where he started the fight with his childish helmet thumping while in street clothes).

Kid’s got talent, but the smile appears to be fraudulent in the locker room and outside of OBP as well. And he repeatedly makes undisciplined decisions with ball security.
Keep hoping the benefit of the doubt still belongs to him and he can sort it out personally and professionally. The evidence is not stacked in his favor, especially away from OBP.
Best thing that could happen is for Fitz to convincingly take 2 of 3, earn the Bears start, and be named the starter heading into the bye week.
Call me delusional or tell me I need to put the bottle down, but there would be a great calm and continuity that would come with Fitz permanently at the helm.

You said you don’t understand why the team doesn’t score more if the it’s the defense that is so bad.
In addition to the Bucs having a bad running game last year when you have one of the worst defenses in NFL history(I believe it was statistically the 5th worst in NFL history) you usually end up with long fields. Long fields make it much harder to score if your starting possessions at your own 20 rather than at the 50.

@wausa… our average drive start was middle of the pack. We weren’t really kicking long feild goals. Our red zone offense struggled… could be play calling, could be jw, could be team execution. Hopefully we figure it out and eat more w’s.

Thanks for pointing out that Vegas guys are not fans…they are not prognosticators other than the try to figure out which line/number will split fan money evenly on each game.
My father was a bookie so he explained this to me early on. The object is to get exactly the same amount of money wagered on each side. When that happens Vegas literally cannot lose. They take their vig off the top and then give what’s left to the winning side.
Since my father was small potatoes he had to “lay off” many bets if one side started placing too much money. My ole man did not want to be a gambler…except when he played cards and went to the track. LOL

Name one who is available with less risk than Koetter. Keep in mind that Koetter has this team bought in, and the team has only just been finished building according to his vision for it.
Also keep in mind that he had one losing season and one winning season for the Bucs, and his winning season was as a rookie HC.
