How Badly Is Gerald McCoy Hurt?

August 15th, 2018

Joe noticed something about Gerald McCoy yesterday and it wasn’t just No. 93 taking lots of time to sign autographs for kids.

It was obvious that McCoy was walking with a significant limp favoring his right leg.

Joe even called over another pair of eyes to verify.

For perspective, after the autograph session, McCoy walked from the Bucs’ indoor practice facility to team headquarters about 150 yards away. He didn’t call for a golf cart or ask one of the many security personnel for a ride. But he was limping the entire way.

Joe just hopes 30-year-old McCoy, who is known as a practice warrior, doesn’t feel a need to grind through a legitimate injury in the middle of August. Whatever he tweaked, he’s certainly earned the right to let it heal so he doesn’t limp into opening day in New Orleans in 25 short days.

Joe will monitor this development as the Bucs practice with/against the Titans today in Nashville.

Looks like an opening for Vita Vea

Problem is, he hasn’t practiced for a couple of weeks.

  3. Stanglassman Says:

I’m sure that if you noticed it the team Doctors are aware. It’s probably something like a Quad contusion. They would let him Go this time of year if he could do further damage. I doubt we’ll see him again til, maybe a series week 3, the opener.
What’s the word on Vita V? Is he Tennessee ready?

  4. Buc believer Says:

Wow this WAY early for batman. Normally she waits until the 3rd or 4th quarterbof a game in which the Bucs have a legit shot at winning before she gets hurt. I bet the thought of JPP making her look bad has scared her.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Thank you old time buc, I was thinking exactly the same thing.

It’s great that we finally have some DLine depth, but the big guys seem to be dropping like flies with leg injuries. First Vea, now GMC, and I thought that Allen was favoring his leg awhile ago. Rather hear that now than in the season though, so hopefully they all heal up and stay injury-free.

  8. Tom Edrington Says:

Sounds like this could be the year of the injury……

  9. Brandon Says:

If there was no medical attention given and he had just practiced yet still signed autographs, we’re probably looking at a blister or a bruised heel or toe that was stepped on at worst. If he’s out there again t
Today then it is definitely nothing to be concerned about.

  10. Buc believer Says:

Old time not trying to be funny just truthful. Unlike you GMC apologists who bury your head in the sand every year.

  11. BucEmUp Says:

Good coaching will make it happen. Every team has injuries. This is a good example of why not to get excited for other teams injuries.

If this team get embarrassed because a couple players are out it’s on the coaching. Injuries happen across the league every day, every season

  12. Bird Says:

No doubt. Medical staff would be watching closely

Hopefully he just had to take a real nasty dump / ASJ so he was walking funny /afraid to breach

We need him healthy in a bad way. So many guys mixed up. I wonder if they should pack it in early in preseason as a result. Make next game the final for starters Let the young guys/bubble guys battle it out for 2 weeks

    Soft tissue injuries.

Year after year. There’s a big problem.

    Wake up Bucs fans!!!!!!!!

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

We need him for week 1. Everything else is superfluous. Get well Gerald.

  16. Dooshlarue Says:

If you guys want a good, albeit sad laugh, go back in the archives and starting with about the week 2 Minnesota blowout, read the things the Great Gummy was quoted as saying.

Either you guys have very bad memories or are just a very forgiving bunch.
There’s a lot of disdain for Softy and a lot of it is justified….. not the repetitive BS coming from tmax/beotch.

Additionally, my week 1 take of our EXTREMELY lucky win against the Bears was blasted by so many of the wise ones on here.
    I called our defense soft.
No, I was told, we were World Beaters!

I notice a lot of those posters aren’t around anymore…..

I dare ya…… go back and check are a look.

  17. Godeep66 Says:

Dirk does not push these guys. Weak leader with an even weaker team captain.

  18. Louis Says:

I’m beginning to think that all the negative posters are just a different name for tmax. For crying out loud all you naysayers are such negative nancies. This is a fan blog page, go find a other team to spread your fertilization around

  20. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Better hope GMC doesn’t call you out Joe for saying he was injured like Antonio Brown did to that Pittsburgh reporter. Might get ugly, lol

  21. BurgDweller Says:

If he was a splash player or a game changer this would concern me. I am not concerned.

  22. buc15 Says:

    TMAX…I mean Reality in 3….2….1…

  23. pelbuc Says:

No big deal. Mr Potato Chip always get injured early in the season and uses it as an excuse for his disappearing act in close games. This will probably be one of his “lingering” injuries which will last most of the season, however long or short it may be. Aaron Donald, he is not!

  24. SOEbuc Says:

    BurgDweller

There is a very good chance that GMC could be a splash player this year not being double teamed because he has JPP and Vea next to him. He got a nice sack last week in Miami. Have to wait and see though. #keepthefaith GO BUCS.

  25. FrankPillow Says:

What a brutal group of fans- training camp, even in their current form, is a grueling, taxing affair. I played DII college ball in the 90s, was in tip top condition and still had by tail kicked and my body destroyed by our camp practices. What these guys are doing, their conditioning at the pro level, is far more significant, more difficult than anything than I experienced. That’s all to say, it’s one thing to justifiably blast a dude for dogging it or loafing during games (see Baker, Swaggy), it’s another thing entirely to criticize Gerald for limping off the field after practice. Cmon Bucs fans.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

Who needs an opponent when you have “fans” like these?!

    (Now THAT is “fan-shaming”! LOL!)

Your regularly scheduled bashing will now continue……………………………

  27. 813bucboi Says:

let em rest…..last thing we need is the injury excuse…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

I wish I could say I’m surprised. He’s worse than Luke Stocker and probably got hurt signing autographs or putting on his kimono. Sheez does it ever end?

  29. Gambelero Says:

I’ve always thought. “Wow. We sure have a bunch of Negative Nellies. On some threads we have more trolls than actual fans.”

Now, I’m beginning to think it’s only one person with multiple accounts..

  30. Buccfan37 Says:

Let Vea and GMC rest and heal up the entire balance of preseason to be ready when the games count.
