Chris Godwin Still Flashing
August 4th, 2018Earlier this week, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter raved about how “far” ahead of last year tight end O.J. Howard has been practicing this training camp.
Joe agrees. Howard may be having the best camp of any Bucs player. And if that is true, wide receiver Chris Godwin may not be far behind.
Godwin has been flashing each day. He made a crazy catch against M.J. Stewart this week and his highlight catches continued Saturday morning.
Ryan Fitzpatrick lofted a perfectly-targeted ball Godwin’s way along the left sideline. The ball went over Godwin’s right shoulder and the Penn State product pulled it in and was able to tap two feet down before going out of bounds in the end zone.
As deep as the Bucs are at wide receiver, Joe would not be shocked at all if there is a trade before the regular season begins.

Had another beautiful grab down the left sideline with Ryan Smith draped all over him in 11 on 11 in doors.
August 4th, 2018 at 12:35 pm
Godwin is capable of double digit TDs this year if he gets the right amount of opportunities.
The way Chris fights for the ball (and usually wins) – I know I would be looking for him in the end zone as a primary if I was the QB…

LOL – just noticed your 1 word description under the picture Joe. Love it!
August 4th, 2018 at 12:41 pm
Thanks Pick!

Serious 3rd round value. If he stays healthy – look out!

“As deep as the Bucs are at wide receiver, Joe would not be shocked at all if there is a trade before the regular season begins.”
Yup. I have been saying this for a while now. I believe you are correct Joe.
Question is OL or S?
August 4th, 2018 at 12:48 pm
All we need is a QB that can take advantage of all the offensive weapons.. especially hitting WR’s in stride…. for House Callz… we don’t need No Stink’n Red Zone ~~~~~~

“I just love the way Godwin runs downfield on special teams”
Klueless Koetter
Any competent playcaller would have Godwin starting and targeting over little Hump everyt game but our ancient playcaller keeps him at special teams. Our 2 Yac playmaking players OJ and Godwin is in the background under Klueless instead of scheming our whole offensive attack according to these 2 explosive players skillsets
“Hey Sheep, Stop Drinking the Klueless Koolaid!”

Trade a WR? You have to be referring to DJax, bc anyone else would be absurd. No one is trading Mike Evans, and no one else values any other WR we have.
So Licht is gunna trade DJax for what, a 4th round pick or a conditional 3rd at best? Some 2nd rate OL or S? I don’t see it.
I, for one, would be surprised if there’s a trade. Stop trying to give up our sick WR depth!!!
August 4th, 2018 at 1:03 pm
Negative on the receivers, Joe. Think depth.
Trade Winston and improve the team by50%.
Keep the best corps of receivers in the league.
August 4th, 2018 at 1:06 pm
Assuming you mean DJax what would we want in return? Player or future compensation? If player then what position is of greatest need at this point? I think that’s hard to say so I say let the season start and see how our roster plays out then maybe mid season if necessary
August 4th, 2018 at 1:19 pm
SB, we’re set at Safety… Justin Evans is a total stud and so is Jordan Whitehead. Watch out for those 2…
August 4th, 2018 at 1:21 pm
And I say keep everybody.
August 4th, 2018 at 1:22 pm
The bucs are not trading a wr especially with jameis missing the first 3 games. It will be all hands on deck. Btw….injuries happen and i for one do not need to see hump lining up as the number 2 receiver. Stop with the nonsense joe
August 4th, 2018 at 1:39 pm
I totally believe you Erik on the Evans front. Not sure about Whitehead just yet but am Hoping!
August 4th, 2018 at 2:12 pm
Godwin is as good as advertised.
Let’s see if the OC can get him involved before “3rd and forget it.”
August 4th, 2018 at 2:17 pm
Godwin is quickly becoming my favorite player! I say Hell no to trading any of our receivers. Injuries happen. NOOOOOOOOOO to trading any of them.
August 4th, 2018 at 4:01 pm
The Bucs are not that deep at receiver, Joe.
They have one stud in Evans.
A declining speedster in Djax.
An up and coming #2 in Godwin.
Humphries is an average NFL slot receiver (nothing wrong with that)
And then a bunch of young unprovens with potential in Watson, Bobo, etc.
I think for the first time the Bucs have an actual NFL caliber WR corp – but nothing is luxurious about it.
Factor in two tight ends and the Bucs are just right. It would make zero sense to trade that. Injuries are inevitable. Right now the Bucs could survive one injury to the receiving core and still be solid. Why give that away?
August 4th, 2018 at 4:23 pm
Actually the two players who led the Bucs in YAC last year were Cucky Sims and Adam Humphries.
August 4th, 2018 at 4:48 pm
I wouldn’t trade Evans, Jackson, Godwin, Humphries or Watson. I like BoBo too. You could lose a couple in a game to injury and then depth counts.
August 4th, 2018 at 5:51 pm
Yeah Joe, that’s what Kobe is saying,Hump and a 3rd string RB led the team in YAC, when our best TE is stuck blocking, and our stud number 2 WR is stuck on special teams, watch Klueless is going to pound JAG Peyton Barber into the line and average 3.0 YPCfor 10 games, then when we are 3-7, he’ll finally adjust to the explosive rookie, he is pathetic and I can’t wait till we replace him
August 4th, 2018 at 6:06 pm
Cucky Sims? someone doing porn during the offseason? no wonder he signed for the league minimum.
August 4th, 2018 at 6:27 pm
Joe, thats only because koetter loves to that little bubble screen to Humphries/Sims…now imagine running it to the house w/ DJax or Godwin? How many times did we Desean used on a shallow cross, drag, slants? Most of the time it was run, run, pass with 3 verticals on 3rd and long. Rinse, repeat. Same with running plays. Koetter had no imagination, too predictable.
August 4th, 2018 at 6:29 pm
In my opinion, Evans, Jackpot, Godwin, Watson, Wilson should be the starting WR’s. I like Hump as much as the next guy, but Watson and Wilson have way more upside. Play the best. Don’t over think it. Put all your cards on the table. Keep Hump as a ST guy and he’ll still get enough reps thru the season. I think Martino will be practice squad. He’s money for Jameis, though.
August 4th, 2018 at 6:57 pm
Godwin is lookin and sounding like Mike Evans #2. We had to wait till further in the season last year to see his good hands and moves tip towing those sidelines and being able to stretch the field. Very excited. Even if he does deserve it are the Bucs gonna give him the #2 WR over DJax cus we’re paying him big cash. Probably, but they shouldn’t if Godwin earns it. Trade DJax for OL. Still have tons of great depth at WR.

“What was the longest pass play of 2017?”
5 yard slant pattern to Godwin from JW3 for 75 yards vs Carolina”
They routes are the bread and butter of the new modern offenses of the NFL. Gets the ball out before the rush and highly probable and efficient
Our OJ and Godwin has the skillsets to take these short pass plays and run after catch and create havoc and huge openings to our other facets of our other run and pass game…yes explosive plays
“Little Hump cant do what Godwin can do”
Kobe Faker
August 4th, 2018 at 9:44 pm
The top QBs and offenses have a great possession RAC YAC outlet reciever.
Rashad Greene was that type of player for JW3 at FSU
MOLASSE EVANS IS NOT that type of player. His catch % @ 53 suks and he cant run after catch if his life depended on it. Kobe has stated many times it resembles Donavon Smith wearing skinny pants
“Run the offense thru OJ Howard and Godwin. Short game to open up the deeper vertical routes”

Kobe you expose yourself as unknowledgeable when you say Evans has no yac ability. In a game against the giants a few years ago Jameis hit him perfectly in stride on a 20 yard crossing pattern and he was in full stride when he caught it then turned it upfield for another 49 yards. It’s not that Evans can’t get yac, he’s a victim of Koetters play calling. All he gets are outs and comebacks. He’s not a burner but given space to run in he can do it.
August 5th, 2018 at 6:59 am
@David
Look at Yac yard avg stats and you will see MEME Evans has the worst avg in the NFL
“Dont hate the Player”

August 5th, 2018 at 6:10 pm
Oh I know that but he’s never given much chance to do it either. He’s no burner but he’s no slug either
