M.J. Stewart Ready For More
August 6th, 2018There is a phrase in sports when a baller makes a play on another baller.
And that phrase is, “The other guy gets paid, too.” M.J. Stewart, rookie corner of the Bucs, essentially said that in giving kudos to a teammate.
Over the weekend, One Buc Palace was still buzzing over the catch made by wide receiver Chris Godwin where he battled Stewart for the ball and Godwin came down with it. It was two warriors fighting. The best man won.
Speaking about that play, Stewart essentially doffed his cap to Godwin for making a play. Stewart also seemed to suggest his day is coming, and maybe soon.
“That was an unbelievable catch by him,” Stewart said. “I thought I broke it up. He caught it. He gets paid a lot. He’s a great receiver. So he is going to make some catches.
“I’m a scrappy player. I didn’t mean to pull his helmet. It was unintentional. But I am a scrappy player and I don’t want any catches on me. I’m going to fight to the end. It was an unbelievable catch by him. Kudos to him. We battle every day.”
Joe loves Stewart’s attitude: I’m coming after you. You may make a play on me but I’m coming back for more.
Solid corners have to have that attitude. Have a short memory and ball out on the next play.

Easily becoming my favorite player out of this draft. And it’s not even close.

M.J. Stewart and Chris Godwin could start on any NFL Team. We are lucky to have them here in Tampa. In case nobody has noticed, Jason Licht is rebuilding us with talented new players. Now, it is on our coaching staff to produce, and if they don’t, they must go.
The Tampa Bay Buc’s are much too talented to finish this year with a losing record again.

I can see Stewart, Whitehead, Davis, Vea, and Watson all contributing large this season. Rojo as well. If our Dline is as imposing as I think it will be, we’ll take the division. Brees and Ryan won’t know what hit em. And Newton will be running for his life. Very optimistic, I am.

What is this comment from Stewart about Godwin “he gets paid a lot?” Pretty sure (I have to assume) a 2018 2nd round pick is making more than a 2017 3rd rounder…
I’m all for hard working, scrappy fighters. I’m not for getting beat, face-masking (insult to injury all too common in past years) and crying the other guy gets paid a lot when interviewed. Let’s hope we see more of the first and not the latter.

When you are just weeks away from being a broke college kid, what Godwin is being paid sure as hell is a lot of money. 🙂

There will be a lot of turnover in this Defensive Backfield ….or it should be!

I agree, BigHog.

I would love to see our defensive backfield come out playing fast on Thursday. Im convinced that part of why we drafted those two DBs in the Wnd round was because they bpth can tackle really well. We couldnt tackle dogspit last year. Aside from coverage just getting better tackling bacl there will make a vast difference.

Thank you Joe for putting some smack down. Some guys read a whole lot out of just a little!

They will get their chance to prove it. We will need our defense to really be stout and stingy the first 3 games to help the offense until our QB returns (although I have faith in Fitz.
