Sweezy “Taken Aback” When Bucs Cut Him

August 2nd, 2018

“Mr. Licht, Mr. Glazer, I really thought you appreciated all I gave you for nearly $14 million of Team Glazer loot?”

Man, Joe is annoyed with former Bucs guard J.R. Sweezy tonight, the newest member of the Seahawks offensive line.

Joe’s so glad Sweezy is now 3,000+ miles away.

He signed with the Seahawks this week and was blubbering to the Seattle Times about how he longed to return to his old team and (wait for it) he didn’t see his Bucs release coming.

“I guess no one is expecting to be released right?,’’ [Sweezy] said. “So, yeah, I was a little taken aback, if you will. But it is what is. It’s the NFL.’’

Man, what did Sweezy think was going to happen? He’d be welcomed back to drain the company wallet again?

Sweezy didn’t practice or play for the Bucs in 2016, after signing a fat contract in March of that season. His mysterious back injury remains top secret. Sweezy returned to start last year after restructuring his contract — and he looked like a guy coming off a back injury.

A busted leg cost Sweezy the final two games of 2017. He was a fixture at Bucs spring practices this year, taking mental reps and being an engaged part of the team while watching and healing.

It’s going to be awfully interesting to see how the trio of ex-Bucs starting guards perform this season with their new teams: Kevin Pamphile (Titans), Patrick Omameh (Giants) and Sweezy.

Ultimately, Joe might most remember Sweezy for his national declaration of love for Jameis Winston.

Bucs medical staff didn’t do their research. I blame them and Licht

  2. JohnLynchBrokeMyBody47 Says:

Squeegee, er, Sweezy is old news. He’s proud and in denial right now. Moving on…

  3. Waterboy Says:

    J.R. “Easy Money” Sweezy

  4. SB Says:

Watching the HOF game. First helmet rule call was spot on. Second was the most egregious miss-call I have seen in a While.
    God help us!

  5. Pete Mitchell Says:

I’m super nervous about our depth at guard. Letting Pamphile walk and cutting sweezy seems like an awfully big gamble. What’s the line from Dirk,”you can never have too many good football players.” Something but hey I guess if went 5-11 with them there’s no reason to think we can’t go 5-11 without them.

    Man, Joe is annoyed

I feel ya, DB is concerned about the state of the Bucs oline. Specifically the RG and RT positions. I’m not too keen on the center either, but wtfdik.

In what alternate universe does a pro fb team need #27 to step in at guard? Especially when there’s 91 men on the roster!

Joe Cool can be throwing to Jerry Rice and Randy Moss but if there’s no oline you can’t score points. Won’t happen, simple as that!

What an embarrassment it would be if you have all those weapons on offense Evans, Jackson, Godwin, Brate, Howard and potentially Jones and not be able to score points. Jameis will get all the blame, as he limps his way through the season.

  7. Buc50 Says:

Wish we could have “taken aback” some of the money you sucked up from our salary cap and no production.

  8. Lamarcus Says:

I see reports of how these guys are so transparent and candid praise but see ex players come out and say things like Sweezy did. This has to be something like a disconnect with the players and coaches.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m surprised we didn’t sign a FA guard…..they must have very high hopes for Benenoch and ESP in so far as injury is concerned.

  10. Doctor Stroud Says:

The Sweezy case is just a symptom of a much larger problem. Why was Sweezy even allowed out there in training camp and practices with his floppy hat taking “mental reps”? What good did it do? What message did that send to the rest of the team? The picture says it all. The coaches, GM, and owners are to blame for this debacle. Look for more bad training camps and practices under this regime. They care more about coddling than winning.

  11. Neil Says:

Maybe Randall McDaniel or Logan Mankins are available?

  12. Bucsfan951 Says:

This dude started only 14 games in 2 years for the bucs and got paid 14 million dollars within that time and he’s wondering why he got cut? He’s stupider than I thought! Smh

  13. Stanglassman Says:

I think they would have brought another G in if they weren’t impressed with Boozer and Liedtke’s progress. I think Boozer will be a practice quad guy and Liedtke will be our emergency, can play everything but center guy.

With Evan as backup G, C and Celeb starting RG.

  14. Tom S. Says:

Sweezy didn’t sign himself to that ridiculous contract. Licht did, and let’s not forget that there were no Pro Bowls or All-Pro’s on Sweezy’s resume when Licht overpaid the guy in the first place.

  15. Buc believer Says:

What will be REALLY interesting to watch is if his back “hurts” now that he is back with the Sea Hags. (Not a typo) If he plays or starts most of the games he should be prosecuted for fraud against the Bucs.

  16. AlteredEgo Says:

Sweezy “Taken Aback”…I see what you did there 🙂

  17. feelthepewterpower Says:

    How desperate is Seattle?

  18. Buddy Says:

Why are you so happy now Joe?? You thought he was greatest thing since sliced bread when they signed him. That and the “ DUNKANEERS”. So funny nobody talks about that nonsense anymore. What joke. Just like will come of your dumba$$ naming of “America’s Quarterback” as usual you’ll look like a idiot again.

  19. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Do you all forget football is great for steroid shots so players can play. The fact he went back to them shows he didn’t want to leave and I said it way back then that’s what he did you pass his physical prior to being signed. NowI believe that Seattle released him so they wouldn’t have to pay for it then he came suckered us since we were so desperate for a guard knowing he’d all along be going back to Seattle. Some so called realist up here said Lovie Smith stole from the Bucs. Atleast he came here with the intention of trying to make this team better his plan just didn’t work out.Where as SwindlerSweezy came here with the intention of stealing and his plan worked…………….. priceless

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Luv yas Joe. You sure know how to make me..Nut up bro!! Sweezy taken aback by being released? The man virtually sit on his A.. for a couple of yrs, collected a bigtime NFl Salary (more than many active roster guys), Sunbathed on Clearwater Beach, got his therapy and massages, And probably a few chicks….FOR FREE!!! He earned that title of EASY MONEY SWEEZY!!
