Uneasy Flashback Quote From Dirk Koetter
August 2nd, 2018I was trying — that’s what messed me up — I was trying to throw the ball to Mike Evans the whole game and that kind of threw me off my game. I wanted him to get that record. — Jameis Winston, December 31, 2017.
Who could forget that gem of a take from America’s Quarterback. Joe might have until Dirk Koetter spoke yesterday.
First, here’s the rest of the quote from Jameis after his 45th NFL start.
“…Luckily, he got it by one yard so, shoot, I accomplished what I wanted to do. I didn’t go out there. I didn’t want to throw three interceptions but I also didn’t think we were going to have a 95-yard drive, either. So like I said. God is good. That’s all that matters. We got the win, right?”
It was a bizarre take from Jameis. The reference to the “record” was Evans finishing with 1,000 or more receiving yards for the fourth consecutive season. He squeaked that out and the Bucs won on the final play of the game, a bomb from Jameis to Chris Godwin after coaches were screaming at Jameis to throw short to open Adam Humphries to set up a short field goal.
Koetter spoke yesterday about chemistry between Ryan Fitzpatrick and DeSean Jackson (they both clicked in the red zone last season) and repeated a line he has said multiple times this year.
“On all pass plays, the defense dictates where the ball goes,” Koetter said.
“The quarterback doesn’t go up there and say, ‘Hey I think I want to throw it to DeSean this time.’ The defense dictates that, but they have connected fairly often. And they had a couple good ones today.”
Well, as we learned from Jameis in his last game, sometimes the QB does go up there and decide who he’s throwing to, over and over, whether he’s open or not.
Joe wonders deeply what kind of impact that Saints game had on Koetter and his trust of Jameis.

I believe Dirk is praying that Fitzpatrick does very well while filling in. He may not have as strong an arm as JW but he most certainly has more mental horsepower AND he does a much better job in not putting his D in a bad spot with bone hard decisions. Let’s go Buccaneers and let’s go Fitz Patrick!
August 2nd, 2018 at 12:32 pm
I said this the other day Joe.
Bizarre take by Jameis.
Immature as well.
But hey, God is good right?

Some feel the Saints game was meaningless….wanted to lose for a better draft pick…..
For me, all games are meaningful….we beat a Division team who we have up first next year…..it was certainly a confidence builder for Jameis but probably meant the world to Godwin. Better taste in the players mouths in the off-season…..
And for us real fans…..all wins are precious.
August 2nd, 2018 at 12:47 pm
Glennon threw to V. Jackson and Evans on consecutive plays to open the finale a couple years ago to get each 1,000 yards. What’s the problem? not a peep back then. Maybe the defense dictated it?
August 2nd, 2018 at 12:49 pm
Pablo says that Jameis probanly said “God is good” in that Uber.
God is good for the NFL suspending Jameis.
August 2nd, 2018 at 12:50 pm
TBBF,
I’m all for winning every game we play and yeah, that Saints win probably did leave a good taste in their mouths……
And then Jameis came along and pissed in it.

Geez, you two Joe’s just can’t help yourselves. Do you feel this blog will suffer greatly without comments from the hate mob? Maybe so. They seem to make up the majority of comments these days. Gotta make a livin’ I guess. But, hating ain’t much of a living. Be better, Joe’s. Quit piling on.

That quote from Winston reminds us what an idiot he is.

Manziel launches in Canada tomorrow night…Bucs better be looking closely…They’re gonna need a QB
August 2nd, 2018 at 1:23 pm
The quote reminds me that Winston chooses to listen only when he wants to regardless of what Koetter or Fisher think. He had the same issues at FSU. I think JBF has heard the rumors that Winston was asked by Fisher to not come back hence is departure to the NFL.
There is one play toward the end of the national title game v oregon that has always made me a doubter of Winston…from this day I said “this is the guy who is going to save this Buc team from floundering”? I doubted it then and with all that has transpired as a Buc I still doubt his ability to be a elite NFL QB. I wish it was different….really do.

I tried to post a link above to the play referenced but I the JBF NSA did not allow. Its the play where he falls back on his butt and still tries to pass – to only fumble and have it returned for a TD….Im sure you have all seen it.
August 2nd, 2018 at 1:34 pm
Fitz will be 2-1 and then get the Chicago start because of the short week. Then he will be 3-1 and Winston won’t see the field in 2018…
August 2nd, 2018 at 1:51 pm
We won idc how we win.
Koetter was playing softy and didn’t want to fight Payton. I bet his game plan was cheesy too for no drama from Payton.

I don’t think Dirk is afraid of Sean “Butthole Lips” Payton.

Those, my fellow Buc fans, are the words of a Mental Midget.
If you fully (key word) support that kind of crap, then you are a fan of Jameis and most certainly not a fan of the Bucs’ TEAM.
August 2nd, 2018 at 2:12 pm
Middle finger from jameis to dirk…I will say there’s a much higher probability that jameis will be a buc in 2019 than dirk. God is good.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:13 pm
Koetter was scared of Payton.
After reading the article and what I’ve perceived is that JW had the game plan and was like “screw you Dirk”
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:15 pm
Dooshlarue
I support fully because THAT MENTEL MIDGET mentality got us a win. U know the 5th win.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:17 pm
The win also dropped us down the draft board….
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:17 pm
A little too mich reading between the lines IMO.
We had next to nothing to play for in that game. Thats all there was too it. I would wager almost any QB out there would try fo play for that record just the same
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:23 pm
Godeep……That win moved us down in the draft and put us right i to the trading range and we were able to cash in.
Reguardless if you rooted for the Saints to beat us you are indeed a bandwagon fan. I find it funny that the draft worked out better for us with the win. A lil spit in the face to the bandwagoneers.
I argued with the bandwagoneers before the draft then they went back under their rocks when the trades went down.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:24 pm
The win that saved dirks job
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:24 pm
Can’t blame him for wanting to take care of Mike, especially in a “meaningless game”. However, that mentality has to change if we want a balanced, winning offense. We need the “leader” to buy in 1000%! In instances like this you can’t help but wonder if the play-calling is to blame or the QB.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:30 pm
Geez really? The season was toast. A win or a loss at that junction has ZERO meaning except for draft position which I highly doubt the players give a hoot. Doesn’t surprise me that Winston was trying to get Evans a landmark. Didn’t Winston get Humphries his first NFL TD when he could have easily walked into the end zone? Making a mountain out of a molehill. Typical for Bucs fans accustomed to losing.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:32 pm
JimmyJack- To add to that, all games are meaningful as are WINS, especially if you’re a tried and true Bucs fan!
The draft is not a sure-fire thing. How many players, 1st rounders, never make it to a 2nd contract? You don’t play the game for draft status, that’s for losers and it’s a losing mentality. You go out there and you beat the brakes off of the team in front of you for 16 games and never let off the gas! That’s how you build a winning mentality. You think the Patriots give a rats a$$ about drafting in the high 20’s and low 30’s year after year?! Just go win games.
It scares me that some Bucs fans think otherwise!
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:37 pm
Agreed Bucsfanman. But trust me, many here were rooting for New Orleans week 17. I had quite arguements about this. for some reason they really don’t like it when you call them bandwagon fans. But that is the textbook definition of what they are.
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:57 pm
This fan base never ceases to amaze me of just how clueless many of them are ie doolsh/godeep. Go back and look at the 1997 broncos and how the oline stated how they overruled play calls coming from the sideline because they wanted to get terrell davis over the 2000 yard mark their last game. Look at 1994 when david robinson scored 71 pts the last game of the season in order to win the scoring title. His teammates fed him the rock all night. Look at 1990 when scott skiles dished out 30 assist. His teammates in the 4th quarter were taking horrible shots just to see if they could add to his assists so he could break record of 29. Obviously idiots who have never played team sports would fault jameis or in this case write a story to give to the idiot trolls. Some players have milestones in their contracts that equates to extra money and teammates many times go out of their way to ensure they reach that milestone if they are close but you idiots are so quick to bash jameis you are too clueless to know this type of thing happens all the time. He!! even farve took a dive for strahan’s sack record. Again this happens all the time. Jameis didnt know he was playing for such a clueless fan base when he made that statement of wanting to ensure evans reached 1000 yards. Get a freaking clue
August 2nd, 2018 at 3:58 pm
We’ve all been regaled with the story of how Fameis ignored the call and instead went to Godwin. Of course he completed the pass and we win. If he missed the pass we lose. But all’s well that ends well.
What I’d like to know is if there were other times when Fameis went against Koetter’s call but instead of success found failure or worse…an int!!! We don’t really know and I don’t think we ever will.
Here is a genuine question for #3. Can he simply enjoy winning or does he have to win “his way”. Gunslinger to the end…riverboat gambler…
If our defense plays well and we get a running game there is NO need for Fameis to behave like that. With our number of targets someone WILL be open.
Take the open target Fameis…do not force the ball for records or better field position…take what the D gives us! Move the chains and score TD’s not FG’s.

Also, meet me at the ship at Ray Jay. Ill buy you a beverage

Blah, Blah, Blah…..pass me another “W” to eat please.
August 2nd, 2018 at 4:12 pm
@ Webster
You forgot Brett Favre scrambling, looking for Strahan so he could lay down in front of him for a sack.
That was one of my favorites.
August 2nd, 2018 at 4:34 pm
Koetter said his main issue with Jameis is he runs whatever he calls because thinks he can complete any pass. Koetter wants Jameis to recognize what a defense is giving and act accordingly, not be a bullhead and robotically runwhat Koetter calls.
August 2nd, 2018 at 4:35 pm
Dear Jameis,
Please give webster one of your special hugs……. the little guy needs it.
August 2nd, 2018 at 4:46 pm
In the Carolina loss we went something like 0-5 in the redzone. If you look at all of those failed posessions our offensive line was a huge reason we couldnt convert.
They had a few breakdowns on some drives and were straight up neaten man on man on others.
Plenty of blame to go around.
August 2nd, 2018 at 4:52 pm
Really? Are some of you talking abput the same Fitz who lead the league in interceptuons all but 2 seasons ago?? Just admit you either hate Jameis or never liked him to begin with. Anyone who believes Fitz is better than Jameis is clueless. Fitz has had many chances and never did squat with any. I dont care if he does 3-0 out the shoot Jameis gives us the best chance to win with who we have for qbs on our roster!!
August 2nd, 2018 at 5:04 pm
Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Koetter said he dreams of the day Jameis comes to him and tell him that was a terrible playcall Dirk and audibles to a more appropriate play…..what am I missing?…. I think that’s exactly what JW did in New Orleans last year
August 2nd, 2018 at 5:05 pm
AmericasQB, while I think its very unlikely until they lace em up there is always a chance that Fitzpatrick takes command of this team and plays really good football for us. It would defientaly create a contreversy and I couldnt blame Dirk if he kept Fitz as the starter. Gotta remember Dirks career is on the line here.
Just put yourself in Fitzpatricks shoes. What would your mindset be approaching the start of the season?
August 2nd, 2018 at 5:07 pm
Joe always trying to find something to tear team apart!!’
Yep, that’s Joe. C’mon, man. Why make things up. There’s always plenty of positive to be found on the home page every day. Archives are all here if you’re missing something. –Joe
August 2nd, 2018 at 5:18 pm
Don’t really care that much about this given that we were 4-10 and there wasn’t much else to play for.
Oh and he did drive the team 95 yards in less than 2 minutes to win the game.
But f*ck him I guess lol. Jonny Manziel has had plenty of game winning drives in the NFL like that. Well not really at all. but let’s sign him apparently.
August 2nd, 2018 at 5:25 pm
Dear wizard of oz
Please give doosh a brain because you see what he is working with.
August 2nd, 2018 at 6:02 pm
Nobody should act like they didn’t already know Jameis is a gun slinger and Mike Evans in 6′ 5″ and can win almost any jump ball. Don’t act surprised.
Not saying its right because it not….just saying
August 2nd, 2018 at 8:10 pm
@Webster
You had me until you got to “even farve took a dive for strahan’s sack record.” That was one of the most disgusting displays I’ve ever see. Favre and Strahan aren’t even on the same team! It looked all the world like there was probably some significant cash changing hands after that game. Unethical is the word that comes to mind. They are lucky no one tried to levy fixing charges. You know a lot of money had to have been bet on that Strahan sack total.
Your own teammate is different.

Chicago will be like game 1 last year. 100% certain big money JW will be back for that game. Couldnt script it any better if I was writing for the NFL myself.
Maybe thats why he only got 3 games???
PS… Go for the records.JW. As a real Bucs fan thats all I have to hang my hat on!!!
August 2nd, 2018 at 9:50 pm
As we can see Jameis can never win with these buffoons. He gets stripped sack from behind it’s his fault the team loses. He throws for 300 yards 3tds and no ints but we lose its his fault. We lose even though there’s 40 other guys who play it’s his fault. He finds a way to win then they cry oh he dropped us in the draft. This fan base don’t deserve a football team. So many of you drag him thru the mud but if the day ever comes he hoists that Lombardi trophy in Tampa I know your pasty butts will be right in his face begging for an autograph! You people are pathetic!
August 2nd, 2018 at 9:53 pm
So go deep you just confirmed you are a troll and not a fan you complain that us winning the last game of the year that brought us real bucs fans great joy. That it was bad that it dropped are draft pick. I would take a win over a 1 spot up on a 50/50 draft. We traded down anyways so it doesn’t matter. Second you say you are good with Fitzpatrick and he doesn’t turn the ball over like jameis. You do realize that Fitzpatrick threw 6 interceptions in a game. There is a reason he is a backup. If he was so great he would have got a big contract to be a starter somewhere. Like mike glennon did last year. Take your hater colored glasses off. Jameis is the best qb option for this team. I bet when he starts you will be celebrating when he throws an interception and be gloating on the open thread. That’s not a fan that’s a dude that takes his personal hate way to far.
August 3rd, 2018 at 1:39 am
While I always want the bucs to win that game was the end of a lost season n I hope that is the only reason jw kept trying to get me the ball. With that said I kinda wish we lost so we would have that payback mentality for week1 but instead the saints will have that payback mentality. Hopefully fitz can pull off an upset though
August 3rd, 2018 at 4:00 am
THANK U
A bucin Cane …I THINK SOME TIME I AM RHE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBER DIRK SAYIN THIS:
“Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Koetter said he dreams of the day Jameis comes to him and tell him that was a terrible playcall Dirk and audibles to a more appropriate play…..what am I missing?…. I think that’s exactly what JW did in New Orleans last year”
THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS! WHY WOULDN’T JW PLAY TO HELP MIKE since we had nothing left to play for other than Dirk’s job after he was left taking a beating after he was hurt during THE 2nd game…and that same game gave our (rookie stud receiver) GODWIN much help…
Yes Gilhealy…
CLICK, CLICK, CLICK…glad you’re back along with the rest….because this board is being saturated with Jameis haters…it is very over whelming at times…and starting yo wean off
August 3rd, 2018 at 4:43 am
*And that same game helped boost our rookie stud rcvr Godwin
*I am strting to wean off!

America’s QB,
I have to ask because you say Fitz lead the league in picks, fact is 2015 & 2016 Jameis Winston threw more picks than Fitzpatrick, What are you talking about?
