Lavonte David: Jameis Made A “Silly Mistake”

July 25th, 2018

The NFL ruled last month that Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback,  touched an Uber driver “in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent” during a March 2016 ride.

Lavonte David weighed in on the mess this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

It was a “silly mistake” by Jameis, David said a couple of times while talking to media. And he stood by that characterization several minutes later when asked about whether he really thought what Jameis did was a “silly mistake.”

David emphasized Jameis isn’t that kind of guy who treats people inappropriately and Jameis has matured greatly as a man and a professional.

“Just a silly mistake, man, he knows it. We all know it. [The team] got his back,” David said.

Joe can’t call whatever Jameis did silly. “Creepy” or “foolish” seems a lot more appropriate.

On the upside, if Bucs players are like David, and think what Jameis did is well in the past and not a huge deal, then the suspension is unlikely to divide the team.

“Silly mistake”???? That’s a silly assessment of a sexual assault and subsequent lying to his teammates and employers.

    Just a little hassle…

  3. Dapostman Says:

Can’t wait to read all these psych majors comments.

  4. Guzzie Says:

Naming my fantasy team “JameisTouchedMyJuju” seems more like a silly mistake than grabbing a woman’s crotch, only President Trump is allowed to do that

  5. Kung fu Kenny Says:

It was silly, Jameis is a pike, this is what pikes do every night of the week in tally. Jameis just needs to learn he’s not in college anymore and that his actions have serious repercussions to the company he works for. Can’t wait for the Bucs to be able to get a discounted price on Jameis once he lights it up this year, Jason should try to use this to his advantage next offseason and lock him up for 20/year. Let the sjws cry about it all they want, they’ll soon figure out that it’s a business too.

Perhaps his teammates know more about the situation than the media. She said he touched her, media says he groped her.

I’ve accidently touched before, was it a grope or a brush across?
If you call a banana an apple long enough does it become an apple?

I wonder what an intoxicated Jameis after ordering food, did he touch her while reaching for the food or did she/he drop something in her lap. Or was it the intoxicated clumsy hsd placement?

We weren’t there, was he in the back or the front…if in the front why

  7. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

***Hand placement of a tipsy, occupant?

  8. webster Says:

Not once id lvd say that jameis touching the girl was a silly mistake. Its a silly mistake for journalist and fans to assume lvd is talking about touching the girl. His silly mistake was getting drunk or putting yourself in position to be accused because you cant remember or he did not notify the team/nfl when it happened so in that regard it was a silly mistake. Stop putting words in lvd’s mouth. I listened to all of the interviews and no matter how many times the silly media asked about jameis and the accusation, not one player touch on the validity of the accusation as if to say jameis is guilty for what he is accused. All said they have jameis back. Ofcourse leave it to joe and silly fans to say lvd’s silly mistake comment was in direct response to the validity of the accusation. This is a classic since you’re reading far more between Joe’s lines that what you’re accusing Joe of doing with Lavonte David.–Joe

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

If you’re mad, you’ve probably been mad and will most likely stay mad. No Buccaneer puts food on my table or pays my bills. Until then, it’s just football. Players and coaches will have to live with their own choices in life. I’m too busy with mine!

  10. R.O. Says:

Who said he did anything? Jerry Richardson’s case the NFLs statement was the allegations against were substantiated. Winstons’s case her story was credible and consistent. There’s a big difference..

  11. Not there yet Says:

I love it lol the media specifically nbc sports talk and the haters masquerading as “fans” will have to shut it down. Football is back if you want drama there are hundreds of reality shows where you can get your fix. But Felicia

  12. Seminole Bill Says:

So long as Bucs players, coaches and perhaps owners buy into this “silly mistake” nonsense, it almost guarantees a repeat.

  14. TampaSteve Says:

Yep, a felony is a silly mistake. Smdh

  15. Pickgrin Says:

    That’s an important point R.O.

The NFL’s statement about the matter sounded really bad – until you consider that everything they wrote about Jameis having groped the driver – was based on the pre-ceding statement that the NFL found her story “credible”. Not proven. Not 100% the facts. But “credible”.

In other words – “We talked to the driver – we talked to Winston. The driver stuck to her story and seemed credible – Winston was honest and said he didn’t remember much past a certain point about that night – so on that basis and because the release of this story was an embarrassment to the shield – we the NFL tend to believe the driver in this case even though there’s no proof. (especially considering this player’s – ahem, alleged “history”). So thus – here’s what he did (allegedly)….

    bad choice of word LVD…..

  17. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

He was a 21 year old man child making silly decisions at that age. It was no more than grabbing a womans butt. Not right but if she had felt threatened she woulda called the police. The thing you guys miss is she said as soon as she asked him what’s up with that he stopped and no further problems. The lying part can’t make any excuses for other than to say to all you who are taking his lying so personally that he is irredeemable then if you’ve never told a lie please cast the 1st stone and go write a new bible since you’re so perfect

  18. DB55 Says:

I listened to the pc live too and came away with the same message. We got his back, it was a long time ago and Jameis is a great guy.

Spin it to fit your personal beliefs but it seems like it’s water under the bridge.

  19. webster Says:

    Joe

Your own word is “creepy” which would imply jameis did infact touch the driver which would mean lvd is calling touching a woman a silly mistake. A peeping tom/groper have all been described as creepy like you just did. I have never heard of someone putting themself in position to possibly be accused as creepy or someone not reporting to the nfl/team as creepy. Again, Lvd did not touch on the validaty of the accusation. Im not sure what you feel i am missing. You feel jameis did something creepy and you are entitled to that opinion but you and lvd are talking about two different things.

  20. Howard Cosell Says:

According to the Winston Lynch Mob it wasn’t a small mistake.
It was more along the lines of a hate crime or an act of war…

Saddle the horses! We’re riding out!

  21. Lamarcus Says:

Lvd doesn’t interview well but this I do know what he means. Lvd was just using his “smartness” this time

  22. BucsNeedNewFans Says:

After this, his changed his words to “Poor Decision” later on in the interview, but of course you wouldn’t report that would you?

  23. BigMacAttack Says:

This is good. They need to stay together behind Jameis because no matter what, winning is priority one. If they were all dogging Jameis out, he might lose focus. A lot of jobs and reputations are at stake. This is a must win year and they all seem to know it. I envision them coming out with a vengeance. I think they’re going to take it out on the Saints to the point that Payton rethinks everything. It may get ugly. Phili will see a buzzsaw coming and not know what to think. The Steelers are going to be tough. Tomlin is hard nosed, Big Ben doesn’t get rattled easy and the Bucs may have their hands full. This will be the game that the Bucs’ offense really has to kick it in gear. I only hope that Koetter coaches to their strengths and let’s them run with it. This could very well be the best Bucs’ team since the Super Bowl. I say they 100% make the playoffs and win the division. Go Bucs!!!

  24. Buc_The_World Says:

Leave to Joe and “silly” fans to make more of this than what it is. It was a silly mistake to get drunk and put yourself in a situation where someone could accuse you of something and to not tell the team. I fault him for that. Secondly of course her account seems credible because no one can prove otherwise but no one can prove that Winston’s account isn’t true either. The woman that said Kobe raped her was credible too until they found out her panties was soiled by another guy. Kobe was called a rapist and every name under the sun. When the truth came out what happened to her? Nothing. But for arguments sake,o let’s say he did touch her, was it right? No but he was inebriated and she knew it. According to her she asked him to stop and he did. That should have been it case closed. When drunk women grab my crotch in the club I don’t run to security and say that woman assaulted me. I know she is drunk and not in her right mind. She knew what her plan was the minute he got in that car. She is trying to act like she doesn’t want money yet she reported this and she is lawyered up looking for him to say something to incriminate himself. If she felt that strongly about it why no got to the police?

Shouldn’t that read so on that basis and because the release of this story was an embarrassment to the shield COMBINED with Jameis Winstons history of off field problems, with a previous rape charge that he was not found guilty of – we the NFL tend to believe the driver in this case even though there’s no proof. (especially considering this player’s – ahem, alleged “history”). So thus – here’s what he did (allegedly)….

  27. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Buc_The_World
Totally in AGREEment with ALL you wrote. Yes it was a SILLY MISTAKE, that depends on who you believe JW or UBER driver!

And it is safer and much easier to believe her rather than JW!

The teammates have had 2 1/2 years to move on…

Silly is when you keep trying to turn the apple into a banana!

  28. SB Says:

Get accused of stealing once. Not a thief. Get accused of stealing twice, probably a thief.
I am not saying he is but WHY is it so hard to figure out that most people think you are?

  29. SB Says:

And for the record the “silly mistake” was going out with Darby and Banks and getting so drunk that your “friends” put you in the front seat of an uber with a female driver ALONE knowing your past.
    Silly, Silly, Silly!

  30. Dick Butkiss Says:

[That’s just a little over the top, even for Joe. Just a little. Enjoyed the sarcasm though. — Joe]

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

“According to the Winston Lynch Mob it wasn’t a small mistake.”

Lynch mob…LMAO…that’s called a strawman and it’s laced with a lot of hyperbole.

I no longer trust Jameis…I make no threats about how I’ll root this year…I’m a Buc’s fan so I’ll root for them no matter who plays QB.

But can we stop with the lunacy of a “small mistake”. If it was the only mistake…a single screwup…I’m all in…but I had to do that time and time again.
This is NOT a single mistake for Jameis and that’s what makes us upset.

I do not think Jameis is a sexual deviant. But it’s clear to anybody who wants to be objective that he’s made mistake after mistake after mistake…many of them were indeed small…the crab legs was probably a misunderstanding…but going out getting drunk…getting the girl drunk…having sex with her while your posse records it may not be rape but it’s hardly the act of a classy guy. But again that’s only one mistake. Yelling FHITP during that time period was just moronic.

It’s not the p grabbing…it’s not the stupidity of all these mistakes…it’s the total growing number of poor decision making.

  32. SB Says:

I get it SPBF………..”Fool me Once”!

  33. Buccaneer Bill Says:

I suppose the good news is that if Donald Trump were in the NFL he’d have been suspended for at least a season. Since his accusers outnumber Winston’s.

  34. Dapostman Says:

    @Buccaneer Bill,
how many season’s would Bill Clinton get? Geez get off the politics. This is supposed to be a Bucs FOOTBALL site. Maybe you can go and post on Salon. I’m sure you and all the other group thinkers can peck away about Trump all the while stroking ………..your egos together.
