Health Mysteries Continue
July 24th, 2018First it was J.R. Sweezy and then it was Demar Dotson. Now it is promising second-year linebacker Kendell Beckwith.
When recently released right guard Sweezy, trying to come back from a broken leg, was unavailable for underwear football, the Bucs stated they were hoping he would be full-go by training camp.
Instead, Sweezy is unemployed as the Bucs cut him.
Then back in February, Demar Dotson, who also was coming off an injury to end the 2017 season, said on the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” that he was just given a green light to resume all football-related activities in underwear football — and then seven weeks later Ian Rapoport of NFL Network announced Dotson underwent knee surgery. The Bucs replied like they did with Sweezy: They were hopeful Dotson would be full-go for training camp.
Now add Beckwith to the list of injury mysteries. In April, Beckwith was involved in a car accident and needed surgery on a fractured ankle. Days later he was spotted at One Buc Palace bouncing around as best he could on a scooter (similar to this).
Yesterday, the Bucs placed Beckwith on the active/non-football injury list. He won’t practice when training camp starts this week and is out for the foreseeable future.
What spooks Joe is that Scott Smith, the multimedia maven of Buccaneers.com, Twittered out the Bucs are hopeful Beckwith can resume practicing before the regular season starts in early September.
The way the Bucs have swung and missed on projecting recovery timelines since the end of the 2017 season, Smith’s words are less than comforting.

whats going on with the medical staff?…..wtf are they doing?……they misdiagnosed winstons injury as well…..he had to go get an second opinion from dr Andrews….
glazers need to reduce the salaries of the coaches until we start winning and get some actual football medical folks in there that can do their jobs…..
their putting careers in jeopardy……

Good to be deep at LB

And do not forget the Clinton McDonald mystery

We are deep at LB and Adarius Taylor is looking good so not as big a loss as Dotson would be.
Hopefully Jack Cichy is a steal

Got two words for you: INJURED RESERVE

BTW Joe(s), thank you for getting us thru another long off season. Several great articles everyday, whereas all the other pundits gave us “news” at a rate of about one article per week.
You guys kick butt! I just wish the one Joe would learn to drink good beer – I think it would improve your perspective!

I would suggest with this and the joke of a MRSA article that someone with basic medical knowledge needs to write these. The training staff is off on how long it takes a huge person to rehabilitate those joints so people can run as fast as they can into those joints again? And you want an absolute number? Because all people, and all joints, heal and rehab the same. Everyone knows that. You realize if he had lost his foot he could have still been seen scooting around on that scooter a week later.

What the Bucs should do is fire the entire training/medical staff including the team doctors. Knowing the Glazers they probably hired people that got their degrees online.

Good bet Beckwith sees the field before Winston

Beckwith will be fine. Typically recovery from what I’ve read for his injury is about 6-8 weeks. He’s already rehabbing so I would expect him to sit out training camp, complete his rehab and be on the 53 man squad.

@Joe … “What spooks Joe is that Scott Smith, the multimedia maven of Buccaneers.com, Twittered out the Bucs are hopeful Beckwith can resume practicing before the regular season starts in early September.”
Nice tidbit Joe (glad you follow Twitter; I gave up a long time ago). Saw yesterday that Bucs had designated Beckwith as ‘active/non-football-injury’ and was hopeful Kendall could start practicing soon. Not so fast it sounds like. As TBBF said though, it’s “Good to be deep at LB.” Hope Beckwith makes it back by season start in any event. Great flexibility & we’ll very likely need him before the season is very far along.

yes we have depth at LB but is it good quality depth?….taylor(glanton) did a decent good but it speaks volumes to either how good KB was to start as a rookie or how poor the talent was at that position….1 injury and we could be in trouble….
hope he comes back fast and at 100%….

I’ve been saying this for awhile now. This franchise has an issue with injuries and health situations more than most teams.
More will continue this season. I figure at least half of our new defensive additions will be injured to some extent before the season starts.
And of course the hamstring injuries….
July 24th, 2018 at 12:37 pm
I’m not sure how surprising this is to anyone else. It was expected due to his injuries that he wasn’t going to be a full-go for training camp. I don’t recall reading reports that stated otherwise.
JR Sweezy was a case of Licht buying a rotten apple (which Licht has a noted free agent history of doing) and the Bucs trying to cover for it. This has nothing to do with the medical staff.

Fortunately, Sam is not the most important position on this defense, and there is decent depth.

Do like New England does..Drop’em like a bad habit. Cold..but this is a business. Nothing personal. We want a WINING business. Not hanger-oners.

He broke his ankle. None of you know the severity so none of you know the timeframe for recovery. Just stop playing Monday morning doctor.
July 24th, 2018 at 3:34 pm
he shattered his ankle you idiot he doesn’t heal in 6 weeks
July 24th, 2018 at 6:25 pm
If he’s a no go through TC then put him on the shelf for the season. Let’s see what this rookie LB Jack Cichy can offer. His highlights film looks promising.

Good thing we have 13 defensive tackles
