Anthony Becht Bails On Bucs’ Radio Network
July 7th, 2018Change is in the air, or more specifically, on the air.
The official Buccaneers radio broadcasts have enjoyed some glory years lately.
First, they’ve been pulling in a new audience since Chucky was launched. Why? Well, when your beloved Bucs too often have an eye on the draft by Halloween, that unglues many fans from the televised game and turns them to the radio so they can perform less painful tasks while still listening to the action.
Also, the glory years have existed because of the quality of the guys firing off the radio analysis. Former tight end Dave Moore is a stud as a color analyst, keeping it real and making Xs and Os understandable for the average JoeBaggaBonuts tuning in. And that raspy-odd voice is engaging.
Of course, Gene Deckerhoff is a Bucs icon, and another ex-tight end, Anthony Becht, has brought a lot of juice and smart insight to the pre- and post-game shows.
Becht, however, is moving on, so he announced on social media this week. He will continue his work for Buccaneers.com, breaking down film, etc.
@anthony_becht – I’ve decided not to continue being co-host for Bucs Pre & Postgame moving forward to pursue other opportunities. I will continue FilmSession & other Bucs content. It’s been an honor working w/
@RonnieNTL,@gened01,@BucSidelineGuy, & Dave Moore the last 6 yrs on@Buccaneers Radio
So who will replace Becht? Warren Sapp would be Joe’s choice, but that’s not going to happen. The NFL may want you to forgive Jameis Winston, but they’re not interested in moving on from Sapp’s alleged sexual harassment at NFL Network and his $600 threesome gone bad.
Now if the Buccaneers turned to Joe or Ira Kaufman, that would be a very wise move.

I enjoyed listening to Becht and his analysis of our Buccaneers. He will definitely be missed. I would love to hear from someone like Brad Culpepper or maybe even Mike Alstott to take over if they expressed interest. Go Bucs!
July 7th, 2018 at 11:58 pm
Becht’s Filmsessions are really good.
Glad to hear he will still be breaking down tape of the Bucs for the fans’ benefit.
Its been some time since I’ve listened to Gene Deckerhoff and the radio crew’s call of a Bucs game. The end of home game blackouts along with the procurement of DVR some years back kind of made listening to the radio call of the game obsolete for me.

IRAAAAAA!!!!
July 8th, 2018 at 12:04 am
Wow, becht is one of the best. Sucks.
July 8th, 2018 at 12:40 am
Thinking the Bucs radio network wants listeners. Culpepper, maybe. Doubt he does that.
Perfect guy outside of Sapp would be Keyshawn, but pretty sure Bucs would want someone to be a company man.
Shaun King would be very good, but Bucs fans would go nuts against him so Bucs likely wouldn’t hire him.
Chris Hovan might be a good fit.

Bucs should probably staff another lawyer in this spot and save some money for future player lawsuits. One Buc Palace is the big tent circus now, Hard Knocks was a year early.
July 8th, 2018 at 1:09 am
D. Brooks maybe? B. Rudd or R, Nece?
July 8th, 2018 at 1:12 am
Brooks wouldn’t be awful. He’s certainly a company man.
Ruud is coaching at Nebraska, isn’t he?
Whatever happened to Ryan Nece? That’s a good call. He currently works football games for the PAC-12 Network.
July 8th, 2018 at 3:49 am
Vincent Jackson?
July 8th, 2018 at 6:45 am
Ucf grad and buc fan from Orlando (season ticket holder)
Yah Barrett Ruud is on Scott frost ‘s coaching staff headed to Nebraska via UCF. Him and frost are good buds and obviously are local Nebraska legends who just went home. Ain’t happening
July 8th, 2018 at 6:47 am
Good call
Vjax would be perfect. I forget if he was well spoken/good interview
July 8th, 2018 at 7:23 am
Steve White knows how to break down a play or two – dont know how he would be live on the radio tho
July 8th, 2018 at 7:25 am
Styles White!
He’d be perfect. Especially with the defense being a focus.
I would say Ira, but isn’t there a boss there who has it out for Joe? I don’t want no friction caused between Joe and the Sage!
July 8th, 2018 at 7:28 am
Sorry, I meant Steve White
July 8th, 2018 at 8:01 am
Steve White would be an excellent choice….he offer’s great insight and analysis
July 8th, 2018 at 8:50 am
Steve White definitely knows his chit. His film breakdowns are amazing!
July 8th, 2018 at 8:52 am
Good luck to Anthony. I enjoyed his work.
Just running down this thread and I see a lot of great candidates.
July 8th, 2018 at 9:17 am
Where is a-train or caddy or hell even tho he does other chit I would love it if Brad culpepper would come aboard! Watch old tape, Brad was funny as hell!
July 8th, 2018 at 9:54 am
Steve White might be too good. Don’t think he’d be so open to biting his tongue.
For those asking for Alston, have you ever heard the guy on radio??? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
July 8th, 2018 at 10:36 am
No offense, but the Bucs need someone with experience in playing the game, not a re-hashed talking head. Best is an ex-Buc. Perfect is a guy who is in the Ring of Honer WITHOUT any crimes or something to alienate half the fan base as is.
July 8th, 2018 at 10:37 am
All of Joe’s suggestions (except Sapp) probably would be good. Cadillac Williams too perhaps?
July 8th, 2018 at 10:44 am
No offense, but I have been getting sick of Becht for awhile now. The dude was entirely too predictable.
Yes, Brad Culpepper would be a great catch, if we can persuade him to stop chasing ambulances in Tampa long enough.
Booger would have been great too, but he is spoken for.
How about Dave Moore maybe ?
July 8th, 2018 at 10:54 am
OMG. Sapp would be MUST SEE TV!
July 8th, 2018 at 12:00 pm
Great guy but he’d have to take some lessons before he’d be ready.
July 8th, 2018 at 12:03 pm
He already works for the Buccaneers Radio Network (ahem). 🙁
July 8th, 2018 at 2:12 pm
Kieth MCcants
July 8th, 2018 at 2:31 pm
Ian Beckles too opinionated?
July 8th, 2018 at 3:27 pm
Simeon Rice
July 8th, 2018 at 4:12 pm
Dekerhoff blows. I know y’all disagree but it’s just true.
July 8th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Bect I liked. His breakdowns were very well spoken.
And yes Joe, many many times I choose to listen to the game on the radio while doing yard work or firing up the grill. The Buccaneers are just unbearable to watch sometimes. And I am too old to rage about it anymore.
July 8th, 2018 at 6:56 pm
I am guessing Michael Clayton will get the gig, but we will see.
July 8th, 2018 at 8:17 pm
Forgot about Beckles. He could be in the running, but you are right. He’d have to tone things down (especially his GMC rants).
July 8th, 2018 at 8:19 pm
Holy smokes! Joe has nothing against Clayton at all but he is one of the most hated Bucs players in the post-Bucs Super Bowl era. Surely the folks doing the hiring must know this. Clayton could be very good (honestly) but if few are listening, what’s the point?
Dominik would be excellent but again, see previous paragraph.
July 8th, 2018 at 8:22 pm
>>> Dekerhoff blows. I know y’all disagree but it’s just true. <<<
LOVE his voice but G*d damn he cannot read uniform numbers for shiite.
July 9th, 2018 at 12:04 am
Deckerhoff is a legend. Nfl network and inside the nfl always use his calls to promote highlights. EA sports have always used his voice for the PA announcer for their video games ie madden/ncaa football. Again i see tampa fans on here writing nonsense stating gene sucks. Another example of Tampa having the most idiotic fans.
July 9th, 2018 at 6:37 am
Joe Said:
[Dave Moore]… already works for the Buccaneers Radio Network (ahem).
During commercial he can run the gauntlet onto the field. Plenty of time to change his tie.
LOL @ change tie. I forgot this was radio.
July 9th, 2018 at 6:47 am
@webster
Man, growing up in New Port Rickety (inside the blackout radius), our family spent many a day or night listening to Deckerhoff, while fighting to keep that weak radio signal tuned in. Picture 2 kids, one each with an end of that stupid stereo antenna wire. Moving back-and-forth trying to hear over the intermittent static. Night games were the worst–AM radio sucks after the sun goes down.
Anyway, his voice feels like a part of the family. I would advocate for his name in the Ring of Honor, actually.
Often, after the Seminoles won exciting games, it sounded like old Gene was drinking his lunch in the pressbox. 🙂

Hire Sapp and include some..Pay for view ladies as a side bonus for him!!
