Mike Evans Underrated
July 11th, 2018How does Mike Evans rank against some of the top receivers in the game?
Joe concedes Evans is not Antonio Brown or Julio Jones, though Evans isn’t hurt nearly as often as Jones is. For Joe, Evans is easily a top-10 receiver and maybe even a top-five receiver in the NFL.
But spreadsheeter Mike Clay isn’t fully on board with that. Typing for BSPN, clay decided to rank all No. 1 receivers in the NFL and Evans comes in at No. 10.
Projected target share: 25 percent. Evans has been a workhorse since entering the league in 2014. He has been on the field for 87 percent of the team’s pass plays, and 26 percent of the targets have gone his direction. His 571 career targets are fifth-most in the league during his career. Evans is still in his prime and holds a big edge over No. 2 DeSean Jackson on the depth chart.
You know why Evans should be significantly higher on Clay’s list? It’s because the dude is so money.
As Chase Stuart of FootballPerspective.com points out, all Evans catches last season on third and/or fourth down were completed for first downs.
Dude is a chains-mover.

I think we don’t pass it to him enough
July 11th, 2018 at 12:09 am
Is he great?????…… I dunno
He is good thats for sure
I wonder how he would be with a top 10 QB with a running game???

More importantly and no doubt more credible, Madden 19 has him ranked number 11, 3rd best in the division, with a 89 overall rating. Get those yac up and maybe he’ll break the 90 mark. He should be at least a 93 imo.

So we are basing a player’s stock not on what he does on the field, not by statgeeks, but by a video game???!!!
Time for Joe to head back to the bar.

I think he is good, with a chance for great. He has seemed to mature a bit, and shake off his constant looking for a flag all the time when he doesn’t catch the ball. His size and strength is his biggest atttribute, not always fighting for the ball is/was a concern. If he is #10, he is being wasted right now on this inconsistent offense, with this current coaching staff and of course mediocre QB play.
Just imagine him with a 10 QB as Destination Johnny mentioned.

If he had a top 20 qb he would be awesome

Bucs will ball out this year!! Fire the cannons!! GO BUCS!!

When you take into account that many of Jameis’s throws are often in tight windows,Evans ability to secure the ball is a great asset.Evans has only fumbled the ball twice in his four year career. Never thought about it but it might be the reason may Evans often hits the ground after the catch. Because as Joe pointed
out Evans is pretty damn good at moving the Chains. As a comparison in their 7 years in the league Julio Jones and Antonio Brown have 8 and 7 fumbles respectively. To Jones credit ,he has been fumble free the last two years.

Get rid of DJax.
Funny how Winston has no problems connecting with Evans, Humphries, Godwin, or Brate. Even his chemistry with OJ got better through the season.
But with DJax he is inconsistent? That’s not the QB. It is the WR. They need to stop worrying about getting the diva mad and throw to the best targets.

@ Db55 A video game??? I read your posts and chalk them up to the pessimist side of things which I appreciate but a video game being your credible source here?? Your stock just plummeted in my books. Lol madden rankings!

He’s Top 5….his numbers would be as good or even better with any other QB in the league…..however there’s only a handful at best that would keep their production high if they played in Tampa with 4 different QBs in 4 yrs. He’s produced with McCown, Glennon, Winston, Fitzpatrick…….ALL of them are middle of the road starters…..at best. Three of them are career back ups.
July 11th, 2018 at 8:15 am
Antonio brown clearly 1
Obj and Julio 2 but injury problems.
Mike Evans right In that next slot. Does Jameis force throws to him. YEs. But mike is open every play with his size and quicks. Need to put ball to him in better spots.
Top 5

I don’t think he’s any different in mike williams in that he’s the only guy the qb gives attention too. kind of like just about all our suppossed great recievers. not so much their great, rather the ball wasn’t/isn’t spread around enough.

Bonzai don’t agree Jameis also needed an extra year to develope chemistry
with Evans on the deep ball. Go back and review some of the last games of 2016. As I recall there were 8 Go routes that sailed past Evans. At this time I don’t believe the go route is his strength. Now in Jameis’s defense he did hit Evans for 4 passes for 99 yards, most were toward the middle of the field
in the one of the panther games.

No way. Evans is great with a chance to be elite.
You guys are outside of your minds if you disagree. This Jameis thing has got everyone disrespecting us. Imo it’s far better for our team to go into the season as dogs instead of Cinderellas like last year.
Keep hearing. They’re going to be wrong about everything.

Hating***

I’ll just leave this here.
Going back to 2004, “Madden” is 10-for-14 in picking the Super Bowl winner. On multiple occasions, it has done so with the precise margin of victory or even the exact final score.
July 11th, 2018 at 10:37 am
If he had Rogers or Tom B throwing to him…..
He would be top 4
As it stands top 10

Agree with Pete about ME’s clear talent. In fact that’s why I struggle to get real worked up over ME stories.
He’s money. Of all the players you worry about least doesn’t ME top the list?
I don’t even know who would come in second behind him.

Get the run game going strong and Evans will blow up along with the rest.
