Not so fast.
Joe isn’t the only one that believes Jameis will be with the Bucs, at least for 2018.
It seems, so too does Albert Breer of theMMQB.com. Writing for his website, in so many words, Breer says the Bucs have way too much invested in Jameis to just toss him aside like yesterday’s newspaper (remember those?)
Things aren’t all bad with Winston. Last night, one coach told me that he’s been a “stud” as a teammate and a worker the last few years. He’s absolutely a leader there, and is dedicated to football, and has shown potential. So it’s easy to sit here today, in the wake of this news, and say “cut the cord.” Given how difficult it is to find a franchise quarterback, and the work the Bucs have put in with Winston, it’d be a lot hard to actually do it.
This is basically what Joe wrote Sunday. Jameis is the type of thrilling quarterback Team Glazer has lusted for long before Chucky was jettisoned in January 2009. In fact, Chucky was launched, in part, because he ignored Team Glazer’s many pleas to draft and develop a quarterback.
Leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman went mental. Jameis has shown flashes he could be great and has the stats to show he is among one of the NFL’s best young quarterbacks.
As long as Team Glazer has wanted a franchise quarterback, and now that they have one, Joe cannot see Team Glazer getting rid of Jameis that easily. When, if ever, has Team Glazer succumbed to public pressure, except when they fired Chucky?
Joe will once again note the squeaky clean Rooney clan didn’t cut ties with Ben Roethlisberger. When is the last time anyone ever brought up his bathroom incident?

I really dont care what they did or dldn’t do,to Ben R or anybody else. What I care about is our own team’s problems.
I can take a lot of things but disrespecting women by putting your hands on them and lieing about it isnt one of them and I dont care if your name is Jamis Winston or not.

Have the Glazers done anything good since their dad died? We’ve been in the basement of our division forever. They are garbage. JW is garbage so I guess we’ll turn RJS into a waste collection depot.

Hey Joe’s what is your definition of a “Franchise Quarterback” is it a guy who takes a team over the top to he playoffs? Is it a guy who gets better year after year? Please explain to us readers of your blog your definition of a “Franchise Quarterback” because this reader of your blog along with others are unsure of your definition of the term. Thanks

Besides, if the glazers have invested so much in this guy, don’t you think they would have seen some red flags early???
Or maybe the glazers judgement is completely off.
Wouldn’t be the first time they made a horrible decision and stuck by it with a mediocre justification.

He may be here in 2018 and 2019 but will he be any better at accuracy, turnovers and character issues. If not the the investment was a bad one. So far he hasn’t gotten better in 3 years and only “flashes he could be great” well Joe he has also shown flashes he won’t be great too. Very discouraging way to start the season.

If he’s “honest” now, wouldn’t it be just because he got caught? Even then it’s an iffy proposition. But I’m still waiting for his press conference so I can see for myself.

I have been a Jameis skeptic since the Bucs drafted him. Yes he had high potential but his immaturity seemed to be off the charts. I have been disappointed in his development. I haven’t seen him making his teammates better by his own greatness (as Joe assured us he would). I was hoping through the adversity of last year (injury, benching?) he would grow up, then came the N.O. game.
Still, I don’t see a better option out there. As a Bucs fan, I just have to hope we see the growth on and off the field we have been hoping for. What’s another couple of years?
Sign him to a short term (rehabilitation), team friendly contract and let him prove he is the guy. If not, cut ties and move on.
