Team Glazer And Pulse Of The Fans

“Our fans are our stockholders. They’re what we play for — the people in our stadium and the ones that watch on TV. That’s what it’s all about: winning and how they feel about the team. If they don’t feel good about the team, then there’s something wrong. . . I think you all know the sense that’s out there. It was time for a change.” Team Glazer, following the firing of Jon Gruden in January 2009.
In the past week, Joe chatted with a Buccaneers official about the team’s great focus on steadily increasing value for Buccaneers season pass members. That kind of stuff matters greatly to a Bucs team that consistently wins the NFL’s Super Bowl of awards for customer service and satisfaction.
Today, that very same team has a quarterback, a face of a franchise, that legions of fans believe is a habitual sexual deviant when it comes to his treatment of women.
Fair or not. That’s the reality. And it sure doesn’t help that Jameis Winston has a convicted rapist now saying he was with Jameis and was an eyewitness to alleged unruly behavior by Jameis on the 2016 night of the Uber ride in question.
So what’s next for Team Glazer? Of course, like the rest of Bucs nation, Team Glazer will wait to see what’s in the NFL’s official report on the Jameis investigation and suspension and how it is presented to the public in a league statement. (That assumes the NFL reveals anything of substance publicly.)
But Team Glazer, after exploring their inner thoughts on Jameis, have to be asking themselves what the pulse of the fans is when it comes to Jameis.
Yes, it matters. It should. Football is supposed to be fun. If too many fans can’t root for the face of the franchise, that’s a serious problem.
It was one thing when Team Glazer signed and re-signed notorious sleaze Jerramy Stevens. (No, Joe is not calling Jameis a sleaze.) Stevens was a role player who made his reputation 3,000 miles away. (His Bucs career ended when he was arrested for dealing drugs.) It’s just different for a quarterback. Fan perception carries more weight.
Joe is confident Team Glazer won’t do anything rash or emotional with Jameis, nor should they. But they will be assessing every element of the situation, and that includes how fans feel about Jameis.
When (if?) Jameis returns to start games for the Bucs, Joe is confident Jameis better start winning. More losing will have nearly everyone searching for the value in the Jameis investment.

Time to let him go. The fact that there is no defamation lawsuit from jameis tells us the woman’s story is at least partially true. I love the kid but there’s no excuse for this.

First, thanks Joe for abandoning the “America’s” crap. Second, you might not be calling Jameis a sleaze, but I can assure you that a huge portion of Buc fans (and an even larger portion of non-Buc fans) are. Finally, if you think that the Kinsman, “FHITP”, and Uber are the only Jameis sexually horrid transgressions are his only transgressions, you’re being silly. You know there’s more to that onion.

I am throwing out my 12 year old sons JW jersey and buying him a different players jersey. this is beyond embarrassing and exactly what I was fearful of happening based on his past at FSU. I always hoped for the best with JW but it did not happen. Bring on Fitzpatrick, get through this season and draft a QB in the spring with a NEW GM. go bucs.

Do we remember Jerramy Stevens? He was the tight end who bamboozled the GM and Glazers about his use of drugs. They stood up for him and were wrong. Let’s assume some things are true…yes, we don’t yet “know.” If indeed Jameis was so bad off a g*ang rap*st recognized Jameis needed to go back to his hotel and he and Darby put Jamies in a cab alone with the woman, this is worse than anyone could have thought. That is, Jameis’s BEST excuse is he was so publicly drunk he didn’t know what he was doing. And that’s his BEST excuse for publicly saying the Uber driver was confused as to number of people in the car and who was sitting where–because he didn’t remember anything. But then again, if he was so drunk, he shouldn’t come out with such conviction to recollect his view of the facts. This is not a “he said, she said.” This is a “they all said, he said” with some of them being who Jameis hang out with. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what Jameis did or didn’t do. But the facts and logic are lining up that in my mind, it seems that he “probably” did what is alleged. How many times do we read about people who commit crimes and family and friends say “That’s not the guy we know?” So to fans and likely to the owners of the Bucs, it looks like the real Jameis is the guy he’s been accused of being before, and on his first period of time since joining the NFL and being on his own outside of team supervision, he’s in the news again for an alleged crime, with a whole bunch of other issues that makes the allegations very plausible. Unless there is some bombshell to the contrary, the very least we have is a guy who got drunk and couldn’t control himself and lied about it and falsely accused the Uber driver and his acquaintance of horrible things. That is the VERY LEAST. And that’s not good at all for the face of an NFL franchise, a guy the owners to a risk on, trusted, and defended. And Jameis is not that good on the field. Time to get Foles in here.

Ok let’s cut Jameis and set the team back anther 3-4 years. The time for winning is now, this is our last chance before the window closes. If we decide to can jameis, we will just have to accept possibly another 2-14 year. And that likely means entirely new coaching staff and a new front office. There’s no way we keep this core and get a new QB. Get readt for 2014 again. Get ready for some losin’!

We all have a huge investment in Jameis…..let’s be patient and see what the Glazers have to say. It is their franchise….they have a great deal on the line.
At the very least they will be able to resign a very good QB for an extremely low price….because there is no team other than the Bucs that will want Winston.

The Bucs should strongly consider suspending Jameis for the year for conduct detrimental to the team- give him time to mature into a husband and father and legitimately repent for his asinine and unacceptable behavior. Turn him into the poster child for rehabilitation. Then, make next year his last shot- setting up a one/done as part of any negotiations on a contract extension. The point is that tossing him outright is a 5 year kick to this franchises nuts. The team needs to tread the needle on doing the right thing (commensurate with his offense) and salvaging their investment in Jameis.
In the meantime, work the phones for a quality starter that can come in here and unseat Fitz and offers us a reasonable chance to be competitive. It’s going to cost us, but we’re staring down a ridiculously huge barrel right now.

Nice touch Realist. Off to the dog pound you go. Accountability is such a nebulous concept in today’s world. Better applied to others than to ourselves.
Everyone needs to chill for awhile. Jameis has a 3-game suspension to start the season. Preseason hasn’t even started yet, so coaches have lots of time to get the T-E-A-M prepared to deal with it. Fitz & Griffin will have plenty of reps in there to get prepped. Tough schedule, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. (Except bears; bears will kill you).
No decisions need to be made right now by anyone. Jameis screwed the pooch (oooh, bad visual), but the Glazers have PLENTY of time to figure out how to move on from here. Until they do, Licht (and Koetter) are sorta kinda in a holding pattern. It’d be nice though if in the meantime all of us could just focus on football & not on crap like this.

Thank you for reviving that 2009 comment from Team Glazer, Joe. I just don’t remember the fan base clamoring for Gruden to be fired, certainly not on the level of fans calling for JW (or even Koetter) to be let go now. Cutting bait on Gruden was a shock to all of us and, yes, one of the biggest mistakes in Bucs franchise history. That decision was on the Glazers, and it shows how utterly out of touch with fans they were/are. That’s why I just don’t have the same level of confidence in Team Glazer. They (over)reward mediocrity and undervalue competence, and you don’t have to go back to the obscure Jerramy Stevens. We have now three first round draft picks (JW, Free, and Martin) that have had off the field issues and numerous good football players that the team has let go as evidence of this. And, this runs up and down the organization. Team Glazer did not pick the players, but they picked the people who picked the players. We, the fans, have nothing to do with these decisions.

@Defenserules…great point of view…funny too. I gotta disagree on one point…that GM and HC are in a holding pattern. I think they are en route on the flight to make sure the bear doesn’t get a chance to kill them. If they don’t try to demonstrate the Bucs are moving on from Jameis (the lying on the facts aside from the allegations, which seem more plausible now, is enough), this will dog them all year. It will kill PR and fan support. Better to make Jameis a footnote now and not Chapter 1, much less not the title of the book. I think they are very much looking at a way to salvage the season and make this go away at the same time.

The Bucs fans need to send the Glazers a real message that they/we will not put up with this crap. Having a person like Winston as the face of the franchise that many long time Bucs fans who have loved and supported for decades, is totally insulting and humiliating.
I for one will not be buying my season tickets or even attending a Bucs game as long as Winston is on the roster. I may sound a little crass, but you can bet that a very large portion of the Bucs fan base feels exactly the same way. We hold the Bucs to a higher standard than this

If the Glazers are smart, they’ll realize that this entire thing is being blown out of proportion. And considering how well Jameis plays in the coming season, which he certainly will be playing you can bet on that right now, they can use this whole situation as bargaining power in order to sign Jameis to a less expensive contract.
But leave it to Bucs fans (who probably weren’t Jameis supporters to begin with) to want to exile a kid for a mistake he may or may not have made while allegedly intoxicated as a 22 year old. Despite him clearly being the best QB we’ve ever had since Doug Williams.
The Glazers should not capitulate to the demands of hyper sensitive individuals who are apparently perfect citizens, that have never made a mistake in their life, and are much to quick to judge others.

If….IF…the Bucs offer Jameis a long term contract I am sure it will have escape clauses like no other ever written for a NFL player…tilted 100% in favor of the Bucs….maybe with the signing bonus money at the last year of the contract or perhaps up front in an escrow account until his contract plays out with a clean NFL rap sheet ….this is a very disturbing problem with Jameis’s behavior pattern….he still hasn’t not proved to be an elite NFL QB despite what the Stat Carriers type…nobody has actually seen the NFL report yet….

A few thoughts (sometimes contradictory)
1. I believe the accuser now. If he lied about being alone with her and had his “boys” back him up that’s inexcusable. Pains me to say now I didn’t really believe her before
2. Strange timing from the supposed third passenger. Never came forward until the suspension was announced? Was he angling for a payoff that didn’t come? Is he now telling the truth?
3. If Darby lied on his behalf this time, it leads me to believe he lied the first time about the on-campus assault. It happened. Neither Jameis nor Darby deserve the benefit of any doubt if that’s the case.
4. This happened in the off-season in 2016. He would have been 22 and in his first offseason. A little context for whether or not this constitutes a recent pattern of behavior warranting dismissal from the team. Yes he continued to lie to them. That’s inexcusable. Whether that should mean dismissal or maybe lengthy team suspension i’m not sure but he’s still very talented and very young and someone will sign him if we cut him. I’m thinking he has to sit (suspended for several games) and atone off the field. Counseling or something of the sort made mandatory. He’s shown he wants to be a good guy and a difference maker and we’ve all done stupid crap at 22. What has he done since and what’s his personal trajectory? I think better than it was at that point in his life and we shouldn’t throw him away. But he needs to atone and do some serious public apologies to fans, the team, and the victims.
5. He’ll never be America’s Quarterback. Maybe years and years from now after making serious and lasting changes to his life and perhaps winning several SB’s, but even then it’s no guarantee. For now the name should be retired and not hang over him like a sarcastic compliment.

He and the titans were gifted that game from the refs and got extremely lucky. Mariotas td pass to himself was thrown into triple coverage and bounce of a couple defenders. That’s not exactly a skill based play. And he also got stripped sacked and the refs over turned it for seemingly no reason at all, and the Cheifs would have won if they didn’t.

Not saying he didn’t do it…but…this sentence was not determined in a court of law, it was determined by an agency that is devoid of specificity and is supremely concerned about its reputation. This is a “he said, she said” scenario, and Jameis has little to no reasonable doubt equity in the public forum (his own fault). He is – and will be for some time – behind the proverbial eight-ball for transgressions committed by a twenty-year old. I’m not saying that is a defense of his behavior, but if we were all shackled to our actions at that age for the rest of our lives…life would be inauspicious at best. It seems that most of you are ready to burn him at the stake; why don’t we give the kid a chance to redeem himself (as a person, not a quarterback)? Don’t get me wrong…this pisses me off as a devout fan, but he is, at the end of the day, a stupid kid. And stupid kids do stupid (crap).

We don’t have a limited window in which we can be a good/great team.
Licht has done a good job drafting talent.
Find a decent QB and plug and play.
Watch Fitzpatrick have no problem stepping in and finding that elusive “chemistry” with DJax and the rest of our ultra talented WRs.

Further… If he was one of the O or D lineman, or a less visible position, or lower paid position, you might be willing to just wait a couple years and see if he is habitually unstable. But as the Franchise QB? The most important and highest paid position on the team? How many years do you want to wait to see if he can grow up and fly right? I guarantee that though you and many like you might not care what he does as long as he wins games, the Comish won’t look at it like that way. The game has enough problems…and it doesn’t need a habitual sexual assaulter as the face of any of its’ franchises. Putting Jameis aside however…….Doosh! We are in agreement.
This team is not set back any time invested in Jameis…we sucked and would have no matter who had played Q.B.
I absolutely concede that QB is THE most important position on the team…but it’s FAR from the ONLY position!!!
We could bring up examples like Bradys suspension not hurting the Pats or the story of Nick Foles last year taking Wentz’s place and making the SB.
We have as talented a group of pass targets as there is in the NFL.
We have an improved and I believe “decent” OL
If our revamped DL is as good on the field as it is in paper..if one of our new drafted DB’s comes through and can start…
If ROJO and Barber give us an actual running game…
We can still win games….oh and btw without those things #3 might steal a game or two but we’d still suck. Yes QB is critical and Jameis is the best of those still on our squad…but the team has changed and maybe we just need a decent QB and not a savior.

Glazers aren’t known for making hasty decisions (most billionaires aren’t I’d bet). Jameis already represents a massive investment on their part (#1 player taken in the 2015 draft?) AND he’s got a boatload of talent (and experience now). Chucking that overboard (prematurely) isn’t a wise business move on their part.

This sucks. I want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but then I look at his history it gets harder to defend this idiot. And that’s what he is at the very least is an idiot. I know he’s been an amazing team mate, but he’s the face of this franchise and could be for the next 10-15 years. I just don’t get the feeling that he’ll stay out of trouble moving forward. I wish I could, but I just don’t see it.
This year will be a defining year for him and this coaching staff.

I am glad that I am not emotionally invested in the Bucs anymore. I popped in just to catch up on what is going on because at this point, I don’t even keep up with the NFL. Naturally as a Tampa native, I hate to see our city embarrassed and unfortunately that has been the case with the Bucs for a while and Winston was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I at this point sadly think that it is time to have to look for a franchise QB again due to the dark cloud over Winston and the fact the he can’t hit the broadside of a barn. I really wanted Jameis to be the answer long term to our QB position but it was a failed endeavor. I believe in forgiveness but there are consequences for that behavior which happen regardless of forgiveness.
He needs therapy for his problem and maybe try the MLB as a pitcher. He just isn’t ever going to be a star QB like the past QB’s that struggled here and went on to have success elsewhere because he is far too inaccurate with his passes, makes poor decisions on and off the field and finally because you can’t grasp a football if you eat your fingers. 😂

The facts related to this case have not been disclosed….. Therefore, I think it is wrong to state assumptions or reach conclusions without strong evidence.
Why was this alleged sexual misconduct never reported to law enforcement? My feelings are; lets allow the NFL to release their final report and give the Glazers and the Team Administrative Staff the opportunity to release a public statement, once they have the official findings and concluding communication from the NFL…
Jameis does have a 27 month stretch since this alleged occurrence that displays maturity, growth and the desire to fit the off field community expectations of a franchise OB…. In the absence of facts I choose not to judge in the matter.

I bet any money you have never been a season ticket holder and I seriously doubt you attend many games except to maybe root for your hometown northern team. We (true Buc fans) don’t want your ass or the other pansy ass fans in our stadium anyhow.

This close to the season all I can say is… Lets Go Bucs! Everything else is just a temporary diversion waiting to see how our team competes. Or with the Bucs getting the blood boiling.

Screw the fans. It was not assault. The media is blowing it out of proportion.
Before the news leaked out, people knew a suspension was coming. They accepted it because regardless of guilt or innocence, it was coming. But now that the shoe has dropped, fans are letting national media convince them differently?

say…remember a few months back When Warren Sapp was accused my a # Me Two’er…and flat out in Sapp style….called the story BS….well one would think if Jameis was clean….that would have been his response instead of concocking a tail of lies….which is what he is in NFL hell for….Jameis has lost all credibility….I have no time or compassion for thieves or liars….and it seems Jameis is a lair

I think the most frustrating part to all of this is the incident by itself…..embarrassing but certainly not the worst thing in the world.
Winston had an opportunity to nip this in the bud and he literally turned a molehill into a mountain. Folks love to say how smart Winston is in football….how he was accepted to Stanford….To me this isnt him being an idiot, this is Winston being a very calculated individual that is on the borderline of being described as a predator. He painted a very elaborate scenario of how the Uber driver was confused, there were other riders, etc….Now his entire story looks like garbage so this idea that he’s being framed isnt realistic. Winston has a side to him that uses his charisma to do or get away with bad things…..That goes beyond a person that just screwed up, its a very disturbing trait that the team is going to have a hard time handing a big contract to.
My guess….he’ll stick around but we’ll be drafting a QB soon or trading for one. We can always tag him for a few years while we groom someone….and if we start winning….as the saying goes, winning fixes a lot. Right now though, i cant imagine what management must be thinking….I would imagine they are livid.

In the end if he only gets 3 games or less and is allowed to move on he will continue to be the quarterback. This is why fans are fans and think they have more control than they have.
Stop worshiping athletes and you’ll never be disappointed there are everyday people like you and me that make a lot of money and are in the spotlight. Actors and athletes aren’t worth the stress. Outraged by kneeling for the anthem and all that nonsense is a waste….
If you like football watch football stop worrying about who they are and a person. Doing community work is part of their responsibility but in the end they are only here to make money. I’ll be a buc fan regardless of the players and coaches on the roster

Let us examine this
1) Jameis groped an uber driver while intoxicated.
2) He lied about the details
first, who here would not of done the exact same thing if they had big nuf balls? second–of course he probably lied–who wouldn’t lie–maybe he even thought it would work
It didn’t work–ok so what–makes Jameis look bad, probably will amount in millions lost on future contract–good for Bucs then and the team. The kid is human but he needs help so as not to have this happen again–security 24/7 needs to go along everywhere that JW goes.
