“On Top Of Being Very Consistent”
June 20th, 2018The brewing competition and challenge for playcaller head coach Dirk Koetter will be fascinating this season.
And the game is being ramped up by Koetter himself.
Koetter is among the legions of players, coaches and suits at One Buc Palace eager to sing the praises of receiver Chris Godwin. And it’s not just what they say; it’s how they say it.
Godwin, based on everything Joe’s heard and been told, is now considered the ultimate prototype Buccaneer.
So what about playing time? Well, that’s Koetter’s challenge. He’s flat out loaded with pass catchers and if Koetter can’t figure out how to maximize them, that’s not on the general manager.
This brings Joe to the superior FOX-13 video feature below on Godwin. It includes his sick highlight-reel catch in traffic this month, and Koetter explaining how Godwin combines spectacular in practice with being consistent. Joe hasn’t heard Koetter describe any other receiver like this.
Enjoy!

Message for Jameis Winston – please scan the field and take what the defense gives you. Someone should be open, if not, throw it away or eat it. You should not have to win games on your own. Hand the rock off or find the open receiver. Arm strength isn’t everything and only gets you so far. That is all.

That’s a great video piece. Thanks for sharing Joe.
Glad to hear that Godwin is doing what he can to help out Justin Watson. I hope Mike Evans is doing the same.
It would be awesome for the Bucs “embarrassment of riches” at WR to continue beyond the short time Djax is with this team.
The Bucs had super high hopes for Watson but right out of the gate he missed a good bit of field time through OTAs with an injury so is now a bit behind and can probably use all the extra help he can get.
Godwin’s “development” in 1 year’s time – is like that of a 4th or 5th year veteran. Its kind of crazy because he didn’t even get that much regular season game field time in his rookie year. Yet everyone knows Chris is literally going to blow up this year with whatever playing time he gets. He’s getting MAD respect from EVERYONE inside OBP.
Chris Godwin IS the new prototypical “Buccaneer Man”.
I can’t wait to see his career unfold….

“I love watching Godwin run down the field on kick returns”
Klueless Koetter
“Having Hump starting and having more targets that Godwin is worst sin than adultery”

Slow down there boys, last year on Hard Knocks Koetter said to Jameis
“Now you have a good defense so you don’t have to force things.”
The result of that “good defense” was the worst defense in the NFL.
Also I implore you guys go watch some highlights of some of our games from last year and please take note of the notable gasps from the color commentators of how open WR’s were vs us or how easily a running back ripped off a 10-20 yard on us. Time and time again you hear a quite, whoa, or gosh, or wow, or uhhhhh. That should tell you all you need to know about how awful it was and then think back to that quote from Koetter to Jameis. So before we start suggestion Jameis never take chances with the ball lets see if our defense a stiff breeze this year.

I’m calling it now. If we’re as good as I think we’re gonna be this season, the league will be put on notice. Those 3 secondary picks we’re huge. Those are the kind of guys you build a D around. Whitehead is a bada$$. The other two are cocky and guick. With Evans showing what time it is last season, the back end, with any kind of pass rush, will be spectacular. Jameis, Rojo and Barber will eat the clock all game. That alone will open up the passing game to damn near unstoppable. We are freakin loaded. I think Monken will use the hurry up a lot more. That would kill opponents. JW, just drive this Ferrari. It’s all gonna open up for you this season. ’74 Bucfan said it right. You got this, kid. Everyone’s got your back. They built you a team. Be a surgeon. Someone will be open. Evans, Djax, Godwin and OJ should be on the field all the time. With Brate in as well. Ball control offense, and the tools to score quick as well. Defense will set the tone. If as solid as I think, we should get quite a few more possessions. Points on the board. Yea, I’m calling it.

Godwin drew praise all last offseason as well, then Dirk started Hump in front of him and made Godwin the 4th WR. Offseason hype means nothing, although with that said the team certainly saw enough of Godwin to be excited about his future and to have him slide in as a starter after D-Jax leaves.
