Still Groceries To Shop

Fit for Bucs?

Though it is late in the NFL calendar, if the Bucs are inclined, there is still a player on the free agent market that could help them.

That’s the word from Terez Paylor of Yahoo! Sports. He looked at players who he hears are rumored to have interested teams, and potential fits, to see if they can find jobs between now and training camp next month.

Paylor seems to think that free agent safety Ron Parker, who was last with the Chiefs, should be on the radar of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Age: 30
Years pro: Eight
Stats: 67 tackles, four passes defensed and two interceptions in 15 games
Analysis: Parker’s stats don’t jump off the table, but I watched him last year as he served as the most consistent member of the Chiefs’ secondary, perhaps more than mercurial cornerback Marcus Peters. Parker’s ball production was down because he spent more time in the box after Eric Berry was lost for the season in the opener. He’s an up-and-down tackler, but he emerged as a respected locker room voice last season and someone who can help a team if it allows him to get back to doing what he does best, which is playing deep portions of the field in coverage.

Paylor has the Bucs listed along with Dallas and Miami as Parker’s potential landing spots.

The thing that intrigues Joe about this move is that last season, Paylor was the Chiefs beat reporter for the Kansas City Star, and a damned good one at that. So Paylor speaks with authority about Parker.

It sure seems like safety is a position no longer valued much by NFL teams. That could be why the Bucs didn’t go get a safety during free agency.

And no, despite the #ConteHate that flourishes in the greater Tampa area, Joe is not that convinced he’s the next Sabby the Goat.

Man, things are slow this time of year……I guess we could use another Safety but we drafted one…..and, of course we have Conte….(thought that may stir some things up)

let me be the first to say… nah!

  3. Lucious Selmon Says:

Every single member of the Buccaneers’ secondary will look marvelously improved this season over last year.

Because pass rush. Because gap integrity. Because outside containment. Because linebackers running free.

Our new DL and DL coach make the whole defense respectable again.

  4. Lucious Selmon Says:

Therefore, we do not need free agent safeties or cornerbacks.

  5. Lamarcus Says:

    Tj Ward 2.0.

Just be another taking quality snaps away

Love the title Joe … ‘Still Groceries to Shop?’ Now could you please tell Licht that we still need OLine upgrades & better depth. Oh, and could a veteran outside corner … just in case.

    @waterboy

Yes he is, but just by a little, which means he is average!!!!! But he would not have 1/3 to 1/2 the fans revolt and boycott if signed!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Andrew Says:

We’re full of free safeties. We need a strong safety.

  13. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Maybe Smith signs him like they did Weedwhacker Ward and sits Tandy again and goes 5 & 11 one more season. Then just maybe the Glazers will send his ass packing. I want to win this year man. We got what we need just put the best 11 on the field and I betcha the Bucs are in the hunt in the end!!!!! I may be wrong but I may not!!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We don’t need him, but so far as shopping, it would have to be shoplifting at this point, unless money is freed up.

  15. Destinjohnny Says:

    When u don’t draft well….

  16. BringBucsBack Says:

    Veteran CB, plz.

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

Keep shopping. Safety is not a need. We need OL depth along with a veteran corner more than a safety.

  21. __TGH__ Says:

Based on the previous article you wrote about cap space, this doesn’t seem to make much sense because we drafted a safety.

We need another Guard! Who is the starting RG right now??? The hurt guy or the backup?

  22. Pickgrin Says:

Bucs aren’t bringing in another free safety – SMH
