Curry Not Worried About JPP

Expected this week.
It seems some Bucs fans are wringing their hands fretting that yet another few-sacks season is on its way.
The Bucs seemed to have done a lot to prevent this. Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht went on a binge this offseason and acquired five new defensive linemen, including two ends, by free agency, trade and the draft. One of those is defensive end, veteran Jason Pierre-Paul.
Every player on the Bucs roster showed up and participated in at least some OTA practices. All but JPP. This has Bucs fans nervous.
Vinny Curry, one of those free agent defensive ends Licht signed, isn’t worried at all. He told Jenna Laine of ESPN Bucs fans need not sweat over JPP.
“Naw, especially a guy like him,” Curry said. “You’ve gotta think about it — respect isn’t given, it’s earned, and his résumé speaks for itself,” said Curry. “So you know a guy that’s been in the league at the top of the mountain for 95 percent of his career — 5 percent due to injury — so you already know what he’s bringing, how he’s coming.”
And Curry saw this first-hand as both he and JPP were NFC East division rivals. They saw each other twice a year.
No one with the Bucs that Joe has talked to is losing sleep that JPP didn’t participate in OTAs. He was in the building, Koetter confirmed. And like Koetter said, in a perfect world, there would be 100 percent attendance. The world isn’t perfect.

It’s really silly how fans get upset over something so trivial as voluntary workouts. JPP has earned is stripes.

No…if he’s not injured, he needs to be out there. Sadly, looks like Koetter is already hedging if he discounted the importance of it. Swaggy Pierre-Paul.

DJax also had earned his strips before last season. It didn’t work out as well as expected. NOW he appears to be putting in the OTA effort that working folks would have given and expected last year! Another Bucs’ epiphany!
This kind of stuff is only trivial to the Steelers and Belicheats. We are Bucs’ fans and have drowned ourselves in the Kool-Aid over all of these years! Everything matters because, nothing seems to work here in the Bucment (the basement built, maintained and occupied by our time-bandit Bucs).

Regardless if Curry is right or not, you couldn’t expect him to say something different. This is meaningless. Curry and Allen came here right after winning a ring and both are jelling and grinding as they should. JPP was TRADED. This is a different scenario and no one can tell how motivated JPP is. Bucs fans have shuch a short memory. 90% of the FA we got in recent years were meh at best.

Give me break huh. New guy in a on a new team. No reason why he shouldn’t be out there getting reps in to benefit him and the team cuz after all he is new is he not. Fkt just skip the preseason too just show up week one. Matter of fact why don’t the whole team just skip it. I mean sht why not what’s the point it’s not gonna benefit us we don’t need to get better I mean we got the south on lock. Smdh

The question is he “not all in” or is he hiding an injury???????? He should have been on the sidelines listening and taking mental reps and learning how all the coaches prefer their tasks to get accomplished!!!!!!!!
So much for the ” table has been set”!!!!! It is still a work in progress sheep!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll reserve judgement until I see him play but voluntary or not it still doesn’t sit well….I would have at least like to have seen him there on the sidelines….but that would have raised all sorts of concern also.
You won’t see Joe’s lounge singer skipping OTAs…..or, how about Jameis?…..not happening.

This whole thing will be quiet if the bucs win game 1 and JPP harasses brees all day….HOWEVER, if brees lights this team up for a 4 td, keep the uniform clean Sunday…ol licht and his personnel moves

Its done….doesn’t matter much at this point. I dont think being ready is the concern but he did get somewhat blindsided by the trade and that’s something to keep an eye on.

Most Giant fans will tell you, JPP peaked in 2011 and got his hand hurt and was never the same. He has been an up and down player in his career and hurt.
I am just saying its a mistake to treat JPP as the second coming of Reggie White. Coach K pandering to this guy is a mistake similar to the mistakes made with Swaggy. He should have done a Belicheck and said I only care about the guys that are at OTAs. I hope he gets the Buck treatment. We do not need any divas on this team.

That is my problem!!!! Joe and the sheep only see that the Bucs traded for the double digit sack pro-bowler and say the offseason was saved and the table is set!!!!!!!! When in reality the Bucs traded and got the guy who has averaged 6 sacks the last 3 years!!!!!!!!!!

Voluntary ota’s are over what a fan thinks he should be doing. Mandatory mini camp is here so obviously is he doesn’t show up for that there’s an issue.

Remember when Coughlin (sp?) fined some of his players because they were not five minutes EARLY to a meeting and said that they were late? This is what the “he should be here” crowd means. It’s a non-mandatory OTA; that means it’s mandatory!
Coughlin was trying to instill discipline and dedication. How did it work out? Remember Strahan, and others, initially hated Coughlin and thought he was a jerk? When the winning returned Strahan said he loved Coughlin. Now Coughlin is building a winner up in Jville the same way, with discipline and commitment!
Who else was missing from NON-mandatory OTAs? Who in Jville was missing from NON-mandatory OTAs?

Realist- Not for nothing, but 6 sacks is 6 more than Gholston and 5 more than the “Beastly” Ayers. We’ve gotten virtually zero production from our ends over the last few years. It’s an upgrade.

The guy played an incredible amount of snaps last year. Rare athlete. He’ll be ready. And he was traded, not signed. Might have had a schedule away already set whereas a new signee may know it’s appropriate to be there for voluntary to earn that new payday. JPP is the least of my worries.

I see dirk hasn’t learned anything from last year….still soft as hell…..still letting the players run the show…..SMDH

There very well could be an undisclosed injury he is rehabbing. Don’t think he’s the type to just sit out but can’t say for sure.

Ramsey and Fournette are two of the big name players who’ve missed non voluntary OTAs for the Jags this offseason.
JPP will be fine he’s known for being a true pro in every sense of the word unlike Swaggy. I do understand Buc fans concern after getting poor efforts from Johnson and baker. I don’t see any of those guys in the free agent group.

Since they were “voluntarily “ or “non-mandatory” , i’d Like to know just what, exactly, you think Coach K is ‘spose To do about it? He, just like every other Coach, has to follow the contract. Retaliation, in any way, for not ‘volunteering ‘ is against that contract. While rookies might be intimidated by a tough talking a$$hole, anyone who has experience won’t. I see it every quarter in my own job, where many of my fellows refuse to participate in a 16 day that ends in a 4 hour meeting full of bullspit that I attend for the overtime. The new kids, scared of management, and those who want the overtime, attend & everyone else stay home.
As a Bucs fan, i’ve seen several years of 100% participation go right in the dumpster, so all this angst is pure hysteria over nothing, IMHO.

If JPP gets 8+ sacks this year no one will complain that he missed voluntary OTA’s. If he doesn’t no one will say gee he should have been at voluntary OTA’s in June. They’ll just come out and bash the signing period.

dirk was suppose to set the tone for this year by demanding that everyone been here for OTA’s…..many other coaches do it…..dirk should told the captains, do whatever you have to do to get everyone here for OTA’s…..when we signed Mitch, beau, curry, JPP, Jensen dirk should’ve been right there telling them that OTA’s are important this year and he expects them to be there…..
when your coming from a 2-14 team and are currently one of the most important defensive players on a 5-11 team, you need all the practice you can get…..

All I can say. We had better ..Hope,,pray..Jpp does not go down during crucial points of the season. Curry is ok. But his stats indicate he is..average at best. And you already know the deal on our leftovers. No pass rush. No victories. Don’t matter how many yards Jameis throws for. Just ask Dan Marino about that!!

I guess for some Buc fans we can lower the bar of expectation and be happy with 5-6 sacks from JPP. I am not one of those Buc fans. 10 sacks is the bar for all starting NFL DEs especially in this pass happy league.
What kind of signal is JPP sending to his teammates when everyone else is there but not him. The signal is “I am special”. The I am special player motto needs to be purged from this UNDER performing team. None of them are special in my book. Coach K “perfect world BS” is more coddling and if this coach needs to learn one thing is coddling NFL players is equal to NFL coach firing. I like the analogy of Coughlin a fellow commenter made…this team has a terrible culture and we need to take EVERY opportunity to purge the past and that loser culture.
If you need an example, go look back at what Brooks and Sapp did when they got here…and tell me that this team does not have the same culture problems. How many years with no playoffs or even in the running? If you expect or want the same result, then do the same things…including coddling JPP;if you are seeking the playoffs shake it up and hard until they awaken ON the field when it counts. When they win, take your foot off the gas and when they lose or go back to their old habits…kick them in the ass.

Heard he gave up $250k bonus because he missed OTA’s. If he didn’t need the money. Im sure his country of Haiti sure could of used it. Would have been nice to show up, collect that money and donate for Haiti relief.
Don’t think JPP is one of those whiner players. Dissing this country because of inequality. Because he would have a hard time living that down in my eyes.

Right now all JPP cares about is staying healthy for the next and final contract of his career
He knows he wont be here next year with that contract
he wants his sack total to be high but health is everything…
No way he is going to jeopardize himself from injury in these OTAs

Is it true that JPP would have received a $250,000 contract bonus for participating in OTA’s?
If that is true, I call BS on Koetter. There is NO WAY JPP flies in from wherever he was to be ‘in the building’ but doesn’t strap up for a few days to collect a quarter million dollars.
I understand wanting to cover for your players, but that would be a flat out lie.

Any injury someone gets in OTAs can happen in the gym or on a track.
