Simeon Rice Up For Another Hall Of Fame
June 5th, 2018You know the guy is a legend when he’s been gone for over a decade and the team he starred for hasn’t come close to replacing him.
It is both an honor (for the player) and a disgrace (for the team) that the Bucs have not had a defensive end collect double-digit sacks since Simeon Rice played for the Bucs. That was in 2005, when Rice had 14 sacks.
And while Rice has been up for a Pro Football Hall of Fame vote, he hasn’t gotten to the final-15 where he can be presented for debate by internationally famous JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman.
Now it appears Rice is up for a second Hall of Fame honor and maybe this one will be a bit easier to get. Bob Asmussen of the Champaign News-Gazette brings word that Rice is up for the College Football Hall of Fame, representing his alma mater the University of Illinois.
Rice is easily Illinois’ career leader in tackles for loss with 69 and sacks with 44 1 / 2. Scott Davis, No. 2 on the sacks list, had 23.
Rice was the third player picked in the 1996 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He spent 12 years in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl ring in Tampa Bay.
He was a four-time All-Pro and finished his career with 122 sacks.
It is just unreal how the Bucs franchise has been without a stud pass rusher. And when they had one (Michael Bennett), they let him go for no good reason.
Joe is so worn down by unrequited hope for a stud edge rusher, that until Joe actually sees a man get 10 sacks in a season for the Bucs, Joe won’t believe it.

44 years without franchise Qb is worse.

Hopefully JPP can put that asterisk to rest.
..and I hope Ira gets Rice in someday!

It’s a shame that this guy isn’t in the HOF already… What a player!!!

I’m pulling for Rice. I hope it’s not his antics that is holding him back like TO. He deserves it.

Simeon Rice belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Without Simeon there would be no Super Bowl trophy in Tampa.

He should get in just so we can hear his acceptance speech….

If Smooth isnt in the Hall, then the Hall isnt legit.
Simeon stalked QBs like a panther. He was a fantastic Sack monster, a great DE, a great teammate, and a great person.
Nothing but luv for the coolest Buc of all time.
Ive been hoping we find another guy like Simeon Rice since the day he left.forever. Not gonna happen
We will never see his like again. Im just honored I got to see him fo his thing here!

The old bucs website always made my laugh with the sound effects that were tied to the site. Gene’s voice over “SIMEON RICE WITH THE SACK” when I tried to pull up different drop down menus. I know weird that I rememebr that…

Rice is still one of my all time favorites; I really hope he makes it to the Pro Bowl. I really think he was voted Super Bowl MVP (which I thought he should of) that would of been the extra notch on his belt to get him in. I think to many voters think he was to weak against the run, I think he was average in that department.
Good luck!

he should already be in!!!!!!!!!

Simeon rice should have been a first ballot inducte. What was that record he has 14 consecutive games with double digit sacks that still stands. I’ve lost respect for J.p.p not being at OTA’s with his teammates gelling with your “D’line is crucial. And he doesn’t seem to care.
