Mike Evans Calls Pros & Cons In Bucs’ Schedule
May 23rd, 2018Hey, Mike Evans, whaddya think when you saw that Buccaneers schedule for 2018?
Joe asked the Bucs’ beastly wide receiver just that at One Buc Palace yesterday. His answers were interesting.
“Pretty good schedule,” Evans said. “Everybody’s going to have a hard schedule; it’s the NFL. You know, every game’s going to be tough. Only thing I don’t like is the bye week. And I see we don’t have a Thursday night game. I like Thursday night games. You don’t have to practice as much that week and then you get two days off. So it’s kind of like an extra bye week if you don’t get too banged up. I’m a little disappointed about that [combined with] our bye week is pretty early this year [in Week 5].
“The strength of schedule looks good. I like that we have the Monday night game early against a great franchise in Pittsburgh. Going to New Orleans first week division game, so it’s going to be good.”
The Thursday night comment opened Joe’s eyes a bit. Since Evans arrived in 2014, the Bucs are 0-4 in Thursday night games and were outscored 149-79 combined. (That’s no typo.)
Sorry, Mike. Joe is very glad the TV networks didn’t want the Bucs for Thursday Night Football this season.
As for the brutally tough (on paper) early games of the season, Evans certainly has the right attitude. Bring’em on.

SOS is the most meaningless stat in offseason football chatter. First, the actual W/L percentage ranges from approximately .525 – .475. Not exactly a huge difference. Second, each team changes vastly each season so to have this based off of previous performance is ludicrous. Only AFTER the season can you determine true SOS at which point it’s too late. So yes, meaningless.

The schedule you get is the schedule you play. No point in complaining. All the panic in JBFlandia about a potential 0-3 start is craziness. Every game is winnable. It’s a new season. Teams that were up last season may be down this year, and vice-versa. We have the talent to play with anyone.

win some games and maybe you will be on Thursday night.

Exactly, superslacker.
Take us as a perfect example. After we went 9-7 in 2016, a lot of teams probably figured we’d be tough to beat in 2017. Then they got into the actual game and said, “Hey, this is way easier than we thought!”
