Kendell Beckwith 2.0?

This pick has all the scent of Kendell Beckwith revisited.
Remember Beckwith, who the Bucs selected in the 2017 draft, was expected to be a high pick as he was one of the best linebackers in the nation in 2016. But a knee injury late in the season wrecked Beckwith’s chances of potentially becoming a first-round pick.
Beckwith fell to the third round where the Bucs traded up to select Beckwith with the final pick of the round.
Beckwith bounced back quickly and he played anything but like a late third round pick last season.
Joe senses sort of a repeat with new sixth-round pick Jack Cichy. The Wisconsin linebacker blew out a knee in the preseason and hasn’t played a snap since the Badgers won the 2017 Cotton Bowl.
In his 2018 draft recap press conference, Licht admitted without the knee injury, Cichy might have been drafted in the second day of the draft.
Cichy, in a conference call with the Tampa Bay pen and mic club, said he should be good to go for OTAs.
If Cichy can bounce back from the injury, with a strong position coach like Mark Duffner, the Bucs may have another Beckwith on their hands.

With Beckwith’s future in doubt…I suppose I understand a lb pick. Preferably one that has seen the field in the last 15+ months however.

Can’t wait to see our undrafted free agents list. These guys can sign with whatever team they want so it’s always interesting to see what teams the best players gravitate to. We should be able to sign a few corners since that was our biggest competition.

It doesn’t matter how hungry “joe dirt” is. Because Bullough doesn’t have the natural ability or skill set to do anything in the NFL beyond barely clinging to a roster.
I have no idea who the Cichy guy is, but I stand by my point, if we were going to take Linebacker anyway, why not take Griffin?

Keep in mind that all tape on Cichy is at least 1 year old because he’s missed 20 straight games and all of 2017. It’s the general consensus that Ronald Jones elevated his game to a new level in 2017
As for the Badger LB, not going to expend too much energy hating on a 6th round pick, and to his credit Cichy actually looks fairly good on tape. However, it’s abundantly clear that he caught the injury bug something bad in college, and as I’ve said numerous times in regards to other players, if your body is breaking down and failing you as young man it’s more than likely going to continue to do so as you age.
I still maintain that if we were going to draft a LB in this draft, Shaq Griffin in the 4th round would have been much better value.

This kid has real talent, and plays with intensity
Injuries happen. Most Football injuries are a result of being in the wrong place.
If he recovers to his potential- this pick is a steal
Love Beckwith. Thought that He, along with David and Alexander- could be one of the very best LB units in the league.
But a broken ankle is often career ending. A Shattered ankle is almost a guaranteed career ender.
Cichy may be part of our immediate future

The ankle was fractured not shattered. Beckwith will be back but he may miss some time in Sept.

Never suggested that however, each injury is different and we have no idea how serious it is. If it was a shattered ankle, fair to guess he may not be ready for regular season. Surgery on a fractured ankle could be as simple as a small pin or much worse.

Fractured ankle is a 6 week injury. Its already been two weeks plus we have seen this guy come back from an acl in 8 months. As i said, beckwith will be good for training camp. Joe i will bet you a case of beer. What do you say?

Fyi…terell owens broke his leg and tore ligaments in his ankle and played in the superbowl six weeks later and had 9 catches for 122 yards. Beckwith will be good to go if all he had was a fractured ankle. Joe what do you say about the case of beer?

The only reason i would want Griffin is to divert attention from Winston’s investigation…..after that, Griffin is just another back up LB/special teams player. He weighs 225 lbs…..that’s not going to be a good playing weight in the NFL.

Im not much for conspiracy theories but the entire Shaquem Griffin thing just seems like a giant PR stunt.
I like the Jack Cichy pick tho.

Shaquem Griffin….I really feel sorry for all those players picked,their former teammates,coaches,families and friends that never got their 5 minutes of attention having their names called by the teams drafting them into the NFL…while the sappy story of Griffin went on and on and on and on and on…. and then some….of course I am happy and love the story but gezzzo oh pezzo

I don’t really care all that much about Griffin’s story, I think he’s a heck of a football player and could have been a MONSTER on special teams.
Plus he showed a knack for getting to the QB blitzing off the edge and through the A gap, racking up 11.5 sacks in 2016 and 7 in 2017.
Regardless of the media buzz surrounding him, I think that we could have gotten a really, really good player and tremendous value in Shaq Griffin.

He is a really good player. Im not disputing that. Im just saying the entire deal surrounding him just doesnt seem right.
He makes national headlines for his bench press at the combine. Which was deserved because it was very impressive.
The next day he “breaks” the 40 time record for LBs. If you watch that 40 attempt you can clearly see the clock stops at 4.38 early, about 2 yards early. Also explains why he was clocked at 4.58 on his second run. But that made another national headline.
Then they invite him to sit in the green room at the draft. Usually only players that are expected to go early get invites. So now thats another headline.
Then he slips in the draft to day 3, LBs that arent nearly as talented as he is are drafted before him, only for him to end up being reunited with his brother in Seattle. Yet another headline.
As I said. Im not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this seems like just a big PR stunt to generate headlines and draw more attention to the draft.

I found the 2016 Wisconsin-Ohio State game and fast-forwarded through to watch Cichy. He was impressive.
I found this about him at the Wisconsin Pro Day, “Cichy then went out and ran the pro agility drill in 4.19 seconds, the 3-cone drill in 6.88 seconds and registered a vertical leap of 33½ inches. His pro agility drill time would have ranked fourth among linebackers at the NFL combine, and his 3-cone drill would have been tied for fifth.” He is still in intensive rehab, and he was not ready to run the 40, yet.
He looks like a steal in the sixth round. He may challenge to be the best LB on the team in a year or two. He at least looks like a top notch backup.
