It’s Receiver Justin Watson In Round 5
April 28th, 2018Any Ivy League receiver in the fifth round? Hey, why not. The Bucs are paying their Ivy League tight end a fortune.
Your Buccaneers just snagged speedster receiver Justin Watson from the University of Pennsylvania. He’s 6-3, 225 pounds and has been a model of consistency for the past three seasons. He’s also the Penn career leader in nearly every receiving category.
Is he the next Kenny Bell? Joe sure hopes not.
What a great situation for the kid to come in and learn from the Buccaneers’ very deep and very talented receiving corps. Joe is assuming Watson has potential on special teams, because barring injury to a returning receiver, that’s the only way Watson will make the roster.
Watson wowed scouts after running a 4.4 40-yard dash and cranked out a 40-inch vertical jump at his pro day. So it makes you wonder why in a draft class rather weak at receiver Watson lasted so long.

Come on Joe. No need to jinx the kid right away with a Kenny Bell mention. Lol

Special teams is the only way he will make the roster? he might send a certain WR back to the Ramada Inn. Or BoBo might get cut.

Looks nothing like Humphries to me. That tape reminds me of Ed McCaffery. Intriguing.

I thought White Men Can’t Jump!

You know why he lasted so long. You don’t have to say it. Same reason people said Jordy Nelson was slow without looking at the numbers. Same reason Lamar Jackson and Watson were not drafted earlier. Preconceived notions based on skin pigment

Charles Davis said Watson was his favorite under the radar slot receiver, went on and on about how much he loved his game and Mayock agreed with all of it.

People are reaching in the comments…
He was drafted low because he didn’t play against top shelf competition and while he has terrific straight line athleticism, he isn’t extremely agile and fluid so that speed doesn’t translate completely on the field.
I like this pick.
A terrific kid to come in and be the #5 receiver – creates another big redzone target in goal line situations – great backup.

Won’t be hard to make the roster as the #5 WR…

He lasted until the 5th because all Ivy League players are late drafted even with great production. This is a similar case to Brate, who had great production at Harvard and good measurables, but went undrafted. Watson was not going to be overlooked. I think we may have gotten a steal. Some comparisons have been made to Adam Thielen of the Vikes. Love this pick! Seriously, we’re 6 deep at WR. That’s sick.

Watson – 6’3 225
Godwin – 6’1 210
Watson – 4.42 40
Godwin – 4.42 40
Watson – 20 bench reps
Godwin – 19 bench reps
Watson – 40″ vertical
Godwin – 36″ vertical

Can he return? We could use an upgrade there.
Hope he pans out. This was a nice draft not having to worry about WR.

Great size fast I think we can develop this guy as for why he fell I bet it has to do with him probably not coming from a pro style offense so it’s gonna take him time to learn how to breakdown defenses recognize coverages and I guess just the overall verbiage

Solid pick in 5th – looks like a solid chain moving possession guy – can never have enough of them to supplement the stars and ensure quality depth – man we are getting stacked at many position groups
WR-TE-DL-LB are top notch league wide and have the franchise QB in place
Feel much better today than I did when the schedule came out!!!!

April 30th, 2018 at 2:15 am
