Gerald McCoy Blesses Vita Vea Pick
April 26th, 2018Big No. 93, the six-time Pro Bowler on the Buccaneers’ defensive line, is fired up for the newest Tampa Bay defensive lineman.
Perhaps Gerald McCoy realizes that the pick of manbeast tackle Vita Vea out of the University of Washington means McCoy might be able to cut his snaps by 15 percent or so, which could extend his career and make him more effective when he is on the field.
McCoy took to Twitter tonight right after the pick.
HEREEEEEE WEEEEEEE GOOOOOOO!!!
— Gerald McCoy (@Geraldini93) April 27, 2018
McCoy wasn’t just blowing smoke. Joe heard from a source that McCoy is very pleased.
He should be. Look what the Bucs gave McCoy this offseason: Jason Pierre-Paul, a gargantuan athletic rookie in Vea, plus fresh Super Bowl winners Vinny Curry and Beau Allen (sorry, Mitch Unrein fans).
McCoy has help, and more help. And Bucs fans have a guy in Vea that can, if he pans out, replace 30-year-old McCoy when his game falls off.
April 26th, 2018 at 10:50 pm
Davenport???
April 26th, 2018 at 10:50 pm
Thats correct no more excuses for McCoy. It is put up or shut up time!!!!!!
April 26th, 2018 at 10:52 pm
I can only guess that Tmax likes this pick……although he would likely find a very negative way of expressing it.
I like the pick but am a bit surprised because of our off-season acquisitions. But, then again, that’s what Licht likes to do.
Obviously aside from the big three Vita must have been the top choice because James was still there for us…..and, we got 2 2s.
The way this draft is shaping up, we may not need to move up for a good RB.
April 26th, 2018 at 10:54 pm
Reverse jinx on last comment
We need guice or Michel.
April 26th, 2018 at 10:54 pm
Shaq Griffin. 2nd round. Make it happen. Him alone will make McCoy an alpha male.
April 26th, 2018 at 10:55 pm
Steelers and Seattle and eagles mocks – I always see a rb
April 26th, 2018 at 10:55 pm
U think Vea is just going to spell McCoy?
Lol,
McCoy and Vea are gonna be the 2 starters and dominate the middle of the line
April 26th, 2018 at 10:56 pm
If Vita can play more than 2 downs and get a pass rush then it’s a good pick, but there is a reason guys his size play NT in a 3-4, not DT in a 4-3. Hopefully he’s a mold breaker, but history is not on his side.
April 26th, 2018 at 10:57 pm
Giddy about our 3 2nd rounders
April 26th, 2018 at 10:57 pm
We need rb and a couple of corners. We can sign one of the safeties after the draft for peanuts. Get some corners and address the rb. Ol later in draft and after roster cuts. It’s easier to find gems for the online late or after cut day
April 26th, 2018 at 11:02 pm
Good point.
There are more than a few solid safeties still out there
The safety market has been frozen Even Matthieu only got 7 mil.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:03 pm
I’m still mixed about the vea pick but hey build the trenches. It’s about time and it looks like licht has learned his lesson with the ol and dl additions
April 26th, 2018 at 11:04 pm
Rod Munch,
This guy is an athletic FREAK!
The biggest reason for the Bucs troubles last year, and the past several years, is that they’re D-lines are WEAK, and get destroyed every week!
April 26th, 2018 at 11:07 pm
@Thespiritof1976
I’d LOVE to see us get Shaq in the 2nd!!! Dude is a baller!! Go RB/CB/Shaq in the second, and I’d be PUMPED!!!!
April 26th, 2018 at 11:09 pm
Mike Smith gets his two BAMFs in the middle.
Stop the run and go have some fun.
Penny off the board 🙁
April 26th, 2018 at 11:11 pm
Would waste a 1st round pick on a roster with 6 DTs on it already and 1 DB. Can we fire this dude already.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:16 pm
Trade back in the first round please
April 26th, 2018 at 11:18 pm
Derrius Guice/Sony Michel and Josh Jackson/Isaiah Oliver/Mike Hughes in the 2nd?
April 26th, 2018 at 11:25 pm
So will people finally shut their mouths that he has no talent around him?
Time to play every snap, Gerald. Your replacement has arrived.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:31 pm
Go get Hernandez
April 26th, 2018 at 11:34 pm
Now go get Hernandez.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:35 pm
We need a running game man !!!!!! We losing all the running backs.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:38 pm
if he pans out
April 26th, 2018 at 11:44 pm
Hernandez and Chubb still in play, along with CB. Nice!
April 26th, 2018 at 11:48 pm
Some butt hurt chris baker fans here or something…..jeeze
April 26th, 2018 at 11:48 pm
“Bucs fans have a guy in Vea that can, if he pans out, replace 30-year-old McCoy when his game falls off.”
Well let’s not go overboard. Vea won’t be getting a lot of sacks. Maybe 4-5 per year. His strength is the blocking, pressure, and run stopping.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:50 pm
Alright, keeping our picks no trades…
Big Will (wont happen) so DE Landry (fingers crossed)
Chubb or Jones II
Jessie Bates
Nick Nelson
Desmond Harrison
April 26th, 2018 at 11:53 pm
^ exactly Bonzai! He’ll be where Baker was but excelling like Baker couldnt. Big Powerful man at NT who will command doubles, flushing the pocket so our DE’s and LB’s can get it done.
April 26th, 2018 at 11:55 pm
Philly proved how to win Superbowls.
Wave after wave of hungry Defensive linemen.
Vea replace McCoy?
Does no one uderstand 3 technique?
Vea is a big bodied run stopper, who plays Nose tackle.
McCoy is not a nose tackle.
For the first time in his career- McCoy has some help on that D-line.
Fking about time
Now draft
2nd round
Nick Chubb -Rb
Tavarious McFadden- CB
Marcus Allen-Safety
4th round
Chad Thomas-DE
5th round
Wyatt Teller-G
And we will have addresses this teams largest needs
April 27th, 2018 at 12:00 am
The loser tonight??? Beau Allen. Didn’t he want to come here to be a starter? Well……
April 27th, 2018 at 12:11 am
The smart fans understand what is happening. the Bucs – for the first time in 15 years – are being built the correct way.
Trench warfare.
FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!
April 27th, 2018 at 12:20 am
Hernandez
April 27th, 2018 at 12:20 am
Hernandez
April 27th, 2018 at 12:23 am
I guess the Captain doesn’t realise Vea can okay more than one position.
He is the replacement for McCoy and his bloated 2019 salary.
Talent around him for the first time in his career? Please.
You sound like cry baby Gerald.
April 27th, 2018 at 12:26 am
McCoy Is garbage. Trade him while he still has value to some unsuspecting team that doesn’t realize he takes plays off and disappears during games.
April 27th, 2018 at 12:52 am
play them both… can’t double team both of them new day in Buc country….
April 27th, 2018 at 12:54 am
^^^^^ Joel sit down 6 time Pro bowler PLEEEEESE dude McCoy has been doubled team his entire career and still goes to PB 6 time geeze…. hmft
April 27th, 2018 at 12:57 am
The Bills and Broncos actually had a trade worked out but because Bradley Chubb fell to the Broncos, they opted to draft him instead of making the trade.
Lucky for us Denzel Ward was drafted higher than anyone thought and Bradley Chubb fell to the Broncos. That allowed us to be in prime position for the Bills to make a trade offer.
April 27th, 2018 at 1:11 am
guys now with vita at nose btw he can pass rush he’s got great speed and wiggle for his side and jpp and curry and healthy spence were gunna kick the sh*t out of our divisions olines and our oline is gunna kick the crap out of there dlines to our trenches are overhauled and it’s so important in football to control the trenches and guys we have 3 second rounders tm I hope we go RB corner and saftey and if we do that hell I wouldn’t be mad if we didn’t make another pick the whole draft Jason Licht does it again I hated the vita pick at first but I’ll be honest I didn’t know about him now that I do I’m so happy it’s insane he’s a wrecking ball gamewrecker.
April 27th, 2018 at 1:17 am
Im telling you I hated the pick at first I wanted minkah or derwin with a passion but now that we traded back we can get help there later vita vea is not just a run stuffer he can do it all he’s a freak he literally is the nosetsckle version of Arron Donald mixed with Haloti Ngata so vea is going to be a boulder in the run game you literally can’t run at him and he blasts through double teams with McCoy now to? guys drew Brees hates middle pressure guess what that just became our strong suit we have a top 5 dline in the nfl now guys and we also have one of the best linebacker trios in the league to we are going to dominate our division in the trenches this year we gunna smack them around vita is gunna TOSS fools like it’s his job box it is his job Gerald is gunna blast through and force drew out of the pocket and JPP is gunna bend around and get maaaad sacks bc of Gerald and vita blasting fools in the middle Im so happy
April 27th, 2018 at 1:22 am
Vita Vea is a high-character guy.
A saintly man.
Goes well with GMZ.
But the heathens and demons out there don’t like honorable men, like GMC.
I for one, love having good MEN on our team.
Builds a positive culture.
Go Bucs!
April 27th, 2018 at 1:22 am
Shut the f up McCoy already , you hv talked more than L Roy Selmon would have in 50 years and quit on plays and your team more than Selmon in 100 years !!! We have tape !!! Please just shut the F Up and do what someone that loves football( Bucs player) and the fans would love to do for a quarter of your salary !!! Don’t take that out of context every Bucs fan wants you to be paid 15 million a year if you can dominate as much as your mouth and persona off the field ( camera tiger) …… Thank You Clinton McdonLd for being a real player here and still semi dominating when Gerald wasn’t next to you !!! How could you play so good without Gerald , Well the tape says tenacity and Effort !!! Gerald just shut up and make a play ,, seriously dude shut up and make plays !!! I’m over your mouth , ego and hyped get off !!! Your meaningful highlight real is naked and fellow pro bowlers love told you that 2 yeArs ago and you bAbled promises , posed for the cameras but you just don’t make plays . Jumping in the backfield is not a play , A hole !!!!
Rd
April 27th, 2018 at 1:45 am
We hit the jack pot and blew it on a reach who played against sub par opponents
April 27th, 2018 at 1:56 am
Don’t be shocked – if we draft Maurice Hurst in the 2nd round.
April 27th, 2018 at 2:00 am
That would be a shock. (Ahem)
April 27th, 2018 at 2:08 am
Love the move, we’ve been soft up front for years. Starting with the guy who says let’s go.
April 27th, 2018 at 2:37 am
Joe it’s not honest to block every negative reaction to that pick that pick was horrible let’s just be honest already man.
April 27th, 2018 at 3:00 am
GMC has been double covered his entire career and is a good player. That’s not possible anymore with JPP/GMC/Vea/Noah/Curry/Allen/Gholston. THAT’S WHAT I CALL A F#CKIN SICK ASS D-LINE ROTATION AND DEPTH CHART!!! NOW GO GET HERNANDEZ IN THE SECOND!!! FIX THE TRENCHES!!!
April 27th, 2018 at 4:35 am
Remaining PRIORITY NEEDS are pretty clear: OG, RB, CB, SS. OT for depth. We now have 3 picks in 2nd Rnd & 2 picks in 4th Rnd. Bucs now have a chance to fill all of our priority needs AND add some OL depth in this draft … all by the end of the 4th Rnd. Add another CB & RB for even more depth after that & Bucs would have a strong starting roster with decent depth going into training camp.
Jason jumped on an incredible opportunity when he traded down from #7 to #12 with Buffalo and picked up TWO 2nd Rnd picks in the process. We all need to now thank the Broncos for backing out of their ‘almost trade’ with the Bills & picking Bradley Chubb when he fell to #5. TIMING IS EVERYTHING & that opportunity was EXACTLY what we needed.
April 27th, 2018 at 4:41 am
Oops, make that 2 picks in 4th & 5th Rnds combined (picks #102 and #144). Also still have 2 picks in 6th Rnd (#180 and #202) it looks like. That’s 7 more picks total … please use 1 of those 6th Rnd picks to grab Bo Scarborough if he’s still there Jason.
April 27th, 2018 at 5:15 am
3-4 dLine
Spence, Curry, Vea, McCoy, JPP
Get J. Jackson right meow
April 27th, 2018 at 5:56 am
Think C. Campbell who everyone wanted to get in F.A. last year for a billion dollars. We got us a freakish big D.T.. Remember who coached Campbell in Az, Buckner, and who will be molding Vea here.
April 27th, 2018 at 6:52 am
If Vea does what is expected, its going to much tougher for Cam,Kamara or Freeman for example to penetrate our line. Here’s hoping we are able to rattle a lot of QB’s with this revamped D line.
April 27th, 2018 at 7:58 am
Would really like to hear a Buckner quote regarding this pick.
With the current roster, GMC should pay more end on run downs, then come back to three for passing downs. Kind of like Campbell has done for Arizon and Jacksonville last year.
April 27th, 2018 at 8:11 am
Joel
So, you think 345# can play positions other than nose tackle??
Lmfao
Suuuure he can!! Meybe he can solve our issues at RB!! He was a Rb in high School, right??
After watching his Tape, you think Vea has mad skills, and McCoy doesnt??
Again, Lmfao
You really dont understand anything about This game,do you?
Vea was drafted to be a wall every play. Thats a Nose tackles job. He holds his ground- to keep Rbs from having a gap to run thru.
End of job description.
If you are expecting anything else, then your dumba*s will be hating Vea by game 4. Because you dont know anything about football
Can you particularly stupid zombies keep the really Fking stupid comments to a minimum? Im still hung over.
April 27th, 2018 at 8:45 am
Vea played in a 4-3 in college so I dont get some of the comments on the 3-4 and whether he can fit in the Bucs D. This is a great pick especially considering the 2 extra picks in the 2nd round this YEAR. If you compare our trade down to the next one (that got a 3rd and 5th) I think we stole the Bills lunch money. For those of you saying GMC has to prove it this year because of this acquisition, I would say #3 has more to prove to this fanbase than GMC…a lot more.
When we get our RB today, I think Buc fan will begin to feel great about this draft.I still think the Bucs will replace Sweezy in this draft too. He is done and hopefully Licht will not make the Martin mistake again by hanging onto a player too long.
Go Bucs!
April 27th, 2018 at 9:20 am
Even though he played a 4-3 in college I’m pretty sure he was brought in to give the Bucs an option to mix in some 3-4 defense because of his shear size and strength. Also as good as McCoy can SOMETIMES be at rushing the QB he can be manhandled by most guards in the running game so this will help with that as well.
April 27th, 2018 at 11:39 am
Cam doesn’t score on that play if Vea is in there instead of Baker.
April 27th, 2018 at 12:30 pm
Capt. Tim- You know that the GMC argument is the JBF blackhole right?! If you’re not a “fan”, any argument in support of GMC is Fake News! Facts?! Man, puh-leeze!
April 27th, 2018 at 1:08 pm
Vita’s got that mean streak in him. McCoy has it to a certain degree. But not like Vita Vea. Vita will not..be helping opposing players get off the ground when he hits them!! Because from what I’ve seen of him, Vita hits’em hard and vicious.. We need that..nasty play on Defense. Welcome aboard Vita Vea!!!!
April 27th, 2018 at 1:29 pm
Woahhhhhh.. hell of a move back and grab vea at 12 puts pressure then sends them pierre Paul’s way!! Dayum nice way to help that secondary huh. Let’s grab a rb and cb then maybe safety legoo
April 27th, 2018 at 1:30 pm
Now I see why we didn’t go after suh!!
April 27th, 2018 at 4:15 pm
James, but suh can actually rush the passer.vita is a nose tackle that can free up the linebackers to make plays.he is not gonna get many sacks cause he doesn’t have any pass rushing moves.hopefully he can master a move or two and become a decent pass rusher but that will take time.
