Major Buccaneers Schedule Leak Shows Saints, Eagles & Steelers In September, And More

April 19th, 2018

The heat is on full blast, gentlemen.

UPDATED 2:53 p.m. – Somebody screwed up at One Buc Palace today, and Bucs fans are celebrating and trembling at the same time.

Man, this is one of the biggest schedule leaks Joe has ever seen and it was screen captured on the Twitter feed of Tampa Bay Times writer Greg Auman.

First, Saints beat writer Nick Underhill is Tweeting that the Buccaneers will open the season at 1 p.m. in New Orleans.

Auman’s screenshot has the Bucs opening at home against the Eagles the following week (Sept. 16) with a Monday Night Football game in Tampa on September 24 against the Steelers.

How bout that for a swift test for Dirk Koetter and the boys! Damn!

The Browns are the next home game on October 21, which means the Bucs have a rough road trip after those brutal three opening tests.

The remainder of the posted home schedule is as follows:

Sunday, Nov. 11, 1 p.m. REDSKINS
Sunday, Nov. 25, 1 p.m. 49ERS
Sunday, Dec. 2, 1 p.m. PANTHERS
Sunday, Dec. 9, 1 p.m. SAINTS
Sunday, Dec. 31, 1 p.m. FALCONS

This means the Bucs will travel for their Thursday Night Football appearance, which is never good for the road club.

The full schedule is set to be released tonight at 8 p.m. on NFL Network.

$20 all-you-can-eat buffet kicks off at 6 p.m. and runs all night long. Be there!!

    That’s not a test…..that’s a gauntlet

  2. Trevor in Orlando Says:

Weeks 1-3 in the Hurricane zone, I wonder if the Bucs share bye weeks respective to the teams they’re playing those weeks.

  3. Bucsfan951 Says:

If Bucs come out of the first 3 weeks at 2-1, that would be huge! Here’s to hoping Bucs fans fill the stadium up in weeks 2 and 3

  4. Lamarcus Says:

Man doesn’t matter. The team so soft players are getting injured without even playing

  5. Pickgrin Says:

Saints (Away), Eagles, Steelers to start the season?

As Sam from Quantum Leap would say – Oh Boy…

If that is the case – I guess we find out right out of the gate whether this 2018 Buccaneers team will be able to “compete” or not…

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Conflicting reporting going on.

Not sure what to believe. As long as we don’t open at Arizona I’m fine with whatever man. Get the f*cking W no excuses. Start strong finish strong.

Sure it’d be great to get a cupcake starting schedule but that just means a tough finish. Just hope we have a mid-season type bye and no hurricane drama

  7. Evolvingbucfan Says:

From what i have see is :

vs. Eagles, Sun Sep 16, 1:00 ET
vs. Steelers, Mon Sep 24, 8:15 ET
vs. Browns, Sun Oct 21, 1:00 ET
vs. Redskins, Sun Nov 11, 1:00 ET
    vs. 49ers, Sun, Nov 25, 1:00 ET
vs. Panthers, Sun Dec 2, 1:00 ET
vs. Saints, Sun Dec 9, 1:00 ET
vs. Falcons, Sun Dec 30, 1:00 ET

  8. Trevor in Orlando Says:

Probably early bye week, in one of the weeks between the Steelers home game and Browns home game. I doubt the NFL intentionally scheduled a 3 consecutive weeks of road games.

  9. Tony D Says:

There are no easy games in the NFL, to be the best you have to beat the best.

  10. miken Says:

getting the Eagles off on 10 days rest and have to go on road after MNF is no ideal but looks like bye is mid Oct

  11. miken Says:

I was really hoping Vandy or Wake Forest was on the schedule this year.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

“3 to 5 wins at the most”

    The Kobe Realist

  13. Syl Says:

    That is a nice schedule.

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

To be the best you got to beat the best. It is a murderers row but this is an area where I’m in agreement with 813 NO EXCUSES.

And talk about the blog optimist here….we face the chance of opening 0-3…but we for sure will see where we stand against good teams and have the rest of the season to make adjustments. If we simply go 10-3 over the back end of the schedule we’ll still make the playoffs.

The test will be of course whether the fans and Glazers still support Dirk if the Bucs stumble out of the gate.

IMHO 2-1 is not out of the question for us…if we’re really improved. #3 is ready! And let’s be honest…this team will go as Jameis goes…I think this young man is ready to explode! We may see the perfect storm of frustration at losing…tired of all the criticism…3 years of experience and the hurricane next year is going to be Hurricane Jameis!

Hopefully Philly’s bones got picked over in the off season by us and other teams.
Hopefully the suffer a little SB hangover.

We’ve outplayed N.O. in the Dome on more than one occasion…no reason we can’t add to that number. They are good not great.

The Steelers are the Steelers…maybe Big Ben will start showing his age…perhaps Le’Veon Bell hits the bowl once too often…

I’d just as soon open in N.O. as anywhere. The dreaded Buc’s homefield disadvantage seems particularly large if it’s the first game of the season.
We’ll have realistic expectations for that first home game…against the defending SB Champs.

Again an optimist would view this as the perfect start…813…No Excuses…

  15. ChanEpic Says:

@KobeRealist – let’s call it a solid 4-12… Dang that schedule is brutal. Don’t sleep on Cleveland, they could shock us.

  16. ChanEpic Says:

    So 4-12?

  17. Chris in WA Says:

This team always has a hard time starting the season off on the right foot, with emphasis on September. This year looks like it will be even more challenging especially coming off of such a sour season in 2017. I would hate to see them be 1-3 yet that is certainly within the realm of possibility. Hopefully the locker room could handle it well.

  18. webster Says:

Its already determined the bucs have the 4th toughest schedule this year. Hold on boys because this is going to be a bumpy ride.

  19. DB55 Says:

    Webster

Where did all your confidence go bro?

  20. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

I love people predicting records this time of year.
    No. Really. I do.

When people say 4-12, I immediately think, “that guy really knows what he’s talking about.”

  21. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

The Steelers match-up sure would change if, as @Joe proposed in a thread around a week ago, that Licht traded for Lev Bell during round 1 of the draft! Rather have Saquon, but would gladly have Lev Bell, or David Johnson, keep an eye on it.

The Bye week is likely early in October like @Trevor said.

Elway said this afternoon that he’s “open for business” for their pick #5 and he will start listening to offers Monday. THAT IS WHAT LICHT NEEDED TO HEAR!! Provided that the Giants pass, and the Browns trade down or take Chubb at #4, or a Tackle/Guard for their holey Oline, then Jason can GO GET Saquon from Elway, cuz Elway won’t want to move all the way down to #12 with Buffalo, as they don’t need that many players! But Elway WILL BE FINE with only moving to #7, still get Nelson there maybe.

    LICHT…CALL ELWAY MONDAY!!! C’mon down….SAQ-UONNNNN!

    Go Bucs!

  22. Dewey Selmon Says:

Dirk’s 3rd year and has yet to have a home opener.

  23. BucThis Says:

Joe, who do you think the Bucs next head coach will be?

  24. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Webster….

4th toughest “strength of schedule” it was. Meaning that the opponents’ W/L records of last year that the Bucs are playing this year is 4th toughest.

Not the 4th toughest schedule. To determine all that goes into that, depends on when the Bye week is, how many road games when, traveling Thursdays versus home Thursdays after Sunday game, etc..etc… Playing last year’s tougher opponents can get easier this year, or harder, depending on those conditions.

    Go Bucs!

  25. Gobucs Says:

    0-3 right off the bat.

    Yayyy

  26. brooks55hof Says:

Any news on the Ravens road game?

  27. hoover923 Says:

Outside of its usefulness for making travel plans for away games, schedule release is the biggest non-event of the offseason. The schedule is the schedule. Ya gotta play it. Projecting W’s and L’s 4+ months before is pointless and boring… And complaining about the road trips is a waste of time.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Who cares what the schedule is. Wake me up when this team can compete with their own division…….You know the teams that Dirk will be playing for the 5th/6th times.

We play these teams and come out unprepared like we never saw them before………You know things like have no plan on how the stop Julio Jones, or having any idea who to slow down Carolinas Dline.

If you have no chance to beat anybody in your division then you have no chance. Doesn’t matter the schedule. I’m glad we start with New Orleans. Show me something.

  29. hoover923 Says:

    0-3 right off the bat.

See, this is why… 4+ months from the season and people say stupid sh!te like this. I mean why bother even being a fan if you’re going to use the schedule as a reason to complain. How does anyone know how good our team, or anyone else’s team will be. If we can get a RB and tighten up the defense on the backend, we shouldn’t count ourselves out of any game. Again, why bother to be a fan, if this is your takeaway.

  30. Kobe Faker Says:

With likely successful seasons of philly and Minnesota…

    Its a flip between

    DC jim schwartz or

    OC john defilippo

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Hoover they are scared of the Saints and Steelers hahahahahahaha

I’ll give them the Champion Eagles.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

    stpete

that’s a tough schedule but yeah, no excuses…..I don’t see why we cant beat any of those teams….they strap up their helmet just like everyone else….no reason we should be intimidated by them…..

with that said, im super worried about the saints opening day…..sean payton will have his team ready to roll in the dome and I know he’s looking to put up 50+points on the bucs…..he’s going to come up and try to embarrass dirk…..I bet they come out fast and physical……

I don’t see us being favored in any of our home games but who knows…..on any given sunday as folks say……

hopefully we get out to a good start, build confidence and keep the momentum going thru out the season……

this is why we brought dirk here right…..to beat good teams like pittsburg, eagles and the saints……will he pass or fail?…..we shall see!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

    WK 6 – @ ATL
    WK 7 – vs. CLE
    WK 8 – @ CIN

  34. JimmyJack Says:

F this……I was not going to go to any games til this team proves something but I’ll be dammed if I let Eagle fans come down and try to take over our stadium for our Home Opener!!!

We need to get our azzes to that game. Everyone of us and make sure to drown Philly fans.

  35. miken Says:

    @brooks55 week 15

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Come on you friggen stick carriers!! Make a difference. Let’s see how strong you guys really are.

Are you going to let’s these other Eagle fans control our stadium?

  37. Jason Says:

@Kobe Faker personally I think Defilippo is the better choice.

  38. DB55 Says:

    Jimmy

Remember the eagles games when Bryant kicked the 63 yard fg for the win? That was EPIC! Eagle fans went from loud and annoying to walking down the ramps with their tails between their legs. Never seen a faster mood swing than at that game.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

DB55……I was sitting by the tunnel that game. I was directly in line with th3 goalpost that Bryant kicked it through.

One of the greatest moments I’d seen. That was the loudest I had ever heard that stadium. And it stayed loud for a good 5-10 mins after the game was over.

If you remember Bryant didn’t really have that strong of a leg back then. He had something special going that day. I remember him booming kicks pregame and then when he was kicking off everything was going through the end zone which was abnormal for him.

To the assclowns predicting 3-5 wins and talking about potential HC replacements — why bother?

Seriously, why bother being a fan? This team went 9-7 the year before, they have a ton of talent, but had a rough year in 2017… Can’t you suspend your negativity until say, at least week one of the regular season? Seriously, this level of negativity this time of year is unwarranted and basically just amounts to trolling people who are reasonable fans with open minds.

    ************

I’ll revise this after I see all the other teams schedules, but for now, I’ll say:

    WK 1 – @ NO —— LOSS
WK 2 – vs. PHI —– WIN (no Wentz)
    WK 3 – vs. PIT —– LOSS
    WK 4 – @ CHI —– WIN
    WK 5 – BYE
WK 6 – @ ATL —– WIN (Jameis owns Atlanta and the bye will help)
    WK 7 – vs. CLE —- WIN
    WK 8 – @ CIN —– LOSS (we’ll be overconfident)
    WK 9 – @ CAR —– LOSS
    WK 10 – vs. WAS — WIN
WK 11 – @ NYG —- WIN (esp . if Giants take a QB at #2 instead of Saquon)
WK 12 – vs. SF —– WIN (I don’t believe in Frisco at all, yet)
    WK 13 – vs. CAR —- WIN
WK 14 – vs. NO —— LOSS (I just think they have a better roster than we do)
WK 15 – @ BAL ——- WIN (Balt will be out of the playoff hunt imho)
WK 16 – @ DAL ——- LOSS (I was hoping we’d get them on Thanksgiving)
    WK 17 – vs. ATL —— WIN

10-6 … although I honestly feel at 10-6 we could still finish in last place in the division and miss the playoffs … but Koetter and maybe even Smitty may still keep their jobs …

  45. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

The only thing that bothers me is that the nfl should have taken in to consideration that we didn’t have a bye week last year. Why give us the earliest bye possible? Other than that I can’t complain about the schedule. We already knew most of the teams we were gonna play, so when we play them doesn’t make a difference to me.

  46. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BBB

Nice job explaining the difference in tough schedules. Well stated. As for me though I’m with 813 and won’t use the schedule in any way as an excuse.

Got a feeling reading your posts that if we get Saquon you’ll be optimistic as well.

It’s the NFL…on any given Sunday and hopefully Monday against the Steelers.

BTW I love your plan at actually getting him. It’s the first time I’ve honestly thought we might have a chance to get him.

  47. 813bucboi Says:

the ol man will be happy about Pittsburg coming to town……

damn, im looking at the schedule trying to figure out who we could beat…..I know you cant count the chickens before they hatch but damn…..it aint looking good…..

we face 4 physical teams in a row……another soft TC by dirk and we can kiss this season goodbye!!!!!!…..

    Agreed on the uniform.

But if all you’re going to do is b!tch… why bother? Seriously, what’s the point? If I couldn’t see reason to be optimistic, I’d just not bother… But we really have so much talent, and there’s some damn good coaches on the staff, and Koetter is definitely NOT incompetent… So, now is the time for optimism. If you can’t at least withhold the negativity for a few months, I’ll repeat, why bother?

  51. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    NFLNut

The only place we disagree is New Orleans. I’m probably like you are on SF.
Some of it may be because I’m prejudiced and dislike Payton….never been a giant Brees fan either.

The fact that we beat them last year even though we clearly did not play our best makes me think they are beatable.

I hope you’re right about Atlanta…beating them twice could be tough but I can see it.

Again…even if we get Saquon or not…this team is going to go as Jameis goes.

  52. Gobucs Says:

    @hoover

Stfu you talk like a new fan. I’ve been watching this franchise since 1987.

So go eat a di*k you little punk.

You’re probably one of the idiots screaming super bowl.

You can have all the false hope you want but the Bucs are more likely to be 0-3 than anything else. And history tells us that.

So you wanna talk sh*t go ahead but when it’s 0-3 you can say you heard it here first.

  53. NFLNut Says:

^ Yeah, I could easily see us beating the Saints at home and losing to the Falcons on the road, but Jameis generally plays amazing ball against the Falcons, and we have the bye week before we play them, so I have us going 2-0 against Atlanta and 0-2 against New Orleans … anyways, I’m demanding we go 9-7 or Koetter and Smitty should likely be fired, but I do think 10-6 is do-able … and yes, I’m actually expecting us to get Saquon at this point in time.

  54. Kobe Faker Says:

    Why the negativity?

Because i can see the future

We are the Cincinnati of the NFC. The glazers are the mike Brown ownership clone

The Glazer formula for the next 5 years is have jameis winston as the qb (face of the franchise) and try to win but its ok if we dont

Both koetter and licht will be here for the next 3-5 years with 4-7 wins each year

The bucs are gurenteed over 200 million each year from the tv contract (+ sports gambling coming this year in new jersey)….

    And thats all that matters

    Kobe fakers last post

Oh they have talent blah blah. Guess what so does everyone else.

    Idiot

  56. NFLNut Says:

^ Um, no … the Glazers are NOTHING like Mike Brown … they fire coaches all the time, don’t mind paying multiple head coaches at the same time and spend well in free agency … Mike Brown does almost nothing … he’s had the same coach for 97 years despite no playoff wins and routinely spends next to nothing in free agency.

Bucs fans can sensibly complain about Koetter’s playcalling and Mike Smith’s coaching and their horrible defense, but not the Glazers.

  57. JonBuc Says:

Been a fan since 1976… I talk like an open minded person who is ready to move on from last year’s failure, and looking at the roster, and considering they were 9-7 the year before, I think there’s reason for optimism… And the overwh3lming negativity is a sign of poor intelligence.

So go eat a di*k you little punk.

Quality response. What are you, 17 years old?

You’re probably one of the idiots screaming super bowl.

Wrong again, sh!thead. I don’t make predictions. I don’t rule out much of anything, but no, I don’t expect Superbowl.

You can have all the false hope you want but the Bucs are more likely to be 0-3 than anything else. And history tells us that.

I think that’s called superstition. History has nothing to do with it, except for whiny-ass Bucs fans.

So you wanna talk sh*t go ahead but when it’s 0-3 you can say you heard it here first.

No sh!t talking here. Is it possible we’ll go 0-3. Sure. Could we go 2-1, sure… Maybe 3-0… it’s possible. Point is I don’t know, you don’t know, JBF doesn’t know, and none of the other whiny little b!tches on here know.

Yeah, I’m pretty familiar with the negative tone here… Just plugged into this new round of p!ssing and moaning generated by the schedule release. It’s usually a mistake engaging in these conversations. Negative people are gonna be negative. No point in trying to show them there’s a small glimpse of hope — it’ll just be ignored. Those people wanna be miserable. Even when the team wins they complain.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Hoover it’s up to the team to give us a glimmer of hope. You can’t expect anybody to be optimistic about this team………At the end of the day we can put all the cards on the table and the Buccaneers are just an awful football team. That’s just what we are. Worse is that that we have been downright awful for the last 2 decades.

There’s plenty of reason for hope. They ovrehauled the D-line (our biggest weakness) and the draft is coming up. The only team that matters right now is the one they’re building for 2018. Holding on to negativity so overwhelmingly is just dumb. There’s plenty of reason for hope.

  74. hoover923 Says:

But I’m done. You guys can hold on to your negativity all you want… knock yourselves out. I’m not convincing you of anything… Just sound like a bunch of butthurt crybabies.

  75. DB55 Says:

The Bucs are going to win the Super Bowl

  76. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan….

Thanks! And yeah, I am generally pretty optimistic about the Bucs in general, and in Licht’s ability to select quality picks in the draft, and his ability to wheel and deal there when needed. I am not optimistic however, about a lot of the hacks on JBF, the noisemakers who want to sit in draft slots belligerently as if aggregation of players is the answer by itself to….success.

And I would be VERY OPTIMISTIC if the Bucs got Saquon, absolutely! I just have a very resolute sense that HE will be a perpetual absolute difference-maker for this organization ON ALL SIDES. For many years to come.

Here’s to hoping that Licht strikes a deal with Elway at #5 (or anyone necessary) while on the clock for SAQUON.

Go Bucs! Go Bold! Go Barkley! Go Primetime!

  77. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

Get Pittsburg and Philly (northern teams) in our HOT September weather. GO BUCS!!

  79. 2Anglican1609 Says:

All bulls–t with all those 1 pm games, the POS’S who make that schedule has never sat in that stadium at 1’O-freak’n clock…….TOTAL BS

  80. DB55 Says:

    Pick

My sarcasm is off the charts bruh 🤣😂😂😂

  81. Sailor Jerry Says:

If the NFL drops a suspension on Jameis then it may be better that our toughest opponents are at the start of the season.

Say it’s a two game suspension. Saints in NOLA followed by World Champ Eagles.

Jameis comes back and we go 10-4 remainder of the season. We finish 10-6 and make the playoffs.

    PS-Let me dream. Go Bucs.

  82. SB Says:

What hoover said in every one of his posts!!!

Oh noes! You’re my original “no excuses” guy then you give Nut a bunch. See you’re simply trying to be pragmatic.

As Ringo Starr once sang….”It Don’t Come Easy”. He could have been singing about the NFL!

    @Nut

Take all of your points unless your final prediction comes true. I think if we get Saquon we SHOULD win ten or more. He would simply be a major injection to the team at a position of need and a position that has a chance to really contribute bigtime from year one…unlike DL’s or OL’s or most other positions.

  84. Jjones Says:

Most of the people complaining really do love this team imo. There are a few posts here and there that can be taken the wrong way but I see that as passion not necessarily hate. I’m very optimistic about where this team could be but I’ll never be ignorant enough to say “your not a fan” because the comment might be controversial. If you don’t like it, don’t read it and move on. One poster on here was a special case because they made some pretty F’d comments about Dungys family(for which i will never repeat)and they’re in the cooler for a while but that was warranted. Besides that let people say what they feel about this team, maybe look up the definition of a fan/fanatic.

  85. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    JJ

Not to nitpick but it’s 2018 and you do not get to say the Bucs suck…yet.

You can say they sucked in 2017….mediocre in 16 But they haven’t done anything in ’18…the CURRENT year. You certainly could say that in your opinion they WILL suck.

  86. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @DB55

    “Pick

My sarcasm is off the charts bruh 🤣😂😂😂”

You and Pick remind me of the Spectrum Cable commercial with the grim reaper, zombie…evil puppet…where it has to be explained to the creature with the big ears…that the first guy was being sarcastic and then the second guy was sarcastic and so you have double sarcasm. LOL

  87. Jjones Says:

I can agree with that statement StPete bevause we’ve yet to see the product but that’s how we feel. Whoever is saying that, that’s how they feel and that’s fine too, doesn’t make them less of a fan than you and me.

  88. DB55 Says:

    Spbf

That’s great I just caught on. Smh. Lmao.

  89. Pickgrin Says:

Wait – is DB the grim reaper, the evil puppet or the big eared naive dude who needs the ‘splaining?? LOL

  90. DB55 Says:

Can I be the mummy. He cool

  91. SB Says:

  92. Buccfan37 Says:

My plastic Ouija board has the Bucks winning 2 out of the first 3. A win in the opener at the Saints and over the Steelers on MNF. I agree.

  93. Defense Rules Says:

Some very interesting predictions. You’re ALL probably wrong, but interesting predictions nonetheless. Answer 3 questions then make your predictions over again:

1 – Who will the Bucs AND each of our opponents draft, and how well will each of them perform this year?

2 – How many injuries to key players will the Bucs AND each of our opponents sustain this year, and for how long each?

3 – How will Jameis perform this year in key areas such as TDs, turnovers, etc, etc?

Could throw in several other questions for kicks, but the point is none of us are Nostradamus. Every year is different, and the team’s success depends on so many factors that none of us have any clue about in April. It’s PROBABLY a bear of a schedule (based on each opponent’s recent performances), but again, we’re all just speculating. Not the time to jump ship … and oh BTW Joe, FREE TMAX. (If in fact he’s in the doghouse … may just be an assumption on our part).

  94. Roy T. Buford Says:

DB55……I was sitting by the tunnel that game. I was directly in line with th3 goalpost that Bryant kicked it through.

One of the greatest moments I’d seen. That was the loudest I had ever heard that stadium. And it stayed loud for a good 5-10 mins after the game was over.

If you remember Bryant didn’t really have that strong of a leg back then. He had something special going that day. I remember him booming kicks pregame and then when he was kicking off everything was going through the end zone which was abnormal for him.

    ———–

I recall it being fairly windy that day…

  96. BucEmUp Says:

Lol 0 and 3 to start with Mike Smith’s soft zone defense getting shredded!!!!!

  97. feelthepewterpower Says:

Strength of schedule is dictated by a number of factors: weather, where the bye is located, are you playing at home after a bye or road, are opponents coming off a bye, how much rest between games does each team has, are any of the teams travelling to East or west coast’s from the opposite coast, injuries, when do you play that team (for instance Philly comes down and will play in the heat the second week), etc.

  98. Alonza Robertson Says:

With a home opener in the loud Superdome, and then two home games against the Eagles and Steelers, I think this bodes well, and is probably imperative, for us to do whatever we have to do to get Saquan Barkley in the first round.

Have a back that helps us control the time of possession, blunt crowd momentum, hold those defenses on their toes, and give our defense some rest. To start the season, we need to have something besides an obvious passing attack (where early season timing will probably not be optimal) if we can’t run. What do you think?

  99. Jerry Says:

We had a Thursday night home game last year. The league will usually rotate those. So I expected the Thursday game to be away.
