Ryan Jensen is your new Bucs offensive lineman.
That’s the word from Jenna Laine of ESPN. Laine reports that the Bucs and Jensen have come to terms.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network claims 27-year-old Jensen, formerly of the Ravens, inked a four-year, $42 million deal with $22 million guaranteed.
The question Joe has, are the Bucs moving Jensen to center and taking a very pubic admission that Ali Marpet at center was a con and a waste of a season, or is Jensen a guard?
Curious minds want to know.

I don’t think it is a reflection on Marpet’s play/potential at center….it is simply the smartest thing to do…Marpet is an excellent young guard…this FA period it was easier the find a young FA center than guard that fits the Buc going into this season

Jensen at center is what I’m seeing. Another failed experiment by these boneheads. Great signing IF he is playing center, moving Marpet back. A true center is what theyve needed. Since they refuse to find anyone who can sniff a qb, I guess theyre planning on running the ball and playing keep away. Better idea than not. Now lets hope sittin back smitty can scrap together a 4 man rush somehow with the mush licht slaps on his plate

It would be foolish to not move Marpet back to OG because of pride. Last year is done, we were 5-11. Our Marpet back at Guard, where he excels, and let him mail people.
I understand your point of a wasted year of development for Marpet, but I’d rather it just be one year vs. letting him exceed at OG!
Having two guys that can handle the center duty is a far cry from the days of Garret Gilkey!

Marpet moving to C was strictly a personnel issue. He’s going back to his natural position. No need to experiment anymore. They each are solid at their respective positions. It would be foolish to experiment now when it’s clear Marpet had growing pains at C. It’s not that he can’t be a solid C some day, but now it’s not necessary.

All I know is that he looked like an ascending Right Guard to me, and being a long time listener of the Ira Kaufman podcast, I know the sage of Tampa Bay agrees.
He had a higher degree of success RG than at Center.
And the guy we just signed to a 4 year 42 million dollar deal, just had the best season of his career starting 16 games at Center. Bring him in to play guard would be more perplexing to me than moving Ali back to his previous position.

There is no shame in moving marpet back to guard. Maybe they felt he was the best center last season. Maybe they still see him as being developed into a guard but don’t want to wait and see. Who cares at least they signed someone.
Problem still remains that every time the Bucs don’t score the opposing team is almost guaranteed to.score every time.

Marpet moving to center was not a waste because he proved he can do it. Injuries happen and if needed he can move to center or guard at any time it’s needed this season. There is no need to admit to it being a success or a failure. The 2017 season was a complete failure and who going to say it was because of marpet moving to center?
Sweezy needs to step up and earn his paycheck because it appears he’s now the weak link

I know some don’t put much in PFF but they did rate Marpet as the 7th best Center last season which is a few spots higher than Jensen. Love the signing and it doesn’t really matter who plays where. The good news is that we actually addressed a position of need and we now have excellent depth at C regardless of who starts there.

It could be argued that the major impetus for moving Marpet to Center in the first place was just because Licht wanted to validate the Sweezy deal.
How about this Joe, regardless of whatever that anonymous Bucs official had to say off the record, can we at least agree that Marpet was a whole lot better at Right Guard than Sweezy?

Joe, if Marpet was drafted to be a center then why didn’t he start at center his rookie year. He was a center last year best they didn’t have a good center. He is a better guard then he is a center.

Well considering how dumb the Bucs were for moving Marpet, a near all-pro level guard to center, I guess we can expect them to double down on their mistake and make Jensen a guard and keep Marpet at center.
Anywho if they move Marpet back, that is obviously the smart thing to do, and no, it’s not a wasted year since it means Marpet is now cross trained for 2 positions, which is never a bad thing. Now wasting an entire year to cross train a guy is dumb, you should do that in say preseason, but hey, it’s done.
Lets just hope that Dirk and gang do the right thing.

Why is it so bad if the Licht and Koetter “admit” that moving Marpet to Center was a mistake? They come out and say, we did what we thought was best for the team last year based on the available personnel in moving Ali to Center, and are doing it again this year by moving him back to Guard.
I just don’t see why this is such a bad thing.

DB55 – $7m a year isn’t pro-bowler money, the guy from Carolina got $13m as a guard, that is now what pro-bowl money is. This is just a nice signing, a guy that is an upgrade at center and who now lets Marpet move back to guard where he should play at an all-pro level.

PLEASE don’t screw this up Bucs. Jensen is a great signing because he has experience at C, RG & LG … great flexibility on the interior OLine. Marpet is a much better RG than he is a C. Moving Ali back to RG gives us the option now to release Sweezy & bring on EITHER a C or LG (via FA or draft) to flesh out our OLine. Still need much better depth than we now have, but re-signing Pamphile & E. Smith for reasonable $$$ could take care of that in a hurry.

So happy they finally made a move.!! Almost 80 hours on hunger strike is something I hope to never relive.
Do they pass on Nelson now if he becomes avialable?
And it’s very concerning to me that the team just keeps adding pieces to the offense. It’s been 5 offseason of building up one side of the ball with no results. While I will be hopeful they can finally get on the scoreboard and give us some leads I will not be confident til it shows up on Sundays.

Jensen is a true center. In the best interest of the team, the Bucs have to move Marpet back to right guard where he was playing at a high level, next move Sweezy to left guard and have him compete for the job. At this point Sweezy is just not reliable.

Joe my opinion is they are moving Ali to guard where he is dominant at,putting Jensen at center and than drafting another OLinemen to fix the offensive line and that should help improve the running game by quite a bit wether it be Barkley,Guice, or Barber pounding the rock.if we can settle the Offensive Line then the running back position should fall in place and MAYBE,JUST MAYBE our first round draft pick can be used defensively.Chubbs or Fitzpatrick would be a Uuuuuge upgrade.

Again… every single guard drafted in the top 10 since 2000 was a bust for the team that drafted him.
There’s only been 3, and all 3 were busts.
Drafting a guard in the top 10 is a very bad value since you can get really good guards in the 2nd and 3rd all day long. If the Bucs get Nelson then so be it, but he’s going to have to break that trend of top 10 guards and he’s going to have to be a pro-bowler from day 1 to be worth that pick.
Also yes, I get it, he’s special, he’s great, blah blah blah. So was every other top 10 guard taken.

BR has Marpet ranked 10th at center and Jensen at 8 based on last season. Marpet also had a shortened season. So, from a finance point of view, Jensen should be C. Has he played G before? We need to shore up the RG position so it makes sense to put Marpet back at G. With Pamphile at LG, this only means that Sweezy is going to get released.

Ryan Jensen is a great signing. He is young (26) and can play the run and pass protect as well. Move Marpet to guard and draft Nelson or Herenandez. Which means we need one more FA signing..a CB. If Licht can pull this off all will be right in One Buc Town.

If the Bucs do release Sweezy they should consider bringing back Pamphile since he can play everywhere and is good depth. Then you can draft a guy and be set knowing Pamphile could start if the rookie is terrible. I’m not anti-Sweezy, I might keep him and let him compete, but I’d rather find a spot for Pamphile since he can play all positions.

1. Thank you Glazers and Jason Licht for pulling this off, and calming the masses down to a degree
2. This move is almost like 2 FA pick ups, with moving Ali back to G ( his best spot and damn good guard)
3. Anyone that says Jensen has only had one good year, and didn’t even play his 1st season and blah blah, that’s a good thing, less wear and tear and maybe he even get better, pay for what’s to come not what’s been done
4. It’s an attitude the line needs, Sweezy was supposed to be that and he hasn’t and now probably wont. If he is cut, his salary this season is 6.5+625,000 for a 7.125m Cap hit, take Gholston 6.5 and get it reduced or cut him (we have run stuffers to replace him now) and that’s more than Jensen Cap hit, thats 13.624m
5. Any top FA at their respected position will almost always be the new top paid player at their position, due to increase in cap space every year. Last year was Linder from the Jags, and Richburg is making 9.5 and coming off a concussion
6. Love the move, I’m eating crow on this one, and I wrote down at my desk last night 5 yrs 47.5m and 22.5 G money, wasn’t too far off

Rod Munch I’m with ya. I wouldn’t mind letting Sweezy compete. Though they may have to release him for financial reasons.
Good thing for us is there is depth at the guard position in the draft so we have many options.
I still think they have to get Nelson of both Chubb and Barkley are gone. I wanted Chub first and Nelson second….but with this signing I gotta have Barkley sencond based on need.

My good man, you are actually one of the people I loook at on here as a very knowledge football fan, I also respect your opinion and usually agree with you. You also are not the only poster I have seen that has stated the fact about drafting a guard in the top 10. I know it is by no means a sexy pick and I believe your a actual fan of the Bucs, others I feel are no longer deep down even fans anymore as they literally criticize every move, and most people who comment if it goes against their belief. But with that being said, I AGREE with you about no guards have worked that high, but this kid has me convinced that he will anchor a line as a perennial all pro for years to come. So with so much uncertainty in the draft I view him as the surest thing this year. Of coarse I could be wrong, but if I am right, it would indeed be scary. You of all people understand everything that it benefits to have a dominant Oline. That is one thing that will never change in the Nfl, no matter what style offense you run, dominant line equals playoff contention.

At this point with very few impact defenders available or willing to go after. I wouldn’t mind keeping Sweezy for depth, we could do far worse. Also like the idea of Phamphile as a swiss army knife back up. But Im not sold on Phamphile as a starter at this point.

Well I have no idea who the other guards drafted top ten were but how many of them were taken or being consider to be a top five guy?
How many of them were considered the safest prospect in the draft or were given such high grades by the pundits?
I’m just asking I don’t know. But the comparison could not be the best in the world. Most of 5he analysts sound pretty dang confident that Nelson is a sure fire difference maker. And yeah, I’m well aware these guys miss a ton on their evaluations. But they also dont sound extremely confident very often.
The two guys that I’ve heard the most confidence about have been Nelson and Barkley……Only time will tell.

1988…..I think there’s a very good chance that 4 QBs get drafted ahead of us. Not sure we will be in the trade market which may be a better situation if Chubb or Barkley drops to us.
This draft will be a lot of fun with so many QBs being seen as possible franchise guys. The Bucs seem to be sitting at the turning point spot. Either all the QBs will be gone leaving top 5 talent for us or Licht is beating off the trade offers which should give us better then just a extra #2.

Rod Munch. Just want to let you know that you make an absolutely horrible case for you credibility when you suggest we not cut Sweezy immediately.
The guy is due 6.5 million with a 7 million cap hit if we keep him. And he is NOT even medically cleared to play right now.
No offense, but based on your sentiment regarding Sweezy, only turns your negative opinion of drafting Nelson into a ringing endorsement.

Off subject but, im not into the Curry fan section. He is a good player but Imo and if you look at career stats id keep Ayers over Curry. He is not a beast pass rusher by no means, and we have plenty of De’s who are solid but not high sack guys. Do we need a pass rusher , of coarse we do, but i dont think Curry would be the guy to address that. Lets hope Spence stays healthy all year and blossoms, also got a hunch our whole Dline unit will step up their games this year and be more productive in the sack category.

If not, no biggie…Take either Chubb or Nelson and I’m cool with that….No more DB’s at high 1st round as we always screw that up (Mark Barron / VHIII)

Dan I hear ya with that. My only concern is keeping Ayers on the field too much. I would not mind seeing them bring in some more rotational ends.
While you may not increase the overall talent of who is on the field keeping guys fresh was something we didn’t get last year. Give me a fresh Ayers in the fourth quater who can empty his tank knowing the other team has to throw and maybe that’s what this defense needs.
Of course the offense has to hold up its end of th3 bargain. Still waiting for that one.

@DB55. I read that he’s top paid ever from a couple different places also. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are some team friendly clauses in that contract to level out the cash.

DanBucsFan – I’m not gonna cry if the Bucs draft Nelson, I just don’t think it’s a good value pick when the team so badly needs defensive players and I really think you can get a guard in the 2nd and 3rd round.
Take Leonard Davis for example, in 2001 he was the #2 overall pick right behind Michael Vick, he was as much of a can’t miss prospect as there ever was… and he was a complete bust in Arizona. He did have a nice run with the Cowboys to end his career, but that Arizona rook him at #2 as the can’t miss prospect of the century. That doesn’t mean Nelson won’t be good obviously, it’s just that guys like Marpet can be found in the 2nd and 3rd.
If Nelson is drafted I’d hope, assume, pray he’s starting day 1. On paper that is now a formattable offensive line – assuming they do put Marpet back at guard – so I can certainly see the appeal. But at the same time they just skipped over a defensive player they also badly need. Perhaps the idea is forget defense we’re just going to outscore people, and if so, well this is the way to do it. But I really think you can get a guy in the 2nd or 3rd that will be 90% of Nelson for a much lower price.

DB55 – I was saying if Jensen, as you said and as I fear, is actually going to play guard and not center, in that case he’s not getting anywhere close to 2018 pro-bowl money. Hopefully they’ll be smart enough to play him at center, but I really don’t know with Dirk, I can totally see them saying Marpet stays at center just because they then think it means they don’t have to admit a mistake.

Bonzai – Jensen only played center for one season, that was last year, before that he was a backup guard. That’s why I fear, and it’s a legit fear, the team says he’s a guard and moves him there while keeping Marpet at center.

I really like this guy, he is mean and young. We would be better off playing Jensen at center and moving Marpet to guard. Whatever RB we end up drafting and Barber will have a dream of a time running behind those 2 guys.
I hope we sign Kony Ealy. He will give us a solid younger DE with plenty of experience and still has a lot of potential with his age.
Hopefully we sign at least one corner, safety, DE, OT, and RB. I realize we probably won’t sign all the positions but each one still has some talent available.

Rod I think it all boils down to how highly Licht has Nelson rated. If say Ward is the next highest defensive player behind Nelson but they see a large margin between the two they better get Nelson if they know what’s good for em.
If they have Ward barely behind Nelson as a prospect then yes get Ward because that need is so much greater then guard.
Just used Ward as an example based on mocks. You could use any other name you wish……Bottom line is we got a very high pick and if you’re not getting top ten talent you’re effing up. All depends on the evaluations.

Apparently, this guy is extremely injury prone, from top to bottom. Last year was his first complete season out of 4 seasons.
That’s a lot of money for a guy that will likely end up on Injured Reserve one he stubs a toe.
I actually do NOT like this signing. But hey, I’m sure that, because it took a chunk of change to get him, many here are happy.
The reason I don’t like this signing are:

MadMax, I am leaning toward him playing guard. I just think the Bucs want Marpet at center and Marpet has the chemistry with Jameis already. The run blocking woes had nothing to do with Marpet. They had to do with the guard positions.
At least that’s what I think…which has no value at all.

I would love to draft Nelson but, at #7? Looks like they’re playing FA about as safe as they can by bringing in the right mix of good character and toughness which leads me to believe they’ll follow suit in the draft. Not saying Nelson doesn’t posses any of those traits but Bucs aren’t gambling to hard, and an OG at #7 would be a gamble for Licht. Take the safest player at #7 that would be the best fit for our locker room. If it’s Nelson and it works so be it, I just don’t see them leaning that way.

I have been pulling for Jensen and moving Marpet back to RG. I have to give Licht credit for at last seeing the importance of that and making it happen. Sweezy needs to be cut because unfortunately his back operation caused him to lose flexibility and he no longer can get low enough to be effective. We do definitely need to keep Pamphile as a Swiss Knife backup for all the Guard and Tackle positions. Then move down with) Buffalo and get two first picks and take Davenport (yes he’s a raw talent but our DL Coach can coach him up) and then get Penny (the highest yardage of any back and can return kicks for touchdowns). Then with our second round pick get Hernandez for LG. With the third pick take Tackle Brown to be able to either replace Dotson if injured or when he retires, and just in case LT Smith continues being a turnstyle and doing holding penalties Brown can step in and play LT like his famous NFL Dad.
Fourth Round get best CB available, (Licht still needs to sign a Free Agent CB and a Free Agent Safety unless they move Tandy Man to play CB like he played at WVa)

How fat is this guy? Didn’t we sign a 330 pounder yesterday. I think that other guy was fat too. Don’t underestimate fat physical guys in this game. I don’t know much about those two Dlineman they got yesterday but if they bring some physicality to this team I am all for it. Softness was our biggest problem last year.
One thing that has bothered me for the longest time with this team is how soft we are when it comes to one yard. You go back and look at how soft we were last year on one-yard plays and it was pathetic on both sides of the ball. These plays are not only often very critical in deciding games but they make a big difference in the mentality of a team. If these signings bring nothing more then give us a great short yardage team it will be a major success IMO.

Gholston is a frighten softass too. They better have a danged good reason to bring that guy back if they do. Dude is the biggest guy on the field and plays like a teddy bear. He was the best player on the field I though in the home opener against the Bears then just disappeared.
Frighten leadership needs to step this year. You got a guy like Gholston not playing his bes5 get up in his face or get him the heck out of he can’t hack it. Don’t just let the guy play teddy bear football all year. It’s counterproductive to anybody playing near him.

THIS signing PROVES that the Glazers are all-in this year on the team and 100% ALL-IN ON JAMEIS … they just handed Jensen the largest contract in NFL history for a center … to protect Jameis.

NOW … I’ve heard many different figures of what we actually have left to spend ranging from just $2mil to $7.5mil all the way up to $17.5mil … can someone clarify this with any accuracy?
The Honey Badger would have been a great signing and he just went cheap with a 1 year $7mil deal to the Texans … I’m pretty shocked as I figured he’d sign with a contender and the Texans suck though they do play in the worst division in the NFL and could sneak into the playoffs as a wildcard if Deshaun Watson can manage to stay healthy.

As for the Marpet G/C thing … I think it’s obvious he’s moving back to guard … Jensen was likely told he’d have to play guard in Indy as they spent a 1st round pick on C Ryan Kelly just recently, so Jensen said, “nope, I’m playing center in Tampa!”
I don’t think going guard with our #7 pick fills anywhere near the biggest need now, but man, an O-Line of: Smith/Nelson/Jense/Marpet/Dotson … THAT could be the best O-Line in the entire NFL … seriously.

NFL NUT…..I am not a hater…..but I was walking my way to the edge of the plank…..Yes I was a whiner, a crybaby I must admit. I am too much of a diehard fan and I panicked. I was so afraid this team was not going to make a move. I tried to hold it in but the fear turn into panic which turned to rebellion.
I was so distraught I went on a hunger strike that lasted 80 hours. I’m happy to inform you that the signing of Jensen ended my strike and my belly is now filled with pork chops and spegetti and meatballs.
I’m sorry I’m so pationate about my team. I realize it’s an unhealthy obsession. I also realize that my obsession actually hurts the team. They had to overpay to get Jensen to settle down the fans and end my strike. Now they have less money to spend elsewhere.
It’s just so difficult to be patient with this team, even with Winston, when we have been so bad for 16 back to back seasons.

@Jimmy Im with ya a little….was giving up hope then started watching basketball and said F it….they’ll do what they do. Reset myself and reassessed things a little and low and behold it hit me. All of the FA’s that burned us the past few years. So we plow through the FA field very carefully and thats what we did. GJ Licht! Still wanted a DE signing but I dont know enough to get after it like a GM (or paid enough).
But still need a DB and RB signing IMHO.

JimmyJack- I got a feeling Buckner gonna bring the Dawg outta our whole defense, not just the line but whole defense. Im predicting that Buckner makes such an impact with our line that he gets promoted to defensive coordinator after Smitty’s contract expires. I remember teading in Arizona several key players saying he was defensive coordinator material. Hopefully Im correct as most people are ready to run Smith out of town, but I doubt team Glazier wants to eat his contract one year after paying him top dollar to stay, time will tell. But one thing we all must admit, we have gotten tougher in the trenches so far through free agency. GO BUCS I AM A BELIEVER !!!

@JimmyJack. The way we get Barkley is we sacrifice the entire rest of the draft a la Mike Ditka. Ain’t happening. There is no way Barkley gets out of top 3. I expect him to go to Cleveland #1 overall. Doubtful that Chubb drops to us also. Even Nelson will likely be gonzo with the immense need of O Line talent in the draft. I’m circling the wagons for Denzel Ward. 4.32 40 time. Derwin James is a possibility but somewhat of a reach. Did I mention that Ward ran a 4.32 40?

So they move him to Center,
A lower payed, less critical component to the Oline.
Thats what you do with hard workers, who cant cut it at guard.
Now the move to center makes sense.
But today- they signed a center.
Does that mean They consider Marpet a bust?

Max……One thing that I believe to be true with Licht is that he always looks a year into the future when he makes decisions.
I believe he did that when we needed a QB in his first year. His plan was to make a move in 2015.
I believe he did that last year not getting a RB til late realizing this year has another deep RB class.
I also believe Licht will take into account that next year is said to have a deep DE class. I don’t think he will be making power moves to get Ends in this draft.
Bucs fans may have to come to terms with pass rush still being a weakness on our team. That’s not Ideal but I’m OK with it if we can get an improved secondary and rushing game. Reguardless, there is no excuse to have as horrible a pass rush as we had last year. I don’t consider that product to be NFL caliber.

Cmurda – James would be a excellent pick , IMO he has game changer skills and will be a pro bowl ss in a couple years. I know most will disagree but I prefer him over Fitzpatrick on our team as we have a promising fs in Evans. Evans and James as our starting safeties for next 5 -6 years looks good to me. So many options, I can’t wait till draft, whoever we get will be a welcome addition.

If that’s the case Capt Tim, then we might as well fold our hand right now. I know what my eyes tell me and even with Marpet not being a stud at Center, he was still our best O Lineman, again. He was a beast at RG. If the Bucs scouting and hierarchy think Marpet isn’t cutting the mustard, then we are doomed because they clearly have no personnel skills. Come to think of it. There might be some truth to that. Michael Bennett, Blount, Talib. I can go on and on.

Max….I’m sure good DEs can And will be had in this draft. I just don’t think the Bucs will make a big move to get one. I think then will and should draft one.
In my opinion if I was hoping for Landry I’d be hoping they trade out of pick 7 and get something closer to his stock. I don’t see them making a trade back into the first round into to 20’s. That would be costly. Maybe if Landry drops significantly

Joe, the Bucs tried Ali Marpet at center and now he has experience there. It wasn’t a mistake to try to put your best five linemen on the field. Costa RICO…..I kinda half agree and disagree with ya. The constant flip flopping of Marpet is just poor evaluation. Getting Phampile on the field as “one of our best players” was another example.
Had they addressed the positions properly we could have a line with more continuity coming into the season.
At the end, Jensen sounds like a nice addition and I can’t be upset about that. But I can still be upset with bad personal decisions(Doug Martin-like) giving us horrible results essentially wasting a season.

I’ll never understand why fans worry about contracts for. Sure, it would make sense if the team had limited cap space but that’s not the case.
You want to complain about wasting money on Baker or Djax that’s for air.
But with Jensen I just don’t understand. Same with the other guys we signed. All that should matter are results. If they provide them there’s really nothing to gripe about.

What do you think of Mike Pouncey? He’s a 3x pro bowler, first round pick, 15th overall, he’s played center for Miami his whole career so the heat ain’t no thing, he just finished at 35 mil contract so 45 would be a raise and he’d be able to stay at home.

On the night a 16 takes out a one seed (props to those kids from UMBC) the Bucs actually make a decent signing. I hear what Lakeland is saying though, the contract is a LOT of coin that could and should be used on D but perhaps the Bucs will still nail down the Honey Badger but it does seem that Licht does not want to improve CB or edge rusher until the draft for whatever reason…… Bucs still have lots of coin to play with, hopefully they use it wisely.

I disagree with you. Jensen was the top C on the market and got just slightly above the injured Richburg guy the 49’ers signed …
Also, the Colts wanted Jensen BAD … but I believe they told him he’d have to play guard as they already spent a 1st rounder on their C a couple years ago, and Jensen wants to play C, so viola, he’s a Buccaneer.
I LOVE the Jensen signing as it improves two positions on our line (C and OG) and while I would have LOVED to have the Honey Badger, (a) “C” is more important than safety, (b) Honey Badgers injury history is concerning and (c) the Jensen signing did NOT prevent us from signing the Badger as he only got $7mil … my guess is that either Licht wasn’t all that interested in him due to the injuries or that he told Badger he’s have to play SS and Houston told Tyrann he can play nickel and FS and he preferred that.
Anyways, I believe we still have enough cap space to sign a true SS like Tre Boston, Kenny Vaccaro or Eric Reid and a #2 CB like EJ Gaines or Brashaud Breeland and I’d like to see that happen next.

The Bucs need to get the defense right, that is a top priority
42 million is too much to invest in a interior OL
They has the worst pass defense in the NFL
And they are not trying address the problems
They can’t rely on the 35 year old Brent Grimes to play 16+ games
They still need RBs, CBs, Safety, OT, OG, DEs
They can’t rely on Demar Dotson to play 16 games
They can’t rely on JR Sweezy to play 16 games
If they move Marpet back to OG
They would still need another OG, Sweezy is garbage, when he’s not hurt
Now they have to depend on the draft
I just can’t view this as a good signing
If it was a reach for a Edge Rusher or CB, then yeah I”m on board
But I can’t get on board with this

I totally misread his contract number, I thought he got $7m when he got $10m, no idea how I did that. Wow, that actually is quite a bit more expensive than I was thinking earlier. I’d assume that means Sweezy will be gone – but still leaves a big hole at the other G without Pamphile. I’m not sure what Pamphile is going to get but if he’s responsible I’d be bringing him back along with drafting a guy.

To Nut’s comment I would add that honey badger needs to play in a super flexible defensive system that lets him improvise to utilize his play making talent. I don’t think he would fit in the tightly structured, assignment-oriented defense Smith uses.

Bruh, Leonard Davis was an ALL-AMERICAN LEFT TACKLE at Texas.
He was drafted to protect Jake Plummer’s blind side.
But Coach Dave McGinnins, played him at right guard his rookie season – allowing the young brotha – a chance to get acclaimed to NFL (Not Uncommon).
And real talk – he played well at guard – his rookie season.
Sh!t he even looked tailor made for the position. Futue All-Pro potential.
As expected (natural progession G,RT,LT) the following season they moved him out to RT- But things didn’t workout to well. So they kicked him back inside to guard.
But when McGinnins was fired and Dennis Green (R.I.P) took over.
So Dennis Green – Moved Davis over to play LT.
And that’s when the wheels came off the bus. Dude had terrible feet – and wasn’t technical sound. Henceforth his record-breaking penalty count. So after a couple seasons – the team moved on.
Dallas saw what everyone else saw. And wisely moved the brotha back to guard.

^ I hate the Viti Vea at #7 idea … just detest it. The draft is soooooo deep at the DT position that I’d probably throw something at the tv if they use the #7 pick on a DT … Taven Bryant could go 2nd round and be better than Viti … Harrison Phillips and Derrick Nnandi could go late 2nd to late 3rd and be fantastic, etc.
To me, we either take Saquon, Chubb, Nelson or TRADE DOWN, period.
I could see Licht maybe taking Ward or Fitzpatrick … and that could work as well, but to me a trade down makes more sense …

Lambchop, Arkansas Fan here, Ragnow started his career at Arkansas as the right guard. Last two seasons exclusively at center. At one point there was discussion to play him at tackle due to injuries but never happened. Really good technical and physical player. Nagging injuries and an awful team for senior season kicked him out of the first round. Started halfway through freshman season and never gave up a sack. He is a better center IMO, would be worthy of trading back into the third to acquire.
Those crushing Marpet for his center play, go watch the film and watch the play on each shoulder. He was covering for poor guard play a ton this season. Especially, left guard.

From what I see, Ragnow is projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder (doubt he’ll fall that far but might). I tend to think that Licht is trying to leave himself tons of flexibility with the #7 pick … grab BPA who falls to that position (he’s probably hoping either Chubb or Bradley falls that far down).

I just find it hard to believe that a regime that wouldn’t give up on Doug Martin as their starting RB, wouldn’t give up on VH3 as an outside CB, and wouldn’t give up on Aguyo after awful seasons would give up on Marpet at Center after a decent season.
Ryan Jensen played Guard before moving to Center. Wouldn’t shock me if they tried him there during the offseason.

I say we trade #7 this year in the draft for #12 & #22 to the bills and use #12 and this year’s 3rd rounder and next year’s 3rd and 6th to draft back up to 8 or #9,draft Nelson and at 22 trade OUT of the first round to acquire more picks and with our 2nd rounder get Guice.problem solved at O Line and RB in one night.this O Line is starting to look mean specially if sweezy can stay healthy and marpet going back to guard.

Only time will tell and Jensen did play increasingly better at the center position for B.

I love this move because it allows Marpet to go back ton RG where he can mail people. And it’s in ice to know that we have two competent centers in a pinch. Versatility is key.

You really should rename your webiste “Fans Critical of the Bucs,” because no matter what the Bucs do it’s not good enough for you all.
No, the Ali Marpat to center move wasn’t a failure. It was an effort to improve the offensive line. because the Bucs had J. R. Sweezy and wanted to put the five best and biggest offensive linemen on the roster on the field at the same time. Because Marpat could play center effectively, perhaps not to a Pro Bowl level yet, they started him at center.
Now, with Ryan Jensen on the roster, he’s apparently the “best” center which allows the Bucs to perhaps start him at center and move Marpat back to guard, which may be Ali’s most natural position. Therefore, the whole offensive line is improved.
The next step is to improve the left guard position (can we get Quenton Nelson) and the o-line should be cooking with gas.

Hope Jensen works out, but I do see the similarities in some of Licht’ s free agency signings. 9 starts in 4 years prior to 2017 as Lakeland pointed out.
Licht often signs backups or players with injury issues swinging for the fences.
Hope he hits it over the wall on this one,he is due.

In no way did I think they’d be able to make a move to put Ali back to guard. Nor did I think they’d get the help at defensive tackle that they did either. Great puzzle pieces to add. Now they gotta kill that draft! I’m still not sold on sweezy at all. He needs to make his game play production to his fat contract! I wanna see a way meaner sweezy this year! A determined one to mow down any for who steps in his direction.

This FA Licht don’t sign useless and expensive “big name”. And, for me, this is the right move. A lot of time, big name = big money = bad production.
Use cap space to re-sign the young core of our roster and continue to build a talent group of players, signing the right player for our system, i think is the best way we can win now and in future.
