Report: Chucky Is Chasing Doug Martin

This afternoon, NFL Network reporter/insider Twittered that the ol’ Super Bowl ball coach himself, Chucky, has his eyes set on the NFL’s worst running back over the last two seasons. His name is Doug Martin.
Sources: #Raiders coach Jon Gruden recently arranged for a face-to-face meeting with former #Bucs RB Doug Martin and came away impressed with him as a person. Oakland expected to make a strong push for Martin in free agency.

Odd that Rapoport says Chucky will make a strong push for Martin in free agency, considering Martin already is free and clear to sign with anyone.
This afternoon, Joe is very happy Chucky is not coaching the Bucs.
What next? Will Chris Baker sign a $3 million deal to play for a top defensive mind? Oh, wait, that already happened this week.

Martin might get a contract just based off his game at Oakland years ago.
Whether it’s drugs, suspension, or inconsistent performance, farewell Muscle Hamster! Good luck, and I’m glad the Buccaneers aren’t banking on him this year.

lolol I doubt it happens but imagine if Martin becomes a 1,000 yard back under Gruden? It would be our luck and consistent with how players have done since we have let them go.

I’d give that about a 50% chance of happening with Doug and a 12% chance with Swaggy. It would be quite the indictment on this coaching staff though…

So Chucky came away impressed with Doug as a person. I think Doug was popular as a person here even with the drug issues.
It’s as a football player that left us unimpressed.

Again..Former Buc players are notorius for going elsewhere and doing well. I expect Martin to do the same. And WE..are in no position to laugh at nobody. Finishing with that stellar 5-12 winning record this past season. A change of venue, new settings, a coach who..knows how to put players in position to win,..Doug might yet have another 1000 yrd season. And when he does, I’m gonna laugh and say. BucLife baby!! I hope Chucky picks him up and I hope Doug Martin does well.

Maybe since Martin was born in Oakland Chucky feels it could resurrect his career. If …and I say it lightly if Hamster has a great year we can attribute it to the fact that most players coming out of college consider being drafted by the Buc’s as a curse to there dreams. He wouldn’t be the only high draft pick who left the Bucs to go and have a better career. The best cure is winning and unfortunately the Bucs historically fall short of those goals annually. no joke .387 franchise winning percentage. You have to have rhino skin to be a real Buc fan.

Doug’s problem was motivation. What’s Grudens strongest aspect as a coach? Motivation. Doug would be productive for Chucky.

One could figure Doug’s problems were drug related. I don’t know if that had anything to do with his lack of production but if so and he kicks the habit you could see him be productive once again. It wouldn’t shock me is all I’m saying, it also wouldn’t shock me if he peddles out his 2.9 ypc or gets injured most of his next season.

Assuming he’s healthy and plays Martin will easily clear 1100 yards at 4.5ypc if he goes to Oakland. Meanwhile Joe will keep on saying Martin is terrible and the offensive line and the playcalling isn’t an issue.

Well the good thing is Chucky is back coaching and we can see if the Chucky haters are right about him.
Could be Chucky knows how to get some good production out of Martin. He was always good at resurrecting careers.
Like Galloway and Antonio Bryant.
Thank goodness we have the great Dirk Koetter rather than Chucky. Dirk would never do anything like count on Doug Martin. Oh wait…..

This is just Chucky trying to “stick it” to the Bucs. He’s got some big balls that I’m not sure Koetter has. Shots fired by Gruden! It will be like him saying to the Glazers,” Look, “I” can do what YOUR coach can’t”! Call it competitive or petty, but I call it BALLS 🏈!

Doug isn’t past his prime, he’s still got at least one season left in him – the issue in Tampa was the God awful predictable playcalling. Dirk call first down rush between the tackles on about 70% of 1st downs in the first halves of game, and he seemingly didn’t use a 1st down play action pass until around week 13. Teams stacked the box on 1st down and Dirk would just run straight up the gut and Martin has to dodge 3 guys just to get to the LOS. The few times he actually did have any sort of clearing he still showed very good burst, and seemingly whenever that happened the play would then get called back for holding.
Gruden does love old washed up players, like giving an injured Charlie Garner $5m when that was still a lot of money. But Martin isn’t a broken down always injured 32 year old.

DM needed to go but if he can go get another contract and put a solid performance that would be awesome for him. I agree with others here who think if Martin or Baker have solid performances this coming year it is very indicative of the coaching staffs inability to coach

Chucky will spend the rest of his days trying to stick it to the Bucs in one way, shape or form. Reviving Martin in any way would please Gruden to no end. Back to back years of sub-3yards/carry says it all. Well…that and the drug suspension coming off a new contract signing when the Bucs needed him most.

gruden has a chip on his napoleon shoulder against the bucs…if he can resurrect martin it will make the bucs look stupid – making the bucs look stupid is a gruden goal, thanks to the glazers…
on another note, i highly doubt we will ever have another 5-12 season… check the above thread ^^^
also i have an authentic doug martin bucs jersey that he signed as i hung outside postgame, where the players leave the stadium…he signed and was super nic,e during his rookie year…after the game i went back to the hotel and layed pipe and dropped raw sewage on my slim buxom girlfriend, and prolly got a little dna on that jersey too…useless dang jersey…maybe i can add an “o” and make it a freddie martino jersey…lol…who am i kidding!

Gruden makes his team practice and holds players accountable. So Doug has a shot to bounce back for sure. Its obvious guys get away with as little as the coaches let them here. The same coaches who seem to wana take the easy road too. Its becoming crystal clear to me the coaching staff here is in way over their heads. But since I must roll with them next season I hope they learned some lessons and adjust accordingly. Ahhhh hope
