(For those wondering about all those hyphenated adjectives, they refer to Talib’s moronic behavior through his Bucs history, and there’s more where those came from.)
Talib, the now 32-year-old, first-round pick of the Bucs in the 2008 NFL Draft, had been rumored to be a likely salary cut by the Denver Broncos. Talib had a bit of a down season last year and still made the Pro Bowl, but Denver is allegedly disinterested in paying him the $11 million owed him this season.
Speculation has swirled for weeks, and Joe has suggested trading for Talib. But now Talib personally has jumped into the chatter with a Twittering of his own this evening (shown below).

That sure smells like a player who knows he’ll have a new team before — or just after — the free agency dinner bell rings in 14 short days.
The Bucs need help at cornerback and Tampa Bay is not exactly an attractive destination for a quality corner with options on the free agency market. If the Bucs could score Talib tomorrow for a fifth-round draft pick, then Joe would stand and applaud.
Joe has talked to Talib in recent years and he retains a lot of love for Tampa, and he personally told Joe how much he felt he let down Team Glazer during his Tampa days. Joe has no concerns about Talib thriving as a Buccaneer, though that surely would include the inevitable nonsense that follows him.

I would love Talib back home, but hopefully he gets released n we can get him for around 8 million. Now I am not one to complain about salaries especially when its not me who is signing the check, but I do know we have several holes to plug and although we have a large amount of cap space, we will also need $ to extend our own players in the near future. If we can pick up Talib, and Grimes for another year, we should without doubt draft at least one cb to groom behind Talib and Grimes. DON’T MESS THIS UP LICHT !! Go BUCS

Btw giving a seventh for Talib is wining football but Licht likes to think he is some GM super hero and constantly just flat out makes things harder than need be ….. Give a seven and solve one of your Six glaring holes of which if you are really lucky the draft may address one, maybe ??

Why Talib , because the Bucs have no , none ,notta a starting corner and Talib does what half this team doesn’t and that is play w passion !! And and he’s still easily top 10 at his position every down of every game and how many Bucs can you say that about ??? Maybe L David , Maybe ??

Why the hell should we pay him 11 million? We ain’t going nowhere signing old over the hill players out of desperation. Trade for that salary? Might as well outbid people for the Rams corner and we’d still end up paying less plus keep our draft picks. Sign talib sure but give up a pick and pay that kind of money….. Licht would get fired for making a stupid desperate move like that whether we will or not

We don’t need Talib, we will be ok. All we have to do is draft a RB, RT, DT, DE, DE, CB, CB, S and a RG. Or maybe we just go more weapons for Winston. Add another TE and WR?

Licht should already be fired – one of the top CBs in the NFL was traded for peanuts and we couldn’t match that? Peters was cheap too given the current market for top CBs and we could have had him for two years under market value.

It’s sad when a good chunk of the posters here with no NFL experience could field a better team than Licht. This waiting game if we are going for Talib is dumb, make a move like several have suggested and trade a 7th for him.

You’d really spend major $$$ on two CBs AND use the #7 pick on a CB? I couldn’t bring myself to do that if I was Licht. I like Butler, Cockrell and Ward but I think grabbing all three is overkill, no?

Ross Cocktrell will come cheap, and so will Denzel Ward.
Denzel Ward will be a shutdown CB for the next 10 years. Malcolm Butler will blanket any WR in the NFL. Ross Cocktrell can play the nickel or outside. You can get all three of them for $22 million a year.
You can still draft a OG, RB,DE,DT in rounds 2-5
You can sign Safety, OG,RB ,DT in free agency
Denzel Ward will be hard to pass up

I think trading back wit Buffalo will be vital to turning things around. I keep hearing take Chubbs or the safety from Alabama but economically and organization wise I would get out the pick #7 pick. Salary and 5th year options are cheaper on picks in the 20’s compared to top 10. It’s a numbers game right now I’m sure every scenario has been thought out to get the time better. Gotta be patient tho…#Go Bucs

We don’t know who will be Cleveland QB yet. But if the Bucs don’t improve their secondary. He will light them up also, like the 4th of July.

So, you’ve completely given up on Hargreaves and view him as nothing more than a #4 CB? I guess I view him as a quality slot corner and just don’t see the need for Cockrell … as for Ward … I like him but I also love Minkah and like Joshua Jackson

The Bucs gave up over 4,000 passing yards in 2016 and 2017 with VH3. Jameis Winston pass for 4000 yards and the defense give up 4000 yards. They don’t have to fill the needs in the secondary.The secondary got Lovie fired and it will get Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter fired also……..if they don’t address the problem.

Sorry but Malcolm Butler isnt blanketing his kid at night much less an NFL WR. Still riding the hype of 1 INT. I’d pass on him, the only pass defense worse than them were the Bucs.
I do like Ward, Minkah at CB, Hughes, Jackson in the draft, havent really dug that deep into CBs. FA I like Fuller, Johnson, Melvin.
I am not against Talib coming back. He is one of the smartest (football IQ) corners in the game, and he wants redemption for letting the organization down? Yea sure I’ll bite. If nothing else he can teach Winston how corners like himself are baiting him and taking his cookies.

We could use his experience – not to mention his height.
Would be better to see if Talib really wants to come back to Tampa Bay as a free agent assuming Denver releases him – and would likely be for less than the $11M as his market value is not quite that high at 32 and coming off a down year.
But – any other team that wants to pay him $11M could offer Denver a late rd pick and ensure he never makes it to market.
Maybe you are right Joe. How about offering a 7th rounder though… On the up side, Talib’s salary goes down to $8M in 2019 and would not be guaranteed.
Would make negotiating with Grimes a bit tougher though if we had just traded in order to pay Talib $11M. Miko would be like – Where’s our $11M offer???

I say Licht waits until FA to get talib.that way we don’t trade away draft picks and we can restructure his contract.i say sign him for $9mil @ 4yrs and give Grimes $10.5mil @ 4yrs as well.

If they start trading picks and spending money on DBs theyd better already have a plan in place to get 4 D linemen too. Most every corner in the league looks similar when qb has all day to throw. I love talibs game, but he wont make a difference here with this pass rush. Unless smitty will actually get creative with his blitzes and play alot less cover 2 zone.

I would not mind Bennett as a bridge player. I think it would go well.
On the topic of Aqib Talib…I’m sorry. I realize some people have hindsight that tells them we should never have let him go, but it was the right move at the time…for the Bucs and for Aqib Talib.
He has not been very productive the last couple years. Yes, he has bravado, but most of it is false. Now, mind you, I am not saying he wouldn’t be better than another option already on the team, just that his best days are behind him and this seems more like an emotional option than a smart option.
Unless he comes dirt cheap…and no way he does that for Tampa.

At 32 and that contract, I think an exchange of 7th round draft picks would do the trick. He’s not getting $11 mil on the open market. His contract is preventing teams from trading for him… he isn’t worth a 5th, a CB making $11 mil a season after a down year isn’t even worth his contract.

If you call Talib’s 2017 season of 31 tackles, 1 FF, 1 INT and 7 PD a down year, well, maybe it was not quite as spectacular as his 2016 season, but Talib backed up the best season of his career with the second-best in 2017. Last year he allowed just 250 yards all season and only 54.3 percent of passes thrown his way to be caught. He wasn’t beaten for a pass longer than 32 yards all year. Talib ranked third in yards allowed per coverage snap (0.57) as well. To add to how good Talib is, since 2016 his passer rating when targeted is fourth best in the NFL at 63.1. Only AJ Bouye, Casey Hayward and Xavier Rhodes were ahead of him. Talib is great, Talib is elite, Talib is a shut-down CB. He is well worth a draft pick and 11 million a year and get this..here is the thing that just blows you away..he wants to play in Tampa.
