Kwon Will Cut Back Mike Smith Meeting Ritual

It’s Year 3 of Mike Smith commanding the Buccaneers defense.
One hallmark of his reign (of terror?) was regular early-morning study sessions — extra time — with middle linebacker and defensive playcaller Kwon Alexander.
There’s just not a need for those any longer, Kwon told Joe after a Pro Bowl practice this week.
Kwon says he’s matured and soaked up enough where daily extra work with Smith 1-on-1 isn’t necessary.
“You know, I’m kinda getting older now, so some of the stuff I didn’t know, I know now. I can help the other younger guys,” Kwon said. “Whenever I need help, I’ll go up and see [Coach Smith] and I can relate it to the other guys. Me and Mike are good. I’ll always go up and see him during the week, but it won’t be the same kind of meetings.”
Joe thinks this is a good thing. Perhaps Smith will have more time to invest now to figure out why his endless blitzes didn’t get home — sackless season for Kwon and Lavonte David — and why his linebackers had steep drops in tackles for loss last season, among other defensive issues.

I think it is pretty cool that Kwon is now the teacher, imparting what he learned from Smitty to the new LB’s. That is how the locker room should be.
Now if we can just get the team to play angry.

That is already done!!!!! Its called healthy, talented players on the roster!!!!! Now NFL GM Jason Licht has to go get them!!!! and that will be one step closer from finishing the full rebuild since the talk show dominik days!!!!!!!! Which now has only 2 draft pics and 1 undrafted free-agent from Four seasons ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, and I told the sheep why over a year ago!!!!!!!!! Losing NS57 as the only second player that other teams double!!!! so that the LB’s come thru the a gap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Throw in that when KA58 was hurt and not in games, they did not blitz much at all because of the rookie in the MLB!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been quite surprised that on many plays the last 2 games that both teams have been lining up help on NS57!!! Whether a chip block by the TE or having the RB help the O-tackle!!!! Once again with someone with speed garnering so much attention!!!!! That really frees up the other lineman and LB’s!!!!
Now stay healthy D-line so this team can compete this gauntlet of a schedule!!!

What he11 are you talking about? Do you think ray lewis had one on ones every day of every year of his career? Did you ever hear of derrick brooks meeting with monte? No you didnt and that did not mean they were not leaders. It meant they understood their responsibility in the system. Not sure why Kwon & Smitty did those 1-on-1’s in the first place. Personally think the Bucs’ defense would’ve been more robust if Kwon had been moved outside when Beckwith demonstrated that he could handle the middle (which he did in the Giants & Patriots’ games … 23 total tackles). Also prefer Lavonte calling the defense & making adjustments.

2014 bucs defense 25.6 pts a game ( 14th hardest schedule
2015 bucs defense 26.1 pts a game ( 29th easiest schedule)
2016 bucs defense 23.1 pts a game ( fifth hardest schedule)
2017 bucs defense 23.9 pts a game ( second hardest schedule)
even with all the injuries the defense has come along!!!! Think if they add some talent!!!!!! Shameful in 2014 and 2015 as most were blowouts with teams shutting down in the third quarter or it would have been worse!!!!!!!

Blitzes have same problem getting home as the front four there is always someone open. Kiss Grimes was pay takib and put vh3 in the slot have them all press on every play and watch the current roster produce sacks.
It’s not rocket science but apparently it is to Mike Smith. Such a simple fix continually being ignored makes me think it’s frieking fixed

Kwon is another player who has a lot of work to do. I recall him being beat or out of position several times in several games this year. Pro Bowl is garbage achievement that he thinks means he doesnt have to work as hard anymore (extra film study). I hope Smith rides him in camp. He is either not mature (most likely) or GMC rubbing off? Players play with injuries every week; for whatever reason Kwon gets a pass from some fans. GMC oddly gets no breaks in the injury area from the same fans.
Mike Smith should have been fired. Glazers = no accountability. Bajankian should have been fired. Glazers = no accountability. I also think changes in player eval team should have been made. I looked at the roster and lets just say why is there so many college grads with no football experience telling Licht who is good/bad. There are no ex Buc players (Brooks) that need a job that may know a thing or two about what a championship football team looks like? Look at what Lynch is doing in SF. He knows what “it” (playoff team) looks like too.

With one of the worst rated Defenses in the NFl, the Bucs have nowhere to go but up..hopefully. I just wish Kwon had a great Defensive Coach to teach him more things. Smith ain’t teachin Jack. And this is Kwons way of leeting us know so. I still cannot beleive the Glazers are allowing this idiot back as DC. But then again..its a BUC LIFE!!

This is one of the more troublesome things I’ve read all offseason,
Successful people seek advice and answers – they don’t shun them.
Yesterday Kwon publicly rebuked listening to anything from a HOF player who anchored one of the best defenses in league history.
Today he publicly shuns having meetings with his defensive coordinator.
Sounds like Kwon thinks he knows everything – the number one pitfall that prevents people from success.
And…
He feels the need to make this all public?
Red flags all over the place.

Get a real defensive line and we won’t have to worry about all those blitzes. Copy what the Jags did with their D and we will be fine. We are a few players away from having an elite level defense.
If we don’t go with Nelson at 7 Payne would probAbly be the next best option. Build the lines and work out from there.

I like the idea of trading back if Chubb is gone. NflNut said earlier about getting Buffalos 21 and 22 plus a 3rd. We could turn this into a couple of picks. That how Tennessee did it. People seem to forget that the reason Tennessee got better fast than us because they were the worst team in the league and traded the #1 pick. Got multiple picks to up grade with. We should consider that. I like some of these middle round lineman (Will Hernandez, Maurice Hurst, ? Jones NC state DT)

The student is know the teacher!!!!!! And will preach and teach the defense to the new guys on the roster!!!!!!!!! This is how it starts for accountability!!!!!! The defense was only derailed last season with injuries!!!!!!! Even though the talent is on the lower spectrum of the league!!!!!!! Give the defense above average talent and watch it take off!!!!!
