Film Junkie Kwon Can’t Let Up
January 26th, 2018Call him the anti-Swaggy. Or maybe just call him the heart and soul of the Tampa Bay defense, or at least a super hardcore NFL junkie.
Just don’t call him unprepared.
Bucs Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander is known in football circles for his obsession with film and improvement. Kwon just cannot get enough and is always looking for new angles to raise his game.
Hangin’ with Kwon at the Pro Bowl this week, Joe asked Kwon about his film study as soon as the season ended.
Did he do a deep dive into his own performance? Maybe a game-by-game review, or a situation-by-situation review?
Of course, Kwon had an answer, and it wasn’t what Joe was expecting.
“Once the games were over for us, I started watching everybody else,” Kwon said. “You know, I started picking up little things and focusing on specific teams. When I went to the Philly playoff game, I started calling stuff out in my head and I knew what was happening. Every time I watch football I learn something, so I just try to keep watching whenever I can and learning.”
It might be a very interesting inaugural Pro Bowl for Kwon, where most guys go through the motions for 75 percent of the game.
Kwon told Joe his goal is to be game MVP and give whatever prize that commands to his mother.

What an awesome Buc! We need so many more like him!

Definitely Harry. Love that guy. With a more aggressive coordinator that guy could be something special. N this makes me think back to dirks comments about them caring more than the fans. I think kwon might be one of the few, or only, who does care as much as the fans. Keep it up Kwon.

Kwon definitely has the right mindset for a football player and leader.
He still needs some work in the areas of gap responsibility, over reacting to play action and shedding blockers.
Great player though – hell of a 4th round pick.

I hope NO player from any team gets injured in this stupid game….
Pro Bowl status should be a honorary with maybe all the festivities a fun time for the players and there guests….but
No Game !

Kwon and Jameis are definitely the leaders on this team, do they make mistakes, yeah, but they make them because they are aggressive, not passive. When the coach meets that aggression, not hinder it but channel it, Bucs swill win. That is all the “Dirty Birds” did, they got aggressive players with an aggressive coach, Panthers the same and the Saints play to their coach’s mentality – you can see why they are always a threat.

Kwon should be the leader of the defense moving forward. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen while Capt. Softy is still a Buc. Licht said yesterday McCoy isn’t going anywhere, and with that neither will the Buc defense. Licht said he wants to build around McCoy. Great build around a loser who’s at the end of his career who hasn’t won one meaningful game since he’s been here.

@AlteredEgo
Agree about the injuries. At least they have an entire off season to heal a pulled hammy or concussion. I don’t believe we’ll see many concussions because the Pro Bowl is like a glorified two hand touch game in pads.
Same this weekend in Tampa for the NHL All Star game. There will be no body checks and it’s like a great game of pickup hockey back on the pond. Still at least fans get to see guys skate and see how the greats compare speed wise and skill wise.
Baseball is really the only sport that lends itself to a true game of all stars. No contact….especially now that Pete Rose is no longer playing.

Dayum! Hating on that quote is like bashing Mother Theresa..
I just don’t think Kwon had a good year by his standards. He was wrapping guys up, but I didn’t see that instinctiveness we’re accustomed to from him.

How do the Bucs not do enough homework to know that swaggy is well…who he is…with the amount of money it takes to sign most players in FA…I’m hiring Private Detectives to research and give me everything they can get on him.
Seems like in a 10min interview you would be able to tell that swaggy doesnt really love football.

He really sounds like he is becoming the Jameis of the defense by studying film, practicing, and going over schemes to try to become the best leader and player he can be.

@mike10
Well he did have a hamstring injury pretty much the entire year.
