Koetter Says Job Security Talk Is A Distraction
December 26th, 2017Moments ago at One Buc Palace, Tampa Bay head coach Dirk Koetter was asked about rumors surrounding his job security, specifically about whether he talks to Team Glazer about it and whether it distracts him.
Simply stated, Koetter said he doesn’t talk to owners about that.
On whether the hot-seat rumors are a distraction, Koetter was direct, as well. “Of course. It’s your life. It’s what you do,” Koetter said.
No surprise that it’s a distraction to Koetter. How could it not be? However, his players have said for weeks that they see a very consistent head coach in his approach and demeanor. America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, made a passionate speech about that last week, Joe talked to other players yesterday in Charlotte, and guys echoed the same thing.
Defensive coordinator Mike Smith suggests ignoring the noise, like he did in Atlanta, is mandatory for a head coach. “You simply don’t listen,” Smith told Joe of how he handled things on the hot seat as Falcons head coach.
Uncertain times at One Buc Palace.
Joe views Koetter admitting he’s distracted as Koetter just being his typical candid self. It’s refreshing. Joe sees it as nothing more than an honest answer, not one that means the coach can’t get the job done. Look, Joe’s distracted every hour by a beautiful woman and has no problem performing his life duties. Heck, Jameis was distracted by a seemingly endless stream of off-field concerns through college and managed to dominate.

In less than 2 weeks now it will be Gruden that Joe is talking to at One Buc Place. Gruden, Gruden, Gruden!

You simply Don’t listen says our DC Pressbox Smitty. Well Mr. Smith you will be listening and viewing another team thru your binoculars come September!!
December 26th, 2017 at 5:19 pm
Joe,
You say that you’re distracted by a female every hour.
Is it safe to speculate that you are crying out for help for a chronic masturbatory problem?
Terry Crews is the guy you need to contact…..once your hands are clean of course!

awe….I feel bad for dirk….SIKE!!!!!
the only people being distracted are the only helping dirk pack and move his sh!t!!!!!!!!
mr @realist!!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

It is a distraction, regardless of what the players have said. Each player is now wondering “what happens to me if Dirk gets fired.” The Glazers can let the coach, players and fans continue to stew about it, or make a decision after next week’s game.
As a season ticket holder, attendance at the games has been abysmal. When the Jets, Giants and Patriots were here there were at least as many of their fans in attendance as there were Buc fans. I remember when I first got my season tickets there was a waiting list and it was difficult for visiting teams’ fans to get tickets. For that reason (attendance), I think the Glazers will make a coaching change, so as to produce a spark for next year’s ticket sales.

It certainly sounds like if the team has a vote the players will vote to keep Koetter.
December 26th, 2017 at 5:51 pm
If the team were 11-4 instead of 4-11, there would be no job security distractions.
NFL: Not For Long.
“Just win, Baby.”

I’m distracted every January when the Bucs come calling for my season ticket money for the upcoming year BEFORE the Super Bowl is even played!

Every player who ever speaks up about their head coaches job says the same thing. Nobody will ever say they want a new coach. Whoever the coach is they have his back. Theyll have the new coaches back too. Dirk might be too honest, maybe thats why he doesnt try to game plan and adjust to trick the other team. I like dirk as a man and o coordinator, cant stand him as a hc. He is simply in way over his head. Best of luck in your new endeavors dirk.
December 26th, 2017 at 6:35 pm
I want Gruden..but maybe, just maybe, if we get rid of the growing cancer tumors in that lockerroom, things might be better..just one thing..Smitty has to go…
December 26th, 2017 at 6:42 pm
Instead of calling the stretch hand off to Doug Martin, Koetter needs to call a handoff the play sheet to someone else and let them have a crack at it. Instead of eating Nachos in the press box, Smitty needs to be “repurposed” and begin his new duties as the concession stand.

I love how the media are finally asking tough questions. At least the real media. You can see Koetter’s reactions. Haha. They even asked why Barber wasn’t in the second half.
December 26th, 2017 at 6:54 pm
LOOKAYEAR…The Glazers have probably been meeting daily on what they will do come seasons end. And they are business people. They know they gotta create somethin..anything..some kind of excitement to bring fans back into the stadium.
I’ve seen HS football better attended and so have you. At the minimum, Smitty is gone. I truly don’t know if Dirk will remain. To be honest, I don’t like him but he is deserving of one more season IF….he agrees to fire Pressbox Smitty. If he does not, then he packs bags also.
December 26th, 2017 at 6:55 pm
If he is solely committed to and/or passionate about being a Bucs coach then yeah u must distracted and stressed.
I have to give it to Koetter for admitting that
December 26th, 2017 at 6:58 pm
Awe, how sweet! All that refreshment makes Joe have such a soft spot in his heart for Koetter.
Too bad Derp Koetter is a just a pure, plain, and simple losing head coach.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:21 pm
So why is this coming out know! I say B.S
December 26th, 2017 at 7:25 pm
1). GM – rolls the dice and thinks two injured players at defensive end will contribute. So no pressure on Qb all year.
2). Your quarterback is dr heckle and mr Hyde (regardless of a bum shoulder for a few games )
3). Your offensive line is injury after injury and down right offensive at times.
4). Your running game is not running very far.
5). Kicker losses games early on.
6). Your defense that you give power to defensive coordinator to call the shots can’t stop a damn cold.
Blame everything on koetter if you want. Sad to see people post on here that they are glad to see him pack his bags and get the F out of town. They Feel he is no different then Raheem or schiano. It’s a damn shame. His offense has been in the top 15 for a long time.
He gets some blame for sure but to act like he is a loser is pretty pathetic but understandable considering some of the people that post on this website.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:26 pm
The silver fox Smitty giving great fatherly advice…that fella was washed up when Koetter did him a solid. That 5 game winning streak last season becomes more fluky by the day…lots of luck just as the last 3 games have been somewhat unlucky.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:35 pm
Looks like the locker room argument after game was cause of Chris baker blowing the game and not being remorseful about it
Apparently he was all smiles after loss and that rubbed a few players the wrong way. Like Jameis and kwon.
Now that is a cancer. Not GMC
December 26th, 2017 at 7:36 pm
Sapp was the QB Killa. Dunedin’s QB is the Coach Killa.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:36 pm
“Joe sees it as nothing more than an honest answer, not one that means the coach can’t get the job done.” Joe…he didn’t get the job done this year.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:45 pm
@ Bird
“but to act like he is a loser is pretty pathetic”
It’s more pathetic to call him a winner when his record says he’s a loser.
Try again.
December 26th, 2017 at 7:47 pm
Bird your six points are all valid. But at the end of the day Dirk was hired to get production from the offense. The offense hasn’t yielded any results and been a failure.
He just has not gotten the job done. I’d be on board with giving him another year if his offense had performed better but they just haven’t.
They have given him plenty to work with including the RB he openly campaigned for.
I think if Dirk was behind the scenes saying he didn’t want Doug back and that he wanted a DE instead of DJax then Last chat will be taking the axe…… But Something tells me he was a big factor in who was brought in to get this offense going and will be a big part of the reason he gets fired, if that’s how it plays out
December 26th, 2017 at 7:56 pm
This is been the first time he’s been a straight shooter in a little while. All of us are critical of his job performance but at the end of the day it must be very tough to hear that criticism constantly. Then again, if I was in his shoes I would just open up my bank account and take a look at my latest deposit.
December 26th, 2017 at 8:01 pm
We seen our guard play go to sh!t this year and it’s hard to make any case that the move of Marpet to C wasn’t the biggest reason for that.
For the second straight year we have seen our d path at RT exposed…….I don’t think it’s going out on a limb to suggest Licht uses input from his HC to determine if the position needs to be adressed.
I don’t mind D.Smith at LT but many fans disagree……Maybe the reason that position hasn’t been adressed is because our HC has openly praised the guy. Just ask Joe I have read dozens of his articles that reported that.
My point is that the HCs input may very well be in play with the way the team has been built……..Yes, Licht certainly have to take most of the blame since he is the ultimate decision maker. But maybe Licht could make the team a lot better if he had a better HC with quality input……Especially when it comes to players on your own team that plat in front of the HC everyday. MARtin, Benechoch for example
December 26th, 2017 at 9:55 pm
@Bird – and yet despite all of that if Koetter could call plays that got us TDs instead of FGs we would have won several more games this year. I think even a 6-10 record with a few close losses and Koetter has nothing to worry about.
December 27th, 2017 at 1:14 am
Hum, I see it as Koetter being insecure and easily distracted by outside noise and crumbling under the pressure.
Again the guy isn’t head coaching material and never should have been head coach – the team would have been in such a better place had he just stayed as OC and worked with Jameis and the offense exclusively while not having to worry about being in over his head as the HC. There’s always a reason guys with a track record of success never get the HC job at the NFL level – and this is why.
Not everyone is a leader, and watching Dirk in the preseason on Hard Knocks telling Winston he’s doing too much, then having Winston ask him what exactly does that mean and watching Dirk fumble for a response and not having an answer… that was painful, and a great indicator of the amount of thought Dirk puts into being a head coach.
December 27th, 2017 at 1:44 am
@Bird keep fighting for the truth. Too many here are letting emotion rule what they write. Koetter is the best coach we’ve had since Dungy and Gruden. That doesn’t mean I want to go backwards. Enough turmoil. Let’s get some talent on the lines, and stay on course. This team is still fighting, and that’s the important part.
December 27th, 2017 at 6:59 am
Saying Koetter is best coach since Dungy and Gruden really should be DK is better than Morris, Shiano and Lovie, not an unfact but Morris hasn’t been interviewed for any head coaching jobs and neither has Shiano. Lovie, no one would even hire him as a coordinator, so while it is true DK is a better coach than those 3, he isn’t coaching a modern offense, few explosive plays and one of the lowest touchdown percentage in the league when in red zone. Red zone is where you need your most successful plays and while he calls good plays between the 20’s and for the most part offense is successful when they have room to work, it all collapses in the red zone and a lack of pick plays, crossing routes, draws, roll outs which are absent in the offense come back to bite him in the ass. Then you add in the bad clock management at end of halves and end of games, the delay of game penalties, the false starts, you see that the team takes on the personality of their head coach, when in the red zone, they don’t play with confidence in their plays.

All the loses this year was a “distraction” from having pleasant Sunday afternoons.
December 27th, 2017 at 1:30 pm
Bill…the team is losing in spite of the fact they are fighting. That is the important part.
