Sack Totals Sad, But Not A Record

December 13th, 2017

“I don’t have a magic wand.”

Joe has already had to replace his DirecTV remote from spiking the damn thing on his tile living room floor because the defensive line of the Bucs acts as if opposing quarterbacks are tuberculosis carriers.

It is so gross the Bucs are the worst team in the NFL in sacks.

Joe can only imagine how Team Glazer feels about the lack of return on its investment. You’d have heartburn too if you dropped a combined $19 million into the laps of Robert Ayers, Swaggy Baker and Will Gholston and got a grand total of 2.5 sacks in return.

Imagine if Team Glazer funneled that amount of loot into Bitcoin or Apple or Google? Instead, they are staring at used toilet paper in return.

Someone Twittered Joe earlier this week asking if the Bucs’ pass rush is about to set any records for futility. Currently, the Bucs have 17 sacks with three games to play. Joe did a bit of digging and, no, the Bucs are nowhere close to a record.

Joe checked back 10 seasons and beginning with the 2008 season, five teams have ended the year with less than 20 sacks. That would be Kansas City (10), Cincinnati (17) and Cleveland (17) in 2008, Jacksonville (14) in 2009 and Atlanta (19) in 2015.

No, Mike Smith was not with the Dixie Chicks in 2015.

As long as the Bucs don’t stupidly win another meaningless game this year, they should get the #5 pick behind only the Browns, Giants, Colts and 49”ers and be able to draft Bradley Chubb … I expect the team to draft DE, CB, S, DT, RB in the first 5 rounds …

    *************

  3. BUC MAN Says:

I HOPE JOHN GRUDEN WILL BE PICKING FOR THE BUC’S IN THE 2018 DRAFT…….

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

    Team Glazer got chumped…again.
Man…..these players have zero respect for team Glazer obviously.
They’re basically laughing in their faces.

  5. Howard Cosell Says:

!.) Guaranteed Gruden won’t come here but that won’t stop a media-induced Gruden frenzy.
2.) Even if Gruden came here the team will still suck.

  6. Howard Cosell Says:

You know Malcolm was a self-made man.
The kids are silver-spoon brats with zero talent at building winning teams.

  7. Smokingjoebucfan Says:

David Carr over at nfl.com is stirring the pot. He puts it out there that there in fact is issues between JW & DK. Also says DK is outta here. Well hell do the glazers bring in a defensive or offensive minded coach… we’ll find out if Carr and Rapoport are full of sh!t or not in a few weeks… I’d go defensive and emphasize knocking the hell out of qb’s

Imagine Marcel Dareus next to GMC.

    Imagine Calais next to GMC.

and imagine Dontari Poe rotating with GMC and Dareus.

    Ah. What could have been.

And imagine Cordarelle Patterson returning kickoffs.

@gp … “3 sacks for Joe Dirt monday night!” Biggest question I have right now is ‘Why in heaven’s name is Licht even bothering bringing up a LB from the practice squad when we have HUGE issues on the defensive AND offensive lines?’ Why isn’t Licht scouring EVERY OTHER TEAM’S PRACTICE SQUAD FOR POTENTIAL DEs & DTs? Bring the best over here, put them on our active roster and see what they’ve got … if anything … BEFORE this season ends. Then they’re ours (if they’re any good that is). And for basically free. Instead, our illustrious GM is bringing up guys who were meh in training camp, and in a position group that we’re already strong in. Good job Licht. Keep hiding and letting Dirk & Smitty take all the heat for the low-quality roster YOU put together.

    3-4?

  11. Bird Says:

Actually gruden s terrible drafting was his downfall.

  12. darin Says:

Some of you have bad memories or are young. Gruden wasnt much either. Id take him over dirk in a heartbeat but lets find someone better. At least gruden can plan and adjust. Knows when to call timeouts and challenge and go for 2, basic head coaching responsibilities

This topic makes me want to throw up in my mouth! Watching QBs stand there like statues going through progression 1, 1a, 2,(Jimmy John delivers a sandwich!) 2a, 3, 4, 5…..oh, there’s a wide-open WR!!

  14. Bob in Valrico Says:

Bucs need create another manager posiion to improve our free agent aqusitions
at the very least. Even in the draft where Licht has been pretty good he sometimes falls in love with the intangibles or potential of a player and they don’t pan out. Luv My Bucs said it first, I’m just here to second the motion. Anybody else agree?

  15. BucTrooper Says:

    I think the 76 Bucs had 10….

  16. Baz Says:

LOL this is why I usually try to spike my DirecTV remote onto the couch and the accompanying pillows, not the tile floor

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

@Baz- I buy my remotes in bulk at the start of the season. You don’t get the same level of satisfaction bouncing it off of a pillow!!!

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Speaking of florida, How Bout them JAG-WARS huh?!!!!!!!!!!!!! They got less talent than we do yet they fight and scrape weekly. So good for them. Don’t Hate fellow Bucs fans…WIN!!!!

  19. Greg Says:

Doesn’t matter, Glazer boys are too busy trying to play fantasy football (which they suck at) with a real team. If they want to win, they’d bring in someone that would oversee football operations that the GM and HC answers to, that has a clue about personnel (both talent and needs of the team) when the GM and HC comes to him with an acquisition/draft pick. Glazers have absolutely no idea what they are doing in that regard.

  20. NFLNut Says:

Mike Johnson … the Jaguars have the most talent on the defensive side of the ball in the entire NFL … they are a LOADED team playing in the worst division in the NFL … that defense is a wrecking crew and by far the best in the league … they have a bright future.
