Gamblers Bet On Smith To Giants
December 6th, 2017Yes, Joe noted yesterday, highly respected and well-plugged-in Giants beat guy Tom Crean Bob Glauber has Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith as a strong candidate to fill the new opening in New York for the football Giants.
Smith was previously a finalist for the same head coaching job when John Mara goofed and hired Ben McAdoo instead. Mara ran McAdoo out the door Monday.
Now it seems overseas gamblers have their cash on Smith landing the job on his second try. Per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, BookMaker.eu has Smith beating out Josh McDaniels to lead the Giants next season.
Others the gambling outfit has Smith beating out for the job are Jim Harbaugh, Jim Schwartz, Brian Kelly and Chucky.
However, Smith is chained to a pact with Team Glazer. Since the Bucs defense has been no less than horrid this season, if Mara really wanted Smith, would a phone call from Mara to Joel Glazer be, essentially, a get-out-of-jail card getting Team Glazer off the hook for what currently looks to be an ill-advised contract?

Smitty deserves that job & interviews well. Hell, he shoulda got it the first time. Magoo McAdoo certainly didn’t. I really hope Smitty gets it, so he can take Klueless Koetter with him

please take him! Hopefully he’ll hire D.K. To run that offense.

Let me say this in the TMax way ….His scheme has been exposed….to much trying to put round parts into square pegs…his inability to formulate a scheme to bring pressure on the opposing QB is his downfall!!! Bye/Bye MEDICORE MIKE!!!! TAKE A KNEE …KEEP AMERICA FREE!!! I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DRAIN THE SWAMP….THAT WAS A LIE!!!!!

These are great news! O boy, I hope the gamblers are right!

Et tu BigHog? “His scheme has been exposed?” What in blazes does that mean? Glazers & Licht give Smitty the leftovers to build a defense with instead of investing in quality Dlinemen and secondary, then y’all complain with comments like “too much trying to put round parts into square pegs.” Round parts? Are you talking about Fatty Baker not being able to hold his gap? Yup, that’s Mike Smith’s fault; should’ve schemed better. As in what? Have him fall down hoping that at least one of the OLinemen will trip over him? Or even better, maybe Smitty could put both Baker and Siliga in there and have them both fall down. Now there’s a scheme.
Reality is that this Bucs’ T-E-A-M has no ‘vision’ right now. It’s not offensively-focused (like the Saints & Falcons) nor is it defensively-focused (like the Panthers). It’s caught in a no-man’s land that leads to mediocrity at best. And that ‘lack of vision’ has resulted in not only a questionable DLine, but also a questionable OLine (as in an ex-basketball player at RT, an ex-DLineman at RG, a Pro Bowl quality RG playing Center, a 5th-round backup playing LG and a potentially decent Guard playing LT).
Yup, the solution is ‘Let’s fire Smitty’. Unless some other NFL team takes him off our hands of course and makes him their Head Coach. Results are the same for our perennial cellar-dwellers known as the Bucs … more coaching turmoil and more years in the basement.

Just about any coach will look bad with our line, we have 1 really good player who gets doubled all the time and still is the light in the darkness. Well for YEARS as a bucs fan this year no different I’ll keep saying “There’s always next year”
December 6th, 2017 at 6:55 am
He might have the pieces he needs with a pass rush and DB’s in NY, not sure who their LBs are, but hey, we will not cry and we can get a DC who can get our guys to be coached up and ball out

Does anyone else feel like Smitty threw this season to get a shot at another job? Jus’ sayin’
December 6th, 2017 at 8:50 am
The scenario is not realistic for many reasons. Yes, Smith is in a contract and yes, Smith’s D has been horrid this year. But Smith is not going to go unless Koetter is fired, which may not be decided until Koetter’s outbrief…unless the team finishes on a six-game losing streak. While business is business, if Koetter gets a one year reprieve, he’d likely ask for a year for Smitty. This isn’t like Koetter and Smith had TWO bad seasons here. Next, Smith got fired in Atlanta and would end on a bad note here, and you don’t go to a pile where all the indicators are pointing down to find a HC. There are plenty of coordinators in the league and perhaps even former coaches who would be more attractive to the NYG owner.
What is the wild card in all this? Are the Glazers so sick of Jameis they fire GM, HC, and all the staff and put Jameis in the back seat (pun intended) of the QBs? While we likely won’t know the outcome of the “Fast Hands Winston” debacle until Spring or even then, the Glazers already know how they feel about Jameis being up front with them, and if they want more Jameis drama or not. When no major sponsors want anything to do with them, and he’s already affecting next season, that also hits their image and bottom line.

Who in the world would want Mike Smith to lead their team when he can’t even lead a half team? I would love it if the Maras got the Glazers to release Smith from his contract and hired him away, but that ain’t happening.

#92 Golston #58 Alexander #51 Beckwith on 3rd and I think 8 to 10 Hudley runs a zone read #51 hits the B gap over the back side of the play . 58 hits the C on the front side and what 92 should of done and what he did were 2 different things . What he should of done was maintain front side leverage and allow 58 and 51 to make the play as it was called . However he bit down looking for the splash play and allowed Hudley to run for the 1st.
Did anyone see the final play of the green bay game ? Well if you did you will notice #21Evans didn’t contain the outside leverage and ran into the b or c gap to make a splash play . Result was a game winning TD.
Point is splash plays lose games never win them that’s why coaches don’t call for them only undisciplined players do . Everyone see stats and place the blame on the obvious choice . Both those plays were great coaching calls on defense just bad execution on the players behalf . #notasmittyfan

That would be a strange tactic to get a better job: purposely fail very publicly at a lesser job.
December 6th, 2017 at 9:36 am
One has to wonder what Smitty’s defense would have been like, had Licht provided better players.
No NFL defense works w/o a pass rush, and we have none.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:29 am
Steve Spagnuolo will probably end up with the job. He was part of the Sb team and the team and fans respect him.

I’d bet my (trailer) house on “the field”…certainly not on Smitty ( happens ).
December 6th, 2017 at 10:52 am
TAKE HIM NOW! BEFORE HIS DEFENSE KILLS THE BUCS AGAIN!
December 6th, 2017 at 12:00 pm
Please make it happen. Take Koetter with You. But it won’t. The NY Giants are not that..DUMB!!

Bha hah a ha ha hah ah ah a a h ahahahahahahahahahah
bye.
December 6th, 2017 at 1:29 pm
why don’t the Bucs go after a younger defensive coordinator that may 4have some new ideas like the defensive coordinator from Wisconsin
December 6th, 2017 at 2:45 pm
All I know is this D could’ve possibly been much better this year if we were playing our CBs five yards back instead of twelve. I think I do remember them playing a lot of press in one game (Sorry, forgot which game) this year in which the defense played well and if I remember correctly we won. That was only one game that I saw a lot of press and possibly other than the Bears game our defense play well. So all I know is if anyone wants that d-scheme, they can have Smitty and I won’t be begging for him to stay.
December 6th, 2017 at 4:34 pm
Matt Patricia turned around a Pats defensive with no pass-rush and by bringing in a Lions cast-off no one had ever heard of and the Pats are now one of the better D’s in the league … Tampa has enough studs to be a very good D … I blame the coordinator!
