One Bright Spot For Defense
December 3rd, 2017Twice in their final three drives the Packers with never-been quarterback Brett Hundley drove down the field and scored — one game-tying field goal and a game-winning overtime touchdown.
When the Bucs needed the defense the most, which for the most part did not play that horribly, Mike Smith’s outfit wet its pants.
Even 53-year old former All-Star first baseman Will Clarke got into the act and had two sacks today, which by Bucs standards, someone should be fitting Clarke with a gold jacket.
So Joe decided to ask Clarke what happened on those two fateful drives. Did the Packers switch things up they didn’t expect? Were the Bucs too gassed (given what looked to be less than full out hustle by two players in overtime, Joe would stake his claim to being gassed)?
Clarke wouldn’t bite on either premise. He said, give the Packers props.
“[The Packers] are a good team,” Clarke said when Joe asked about the defensive collapse late. “Their record doesn’t explain the talent they have. They got the better end.”
Particularly galling was that Hundley set a career-record for rushing yards. He finished with 66 yards on 7 rushes.
“We knew that he was a mobile guy,” Clarke said. “In college he was a mobile guy.”
Maybe someone up in the coach’s booth didn’t know?

there is no bright spot nor hope for a defense who can’t hold a lead against brent hundley. there simply is no hope for buc fan ever. the only realistic goal buc fan has is to hopefully not be as bad as cleveland. way to set the bar so high glazer clowns.

D can’t hit anymore…rules interpreted on the fly….game tilted to offense and we can’t score or stop the other team….

@Joe … “Maybe someone up in the coach’s booth didn’t know?” Really Joe? Is that what you REALLY believe, or are you just throwing out chum for those who hate Mike Smith?

Clarke got destroyed, he kept biting on the RB which allowed hundley the edge every time he ran.. even on the final score he didn’t play his gap he went inside and didnt seal edge.

I thought Baker should have been credited for .5 sack on one of those 2 sacks.

Yup. Also Gholdson. They blew their containment over and over late in the game. High school DEs get benched if they can’t demonstrate enough discipline to hold that corner.
It doesn’t even make any sense after they played so well for the first 3 quarters. Why all of a sudden everyone starts doing their own thing late in the game. No discipline. This is usually due to coaching, IMO.
