Internal ranking data emerges
Yes, Buccaneers officials study and use all kinds of analytics and believe in them.
One such nugget emerged from formerly winning head coach Dirk Koetter yesterday.
Koetter was asked on the Buccaneers Radio Network about why the Bucs are much better at pass blocking than run blocking.
He didn’t disagree and shared an internal ranking.
“I think we’re one of the top 7 or 8 o-lines in the league as far as pass protection goes but not so much in the run game,” Koetter said.
The number itself intrigued Joe. Outside of Carolina, the Bucs don’t have a beast of a pass rushing team remaining on their schedule. Tomorrow’s opponent, the Packers, has a below-average rush.
So let’s say the Bucs finish with a top-5 pass blocking line, which has been aided by good running back blocking. That’s a tough thing to blow up (which too many fans want to see happen) on a team full of passing weapons in a passing league.
Something to think about.
As far as run blocking, Koetter made no excuses or direct comments, but said he believes changing defenses in the current era have benefited run defenses. And he added he thinks it’s easier for defensive players “to grab and shed their guys.
Koetter was not concerned by what the loss of Ali Marpet and Demar Dotson will mean to the pass protection. Neither is Joe.
“That’s the reason that we kept veterans like Evan Smith and Joe Hawley on our team,” Koetter said. Kevin Pamphile is expected to start at right tackle for Dotson, with Smith at left guard and beefed up and healthy Hawley at center.

Our lines need to be better GMC needs help look at his numbers he is a one man show! Our Oline surfers also because of predictable play calling

Based on that IMO the run blocking scheme doesn’t fit our Oline strength time to re-do the run game. A new RB is also required

if gmc was a such a beast he would not have spent his entire career in the basement making excuses. mccoy is part of the problem not the solution. his jovel mentally weak approach to sundays and coming out flat about half the time offsets his meaningless garbage time numbers against bad teams… break down his stats against teams with winning records and see what you get… mccoy is an overrated joke who gets a free pass based smiles and ice cream. it’s irrelevant there is no hope with glazers running the show bucs will never win another playoff game. reality sucks

Again, I don’t care what STAT is thrown our way. The eyes don’t lie. Both of our QB’s are just elusive enough to make those stats look better. One or two more whiff blocks and we will be looking for not only a new head coach, DC, and GM, but we will looking for a new QB again when Winston doesn’t get up.

Our offensive line came out flat Sunday and couldnt match the high level the Falcons Defense was playing at, they got forced into momentum killing pentalties and were a big reason we got down in that game. Nothing new really.
Neither line plays with any intensity consistently. I really think this coaching staff neglects the physical aspect of the game and it shows on gameday.
Dirk why don’t you take the ball and cram it down somebody’s throat when you get a chance(see NE game)….It will built some confidence on that line and will go a lot further then your precious rankings.
In short, give me a physically imposing line any day over a highly ranked one that has to take constant flags to do their jobs. You want a badass football team? So do I.

Tmax you’re a moron. The story is about the O- line. But you wouldn’t kniw because you know nothing of football, leadership or teamwork. Sad. Go Bucs!
