Pass Rusher In Making?
November 14th, 2017One of Joe’s favorite Bucs is rookie linebacker Kendell Beckwith. One reason? He is a stud, or as Mr. Beasting Robert Ayers once said of him, “That’s a mother%@#$ing dog.”
Beckwith, not unlike his former college teammate Kwon Alexander, treasures each day that he is in the NFL living a dream. Beckwith, however, is more like, “Aw, shucks.” Nine games into his career, he still comes across as a guy thinking he hasn’t yet woken from a dream.
For weeks, Joe has been banged his keyboard in rage begging the Bucs, desperate for a pass rush, to have outside linebacker Lavonte David rush the passer more. Hey, it worked for Greg Schiano, Joe reasoned.
Well, it seems Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith was channeling Joe Sunday in a way. But instead of using David as a heat-seeking missile, Smith called for Beckwith to get after the quarterback. And Beckwith did, getting a sack against the Jets as well as a quarterback hit.
As for rushing the passer, Beckwith is way cool with that assignment.
“I love it,” Beckwith said after the game. “I am just in awe. I love it. I am able to stand up. I am able to rush. All the things that I wish that I could’ve been doing my whole career playing football – just rushing the passer, standing up, playing the run, playing the pass – I love it. I love every minute of it.”
Man, reading that quote makes Joe want to put down his beer and go run down and tackle the neighbor’s bushy husky.
And Joe is very happy to see Smith dial up something very unique, and more importantly that it worked.

Now do it next week

November 14th, 2017 at 7:14 am
Beckwith has been the shining light of the draft so far, even if it’s a dim flicker…..
November 14th, 2017 at 7:39 am
I once tackled a neighbor’s husky bush. I’m not proud of it. Go BUCS!!
November 14th, 2017 at 8:31 am
I’d prefer Beckwith to rush the passer, keep LD in zone coverage. Now if he could just hold on to picks….
Beckwith in pass coverage has been meh at best but he’s a rook. I really like our Linebacker core. Now Bond on the other hand…
November 14th, 2017 at 8:33 am
Yeah I’ve only been saying that Beckwith would be used like a 3-4 OLB since, oh idk, The Draft.
It only took 8 weeks for Mike Smith to do it too…
November 14th, 2017 at 8:35 am
luv thy husky joseph
November 14th, 2017 at 8:37 am

November 14th, 2017 at 8:39 am
Bond has been non existent
November 14th, 2017 at 8:45 am
YAZ!!! He needs to be rushing the passer more. I said that about 4 weeks ago when we were complaining about pass rush.
Could it be I was onto something…try him at DE Coaches!!
I said try Barron at LB before we traded him….oh well what do i know

Glad folks get Joe’s sense of humor. 🙂
November 14th, 2017 at 9:23 am
I saw him doing this a lot on Sunday and pointed it out to my friends. Leave him standing up. Watch some Terrell Suggs, kid! He did a nice job but only has a speed move around the outside. Get Simeon Rice in to show the lad some moves.
November 14th, 2017 at 9:29 am
Keep cancer93 away from beckwith before cancer93 sucks the life and love of the game from him like he has from the majority of players on roster over his tenure as the face of the basement years
November 14th, 2017 at 9:30 am
glad to see some QB pressure….only took half the season for smitty to find a way to get it done…..glad to see beckwith embrace his role and show his versatility….GO BUCS!!!!
November 14th, 2017 at 10:37 am
@Bradinator Mmmmmmm Suggssssssssss we can only dream Beckwith can reach that level!
@Blake_Bucsfan You’re not the only one man, we all wanted this dood on the field more and yes finally Smitty does something about it. Finally.
@Pickgrin LMAO I don’t see how Joe could hurt a husky. Be more like, “hello 911 this is dog, was attacked by drunk madman screaming BECKWITH now passed out in my yard” Ruff!

This kid is good.

Beckwith was a home-run draft pick.
He needs to work on his spin move all week.
Von Miller is one of the highest paid players in the NFL.
Go watch his every move and mimic him.
I hate the 4-3 on third down.
I want a 3-4 on every passing down.
Adapt or die.
And keep the 3-4 for next season with Noah Spence back.

Guess that’s better than trying to tackle the neighbor’s husky bush!

Well after the added comment Joe made – methinks he was instead referring to running down the “girl next door” – who weighs a good two-fitty and doesn’t like to shave downstairs. How Joe knows these details might lead one to ponder the possibilities though.
“Joe – your next door neighbor Mr Shulman on line 2. He sounds pissed…”
