I feel very conflicted about Jason Licht.
I do honestly feel that he is well above average when it comes to evaluating talent coming out of college.
Where he falls short as a GM, is in Evaluating his own roster, as well as evaluating NFL free agents. For example, not retaining a team leader like Shep. Or say, in one of the deepest drafts for RB, Edge Rushers, DT’s, and Corners, when you have needs at all of those positions, you wait until the 5th to get your RB, the 7th to get your DT, and completely neglect the other 2 positions.
Ultimately, I like him as a guy, he’s made some good picks, but I feel we can do better. Especially, as Lakeland has mentioned before, you have a guy like Dave Gettelman out there Jobless.

I’m still totally confident in Licht. The defense has been neglected obviously but I think most people thought it would be good enough this year and we could start drafting D in 2018.
The biggest problems I see are Mike Smith and Ice Cream Man. Sh!tcan Smith and trade Cancer93. Then bring in a top DC and draft all D and 1 RB and 1 OL.
I hate the way the team is playing now.Get rid of the dead weight and quitters and start fresh.
Have faith in Licht, it takes time to build a team and it’s not his fault some of the millionaires decided to quit.

Easy to judge a man (or men in this case) when things are going good, let’s see what they can do with this mess and evaluate at the end of the season. Not a big fan of the Managment carousel, the season is shot now anyway. Both are basically rookies, so now they have been thrown a big time curveball, let’s see what they can do. Like I said the damage is already done!!

Too many bad FA signings, too many lost opportunities in FA, Roberto Aguayo, VHIII regressing, ASJ thriving somewhere else, and most importantly the Buccaneers record under Jason Licht is 19-37 which is a 34% winning percentage. Under “Rock Star” the Bucs were 28-52 which is a 35% winning percentage. In other words, under the Jason Licht era the Bucs are *worse*.
Every GM makes good decisions and bad decisions. Even Mark Dominick had his hits. This fan base seems to want to gloss over Jason Licht’s misses and focus on the hits.

Have you watched ASJ play? His Talent was never in doubt. The few games I watched he jumped offsides a few times, didn’t know the play that led to a needless timeout and lost the game or at likely comeback due to holding penalty. Same ol’ ASJackwagen.

Light’s drafting is average at best. He doesn’t know sh*t about free agents. Also, does not understand that football begins and ends in the trenches. He continues to ignore his O and D lines. And that’s why he has to go. That’s where football games are won.

No way he stinks too many misses 2 count with him. His2016 draft look absolutely god awful. Vh3 – has the talent of a nickel corner.too bad we drafted him 11 overall. Spence- who I like but maybe just a 3rd down specialist at most a 230 lb De? C’mon now. Aguayo-Lmao. Just terrible absolutely god awful. Ryan Smith who may just end up the best pick out of this draft. Lol really I like the way he’s played. I give him no credit 4 jameis and Mike Evans who half the board would of picked.
Which leaves don Smith – is he playing well 2 u. He may be a rt. Marley – is his best draft pick but is he a center. Kwon- who I like but is often injured or suspense his past 2 years regressed this year. Has any picks from 5-7 Even lasted past t.c.? No? C- drafts so far

Whoever thinks Light is a good gm must NOT pay for season tkts.. He has missed on team needs, not picked up needed free agents while bucs have plenty of cash . He may be a nice guy but lets hope Light is gone!!!

There’s 23 talented young football players at various levels of development – all 26 years old or younger – that were drafted or signed as UDFAs by GM Jason Licht.
The Buccaneers have NEVER had this much young talent assembled. EVER!
Evan Smith, McDonald, Conte, Grimes, Ayers, Anger, Sweezy, Hawley, Quizz, Robinson, DJax, Baker, McClain, TJ Ward
There’s 14 FAs at various levels of talent and capability who are or have all contributed to this team- and that (aside from DJax and Grimes) were all signed below market value by GM Jason Licht.
What is an NFL General Manager’s primary job? To draft and sign talented football players without breaking the bank. Yes?
Don’t even TRY to tell me that Jason Licht has not done a good job of bringing in talented football players.
When Licht stepped through the doors of OBP 3 years and 10 months ago – this Buccaneers franchise had very little legit NFL talent on the roster – especially YOUNG talent. (Thanks Dom!)
Now the roster is LOADED with legit NFL talent – especially YOUNG talent.
But what about ASJ? the haters say. What about Kenny Bell? He drafted a mentally weak kicker in the 2nd round for God’s sake. Do you not remember how bad Anthony Collins was?

Yes 2-6 to start the 2017 season – after an off season and pre-season with such great hope and expectation – feels like a big fat kick in the groin if not worse. But to claim (and vote) that GM Licht is not doing a good job and should be replaced is just flat out foolish and short sighted.

Licht is the sole problem why this team is garbage…maybe bill parcells wants to come back and be the GM of this team and get some toughness back here…got to find someone associated with the jags, bills or rams that rebuilt those teams and get them, this team is at the bottom again and are the cleveland browns of the NFC thanks to licht

3x NFC South champion and 1 Superbowl appearance with the Panther’s. With an over-all record of 34-13-1 as GM.

Agree. For those that disagree with Pickgrin I suggest you google…success rate of NFL draft choices.
There are a lot of different pieces of research…from round by round to overall some even add in position to the mix.
The bottom line though is that NFL draft picks fail at a roughly 50% clip depending on your defintion of success and round.
IE…a 5th round pick that never makes the team is not as disturbing to me as a 2nd round pick who last a couple of years and is then gone…still a bust to me.
Looked at in that perspective Pickgin’s post makes perfect sense. Licht has clearly had his strikeouts….but he’s also had plenty of home runs…triples and doubles to make up for the K’s.

I understand your point of view. I get it, I really do. However, he’s been here four years. There comes a point that regardless of all this “talent” wins have to matter and right now the Licht regime has a worse winning percentage than the Dominick regime.
All of these wonderful “talented” assets aren’t amounting to wins. Quite frankly many of the listed players may not be as talented as advertised. I don’t want to hear this nonsense from anyone that the team needs more time together or needs to gel. This year *was* supposed to be the year where all the draft picks, free agent signings, and decisions was supposed to come to fruition. DeSean Jackson, Chris Baker, and T.J. Ward were supposed to be those key free agent pickups that makes an already strong team stronger.
So if the problem isn’t with the coaches and if it isn’t with the GM, then it must be with the players. Remind me, who added these players?
Jason Licht won’t be fired. He’s simply not going to get a contract extension. The next GM will build on what Jason Licht has already done.

Why is Koetter the guy who the locker room ignores? Because Licht recommended this swell idea to ownership kneecapping the head coach who hired him.
Heavy is the fat head that wears the crown.
You wanted power meathead? You managed to make an epic fail in Aguayo, failed to have adequate offensive or defensive lines and actually managed to win less games on average than the “rock star”?!
You need to go, but only after we see some more of the Fitzpatrick to Stocker show that was so effective last week.

1st Rd – 42%
2nd Rd – 45-55% depending on whether high or low 2nd rd
3rd Rd – 55-60%
4th Rd – 65+%
5th Rd – 70+%
6th/7th Rd – 75-85%
UDFAs – 95+%
Jason Licht’s draft history bust rate thus far – (still smallish sample size and hard to rate 1st and 2nd year players accurately but giving the benefit of the doubt to those who seem talented and are still on the team).
1st rd – (Evans, Winston, VH3, Howard) – 25% (at worst – 0% if VH3 improves)
2nd rd – (ASJ, D. Smith, Marpet, Spence, Aguayo, J Evans) – 33%
3rd rd – (Sims, Godwin) 0% (50% if you consider Sims a total bust which I don’t)
4th rd – (Alexander, R. Smith) – 0%
5th rd – (Edwards, Pamphile, Bell, Benenoch, McNichols) 60%
6th rd – (Herron, Clay, Bond Vitale) – 75%
7th Rd – (Iosefa, Stevie T.) – 50%
UDFAs – Hard to know % without counting every UDFA brought in over 4 years but with scores like Brate, Humphries, Glanton, Wester, Elliot, Barber, Bobo and Joe Dirt under his belt – We can safely assume that JL is WELL below the average GM’s “bust rate” in the UDFA department.
Bottom Line – GM Licht is drafting a good bit better than the average NFL GM at every level. Especially within the top 125 picks (rds 1-4) where it counts the most. And he’s doing extremely well so far in finding UDFA gems.
I will say it again – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have NEVER had this much young talent on the roster. Yet so many of you voting above obviously want to get rid of the GM that has accomplished that in less than 4 years?
No one is considering that Licht was starting with such a bare cupboard – devoid of young talent – left by the alleged GM that Joe formerly dubbed “rockstar”?

Again Pickgrin, it’s irrelevant if all of these wonderful moves aren’t translating into wins over the course of four years.
As it stands right now the Jason Licht regime has a worse winning percentage than the Mark Dominick regime. Wins have to matter at some point. Winning is the only metric ownership and the fans care about. If wins don’t matter to you today then when is it going to matter to you?

Buc DEFENSE got no heart. None whatsoever. Teams are gulping us up like..Krispy Creams!!! This could be the final straw for Koetter if the Jets come in here and run thru us like water. Pproblem ain’t Licht..Its the coaching and the lack of a pass rush Again for the zillionth time..DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Thats how we won our 1st one..Despite the offensive guru Gruden. His offense did..just enough to keep our Defense rested and fresh. When is the last time you witnessed our Defense Standing over somebody talkin smack after they knocked the livin daylights out of’em? Answer..its been a long time ago.

Coach K said in TC that this roster was “BY FAR” the most talented he’s seen since coming to Tampa Bay.
So I guess the logical conclusion then is to get rid of the guy who assembled all that (still young) talent because the team as a whole is under-performing so badly to start the 2017 season….
OFF with their HEADS – ALL OF THEM… in other words. right?
Yes this 2017 team is a HUGE disappointment thus far. And yes we Bucs fans are long suffering and desperately in need of some immediate gratification – with none in immediate sight.
But we can’t keep “starting over” every 2-3 years. All this constant transition has done is continue to set this franchise back – regime after regime after regime.
Getting rid of Jason Licht when he has CLEARLY done a better job than many GMS of bringing in talented football players – especially young ones – it just makes no sense to me other than damn near everyone is overreacting to the dismal circumstances this team finds itself in 1/2 way through the 2017 season.
Everybody (save for a few) LOVED Coach K and talked of (the good) coach Smith as the best “signing” of the off-season prior to the beginning of the 2017 season. Now – 8 games later – they both suck worse than Lovie or Leeman Bennett ever could have – despite having long standing and successful NFL coaching resumes that say otherwise….
And the GM who was groomed by some of the best front offices in the NFL and has brought more young talent to this franchise than it has ever seen on one team – he should be fired too because the players he brought in have under-performed through 7 games this year…

You should know pretty well that I do not fall into the category of Licht Hater.
But to me and my perception, A lot Koetter and Smith’s failures this year reflect poorly on Licht, seeing that he A. Hired Koetter for fear of him being hired away. And B. Shelled out big money to retain Mike Smith.
And while I like a lot of Lichts picks, his decisions in Free agency leave a lot to be desired. Along with Desean Jackson, Calais Campbell should have been a priority target no matter how much money he asked for. Instead, Licht decided to bank on a 2nd year guy coming off surgery, an injury prone player also coming off of surgery, a 31 year old Ayers, and Will Gholston to generate a sorely needed edge rush.
Licht is a fine evaluator of talent in my eyes, but his decisions in free agency, and ability to identify roster needs are where he falls short.
One other thing that seems to be a tendency of his, that is coming around to bite him, is that he seems a little too willing to gamble on Older players, and players coming off of significant injury. For example, last year in regards to Vincent Jackson and Louis Murphy, this year with a group of aging DT’s, relying on 34 year old Brent Grimes to be your #1 corner, and choosing to pass on numerous plug & play RB’s with butt loads of talent in favor of betting on Martin. Banking on Dotson having another decent year, and most surprisingly, deciding to roll with a Guard who missed an entire year with Back injury that you never even got to see in practice.
The majority of those bets are coming up tails for Jason Licht. Honestly the only Scenario I can see the G’s retaining Licht, would be if they go out and sign a VP of Operations type of figure-head to steer the ship, while Licht stays on as what would essentially be Head of the Scouts.

Again Pickgrin, you are ignoring the obvious. Just about every team in the NFL is “young”. In fact, there are 20 teams in the NFL this season that are younger than the Bucs. The oldest team in the NFL has an average age of 27 years old. That’s young! Being young is irrelevant. The Browns are the youngest team in the NFL. How’s that working out for them? Being a winner is what is relevant. The team is not going to win 8 games in a row. The team is not going to have a winning record in the second half of the season. The season is over with. Youth and talent is meaningless if there aren’t any wins. This team was built to win this year. This team *is* the end result of the tanking, the rebuilding, and the building off a 9-7 season. There’s nothing about this roster that says, “next year” and I don’t want to hear from any Johnny-Come-Lately’s saying they called a 7-9 or 8-8 season or any of this “I knew the team wasn’t ready” nonsense. That bull crap.
Also, I’m not advocating Dirk Koetter or Mike Smith get fired. I think they should get a third year for the same reasons I believed Lovie Smith should have been given a third year. The team needs continuity and the problem isn’t the scheme. The problem wasn’t the scheme under Lovie Smith either. I don’t believe two years for a coaching staff is long enough. That being said it’s funny how Dan Quinn, Doug Pederson, Sean McVay, Sean McDermott, and Doug Marrone have managed to figure it out so quickly. The players aren’t tuning those guys out.
No one is firing Jason Licht. He doesn’t have a contract extension and he’s likely not going to get one. He’ll be unemployed come January.

Shocked so many people really think this hasn’t been the best GM the Bucs have had in a long time. Great Drafts for the most part, great talent.
Alas y’all are confusing the job of the head coach and his staff with what a GM does.
A GM provides the talent, he does NOT cultivate it.
Licht is about the ONLY thing I am confident in in term of the Bucs.

And often times it takes a new team (that LAST chance) a new setting for a player to really get a grip and then change happens. But it was not going to happen for ASJ in TB.

The most important thing to have in the NFL, other than a franchise QB is a Pass Rush it effects everything, even getting off the field, getting behind in games and putting extra pressure on the offense and secondary! Licht f’ed up the whole season from the start by not addressing this glaring, important need. He wasted needs and drafted luxury picks. No confidence!
