Ira Kaufman’s 10 Takeaways From Bucs-Saints
November 5th, 2017Ira Kaufman is the most beloved, revered and esteemed Buccaneers columnist in town. He has hung his hat at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters since July 2016. Tampa Bay’s only Pro Football Hall of Fame voter, Ira busts out columns here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and his award winning podcasts fire Tuesdays and Thursdays. BY IRA KAUFMAN
A month ago, I declared the Bucs were ready to make a move.
I had no idea that journey would land them squarely in the NFC South basement, where they have dwelled for most of the past six seasons.
This five-game tailspin is testing the patience of even the most faithful of Tampa Bay supporters. Some Stick Carriers are hoisting pitchforks instead, hoping to rid One Buc Place of fakes and frauds.
There are enough of each to go around.
Sunday’s galling setback at the Superdome had a familiar stench—the Bucs couldn’t run effectively or rush Drew Brees effectively. Add a glaring special teams breakdown to the mix and you have a losing gumbo against a division opponent you already trail by four games.
Many jobs will be on the line in the next eight weeks, big jobs and little jobs. Dirk Koetter is embarrassed, Mike Evans is repentant and Jameis Winston is in agony.
Here’s the latest autopsy:
* In this week’s tale of two linebackers, Lavonte David continued to shine while Kwon Alexander continued to struggle. David has forced four fumbles in the past four games, restoring his reputation as a playmaker. Alexander has been taking bad angles since returning to action in Buffalo.
* We finally had a Peyton Barber sighting after Doug Martin averaged less than one yard per carry. Barber ran hard, broke tackles and made defenders miss while generating 34 tough yards. We need more Barber, less Martin. the rest of the way.
* The weekly sack report doesn’t seem to change. On a Sunday they needed to move Brees off his spot, Tampa Bay registered one sack and two QB hits. The Bucs need at least two new starters on the defensive line in 2018, maybe three.
* All of these new weapons for Winston don’t mean diddly because the offensive line keeps getting pushed around. Run blocking was passive, as usual, and pass blocking took a major step backwards as the Saints generated four sacks and nine QB hits. Someone want to block Cameron Jordan?
* All we heard in the offseason was the need for explosive plays. Tampa Bay’s two longest gains of the day came courtesy of Ryan Fitzpatrick, a 15-yard QB scramble and a 15-yard pass to Bernard Reedy. Meanwhile, New Orleans reeled off nine plays that gained at least 16 yards.
* The Bucs weren’t a bad road team last year, but times have changed. They are now 0-4 away from RayJay, allowing an average of 33 points per game. Aaron Rodgers can’t believe he’s not getting his turn at-bat Dec. 3 in Lambeau.
* Mike Evans bottomed out Sunday in several ways. First, he caught all of one pass despite being targeted six times. That lack of production probably factored in when Evans lost his cool along the sidelines. Koetter had an opportunity to take a stand by benching Evans, but that didn’t happen. Koetter says he didn’t see the transgression. One of his assistants should have told him. Either way, Evans needed to take a seat.
* Tampa Bay’s third-down defense was a revelation last fall. Now, it’s the gift that keeps giving. In the past three weeks, opponents have converted 25-of-46 third-down situations. You can’t win like that. You can’t keep your job as defensive coordinator like that.
* The excruciating playoff drought will soon reach 10 years and counting … not exactly a golden decade. That span encompasses five head coaches, three general managers and 34 pass rushers who tried to make Buc fans forget about Simeon Rice.
* For the long-term health of the franchise, the Glazers should strongly suggest that Winston be shut down for awhile. Winston doesn’t get a vote because he’d play with a fractured fibula. Let him return when he’s had a chance to heal, physically and mentally, from this trauma of a season.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:02 pm
THEY DONT CARE!!!! (MOST OF THEM) THEIR POCKETS ARE ALREADY FULL!!!!
Is what it is…..they dont give a crap….so then why should we?
November 5th, 2017 at 9:05 pm
Amen
November 5th, 2017 at 9:08 pm
Good work Ira…..Your first note was an important one. Kwon is struggling.
What I’d like to know is why this problem goes unfixed……..Is this going to be another four year project like our placekicker situation or can it be fixed mid game like Martins poor effort?
Wait why am I asking you? Who is responsible for this? Dammit do your job!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:09 pm
Final someone call out the linebackers play, wrong gaps, wrong angles and missed tackles. Running from the holes instead of into the holes.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:11 pm
Yea sure is culture shock for jw. Just bench him. Put on IR.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:12 pm
This is disgusting and the worst part is that it is about to get worse. The next 4 games sould be fun. I have zero desire to be there but I will never sell my tickets for less than face value.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:13 pm
Same old Bucs lmaso
November 5th, 2017 at 9:13 pm
The players don’t even know which direction to go on the field and the front office doesn’t know which direction to go off of it.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:15 pm
So this is looking like another version of Raheem’s team that quit. Hones question, do other franchises have teams that just quit like Bucs seem to do on a regular basis. Dirk has clearly lost the team and it doesn’t look like they are interested in playing anymore this season.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:16 pm
Serious, not hones
November 5th, 2017 at 9:17 pm
There’s a saying that when you go to bed with a baby you end up with poop. This organization with the advise of our horrendous GM decided to build its roster and future around Winston. Well we are now seeing the results. He’s an immature cheerleader with no accuracy and no true leadership skills. He and Evans were shameful and embarrassing today.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:19 pm
Theres a hell of alot Koetter hasnt and doesnt see. Bad head coach. Good coordinator but bad hc. Its a shame too cause now his offense is in the dumps since he isnt coordinator. His game management and just overall head coaching is inexcusable. Its a shame we have to watch this mess the rest of the season. Id prefer he go now but theres no way I want mike smith as the hc rest of way, considering he has to go too. Bad situation. I hope the glazers stop reaching when they hire head coaches. Theyre more important than any of the players, other than the qb. Ours has the whole team soft, unprepared, and timid.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:20 pm
Ira,
And this is what I said
LakeLand Says:
October 11th, 2017 at 12:53 pm
At best 2-3 during the next 5 games.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:21 pm
Wow! Strong but the evidence is damning! Club season ticket holder and I am not seeing a reason to reup for this!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:22 pm
Great….I come down to one game a year from NC……no Jameis & probably no Evans…..riding a 5 game losing streak…..the good new (always a silver lining with TBBF) cheap ticket.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:22 pm
But I was way off also, I predicted 2 wins.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:22 pm
Now Kwon is struggling….great…this entire team is regressing under this staff….the offense has regressed….and the defense has regressed….gotta sit Winston the rest of the year…trade gmc…and hire harbaugh….GO BUCS!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:23 pm
I’m with joe… Doug Martin is trash. I mean so is the team but Doug has got to go ASAP
November 5th, 2017 at 9:26 pm
Really BUC?….GO BUCS!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:28 pm
@realist
@LC
Don’t hide!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:28 pm
This team has failed because it has not been built properly. We keep drafting and acquiring skill players on offense and defense but we have neglected both lines. You can’t run or throw when the o line gets pushed around and the secondary and line backers are exposed when the d line can’t get any push.
When both lines need help we do stupid things like draft a kicker in the second, spend a first on a questionable cornerback, draft a TE when it’s not a dire need, sign a speed receiver when there is no time for him to get deep, etc. Really jason?
November 5th, 2017 at 9:30 pm
I love my Bucs, but they stink
November 5th, 2017 at 9:30 pm
The shere Horror,,of being a Bucs fan. Cheer up..at least we got one winning NFL team in Fl…How bout them JAG-WARS..Huh?!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:36 pm
There are some over-hyped and over-promoted players on this team that are really not very good and we all know who they are
November 5th, 2017 at 9:37 pm
How could DK miss a fight on his own sideline? When the camera panned to Dirk, there he was, frozen in his tracks. Glasses halfway down his nose. Eyes burning a hole through his playcard. DK didn’t WANT to see anything, because he didn’t know what he should do. Reminded me of Schultz on Hogan’s Heroes: “I saw Nothing! Nothing!”
Don’t know if Dirk has lost the team, but there’s a good chance Jameis has.
Suggest the Captain’s “C” be taken from Winston and Evans. Neither are leadership material. Marpet is the de facto leader.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:38 pm
Wow I never though Mike Johnson would jump off the ship.
Look Glazers…..pure evidence of how you lose fans. You guys need some serious damage control. New York teams don’t play here every week to backhandely support you.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:39 pm
We’ve got a glorified OC as the Head Coach.
We’ve got a crying “franchise” QB who got benched due to “injury” with a bum shoulder, picking fights with an opposing player who is actually on the f**king field doing his F**KING job!!!
Dork Koetter stands there with his puny limp f**king stick doing nothing when he should have sent Jameis and Mike to the showers!!!!
Ira, you’re right!!!
Doug sucks! But Peyton got more yards per carry after the Saints defense already disregarded the running game. This has happened all year.
The game was over after the blocked punt/TD and everyone knew it. The fans, the players, the coaches, and the f**king pu**y Glazers!!!
This franchise is ROTTEN!!!!
Laughing stock of the NFL, even with more paper-talent than we’ve seen in a long time.
Bunch of losers!!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:40 pm
The question now becomes, is dirk dumb enough to play Winston and risk the franchise…by looks on winstons face his injury is worse after this game….
If the glazers are smart they’ll can dirk and smitty now and let the other coaches audition for a new gig….GO BUCS!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:44 pm
Ira
Is Drinking the Joe’s Coolaid too. What is it on this website
No comment on the most important player on the team – the quarterback
You know why mike Evans only caught one ball. Cause Jameis missed him multiple times for plays over 20 yards. A deep ball is a tough play for him for whatever reason. What are you guys watching? Pewter report, bucs nation and pewter plank tell it how it is on Jameis. But hey you guys continue to defend him and blame everyone but #3 other than saying he kinda had a bad game. You probably thought Jameis eating W pregame speech was cool and inspiring too. How about you look in the archives here. Perhaps search for the recent headline, “Horrible Jameis.” –Joe
November 5th, 2017 at 9:45 pm
JimmyJack..I never jumped off the ship. But even a fool wants to live!! I’ll not go down with her. I’m from in Fl. We have 3 teams. So if one of them makes it, I’m gonna root for them. I’m still a bucs fan..But for now, they are done. You can stick a fork in’em. Let Jameis have surgery so he can be rested and prepared for Grudens playbook & Offense when he comes in.
Go Bucs..But keep kickin a.. Jag-wars!!
November 5th, 2017 at 9:48 pm
813…..My guess is that Dirk was told to sit Winston down at halftime. He’s already shut down for the season. It’s out of Dirks hands.
Based on the 2nd half performance I don’t even know how he retains his job. These players don’t care, more players will be carted off the field if nobody cares.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:51 pm
813 Bucboi
I absolutely agree with u 100%…bring in Harbaugh. We need an aggressive, take chances, creativity, punch em in the mouth type coach. A coach that can light a fire under player n prompt them to play with determination. Harbaugh would make better use of Evans. I’ll get creative let Evans play some tight end n teach him to stop anticipating a tackle n falling prematurely. Get rid of Reedy n bring in a Tyrek Hill, Taylor Gabrielle type player. Reedy plays too conservative n passive. What’s going on with Humphries? Why not put Chris Godwin in on the offense. Koetter is a clone of Lovie Smith. He looks lost. He n Litch had the opportunity earlier in the season to get Calais Campbell n Dwight Freeman but decides to play with the same losers. Let’s pay playmakers n bring
a winning atmosphere back to Buc land. It doesn’t take Einstein to figure our problem exist with coaching.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:53 pm
JJ..seems like the players have lost their spirit man. I never see Koetter let out an emotion over there on the sidelines. And Smitty sits up in the press box or coaches box. He needs to be on the sidelines rallying his troops. I don’t see us swarming to the ball or hittin hard either. Man hit somebody!!!Dirk may have already lost this team. And Grudens gonna have a tough time getting out of Ray Jay during his induction. My guess is the crowd is going to go crazy chanting, WE WANT GRUDEN….
November 5th, 2017 at 9:56 pm
Go back and watch Hard Knocks….Koetter knew what was coming because they weren’t practicing well. His screw up was going soft during preseason, but going hard could have injured someone and he gets questioned for that.
One issue I see is simply no chemistry….Marpet at center, Sweezy back on the line…entire line looks dysfunctional. Same with safeties and WRs….Nothing is in sync and football is a game of inches and seconds….Being a little off…can be the difference. Throw in that we are not as talented as we like to believe and you sit 2-6
November 5th, 2017 at 9:57 pm
Ok Mike…….was fun having you on board halfway across the Atlantic…….I’m not with you though….I will float across on the last piece of lumber if need be.
I’ll make it don’t worry. We will rebuild and you can jump back on as you please. Sorry, but you won’t be allowed on the deck…….Rules are Rules.
November 5th, 2017 at 9:59 pm
This team is so ready to buy their own hype. They can’t wait to be told how great they are.
And the minute they get told “you’re great! You’re right there. You’re one of the better teams in the league.” They put it in cruise control like they are owed a vacation.
They don’t want to be great. Oh sure, they’d like to win, they’d like to be the Patriots or The Packers, or teams that are always good. They just fundamentally do not understand what it takes to do it. They don’t feel the need to do it.
They need to grow the eff up. Now. Stop being a bunch of girls. Be men for god’s sake and hit someone. Hard.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:00 pm
Oh and Mike I know you didn’t jump…..But we pushed you off.
Next time learn the Rules…..No fringe fans on the deck!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 10:01 pm
Here is takeaway 11 for the Joe’s since they had no problem bashing a former bucs qb but will protect this one at all costs.
Jameis – 10 td. 6 INT and 1,853 yds with 2 wins ( fumbles?)
McCown – 13 td. 7 INT and 1,980yds with 4 wins
November 5th, 2017 at 10:04 pm
Bobby M…….I’ve noticed that the line hasn’t been as physical since Logan Mankins left. He was an unsung hero for us IMO
It’s important to have leadership on the lines…..Not sure if our front office just doesn’t understand this or if they are building around the wrong players……. it’s the same thing on the other side of the ball. No leadership unless you consider the deterioting 93 as that.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:04 pm
Hey Joe, I’m gonna help you out here. Please take notes.
Lets look at the the W Fingers Sucking Jamies Winston by the numbers so far (with every offensive weapon you could imagine).
Completion 61.8%, 10 TD, 6 INt, 7 Fumbles for a QBR of 41.3% for 2017.
You always ask, how does that stack up in the division?
Lets compare him to a QB with for 2017 of 70.4 Comp, 13 TD, 7 INT, 8 fumbles and a QBR of 55.6.
Not awesome but better than All Time QB for the JoeBucsFan fantasy team Jamies…. that QB? 38 Year Old Josn McCown……
He’s not in division, ok fine. Good point. He as released by the bucs years ago….
How about a diff QB in our division. This other QB has 66.7 Comp, 3 TD’s 2 INT, 0 Fumbles and a QBR of 48.5.
Higher Completion %, better TD to INT ratio, and better QBR. So who is this QB in our division? Bress? Newton? Ryan?
Nope, Fitz.
Jamies Winston is the 5th best QB in our division behind Ryan, Newton, Bress and Fitz.
Hard to win games starting the 5th best QB in division of 4……
November 5th, 2017 at 10:08 pm
Bird what’s your point?
Are you saying McCown is better? Derek Carr has worse stats too…..is McCown better then him too?
November 5th, 2017 at 10:08 pm
Harbaugh>Gruden
Dirk<31 other coaches…including hue Jackson
November 5th, 2017 at 10:16 pm
Now Bucs Sam is talking up McCown.
NEWSFLASH: We had McCown here in TB already……..The very mention of McCown means your not getting it.
If your going to compare Winston to McCown then give them the fair assestment which would be when the both wore the same colors. If you going to try to fairly compare the difference between the two it doesn’t get more fair then comparing the number that McCown put up here vs Winston with the same team in the very next season.
You idiots are insisting on comparing apples to oranges when the apple to apple comparison is on this website your typing on, or in Buc.com
November 5th, 2017 at 10:18 pm
Shelton Quarles the new GM
November 5th, 2017 at 10:20 pm
I don’t get the optimism from some of the posts saying the Bucs will win more games this year. I don’t see one team they can beat left on their schedule. We’ve seen this all too many times to count, no enthusiasm, blown assignments, questionable play calling, no answers, have to play better bs, etc. This team looks like they don’t even practice. Let the whole staff and management go and let’s keep running coaches thru here until we get it right. There are plenty of teams out there with 1st year HCs doing a hell of a lot better than us
November 5th, 2017 at 10:20 pm
Jimmy jack.
I’m not talking to you. Plus I can give my opinion there tough guy. Talking to the Joe’s. Of course I don’t think McCown is better than Winston. I am saying this website is joe Jameis fan. Com and the Joe’s rip everyone but their man crush Winston and when he doesn’t play good it’s everyone’s fault but his. McCown was McCown. Yet Jameis is still americas quarterback.
Jameis touches every offensive snap and his play is a big part of their offensive struggles this year. Dude. The jets have 0 talent on offense So they have better coaches? Their GM is better too right. Can you name their coaches. Jameis deserves blame like everyone else
November 5th, 2017 at 10:21 pm
Jimmy jack.
You are the most interesting man in the world. You are amazing dude. Keep speaking the gospel. You are so right and your opinion matters. We are idiots
November 5th, 2017 at 10:22 pm
I’ll give the team until Tuesday to suspend Evans and Winston for at least a game. If they don’t, then i’ll jump on the Fire Koetter band wagon.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:24 pm
JimmyJack
You are clearly mssing the back handed compliment so I’ll pull back the curtain for you.
McCown sucks and was called McClown when he was here.
He’s number are better than the crab stealing, W sucking jamies.
I’m not complimenting McClown, I’m showing how bad Joe’s Love Child Jamies is.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:25 pm
Call harbaugh and tell him he has the job….GM HC the works….whatever he wants give it to him….problem solved….GO BUCS!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 10:26 pm
Bird……you don’t know what your talking about. You can say the Jets have zero talent all you want muchambo because it wasn’t but a few days ago when they blew the Bills completely off the line of scrimmage and crammed the ball down their throats……………But I guess it doesn’t take talent to do that, I guess the only talent that matters is 40 yard dash times(which is done wearing a tank top) verticals jump heights and wingspan, whatever the eff that means…..give me a break dude.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:28 pm
BTW, who the heck is McClown throwing too in J.E.T.S. town? First rounder Evans? Speedster Jackson? Lucky 1st round drop Howard?
McClown is out-passing JW tossing the ball too? I actually don’t know, who are the WR in NY that are making McClown look so good?? All Pro someone no one knows?
What a joke.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:29 pm
@kenny…
That might not be a bad idea as long as he hires the right HC (HARBAUGH)….GO BUCS!!!
November 5th, 2017 at 10:29 pm
Buc Sam….To be honest, I saw McCowns name in your post and I instinctly snapped with a reply.
MB for not reading it
Apologise If I’m on edge…..but I think it’s for good reason considering I look forward to Sunday because of football only to watch a team not fit to play in this league
November 5th, 2017 at 10:30 pm
McClown has ASJ…..The guy our coaches couldn’t work with.
I guess he found himself……well maybe the Jets have some type of magic too, that’s possible
November 5th, 2017 at 10:31 pm
Bucs Sam
Jimmy jack is right. We don’t know what we are talking about. You win JJ. Keep it up man. Great job.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:37 pm
I’ll admit I’m being a d**k. No reason us hardcore fans to turn on each other. We all got our own opinion and I’ll admit I been wrong many time….Shoot I got my Freeman jersey to prove it.
We all get disappointed or mad or whatever with this team when they play like they did today……..We all deal with it differently I guess I have a little bit of Winston and Evans in me and just go around picking fights with others for no real good reason.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:39 pm
Shocking that Mike Johnson is a fair weather fan…
As to this:
The excruciating playoff drought will soon reach 10 years and counting … not exactly a golden decade. That span encompasses five head coaches, three general managers and 34 pass rushers who tried to make Buc fans forget about Simeon Rice.
Why you gotta kick us while we’re down, Ira?
November 5th, 2017 at 10:41 pm
WE WANT GRUDEN WE WANT GRUDEN
November 5th, 2017 at 10:41 pm
Bro if you think Fitz is better than Winston, then you can’t see the forest for the trees.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:42 pm
JJ
ASJ is a TE not a WR, and BTW another cut Buc.
You want to dismiss my McClwon comparison name a WR without googling.
Again, i’m not suggesting Luke or Josh are anything besides journeyman QBs…. i’m just giving the facts on the numbers….. number don’t lie….. Josh is out playing JW….. easily.
MY bigger better pioint is, JW just sit behind Fit to heal and learn some humility. JW is a kid and he doesn’t get it.
He has the arm talent, the mental footbal IQ (accoring to Joe, I have my doubts) but now the maturity to be a NFL QB. At least not yet, we have plenty of example of that, with the pinnacle tonight coming off the bench to start a fight.
Playoffs are out of reach, season is over, and he’s hurt.
Bench him to let him heal and teach him a lesson on humility. Watch Fitz, a pro who puts the team above his ego win games with JW wearing a hat instead of a helmet.
If I was the coach, JW would be the #3 QB for the season.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:44 pm
The ten year playoff drought is a fact. But, personally I will never be proud of a one and done……especially if it’s one and done for another ten years.
To me it’s nothing more then being proud of a meaningless 9-7 season that we had once.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:47 pm
Hire Gruden now
November 5th, 2017 at 10:51 pm
Can the package deal duds of Koetter & Mike Smith….name Jay Hayes interim head coach and Monken OC. Why not?!
November 5th, 2017 at 10:51 pm
Great point Sam……You bring up the maturity things which is something many fans or reporters ever mention. You could be onto something with that.
I also find it very funny that you bring up that factor with ASJ in the same post. ASJ had maturity issues which were undeniable………….Not sure if Jenkins is still having problems with that but it does beg for a scary question(at least for me). Will Winston have to move to a seperate team to find maturity and hit his potential? Not sure if I really want to hear the answer to that Question.
BTW…..I thought hard……no, I can’t name any current Jet WR
November 5th, 2017 at 10:53 pm
9 and 7? hahahahah good luck with that.
We are 2 ad 6, chances or 8 – 8 are laughable. 9 and 7? My drink isn’t stiff enough to laugh at that.
We’d be lucky for 6 – 10 at this point. lets look at our remaining schedule:
Sun, Nov 12 – Jets
Sun, Nov 19 – Dolphins
Sun, Nov 26 – Falcons
Sun, Dec 3 – Packers
Sun, Dec 10 – Lions
Mon, Dec 18 – Falcons
Sun, Dec 24 – Panthers
Sun, Dec 31 – Saints
Lets be generous and say we beat the Dolphins and Jets, and go crazy and say 2 home division games…. so that’s 6 and 10. That’s being kind.
That’s a 2 year record of 15 and 17 for the former Bucs coach Dirk….Former as of next season….
November 5th, 2017 at 10:55 pm
15 years since winning a playoff game
November 5th, 2017 at 10:58 pm
Aside from Winston this team is still a mess…….They can’t play well in any aspect of the game for any longer then a quarter……..There is a serious problem with this team as a whole. I don’t like to scapegoat but coaching has to be accountable for the product they present.
The biggest problem I have is a lack of adjustment……with personnel and with scheming/play calling/game planning.
Doug Martin is a perfect example especially since Joe has been highlighting it for months now. P.Barber is clearly the better runner on this team. It should not be November til our staff realises this.
November 5th, 2017 at 10:58 pm
BTW, when fired at 15 – 17 it’ll put him in front of Schiano and behind Raheem Morris on the list of really bad TB Coaches.
Miss you Gruden….
November 5th, 2017 at 11:02 pm
Was referencing last year when I said 9-7…….This year we have no chance to win another game……….If this current squad has a chance to beat anybody in this league they sure have a funny way of showing it.
November 5th, 2017 at 11:06 pm
I don’t know Sam…….I do recall some bad Buc teams quitting…..But I never recall seeing any team ever quit before the season is halfway over.
I put this era of Bucs in the debate for worst ever, especially because we do have players who have proven to have better skill then they have shown.
November 5th, 2017 at 11:14 pm
Jameis was off on key throws to the sideline to both Evans and Djax. I like Chris Spielman but those two announcers are bottom tier who made a lot of mistakes. Don’t believe that low throw was catchable. These throws were before he reinjured his shoulder. No matter what Jameis says he needs to be sat down and rested. Forgot to mention the throw to Evans where he led him perfectly was what he needs to do.
Jameis’s play has to improve. Even if doesn’t get us behind because of turnovers,
the lack of TD’s in the first half causes us to fall too far behind. Our first drive in the second half is usually stalled . We have to eliminate the untimely delay
of game penalties.
The loss can’t just be pinned on just Jameis but he has to start faster and capitalize on turnovers, when he comes back.
November 5th, 2017 at 11:15 pm
Jim Harbaugh? Screw college football. The Glazers will give you full control. Come save us. If not, Josh McDaniels maybe? I’m the guy that was against firing Koetter after only 2 years, but I can’t take anymore of this team’s weak effort and a vanilla preseason playbook.

Grudens team quit in 2008.
They quit on Morris in 2011
They quit on Schiano in 2013
They quit on Lovie in 2015 (maybe 2014 too?)
Dirk 2017? BTW, They were all equally pathetic and just as bad as this year.

Worst ever? Nah.
Highest potential with the lowest results, oh heck yeah.
In my lifetime, I remember sleeping in the parking lot watching the old Sombrero being demo’ed, I’ve never seen a better offence. Yes, we had some very stout D in the past, but superstar WRs (plural), league leader RB’s (dough), multiple stud TE’s……. give this team to Dungy or Gruden….. and we aren’t 2 – 6.
We’ve scored 13 points in 2 games. I could care less how bad our D is, 13 points with potentially the best Bucs offense ever…. who have been blown out in games so we should at least have garbage points?…….
I’m not making stiff drinks anymore tonight, I have a straw in the bottle.
There is no glory in being a fan of a bad team. We have a bad team. Not this season, or last season or the last 10 years. …..
BTW, ask yourself who is Tom Brady winning with?
I’m writing this as I watch formerly retired cry baby Cutlet on a brand new team be competitive with 16 points against Oakland.
What a disaster we have here in Tampa…..

Well the Lakers are winning tonight.

If I were the Glazers I would cancel the flight arrangements and send a bus to come fetch the team…….They could use the time to stew in their own juices and reflect on their own pity. This team quit out their today and doesn’t deserve to be treated like VIPs anyway.
Makes Me wonder where this team would be at tonight had Dirk decided to give his let somebody else make a few decisions around here and hired an OC

It’s obviously shown that 99.9% of the comments here don’t have a clue what they are saying. Wouldn’t know a 4-3 from a 3-4. IDIOTS in here!!
So sad this website has become the joke as it is.
Keep up the clicks Joe because this is pathetic

Bucfaninca enlighten everyone here with some REAL football knowledge, you know too much, you don’t belong here you belong on the sidelines, GENIUS.

Bad luck & atrocious coaching leads to this.
November 6th, 2017 at 12:25 am
Why no mention of the national lambasting the face of the franchise is taking? Total embarrassment before, during and after the game. That pregame warmup was downright creepy and I’m sure the Glazers are watching. America’s Present Laughingstock, Losing, Captain of Immaturity, Only Seen in Local Markets, Backed into Pro Bowler Because Three Others Backed Out, Benched for Ineptness, Mr. Magoo aka Jameis Winston just made a mockery of his team after leading them to the gutter. It is hard to imagine what we as fans are in for the rest of this season.
November 6th, 2017 at 12:46 am
The national media will not be taking it easy on him because they hyped him all offseason. His play and actions have made the media look like fools for backing him.

I love all the blame on Jameis. You people are idiots. 1st qb EVER to throw for 4k yards first 2 years. He is still a kid and learning. Oh and when your offensive coordinator only runs plays that take the Wr’s 4 seconds to run thier routes, and you have the worst O line on football, YOUR QB IS GONNA LOOK LIKE SH**! The qb will take tons of hits, b
Which usually leads to injuries, and it doesn’t help that you can’t run the football. Why isn’t Hawley snapping the ball and Marpet back at guard where he belongs. Pamphile SUCKS. Smith is a Right Tackle, and Dotson is old, and weak. Sweezy is our best lineman. You win in the trenches. And WE SUCK IN THE TRENCHES.
November 6th, 2017 at 1:15 am
Plus it’s time to bring Gruden back. Jameis would thrive in a West Coast offense. He is arguably the best qb in NFL at threading 15 yard passes, great touch to the backs and he throws a great deep ball on the roll out play action. Bring in a 3-4 coordinator, Defense is built better for it, and you turn things around.

Best comment I’ve seen in a long time on JBF …
@csidedave … “This team has failed because it has not been built properly. We keep drafting and acquiring skill players on offense and defense but we have neglected both lines.”
Dave, you hit the nail on the head IMO. Neither our DLine OR our OLine is getting the job done. You win (or lose) in the trenches. Most of us could see that the DLine was gonna have problems this year because of our DEs, but I for one was hoping that the interior DTs could provide some pressure & force QB movement. Oops, not happening. I’m admittedly somewhat surprised that our OLine has turned out as poorly as it has, but I think its’ 2 problems are (1) wrong players in the wrong slots; and (2) lack of leadership (I still miss Mankins, and I think they do too). It’ll take us several years to fix those problems.
Oh, and BTW …
@JimmyJack … “I’ll admit I’m being a d**k. No reason us hardcore fans to turn on each other. I guess I have a little bit of Winston and Evans in me and just go around picking fights with others for no real good reason.” Not a good look for Jameis or Mike, was it JimmyJack. (hint)

Mock draft time✌️

Jamies is hurt but the coaches and GM put him out there because they know a 50% Jamies is better then the alternative.
A kid I coached is a running back that had the same injury last year. This is an injury the orthopedic surgeon said is best to get surgery early rather than compensating for the problem and worsen the issue.
Regardless, the Bucs have way too much talent to be one of the worst teams in the NFL.
The coaches obviously need to be let go.
November 6th, 2017 at 8:49 am
They need to shut down Winston ASAP. He needs to have surgery now and not later. I’m very disappointed in him. He seemed to regress this year. He needs to be put on a quick throw offense not this offense that takes receivers a while to get open . The OLine isn’t good enough to pass block for 4 seconds and I don’t care what Joe says, it line doesn’t run block!
November 6th, 2017 at 8:54 am
They need to trade GMC now while he still has value because his body is wearing down. Bucs really need multiple 1st rd picks yo fix this D-LINE

The main naysayers in this thread are the same group of people it always is….
Now, get real people. Did ANYONE here really think we would win the game?
Yes, the team is playing badly right now, but that does not mean they have quit. They keep fighting, just not fighting well.
Jameis should not have played this week. If they had sat him, he may have healed up by next week. Now it will take longer.
As to the suspending of Mike Evans? Heck no!
He saw an opposing player shove his quarterback and he came to the QB’s defense. I admire him for that!!!! It shows heart and loyalty!
Sure, fine both him and Jameis, but don’t suspend them.
Jameis needs to rest for a few weeks now. Get healed up. Start Fitz. Activate Ryan Griffin from IR. (he can be activated if he’s healthy now)
Still no Full Back and still no running game…

G-is for goodness, R- is for respectability, U- is for unified, D- is for damage control, E- is for entertaining, N- is for now. put all together you get GRUDEN. imho chucky has been stalking one buc, and chomping at the bit to get back in there, since preseason or mini camp. the head coach we have now is unimaginative, stoic, and shows no emotion, just like ol’e stone face lovie smith, and dirks record really aint to much better. but the team has quit and it damn sure shows, mike smiths defense is abysmal. GMC probably going to retire next year, and really who cares, haergraves sucks, like it or not we are still in a 3-5 year rebuild, the old gotta go jettison the losing culture, reign in jameis and make him understand sometimes leading with quite confidence is better than rah- rah BS with grown men. so let it be written so let it be done
