Martin: You Have To Believe

November 5th, 2017

Curious words.

A lot of readers of this here website think Joe has some agenda against Doug Martin. The word “hate” is often abused by these people.

Joe actually thinks Martin is a cool guy. He’s always been kind to Joe, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Such as today.

(Joe hates non-production. Joe can understand why some don’t understand how Joe can separate his feelings for a person and the person’s ability to play. For example, Joe’s favorite Bucs player for a while may have been Alterraun Verner, but he stunk out loud on the field.)

Joe caught up with Martin today as he was leaving the locker room (leaving as the locker room was opening for the press) and Martin was kind enough to give Joe a brief moment to talk.

Joe wasn’t concerned so much with Martin effectively being benched in the second half. What Joe wanted to know was, how the hell the Bucs, a whisker away from the playoffs last year, are now barrelling towards a top-five pick in the draft. What Martin told Joe raised Joe’s antennae.

“I don’t know,” Martin said when Joe asked him what is wrong with this team. “We haven’t found our identity. Everybody has to want to win. It is a lot of little things that are not getting done. The biggest thing is to get everybody to believe we are going to win and wants to win.”

Pardon Joe if he is off base, but it sure smells like, from Martin’s words, the entire 53-man roster is not on the same page.

Why that is or what caused it, Joe has no idea. It sure seems from what Martin said, there are guys on the roster who are just good with cashing Team Glazer’s checks.

0.70 in fantasy from Martin, yes I believe….

  2. Buc believer Says:

Why would we think that Joe??? Just because you are always quick to crucify Doug but always give your boy GMC a pass?

Pomeroy delivered a sermon at the church, encouraging parishioners to “lean on the Lord,” even when circumstances don’t make sense.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely, or lean, on your own understanding,” he said. “You see God’s understanding is far greater and there may be things that are taking place that you don’t understand but you still need to do what God’s calling you to do.”

  4. EA Says:

A lot of these players are coming out saying we are “trying to find our identity”.
What they mean by that is that our coaching staff has no friggin clue what the hell is going on.

This is all I have. I want this for the team and the fans as much as anybody but for some reason we just have to wait. While I will never understand why that is for us Bucs fans and not others I have to accept the statement above. Go Bucs! I wish I could help you.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

I believe. I beleive Koetter and Smitty will be shown the door at seasons end. Because backstabbing Licht is gonna drop dimes and quarters on Koetter to the Glazers to save his own skin. I also truly beleive..with all of my heart..we still have a shot at next yrs no 3 pick in the draft. I..BELEIVE….

    Bye dirk!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  8. ndog Says:

All of these posters point at Jameis in a second for criticism, but today Know was horrible, GMC was invisible, in fact the only players to actually well today were Peyton Barber and LVD (most of the time). I am tired of some players on this team getting a pass especially McCoy he seems to do no wrong in the eyes of many when in reality he has little to no impact on the game.

Harbaugh and bring in Kap, he wants to win

  11. EA Says:

Don’t forget about the kicker, he split the uprights on that 50 yard FG, too bad this team can’t make it a close game anymore.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

bringing back and counting on martin was a bigger mistake than the pr stunt that was the hiring of incompetent lovie smith and his friends and family charity cases.

  13. JimmyJack Says:

RBs come and go in this league. They have short lifespans. A rare few last long….Martin longer then most.

I had defended Martin but Joe has been right. Martin will probably never get 20 carries in any game in this league again. I still like Martin but he just is not a feature back in this league any more. That part of his career is done. The only moron that will give him 20 carries ever again is the same moron that took this long to finally bench him. Joe was right and it was an orginaxitional disaster to keep him here as our feature back.

I feel dumb that I was wrong about Martin but I’m just a fan. I’m allowed to be wrong. It’s just embarrassing when our GM and HC get paid quiet well to botch decisions that hurt our team. Worse then that is when it takes them this long to realize it.

  14. JimmyJack Says:

ohh and tmax was half right about Martin too…..I’m sure his narrow mind needs to see the validation in writing.

  15. Shane Says:

Trash Martin. Please trade the guy.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    JimmyJack

i am always right sir. no validation needed or wanted. I just want my favorite team to win and stop accepting losing. starts at the top.

  17. Joe Says:

    smh

One gets production, the other doesn’t. One is considered one of the best at his position, one isn’t. One is thought of by his own coaches to be the best player on the defense, the other is not close to be the best player on offense. One player raised his game when team needed him the most down the stretch last year, the other was benched.

Other than that, yeah, you may have a point.

  18. unbelievable Says:

To be honest, neither of them had production today.

This team has quit, and the supposed leader is sucking on his fingers for a pre game speech.

For better or worse, I feel this team is going to get blown up, and once again, we will be rebuilding. #BucsLife

  19. Season Is Over Says:

I think Barber’s 3.1 ypc is justification enough to tell me it isn’t the OL that is the problem. Lmao.

  20. cmurda Says:

Jon Gruden is a pipe dream although it would be awesome. The better chance might be Harbaugh if he is itching to come back to the NFL. He would be a great hire. At least you know you are getting fire and he won’t stand for players simply collecting a paycheck.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    joe,

being considered one of the best and showing up and playing like one of the best are two completely different things. you have previously stated stars need to play their best at the biggest moments yet your superhero has captained more flat performances and blowouts than any captain in bucs history. so this mysterious production you mention is simply meaningless numbers that result in losses. it’s laughable how many games a gmc captained team / defense has came out flat, disinterested and down right putrid yet you treat 93 like he is a winner. career loser with no heat and no desire to be great… freaking bum… garbage time production is meaningless when your entire career is in the basement.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Playcalling and the Oline cause most of our running problem…..

Winning coach Dirk Koetter needs to show some stones and delegate it to Monken….it will show he’s trying to make a change instead of continued failure for our offense.

  23. Bucnjim Says:

Listened to the game did not see it. The Saints knew most plays before they happened on offense. Most of them set up a campfire in the Bucs backfield and blew up any play long before it developed. Really did not matter run pass they were across the line attacking which is funny because that is what we used to do.

  24. DB55 Says:

You know what the saddest part is, gmc had his best game of the month today. Too bad his friend had to break his neck in order for gmc to wake up and come out of hiding.

  25. Lakeland Says:

    I believe!…..that the Yucs stinks

  26. Fire Goodell Says:

Won 3 out of 4 during his suspension, 0-5 since he’s been back.

  27. Joe Says:

I feel dumb that I was wrong about Martin but I’m just a fan.

No, no need to apologize. Fully understand. Joe sure hoped Doug Martin ran for 2,000 yards this year because that likely meant playoffs.

Joe too wanted Doug Martin to be the 2015 Doug Martin, but he’s not. It happens. Hey, Darrelle Revis was a Pro Bowler in 2015 too. So was Tony Romo, Nick Mangold, DeMarcus Ware, D’Qwell Jackson, Darren Sproles, Mario Williams, and Jamaal Charles.

  28. BUC IT Says:

It’s pretty simple. Our team has no depth on defense and Jameis has miserably failed to throw the deep ball. As much as I liked the Howard draft pick. We didn’t need him or Godwin. We should’ve went for positions of need instead of luxury picks. I also believe hard knocks was a really bad distraction for our team. It’s awful but I kind of hope we get a top 5 pick at this point. We definitely need it.
