Jets Embarrass The Bucs

No, the Bucs did not play the Jets on Thursday Night Football. Still, Gang Green shamed the Pewter Pirates on national TV.
Those watching the Bills-Jets game last night saw the Jets, which use a three-man defensive front as a base defense, rack up seven sacks. That’s sacks on a mobile quarterback like Tyrod Taylor, not some stiff like Mike Glennon.
Why is this significant? Well, the pass rush of the Bucs (what edge rush?) has a grand total of seven sacks this season. So, you guessed it. In one game, the Jets — the Jets! — racked up as many sacks as the Bucs have through seven games. That’s just shameful.
Joe decided to do some hunting and pecking and noticed the combined average game salary of the Bucs starting front four (Will Gholston, Gerald McCoy, shy, belly shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time squawking, TV cooking star Swaggy Baker and Robert Ayers) is $2,062,500 per Spotrac.com. That’s just Joe throwing this out there for reference.
To be totally factual, not all seven Bucs sacks have come from the aforementioned defensive linemen. Linebacker Adarius Glanton has a sack as does defensive end Noah Spence, who is on the injured reserve list. Reserve defensive lineman Clinton McDonald is tied with GMC with a team-high two sacks. Add Ayers’ lone sack, and that accounts for the vaunted seven sacks. (Sunday’s Bucs opponent, New Orleans, has 19 sacks.)
The Jets, of all teams, demonstrated just how woeful and behind the Bucs are from decent teams in the NFL when it comes to rushing the passer.

Oh look, Josh McCown completes just 14 passes for 140 yards and 1 TD and yet the Jets manhandle the Bills, run for 194 yards, shut Shady McCoy and Tolbert down (16 carries for 28 yards) and win the game easily.
Obviously Jameis isn’t the problem people! Had the Jets had Jameis’ 300+ yards and 3 TD’s tonight they could have beat the Bills by 40.
The Bucs defense is historically bad, period … that is THE problem.

What this game tells me is how, the Bucs coaching staff is incapable or unwilling to adjust their schemes to win games. How is it a Jets team which was supposed to be bad can get that much pressure on a mobile QB?

The Jets aren’t as bad as you’re making them sound. They’ve had a respectable pass rush for quite some time and teams generally play their division rivals pretty tough. Plus on Thursday night football one team is usually overmatched.
It’s true the Bucs pass rush is awful, but it’s also true that the Bucs were in the same position last season and turned it around.
I think it starts this Sunday. Saints have lost to the two decent opponents they’ve played, and GMC always gets in Brees face.

But paying a starting DLine $2 mil salaries per game doesn’t guarantee anything (especially since none of the 4 are on rookie ‘starting salaries’ to impact that number). Fact is that the Bucs haven’t drafted well on the DLine for many, many years & it’s now caught up with us.
And NFLNUT, your point that ‘The Bucs defense is historically bad, period … that is THE problem’ is probably half right … this defense is certainly not what anyone expects a Bucs defense to be, but it’s not THE problem. IMO, there is no ONE problem (which I assume is what you meant when you capitalized THE). I’m confident that Koetter & others wish that it were that simple … ‘fix’ the defense & we win the Super Bowl. It’ll take more than 3 pts/game IMO to do that.

NFLNut, let it go. This is what this site has become. It’s no better than any group page on FB now. It’s a shame. I really enjoyed the banter, for the most part, last season. There were a few bonehead racist comments, but mostly reasoned ones. But, the red meat gets thrown out by the Joe’s, and the dolts eat it up. It’s such an immature fan base. This used to be my go to site, but it’s way down the pecking order now. If I want to see players get ridiculed, I come here.

Misguided title for your article. They’re are underperforming overpaid groups all across the league and once upon a time there here were one of those teams overpaying at corner. No one was thinking about the bucs last night except the person who wrote this article. If you wanted to write something you could have talked about how will two ex buc played. Why were they hot garbage in Tampa? It’s always something to do with this team hiring inexperienced coaches

Saints games are always a toss up.. But I live in the NY area. We cannot lose to the Jets… Although they are playing better than anyone anticipated you cannot lose to a team like that… period. In my opinion we are a better team in most phases.

Try the 3-4 defense. Who cares what GMC thinks about it. It’s not like he’s producing huge numbers in the 4-3 right now anyway. If the 3-4 would help the TEAM, but hurt GMC’s stats/play, then so be it!

There are many other NFL organizations that do more with less talent than the Bucs, or at the very least they do it against the Bucs. It would be interesting is the Bucs allowed GMC to rush the passer from the defensive end position, or allowed Kwon Alexander or LVD to edge rush. Of course this is all predicated on down and distance, and situational. But the Bcs have enough LB depth to make this happen in various situations. They could also allow the back up at LB to edge rush from the standing position, and on the weak side (opposite the tight end). If they were to rush off the near hip of the offensive tackle of even align past the the near hip, they could apply some pressure. We have to be “creative.”

Gmc accounts for $812,500. The other 1.25mil is devided by 3 $416k each or half. Let’s account for Clinton at $187,500. Conclusion gmc is waaaaaay overpaid and underperforming. He’s making four times as his back-up for virtually the same production or lack there of. And his lack of effort and/or interest is a cancer to this team. True story.

Amen WB. Welcome to JBF or any sports blog…the place for massive hyperbole.
This includes our current venting over the Bucs. We could make an argument that without all our inconsistency we could have a win over NE and certainly over the Bills!!! IF we were 4-3 right now would we have any more talent or be a better team?
In our division the first few years every champion was a team that went from worst to first. How does that happen?
It’s the freaking NFL!!! ALL teams have talent and some potential.
All my life I used a simple formula for success. T X E = S
We all have a limited amount of God given talent T…the only variable we can effect is E. Put those two together and you end up with your success or lack thereof.
Look at the NFL….The T part of the equation is really really close…they are all great players with success at two levels before they even reach the league.
But then comes the E. How much effort…and not just the amount of effort but how smartly is that effort applied? So a whisker’s difference can make a pretty significant change on the scoreboard…hence….”On Any Given Sunday”.
And I don’t wish to leave out the ever present wild card. LUCK
We lost our best defensive player for the first part of the season. We lost our 3rd best defender for a couple of games already…we lost LVD for a couple games….
BTW I am not a Houston fan but my heart goes out to them…DeShaun Jackson has a season ending ACL tear during freaking practice. I hurt for them.

This site’s braintrust likes the term “Lazy Lovie”. Seems beyond truthful to say that, especially when given the circumstances of his tenure. But, OK..we move on to our current lack of success and look at the facts.
His successor has had success. His offense moves beautifully between the 20’s. Not many end zone dances this season. His hand-picked DC has yet to prove his worth given the number of All-Pro players on the team. Injuries make a fool out of every head coach in the league..or do they? Josh McCowen was garbage…or running for his life? ASJ was a certified knucklehead or a high strung personality who wanted/needed to contribute more.
Bottom Line: Winners win and Losers make excuses. If the scheme isn’t working then the draft can’t help. Some teams are coached to block and tackle, FIRST.
Some teams make excuses about WR’s not being able to contribute while the defense can’t sack an old lady in line at Walmart.

Thanks, I’ve read this site for years but sometimes the hyperbole is too hard to ignore fore me.
As for WeWantGruden, you keep calling our quarterback dumb as a bag of hammers. Anonymously, from the comfort of some keyboard, attempting to take his livelihood from him.
It will always be personal. You are a cellar dweller, a loser that is probably sitting in some cubicle waiting for 5 pm so you can go home to your empty house, or to your ugly wife, or your mom’s basement. And judging by your response, you sound a bit like a bigot too.
So when this team starts winning, and Jameis leads this team to the promise land, your lonely world might actually have some joy in it, no thanks to you, but to the greatest Bucs quarterback in history.
Criticism is fine, lord know Jameis has earned some, but as long as I hear you insult my quarterback, you’ll be hearing from me.
