Koetter: O.J. Howard = Marcedes Lewis
October 31st, 2017Once upon a time, formerly winning Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter compared the skills Austin Seferian-Jackwagon to Tony Gonzalez.
That had Bucs fans all excited until they realized ASJ was more interested in partying.
Koetter served up another tight end comparison recently on the Buccaneers Radio Network, when asked about first-round pick O.J. Howard.
Joe was at the edge of his seat hoping Koetter would pick Gonzalez again, as the former Chiefs and Falcons tight end is a certain first-ballot Hall of Famer. But instead, Koetter picked Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis.
“And I say that in a complimentary way,” Koetter added, seemingly aware that the comparison might be seen as something other than great praise. “He can block, he can catch, he can run.”
Koetter noted he doesn’t know how much people value Lewis, a Jags first-round pick in 2006, but he did as a coach.
From 2007 to 2011, Koetter was Jaguars offensive coordinator and Lewis had his best season in 2010, 58 catches for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lewis, though, hasn’t done much of note outside of that one season in his 12-year career.
Joe sure would have felt better if Howard got the Gonzalez comparison.

Koetter= Scott Linehan

I would say that he’s more like Vernon Davis. The Bucs are using him like Mercedes Lewis.

The more koetter talks the harder it is to see him as a head coach. That was a stupid comparison and shouldn’t have been out pick especially since we’re not using him as a weapon. That’s a really expensive blocker you got there Dirk. Good offensive coordinator he’s just not a head coach which is why he’s never been one at this level so leave it to this franchise to give another unproven head coach their first shot meanwhile it’ll be another year we are looking up from the basement. You suck Dirk, where are your balls

The uniforms are ugly

I think Dalvin Cook still has more touches then OJ Howard.
Joe please smack Koetter upside the head and say “target Evans, Brate and OJ in that order”. Smack him 3x’s hopefully it sticks.
OJ on the screen was excellent. He ran it better than hump and if not for captain America Luke kuechley was may have scored.
Targeting Djax 8x in the first qrt is poopie caacaa. And mike not getting his first catch until the 3rd qrt is also mucho poopie caacaa.
Joe 3x’s in the back of the head okay?!

Koetter still searching for his Blaine gabbrett. Schucks if only Jameis could play like Blaine.

I hate that so many teams are trying to make there teams better trading for pieces that they need and we are here like always just waiting it out we need a pass rusher we need a corner and we continue to just sit down with the talent we have here smfh
October 31st, 2017 at 1:13 pm
If they do nothing before the end of the trade deadline then you already know they have given up on this season. I want to see Rodgers-Cromartie brought here now.

Koetter has to understand something. Jw is not blaine gabbert or matt Ryan. Quit making him someone he is not
October 31st, 2017 at 1:29 pm
Dallas might be looking for runningback…
send Drug Martin for a 4th rounder

Koetter blames wind. Seems to me that there were 2 QB’s playing and the other did not complain. When Koetter can’t answer, he just provides a sound byte.
It seems that we are very good with the predictions on how good we were going to be, not so much with the proof. On the offensive side of the ball, only the center and punter get to stay. The rest, don’t let the door…………
The defensive line can all go with the offensive group on the scrap heap. Keep the line LB’s, The TE’s The receivers and the rest can go to the scrap heap. Start over. Have the owners hire a president of football operations and bring in some pedigree coaches. Funny there are many very good players currently starting for teams that were 4-7 round picks and many a walk on’s. I would trade every first round pick I had for picks and go strictly for players with attitudes.

I say hire Chucky in the off season a coach who will coach him hard right there on the sidelines like Jimbo did (Jamies wants to be coached hard but Koetter doesn’t have time during the game and QB coach MB obviously isn’t doing it). Bring in Rex Ryan as D-Coordinator and offer Sapp D-line coach job. Bring in some coaches with fire in their bellies. Coaches that will demand accountability from the players on the sidelines during the game and a staff that can and will make adjustments in game as needed. Out coach the other team for a change!

Has Dirk been hit in the head lately? Seems concussed, what with all the nonsense spewing from his pie hole.
October 31st, 2017 at 2:54 pm
Kinda gives you a pretty good indication that this head coach has no idea on how to evaluate talent. Get this guy a clip board like all QB coaches and relieve him of his duties. He is in way over his head. I will be in New Orleans starting the chants GRU-DEN!!!!
October 31st, 2017 at 6:13 pm
Meh. I only want comparisons to OJ Howard. He’s original and in a decade they’ll be comparing young TE’s to him!
October 31st, 2017 at 6:50 pm
Word on the street is that Dirk K. has no fire in his belly. No “pump ’em’ up speech before the game or at the half. Just mundane facts & figures. He’s lost this team. Football is a game of fiery passion; not a accounting class ! Kick them in the A$$ !
October 31st, 2017 at 7:43 pm
Lewis has never been much of a receiver, but he’s a heckuva blocker and has spent a decade on a team that fires coaches and shreds rosters every couple of years. The fact that he can survive that much turnover, and still perform at a high level as a blocker for over a decade, is impressive. Anyone that actually knows a damn thing about football would be happy to have Lewis on their team.
October 31st, 2017 at 9:30 pm
Useless…doesn’t really matter what he’s compared to?
October 31st, 2017 at 10:35 pm
We need to stop spending so many damn draft picks on the offense. We clearly NEED multiple defense ends and cornerbacks. It will take years of drafting and free agency to fill this black hole our roster.
Folks, if we continue to lose I think it’ll be time to clean house!
